THE SEDGLEY PLACE THANKSGIVING MENU GREENE, MAINE
Beth C.

Our family celebrated our 3rd annual Thanksgiving dinner at the Sedgley Place. The restaurant is situated in a house built in 1786. While the restaurant is modern, the house retains all of its historical charm. The Sedgley Place is one of our favorite places for celebrating a special, relaxing, and delicious meal. Ambiance, service, and food here are always impeccable. A five course meal was offered, with plenty of food options, and huge portion sizes. All of the food was delectable, and well executed by an expertly run kitchen. Such a great way to enjoy Thanksgiving! I am very thankful for the Sedgley Place, and highly recommend dining here.

We went to Sedgley Place for my birthday, and were not disappointed. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was lovely. I had not been to this restaurant in many years, and I feel it was much better than I remembered. Portions were just perfect. I had pecan crusted haddock with mushroom risotto, and both the fish as risotto were delicious. The mushroom risotto was the best I have ever had. My husband had the scallops and he said they were excellent as well. Service was a little slow, but that was just fine with me as I wanted to enjoy the evening.

We had a fabulous dinner as always and our server Cassie was excellent and very attentive! We love warm little loaf of bread served with soft whipped honey butter. Have always tried a different entree and always delicious. Best for last White chocolate macadamia bread pudding with fresh whipped cream

Today we enjoyed our Thanksgiving celebration with family at the SedgleyPlace. We have been going to this restaurant for several years. They offer staggered seating times with 3 hours in between dining times. The kitchen is used to this type of seating and works as a finely tuned machine delivering expertly prepared dishes from start to finish. The wait staff have a great attitude and are very helpful and friendly. They offered several festive fall beverages including mocktails. The selections included the traditional turkey dinner as well as a vegetarian offering, two seafood meals and two beef selections. All of the meals had generous portions and even had enough to take home for another meal. There were also 5 desserts and each of us tried a different one. The highlights were the peanut butter pie and the chocolate torte. They were both rich and delicious. I can't say enough about the great quality of food, staff and the perfect timing in between courses to enjoy our meals and not feel rushed.

Tonight was my first time to Sedgley Place . This is one of the best restaurants I've been too . Great food ! Friendly attentive wait staff ! We had the 5 course meal . We had reservations. The table had a nice card along with house made cheese spread and boxed crackers and water . The shrimp cocktail was great ! The French onion soup was the best we have ever had ! The Ceasar salad was the only thing that was not amazing , lettuce with little dressing some grated cheese and 2 unseasoned toasted baguette slices for croutons . The Land and Sea was amazing . My guest said it was the best steak and lobster he has ever had ! I agree ! We heard people being offered a pop over with the meal. We were not , but we asked for one out of curiosity and we charged extra . That was ok it was good ! We ended with pumpkin cheese cake and a hot fudge sundae . I've never ate so much but it was so good ! If you have not been to Sedgley Place you need to go ASAP ! Worth every penny , $150.00 no alcohol . We were here for an anniversary and did not get complimentary champagne like other reviews have mentioned . The atmosphere was nice , quiet and romantic .

This year (2021) my family and I had our Mother's Day meal at Sedgley Place. I had never been before but my sisters regarded it highly. The Mother's Day meals consisted of "5 courses". I have never seen bread and butter considered as a "course", but this is what you will find at Sedgley Place. Sedgley place is regarded as fine dining but is not at all a fine dining experience. The staff was off-putting and gave you the feeling that they did not want you there. The waitress was aware of my allergy to cheese and still gave me someone else's course that had cheese as one of the main ingredients. My course was given to another person who started eating it before either of us realized the mixup. Once I alerted the waitress she simply swapped the partially eaten plates. Not fine dining etiquette at all. The balsamic vinaigrette garden salad was very pleasing and tasteful. I ordered the Bacon Wrapped Filet Mignon for my main course. The filet was ordered Medium-Rare and to my disappointment it arrived medium-well and must have been sitting for a while as it was almost down to room temperature. Very disappointed as this is a cut that should be cooked perfectly. The prices at Sedgley Place reflect fine dining but the experience absolutely does not.

I started with a glass of their Cab Sav and some stuffed mushrooms. They were pretty good! I mean, there's only so much amazing you can do with stuffed mushrooms. My husband had the chicken pot pie, which he said was the best he's had. I had the Pappardelle w/ Salmon. I was skeptical of the Gruyère and its sharpness but the dish and flavors melded so well! I really enjoyed this meal and would highly recommend this restaurant of your looking for a great meal out. We both had Caesar's Salad, Filet mignon with buttered shrimp and fingerling potatoes. Topped off with Cheese cake. Everything was seasoned perfectly and not anything over the top, just perfect! If the menu keeps offering simple yet elevated amazing meals we may have to visit a lot more! Thank you for a great day! Also, nice touch with the roses for each couple.

The restaurant is a hometown staple…read more The atmosphere is dated and homely; the entire place is painted a flat gray tone and all of the general dinning area is carpeted (in 3 different types). The carpets are really in need of a good cleaning. The hostess was kind and welcoming and the waitress was timely and punctual with all provided services. The food was good. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms and barroom pretzels as appetizers. The mushrooms were well cooked and seasoned well. The pretzels were delicious and well cooked. For the main courses we orders the coconut shrimp with onion rings and the Boston Lobster pie with baked beans and sweet potato fries. The lunch portion of the coconut shrimp was well cooked and visually appealing. The lobster pie was a fair share and well cooked and topped with bread crumbs and soaked in butter.

I never really considered checking it out until my in-laws suggested we go for lunch one day. I always just saw the sign and kept on driving. Now, it is good... and as a bariatric patient, I am usually pretty hesitant to try new places simply because of my restrictions; however, I was pleased to find that there were options that worked for my post-op food plan. Yes, there's a lot of fried options, and there's a lot of pasta, but the stir-fry is what got me saying, "yeah I'll give it a go," and later, "yeah, I'd come back." The food has been consistent, and with a young child (who is a fantastic eater and not that picky... but still), that's huge for us. The service has always been great. They are accommodating, punctual, and friendly. Our most recent visit was extra impressive, because our server happily made sure to spend a little extra time and had so much patience with my five year old who is learning how to order for himself. Give it a go, friends. It's a pretty solid spot.

T he food is great, the service is great and they have a great selection of beers and specialty drinks. However, my recent visit to Buck It just as they opened for the lunch hour during the week was less than satisfying. The waitress, who appeared to be young, was more concerned with talking with the one customer at the bar than to keep an eye on our table. She was quick to take our drink order, but after she dropped them off, we didn't see her for a good 5+ minutes when we placed our food order. After the food was delivered, we never saw the girl until she brought us our check. The majority of the time you could hear her out back talking to the kitchen staff and then she would return to the bar and chat with the one person. At no point did she ever check on us to see how the meal was. Now to the food. My wife had the steak tips with fries and I had the bourbon chicken tips. The chicken was cooked well and had a BBQ sauce it was tossed in. Rice was very bland, but with some salt, pepper and BBQ sauce it was alive again. My wife's tips were cooked very well, but seriously under seasoned. A little salt can go a long way on steak. I was going to sample a smoked whiskey drink they had, but since the bartender was no where to be found, I settled on my soda. It's a good thing we didn't run out of drink, because we would have needed glow wands and flags to get the attention of the bartender. It's too bad because I had high praise for Buck It and the service it what drives my review from a 5-start to a 2-star. Customer service is what makes this a great place, but the younger generation don't understand the first thing about interaction and customer service unless it's through a phone or social media app. It's too bad. Keep the seasoned employees on during lunch if you want to interact with the staff.

The burgers were hand-made, not pre-pressed patties. Mushroom Swiss and cheeseburger both tasted great. There's a lot of cheese, and a decent amount of meat. Fries were crispy - just the way I like them. Chicken tenders came with several large tenders: good portion. Hand breaded. Real chicken. Our waitress was nice. There's free popcorn. While I can't verify this, my grandson said "it was the cleanest bathroom of any restaurant." He was impressed. Lol. Seriously.

Very personable and so passionate about this new life chapter with is wife (new owners since Feb. 2025). Everything is made to order so there can be a wait. Plus it gets busy at lunch. We suggest ordering your drink and maybe an appetizer while you study the menu. The mussels were amazing!!! Bigger than Prince Edward Island in a roasted tomato and chorizo sauce. Served with grilled buttered/seasoned sourdough bread. We brought the remaining sauce home. My husband ordered the beer battered fresh haddock sandwich with fries. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich with cheese and bbq sauce on toasted sourdough. Also served with fries. Both so amazing. We had the the flour less chocolate torte with vanilla ice cream. The torte was very dense and rich. So good. The ice cream cut some of the richness. So elegant inside with the exposed brick, concrete floors and beautiful decorating. They take it up a notch with everything they do. Water served once you are seated. Silverware rolled in cloth napkins. Sourdough bread. No feeling that you have to rush through your meal. A little extra in food presentation; ketchup in a little dish with the fries for example. Great fries by the way. The outdoor dining area is set up with greenery to keep it private and decorated with little lights for that romantic feel. On Lincoln Street in the Bates Mill building. Please come visit Ryan and the staff. The prices are reasonable and they also serve dinner. Very happy.
