Met some friends for a lovely dinner at White Duck. The room they put us in was so hot, but they didn't notice I turned the space heater temp down, so it worked out. Dinner was great- had the calamari appetizer, and stuffed baked haddock. While not the best I've ever had, it was pretty good. Mashed potatoes could have been more mashed - ran into some large hard chunks. Our waitress pleasant, but interrupted our conversation several times. Some social training seems to be in order. Additionally, she disappeared for over 15 minutes, leaving our drinks sitting on the bar. I fetched them for our table and she never even seemed to notice. Although the food tasted good, we will never be back, as both my husband and I suffered diarrhea from it... wasn't going to mention this but honestly people should know. This place is great! The service is great and clean with plenty of parking. The atmosphere is a bit on the loud side but manageable. You can't go wrong if you choose a hamburger or their fish & chips everything was so good and fresh. Was here with a large group and got there within the cutoff of placing orders and everyone was so happy to seat us and ready to serve everyone. This was also the day before New Year's Eve. This is the fourth year in a row the company I work for had the managers outing here, and like classic tradition. Everything was absolutely amazing, one of the owners Renee came out and introduced herself and welcomed everybody and made sure the servers were taking care of the large group of people that we were with, the appetizers were amazing and the meals were amazing and the service is second to none. While the atmosphere isn't exactly amazing ... it feels kind of 'blah' with white walls, grey floors and kind of depressing and stark ... it is obvious that whomever designs the menu and makes the food gives a shit. The food was fantastic, given the rather remote location. Normally, a dockside restaurant doesn't give me much hope for a meal, beyond what you'd find at a local Applebees, but the food here was great. I had the mussles appetizer, which was a meal in itself. My only recommendation would be to ask for two pieces of bread vs. one to sop up all the tasty juice at the bottom of the bowl. The mussels were plump and cooked well and the sauce had a wonderful bacon-y flavor. When my dish came out, a lot of others around me had ordering fomo. The burger was good. Cooked well ... medium rare = dark pink, as it should be. The chef isn't afraid to cook meat as it's supposed to be cooked here. Nothing too special ... but a good burger for the price. The beer selection was good, with local beers, which were made on property. While it is a bit of a bummer the restaurant doesn't really have lake views, being so close to the water, there are outdoor picnic tables which offer a little sunshine. I really liked this spot and would totally come back because the food was so good and prepared so well. The waitress was also perfect ... not intrusive but there when you needed her. She had some good menu suggestions, including my ordering the mussels. Given the little options in this part of Maine, without driving an hour to Portland, it gets a very high review from me. read more

My wife and I went for 60th birthday lunch. I had the blackened fish tacos and flavor of the weak wings. My wife had the caprese sandwich. The fish tacos were the worst I've ever had the haddock was like mush and the Cole slaw tasted like raw cabbage. The pub chips were soaked with cooking oil and the wings tasted like freezer burn. At $4.00 a wing made and sting much more than the raw red veins in the chicken. The caprese sandwich should have been called a tomato sandwich with almost zero mozzarella. We stopped in for an early dinner, so we shared a few appetizers as our meal. The service was good and the staff was friendly, but they also seemed inexperienced. The duck confit poutine was delicious! Easily the dish we would most likely get again or recommend. There was a good amount of duck meat throughout the dish, not all in one spot, the fries were crisp, the gravy tasty, and there were plenty of cheese curds. The mussels had nice flavor and were cooked perfectly. We enjoyed them, but the addition of the bacon didn't seem to make sense for the dish. The crab cakes were a miss for us. There were a lot of flavors going on, which totally covered the flavor of the crab. There was a ton of dill in the aioli on top and lots of bell peppers and mustard, in addition to the mayo, in the crab cakes themselves. Squeezing the lemon on top helped make it more balanced, but we still would have enjoyed a more prominent crab flavor. Lastly, the fish and chips were delicious! The batter on the fish was light and airy and brought out the nice flavor of the fish. The tarter sauce was clearly homemade and very tasty! read more

We have been wanting to get the White Duck, finally got there on a rainy and chilly Labor Day. Place was packed for lunch, I imagine because there was not much to do outside with all of the rain. Service was great. Traditional pub menu. The dry rub chicken wing app was great. Kim loved the flavor of the seafood stew, but pretty light on the actual seafood. I liked my fish and and chips (nice seasoned fries), and it was nice that I could get a half portion for lunch. Nice Maine draft beer selection. It was chilly inside, could have used some heat, and although the inside is really nice architecture is was really loud with the tin ceiling. I've eaten here three or four times. The food is always good. Most times we've eaten in the evenings. They get very busy and the service is a little slow. But ................this time we ate in the afternoon. Around 3:00 o'clock. I must say it was fantastic. The service was great. Great food with good service in a convenient location. The vegetarian pasta of the day was mixed veggies with linguine in a parmesean cream sauce. It was fantastic, the cream sauce was perfect and nice fresh vegetables. Great local beer selection. The prime rib was awesome too. The decor is a bit cold and modern farmhouse and not overly comy or inviting. It was a rainy day, so the outdoor areas were closed. It was packed inside and were told a 30 min wait, but that turned into an hour wait because the kitchen was backed up. The bar was full and it took me 15 minutes just to order a beer and get a bar tenders attention. That kinda didn't give us a good first impression unfortunately. It is also very loud inside and the waitstaff has to go to the kitchen through the middle of the restaurant which is very inconvenient . Great food. read more

We have been anxiously awaiting the opening of this restaurant! Upon entering you are greeted by the hostess and seated promptly. Great welcome! The place is just so cool inside! Our waitress came by and took our drink order and was super friendly too! We ordered house chips, wings and burger. The house chips are crunchy and delish! The wings we ordered were the house dry rub and garlic Parmesan.. heck yeah! The burger was cooked perfect. Addendum: I returned after 6 mos. And had a much better meal. I had the chicken stacker sandwich which came with grilled chicken, bacon, roasted garlic aioli, on a brioche bun with hand cut fries. The sandwich was great. They are consistently unable to cook the fries very well though. The fries were a bit soggy and not great flavor. If I am going to splurge with fries I need them to be hot and delicious. The atmosphere is always great. It is open, sunny and airy with clean lines and so comfortable. We were even visited by Travis Mills, one of the owners. He was very enthusiastic meeting the guests and offered helpful hints on how to customize your order. What a great guy. read more

Inviting exterior made me stop for lunch. When I entered the restaurant there was a sign saying wait to be seated but nobody there to see anybody. I waited for about five minutes until somebody finally came. I was getting discouraged and should've left, but I was pretty hungry. I wish I got a different waiter/waitress as the one I got took my order and I waited just about 25 minutes for it to be brought by somebody else. And it was the wrong order. Excellent brew pub experience! Had a working lunch at White Duck recently. The reviews were not wrong. Fresh ingredients, generous portions, and for a busy, nearly full, dining room the food came out relatively quickly. I had a bowl of clam chowder. The chowder was flavorful, lots of potato, clams, and celery, came with oyster crackers and I asked for a side of pickles. My coworkers had the homemade chili with just the right amount of kick, he said it was just the right amount of spice, the chili came with a corn muffin. Another coworker did the pub burger with house cut fries. The burger was cooked to his liking, came with bacon, tomato, and lettuce on a giant brioche bun, the fries were hot and crispy and seasoned nicely. A friend of mine ordered the turkey club special, she was NOT disappointed. The turkey club came with homemade chips, it was too much to finish so she took the rest home. And lastly another coworker went for the pork tacos, three soft tacos topped with pickled onion and cheese, served with a lime and chips. She was very pleased with her meal. There is an extensive line of locally brewed craft beer, full bar, drink specials and daily food specials. Lots of vegetarian options. The building is fairly new with a clean industrial kind of vibe. It was noisy as the place was nearly packed, it didn't interfere with the conversation at our table. The dining room is open, and spacious, there is outside dining in the summer where there is also a full bar, fire pit, and common back lawn kind of space. I will have to go in the summer and see what the outside experience is like. Good for groups, there is guest wifi however, I did not use the wifi, I did not ask for the password. We finally got to the "new place" in town, after the parking lot was expanded to accommodate what seemed to be a constant crowd. There was a half-hour wait for lunch on a Saturday in May, so call ahead to get your name on the list. White Duck is lovely inside - clean and modern. The metal ceilings did make for a noisy meal, but the decor and furnishings were nice. The staff was friendly and our server was sweet and attentive. We ordered vegetarian plates (except for my cup of chowder), though the vast majority of the menu is meat-based. First came our Margaritas in a tasting flight - Traditional, Hibiscus and Passion Fruit. We both liked the Passion Fruit the best, but they were all good. If you order the Traditional, be sure you like it salty! My daughter had the vegetarian special of the day - sautéed vegetables with cavitappi pasta in a parmesan cream sauce - and said it was really delicious, but she had trouble finding the vegetables. She said it was "fancy mac and cheese," but tasted very good. The portion was huge, with enough for a second meal. I ordered a cup of clam chowder and a side size of roasted root veg. Both were good, but the chowder was heavy on the bacon taste rather than clammy. The goat cheese on the roasted veg was a perfect creamy touch, and the fresh apple slice garnish was a refreshing afterbite. It's so nice to have White Duck in what had been a good food restaurant desert. Expect to spend a bit, but it's worth it. read more

I wanted to try something different and this fit the bill. Nice, simple decor, very nice staff, and good food. It was not fast, but nowhere is these days. We were seated about 15 minutes after we arrived, but didn't get our appetizer for another half hour, and about the same for the entrée. The Garlic Parmesan Wings were incredible, I could eat the sauce with a spoon! The Chicken Parm was very good, but a bit overcooked and on the dry side. My husband had the Cottage Pie and would have preferred it without the added herbs. The quality of the food was very good, we will certainly go again and try to get there earlier to try other items on the menu! read more

W. O. W. Went here for dinner and drinks and was very impressed. Everyone MUST try their wings and house made blue cheese. The poutine was also to die for. The caprese sandwich was on their own focaccia bread. This bread is my new favorite food and the rest of the sandwich was fresh and delicious. The espresso martini was smooth and flavorful. The entire bar selection seemed amazing. We were too stuffed to try dessert but the options they had sounded incredible. Our server was extremely friendly, patient, and helpful and all of the staff seemed to enjoy working there and were very nice. It gets a little loud, but not at a level that would disturb or prevent conversation. The bathrooms were clean and the parking lot was a decent size for the building. A thirst quenching IPA perfectly hopped with an ABV of 6.9%($8). I ordered the Blackened Fish Tacos, 3 tacos chock full of well seasoned fresh fish, pickled red onions, lettuce, tomato and a tangy crema on soft corn tortillas served with homemade potato chips($16). Our neighbors mentioned this place when we moved to the area, and it's lived up to the hype. Our first visit we got burgers, which were great but they are each 1/2 lb which is a bit too much meat for me. But the bun and all the cheese and bacon were very good. When we came back for another visit, I got the fish and chips and I'm not sure I'll ever get anything else there now. WOW!! These are the best fish and chips I've had in the States. The beer batter is just the right amount of crisp and keeps everything flavorful and not the mush that fish and chips can be. They also make their own tartar and cole slaw that is served with it. The fries were good but the fish is just incredible. Apparently it can sell out, we were there at 545pm on a winter Friday night. Service is also wonderful. They had some tricky customer situations while we were there and I was amazed at how well our server handled them. It's been 2 days and I still haven't stopped talking about how much I want more fish and chips. We will be back! read more

I've been here several times. I love the vibe, the decor and the cold beer. I have always enjoyed my meals here even though my friends have hit an off night now and then. It had been a few months since I'd been in so when my family was in town I brought them here for lunch. There is always a wait to be seated but Saturday there was no one to greet us and we waited ten minutes just to be seen. The menu was being updated for the season change to summer so three offerings were not available, and as luck would have it the Chilli and the cottage pie I wanted were two of the items dropped. Being allergic to crab, several of the menu options were not an option for me; and honestly the menu just seemed limited. The food we did order was served barely warm and they forgot one dinner order, which is always awkward while you wait for it to be cooked. I know everyone can have a bad day but it seems like the White Duck is hit or miss, and I'm going to have to say it's pretty solid with being mediocre so I'll wait awhile before returning. read more

I had the clam chowder (very tasty), banh mi (huge and also quite good), and a side salad with citrus herb vinaigrette (delicious - the unexpected star). This restaurant is a gem. The food is fantastic, and the service was great. They have entertainment on the weekends and our waitress who name is Barbie made us feel right at home. we had just completed a trip driving for 6 hours and she made the right suggestions for drink and food.
