As we were passing through, we saw this off the side of the highway. Really extensive menu with lots of GF options! The beer menu had lots of options but they only listed the company, not which was actually on tap, so I had to ask about each one, kind of annoying. The burgers were perfectly cooked, the brioche and GF bun were really good. The homemade chips were perfectly cooked. Food was good, beer was just ok. I've driven by for an entire year and I keep telling myself that I need to try it. Finally I had the opportunity and I was not disappointed. I have to say that the menu did not seem all that big but the ones that we ordered were fabulous! We had the burger, the mac n' cheese and the pulled pork sandwich all complete with the crispiest fresh fries ever. My companion said it was the best burger they'd had in a very long time. I will say it was expensive. For those three items and 3 sodas it was over $60. With that said, I'd return because the food was so good. Went on a Saturday night and the wait was stupid long, both before and after ordering. Our waitress was good, but the place was understaffed for the number of customers. Food wasn't bad, and the portions were reasonable. Well, except for the mussel appetizer, which was $17. Came with one tiny piece of bread. When asked for more bread, since their were two of us, we had to pay an additional charge. That was pretty cheap of them. But the mussels and the sauce had good flavor. My chicken parm sandwich was decent. The tomato sauce didn't have a lot of flavor, but the overall sandwich was tasty. But it was an $18 chicken parm sandwich with one piece of chicken cut in half. My wife's fish tacos were pretty good. We liked the grilled fish and pickled onion. There was an upcharge for the side caesar salad but it was a good size and the dressing had a pleasant lemonly, garlicy flavor. My upcharged french fries were crisp and tasty. We also ordered two pints, which were almost $10 each. It should be noted that White Duck does not brew their own beers. Overall, we were impressed with the food. Another customer ordered the fish and chips which looked good and crispy. However, prices were high and the nickel and diming would probably keep us from going back. With tip, it was almost $100 for two sandwiches, one app that we split, and one beer each. The upcharge for the bread really peeved me. read more

My Fiancé and I went earlier this week for the first time. We were actually scouting it out as a potential place to hold our Rehearsal Dinner and I was definitely looking forward to it. The hosting staff was friendly and prompt, as was our server. Not long after we were seated, our server asked if this was our first time dining there, and it was. He explained the drink menu, food menu, and specials of the day. To start my Fiancé just had a fountain drink, but I decided to try one of their monthly drinks which was A muddled Strawberry Old Fashioned. I was expecting a bit more from that one, but the strawberry chunks in the bottom didn't really add much to the rest of the drink. It was a 6/10 Old Fashioned in my book. For appetizers, we shared a plate of their Duck Confit Poutine and I also grabbed a small side salad with 1000 island dressing. Since that is always my go to I was excited to try their house made version, but I was pretty disappointed with either the dressing, or the pickled onions in the salad, but that is just a personal preference, I should have removed them. The Duck Confit Poutine was proportioned oddly and not layered very well; the cheese curds were all on the bottom, the duck seemed to be mostly on one side, and the gravy was either not plentiful enough or not hot enough when added to the dish to properly melt the curds at the bottom. Overall though it was one of the better things we had here, I loved the fries and if you had a piece of everything it was a pretty good bite. My biggest complaint though is the food was very blatantly not salted as it was cooked. Once we salted everything more appropriately though it was pretty tasty. My Fiancé and I both ordered a daily special, hers was a (I believe Sirloin) steak and shrimp dish with mashed potatoes and green beans while I had a different daily steak special which was also a Sirloin with fingerling potatoes and green beans. The best part of both of our Entrees were the Green Beans. They were perfectly cooked, similar issue with seasoning but that was acceptable to both of us. Both steaks were a bit inconsistently cooked and were not the most tender. Both cooked to medium rare ish with a hard grey band but I will say my Fiancés might have been a bit closer to medium. My Fiancés Shrimp was very good, but only came with four 16/20(guessing the size) shrimp. Her potatoes were good, mine were good. Everything needed salt, but overall it was not bad. My biggest gripe though was the food was just okay for the price we paid. I knew we were going to pay a bit more than going to a chain, but we were hoping to have our socks knocked off here, If even a little bit, as I've heard great things. Overall though, we left with our socks pretty well in place, our wallet pretty well lighter, and no closer to finding our rehearsal dinner location. read more

Went on a summer Friday night and they were as busy as you would expect. Had a local beer while waiting for a table. Eventually sat at the bar when a couple of spots freed up. The bar service was superb. I had a lemon drop that was perfection. For dinner my husband had the crab cakes appetizer because he had a big lunch. I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken parmigiana but I did think the sauce tasted slightly sweet which I am not a fan of. Great ambiance too! If we lived near by we'd be regulars at this restaurant! The food was amazing. We ordered the corn fritters as a starter and devoured them. We each had different entrees and everyone enjoyed every bite. I highly recommend the fish and chips and the grilled chicken stacker. The hand cut fries were so so good. We give this place five stars. The next time we visit Maine and the Winthrop area this will be a must-go. read more

We stay nearby 4/5 nights for work and would love to continue to come in but have found ourselves seeking out other options in the area that serve Coke products. Hence only 2 stars. Great menu with many options. Vegetarian or meat lovers can find something delicious. We ordered fish tacos and chicken parm sando. The chicken parm didn't have a lot of red sauce which was preferred. Restaurant is casual and nicely done. Not kitschy. Comfortable, good amount of tables and bar seating. Only reason to not give 5 stars was no dedicated fryer for those with fish allergies. This was our 4th time eating at white duck and I have to say it's gone from outstanding to pretty disappointing. We went last week, on a Friday night... we know it's a busy time of year but really this shouldn't excuse the poor food and very long wait for it. We were seated pretty quickly, our server got our drinks quickly and took food orders promptly, then the wait. We didn't get our food until almost 90min and 3 people in our party ordered clam chowder, two as appetizers and one as their entree, once the food finally came the waitress said oh the chowder is coming they ran out! Most people at the table were half way done eating when the chowder came and it was inedible, the potatoes like rocks. The server took the complaint to the manager who removed them from our bill but really that stunk. We wished she informed us much earlier they had run out so something else could be ordered. The portions on the entree salad were sparse, the steaks grizzly, the burgers had topping we asked they not have, my son got I counted 7 French fries with his kids tenders, just overall for what you are paying this was a big disappointment. We left after 2hrs for dinner just seemed incredibly long for such poor quality food, expected more for what we paid. We love having this in Winthrop, I hope they can do an overhaul On quality control... they were not short on staff that was clear. read more

We went around dinner time on July 4th and were able to find 2 seats at the bar. The bar tender was very friendly and even more efficient. We shared the duck confit poutine and my partner ordered the baked mac and cheese; both were delicious. I ordered the Summer Berry & Citrus Salad (added grilled chicken). We were in the area on vacation and now back home I have been DREAMING about this salad (even tried recreating it at local places, but to no avail!). Everything about it was unbelievably; the flavors worked SO WELL. There was strawberry, feta, almonds, mini orange slices, and the tastiest raspberry vinaigrette! If that salad is available, ORDER IT! Great beers, great atmosphere and DELICIOUS food!! read more

We passed by the White Duck Brew Pub on Friday evening on our way to New Belgium and decided to try it today for lunch. WOW. We are so pleased that we did! The staff was terrific, the food was amazing and the entire experience has made us want to come back to Asheville/Weaverville for another round. This place is worth the trek. read more

I can't even explain how excited my family is to have the White Duck as a dining option. We have had a camp in Winthrop for as long as I've been alive (don't ask--it's a long time) and have seen some good places come and go. We usually have to head further out to find a decent lunch or dinner spot. We've now been to White Duck several times and always leave happy! First of all, the food is fresh and delicious. Start your meal off well, from great salads with fantastic homemade dressings to scrumptious appetizers (you HAVE to try the duck poutine) to festive cocktails. Great variety of sandwiches for lunch, and all that we have tried have been delicious (I'm a big fan of the salmon burger). For dinner, standouts are the fish and chips, the mac and cheese, the fish tacos, all of the pasta dishes...I could go on. Did I mention that the waitstaff is AMAZINGLY warm and welcoming? Every person we've had the pleasure of waiting on us has been so friendly and attentive, and we eat out in a lot of different cities. Simply wonderful people. They are chosen well. And then there are the desserts. I rarely order dessert, because most restaurants at this price point (and even higher) serve crappy frozen desserts purchased from some kind of big box supplier, and I'm not wasting my calories on that junk. At a recent visit, my husband wanted to try a slice of chocolate peanut butter cake. They were sold out, so he settled for lemon blueberry cheesecake, which was actually a lemon blueberry cake with a dense cheesecake frosting and wild Maine blueberry topping...he shared, and it was as yummy as it was beautiful. On a return trip, he was able to get the chocolate peanut butter cake, which was also so beyond what you usually get for a restaurant dessert these days that we had to ask where they got their desserts from. They make them in house! Totally worth the calories, my friends, and made with such clear effort that I kind of want to sneak back into the kitchen to see a cake before it's sliced! No joke! Also worth noting is the atmosphere. The place is super clean and inviting (even the bathrooms, which say a lot about a restaurant), and we always have a lot of fun playing cornhole out back and listening to live music when we are lucky enough to catch it. In short, our whole family is happy to be able to support a local business that is truly great! read more

If I could give this place 6 stars, I would. My girlfriend is in a wheelchair so some places can be a bit of a challenge. The staff here have on our last 2 visits been fantastic and extremely accommodating. Always friendly, very helpful, courteous and friendly. Next comes the food. Their wings are scrumptious. Cooked to perfection and seasoned the same. I typically get the dry rub wings and they are spectacular. We sat outside on the patio both times and it was great. Our servers were fabulous. But the second time we were there ) about a week ago) was the icing on the cake. Amanda is a jewel ( now this is going to go to her head... Lol) as we enjoyed our wings, she came back to check on us, (we were more than halfway thru the dozen wings), and asked us if things were still going well, and I said great but we only got 11 wings instead of 12. She said I'll take care of that right now, and have them put a couple more on for you. A few minutes later, another 1/2 dozen wings were brought to the table... Not 1, not 2, but 6.... We were blown away. Then Amanda came back and explained the process and why we got the extra, at no extra charge I must add. Epic!!! The kicker is, after all this, we took off and the next morning I was headed to work and realized I didn't have me wallet. Long story short after checking everywhere,I called the restaurant on my lunch break to see if I had left it there. I didn't even finish my explanation and the hostess said yes it's here, we thought you'd have come back for it. I live on the coast so it's a hike for me, but I went back the next day with Dad for dinner and to pick up my wallet. With my deepest gratitude for Amanda and the hostess (I'm sorry I can't remember her name as well) for looking after my wallet and taking such good care of us. Great food! Hate how they are doing the waiting. No call ahead seating. You get told 30 min wait show up 10mins later. So we can be put on the waiting list was told it was 1 hour and 15 min wait. I get it's the new place in town and everyone wants to try it. But we should be able to call ahead to be added to the wait. Not a lot of parking either. Other than those two things everything is great. Great prices on drinks and the food is amazing!!!! We will continue to try to come but it would have been five stars. read more

Amazing, the whole staff kept checking on our table I should've taken pictures of our food! It's such a cute place! Veteran owned I believe, which is very important to me since my husband is a disabled veteran. The salad dressing was house made and so fresh. We got a ribeye and it was amazingly seasoned and so tender. The French fry duck dish was astonishingly good. None of the employees wear masks and I absolutely love that and the atmosphere here.
