Love love love this place such a pleasant place to go eat the environment is nice and laidback and the service is great the food is always so good when I go. 10/10 recommend

a plate of fries and a salad

Had lunch here today with my (elderly) Dad. I'm visiting from the Midwest, so I'm basically doing a lobster roll tour, ordering one wherever I can. The one here was pretty great--huge portion of lobster in a lettuce leaf in the requisite toasted split top bun. Interestingly, the lobster came unadorned, so you could add as much or as little mayo as you wanted. While I missed ( a little) the crunch of a few bits of celery, I gotta say, this was easily the most generous lobster roll I've had here. Fresh, delicious, abundant. Service was pleasant and quick. And fries--I don't know about the prior owners, but today's fries were clearly made fresh (peels and all) and right out of the fryer, piping hot, crisp outside, creamy inside. I would come back here in a heartbeat.

Kids pancake meal with bacon (a pancake big enough for an adult and 4 pieces of bacon!)

I would love to know where they get the decor for this place. I'd imagine a lot of flea markets (fabulous ones)? It's hard to pick my favorite decor item because there are so many, but it's somewhere between the chairs shaped like hands and the giant silver octopus tentacle under the T.V. Ooo and the corner with all the clowns! Drinks are strong and cheap. The bartenders are friendly. There's a patio, but it's a bit small. There are plenty of comfy chairs/couches. They have live music pretty often, so if that's your thing, you'll be happy there on weekend nights. The only thing is the space is kind of small for live music, so it can get really loud. This is an excellent chill option if you're in Hallowell and want to skip bars that tend to get a bit fratty like The Quarry Taproom. Highly recommend!

Friends of ours wanted to play some pool after we had dinner nearby at Lucky Garden, so we did exactly that. It was a slow night and no one was waiting for the table, so we played about 4 or 5 games and had a lovely time. The decor is awesome, the bar is clean, and the staff were friendly. I've always had a good time here, and I enjoy the artwork too!

His meathead bouncer was taking a picture of my sister in law's license plate and we got pulled over within two minutes of leaving the parking lot. Beyond this horrible business owner, his establishment was TOTALLY empty on a Friday night. Apparently everyone else got the memo that this place sucks and has taken their business elsewhere. I was visiting from California and it seems the bartender and bouncer had their eye on me for whatever reason from the minute I walked through the door and they scanned my ID. I'm an otherwise non-threatening looking, rather ordinary mid 30's lady. I certainly don't look like a problem. We were totally fun loving and appropriate patrons throughout our stay, right up until we were rudely accosted by these crappy people. Needless to say, we were banned for life. I have to say that I will GLADLY oblige this ban. This place BLOWS!

I ordered the seafood casserole and my wife chose some type of stuffed fish. Before the food arrived we noticed a few gnats buzzing the table. No big deal, we thought we would kill them. Unfortunately, we were sitting near a large potted plant. Looking more closely, we noticed glue paper on a post with tons of gnats - clearly a problem the restaurant knew about. In fact, the proprietor came to our table and said he noticed us swatting away the gnats, and that he was sorry, but they "just put the plant there, and thought they had purchased soil that was clean". Come on, you're running a restaurant and should never make excuses for cleanliness! The food arrived. The casserole seemed like it wasn't fresh, masked by being microwaved to 400F. About half way in, I pulled a strand of hair out of a clump of casserole.... It can happen, but combined with the gnats and overall lack of cleanliness, it's too much. As we sat there, maybe it was just that day or time, but the thought for me was that the best days of the restaurant were in the past. The eclectic decor was dated and had many surfaces (eg picture frames) needing a wipe down to remove dust. I honestly feel bad to leave this review, as the owners are real people just trying to make it. That said, I hope they can step it up. It is a promising location, and there is little else in the area.

Cigar Shenanigans is a palace. The staff is awesome, the bar and drinks are great... but the building is the gem. It seems like an old restaurant like Chilis or the 9s turned into a cigar lounge, while still being inviting and warm. You walk in and to the right is an awesome bar with plenty of bar stools. If you don't want to sit at the bar, you can take a step down and sit in sort of a green house vibe with good seating. Or you can go toward the back of the building where there are plenty of booths and lounge chairs. There are enough tvs to be entertained if you want, but not feel overwhelmed like you're at a sports bar.., which is where I think the new owners of the old Cigar Emporium up the road from Shenanigans went wrong. We were not sure about the ordering process, and after a few minutes started trying to find the pub website and look for a menu. Eventually a menu was brought to our table, and we put in an order for beer. Turns out, half of the items on the menu were not available. When we did figure out an order, more items were made not available. We settled on a NY style pizza. We did not get the toppings we ordered. Good news: the crust was very good, and worth another try! Even the leftovers were delicious the next day - not all pizza can do that. They do not know how to pour a Guinness - which is too bad, because that is a favorite beer of ours. We switched to another tap and had a local red. The tap selection is decent. The place has a very casual atmosphere, and many locals come and go and seem to have great conversation and know each other's business. Overall, a place with great potential, especially for regulars. Hopefully, another visit will be more successful for exploring the menu which sounds good.
