This is a review for their brunch. First of all I have never understood brunch. I was always confused when people said they were going to brunch. Are you eating breakfast or lunch? I had no idea what they were talking about. That was my mindset until I found this place. This buffet is overflowing with so many delicious options that I could try to sit there and eat it all but I know it won't happen. From a salad bar, pastries and bread bar, omelette station, pasta station, desserts and plenty of entrees to choose from, there is no way you can leave hungry or disappointed. This place did not even deserve a one star. We had reservations for 20 people at 5 pm. The place was not busy. We had 2 servers for our table. We were told the bartender was new as the drinks/beer were very slow getting to us . Once finally arrived the bartender did not know how to make a lemon drop martini. Half of the table receivEd food and dessert and the other half was still waiting for food. We were told that the cook was new, not my problem. One person cancelled the meal. I ordered a salad with salmon cooked med, it came well done. It cost $9 to add what looked like 1-2 ounces of salmon. Would not recommend Or go back. We love Cloud 9 and go there all the time. We started going there when searching for someplace in Augusta that had raw oysters. On tonights visit we both had a favorite, the panko pan fried chicken with a lemon caper sauce. The ceasars on the side was excellent, and they know to add anchovies. Absolute garbage, though, our waitress was lovely. The food was awful and I can't get why this place had great reviews (maybe avg age of clientele)... The wife had a crabmeat panini (store bought bread) with an overwhelming taste of thyme?- but that was good, as it masked the rancid crab underneath, her cheese was unmelted on it too. I had a lobster roll for $19 that I kid you not was served on a hotdog bun!!! The kicker though, and what really drove me to write a review was our appetizer! We got the smoked Maine seafood, it was store bought sliced lox, (possibly) canned trout, canned oysters, and some tiny shrimp (definitely not from Maine, as the shrimp fishery has been closed for years)- with a bunch of greens... Where do I even begin? The incredibly dated decor, which probably looked "fancy" in the 80's but just looks tired and tacky now? How about the fly the bounced off my head and into my glass? Or the fact that they never. made. my. food. Instead of getting the lunch buffet-- because I distrust buffets-- I ordered one of the brick oven pizzas (the Greek one). We were a large-ish party (maybe 10) and we were sitting near the brick oven area. Those who ordered buffet served themselves, and a few other people ordered off the menu. They got their food. Due to the proximity to the pizza oven, I heard my waitress ask about the time on my pizza, to which the cooks replied "there's no ticket." When she returned to tell me that they were just now going to make my pizza, she told me so in a defensive way ("I put the order in!") and at that point I hadn't said a word. So I wait. She checks again, and the cooks tell her as they were taking it out of the oven, it tore. How do you tear a pizza?? At this point I was quietly angry, and my coworker spoke up and said I'd take the pizza (since at this point everyone else was done their food). No, they didn't charge me for it, but this visit left such a sour taste in my mouth that I won't be back. read more

Spent almost $60 per person for the Mother's Day brunch. No beef, no fish no seafood. It was very, Very disappointing.

Looking for somewhere to go for Mother's Day and noticed that this restaurant inflates their prices for the holiday. I called and asked if the price increase was for to something special being served (after all, a price increase is worth it for a special menu, right?) The guy who answered the phone sounded rushed, didn't want to talk. He mumbled something about prices having to go up because of minimum wage raising, and then told me rather rudely that they had no reservations left and then hung up on me. Ouch. read more

Where do I start? First off our server was great. The butternut and chard was over grilled both times. The server respectively sent it back both times and then asked if we wanted another selection. We selected the red pepper humus which was great. I had the mushroom ravioli which was OK but the asparagus was charred on the same grill that the chard was cooked on so it also tasted burnt. The oysters on the half shell was great. If back in this area I will stick the humus and the oysters plus the bar drinks. Everything else is up to you. read more

This restaurant was... ok. The service was great! I had the curry salmon with coconut rice and grilled asparagus. My asparagus were PERFECT! The salmon and rice were dry and not particularly flavorful. My advice is drive on to Portland for better odds of eating something especially delicious . read more

The food here has always been amazing! I come to the Cloud 9 restaurant several times a year since I enjoy the in and out of the pizza/salad bar lunchtime special, being a working professional in the Capitol Area the buffet is always a good lunchtime option for the working crowd. The staff are always accommodating and polite, everything I have ever had has been wonderful. I especially enjoy the oysters on the half shell, always perfectly shucked and served just how I like with Tabasco, horseradish, and lemon. The only reason I cannot give 5 stars is because the food coming out of the kitchen is slower and sometimes the servers are slower to refill your drink/water. The salads are delicious, fresh, and generous, prices are reasonable for a higher end dining experience. The restaurant itself seems clean and well maintained, friendly staff, if you're in a hurry or on your lunch break I recommend the buffet. If you're not worried about your time and just want to savor and enjoy a slower-paced dining experience the Could 9 is for you. read more

In years past, I had been to the Senator for conferences and banquets. It was known for good food, spacious conference rooms, and a convenient location with a lot of parking. I had last been to Cloud 9 restaurant for lunch about ten years ago, and I remember it being a pleasant meal - again, at the time the reputaion was that the Senator was a "fancy" upscale place to go out to eat. The Sunday brunch was legendary. Recently my husband and I were out and about in the area and he asked about where we might get brunch nearby, since it was around noon but he was still hungry for breakfast food. I suggested the Senator, and he had never been, so there we went. The parking lot was pretty packed, but we were able to find a spot not too far from the entrance. They asked at the door whether we had a reservation (we didn't), but were still able to seat us immediately. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The decor was pretty much as I left it the last time I was there. It reminded me of the wedding/banquet venues I knew as a kid. Pretty sure the food and recipes were the same, too. My husband and I had the buffet, and were each able to find something to eat. There was a large selection of breads (none gluten-free) and a good variety of items on the salad bar. The corn chowder I had was good, though not terribly hot, and a bit bland. I had my usual hash, but was a bit disappointed in the unexpected texture - it was basically mashed potatoes with flakes of corned beef in it. Not bad, but not great, either. I had bacon, sausage and some sweet potatoes, since the egg choice was eggs benedict on english muffins - again, not gluten-free (though there was a vegetarian choice). My husband had eggs benedict - one of each - which were dry and overcooked. The lunch choices did not look at all appetizing to me - including a chicken pot pie and a pasta dish, some ham and a few other typical "buffet" items. The dessert table was extensive, and did have a few gf options, including the mousse, Indian pudding and creme brulee. Each of the choices I tried was very sweet. The one option I enjoyed was labeled "Strawberry Merengue," but was actually piped merengue with a blackberry on top. It was light and delicious. Although nothing was terrible, it wasn't great either, and really not worth the price. We weren't impressed. I could see why The Senator's reputation has slowly waned through the years - it could really use an update of decor, menu and pricing. We'll wait for the changes before going back. read more

Overpriced. Good size portions. Our zucchini was overcooked and rubbery. My broiled fish was bland, but cooked right.

I usually love Cloud 9. My husband and I live to pop in here for happy hour specials after work. It has always been great. Tonight though, there have been multiple systems failure. 1st) the lady's room was messy. Obviously none of the staff had checked in for a number of hours to check on it's cleanliness. 2nd) the overall "bouquet" in the bar area was very musty and I hate to say, urine-tinged. I would not be surprised if they had had some sort of prior flood or water damage of some sort, it smelled like that to me. 3rd) The salad bar was missing the "signature salad." The only reason that I get salad there, that and the bleu cheese dressing. 4th) there was a "beard hair" on one of the Kalamata olives...Lord let it have been a beard or chest hair. It was highly suspicious and even more disappointing. I don't know if there is new management, but they need to step it up a lot. Plus the restaurant could use new flooring in the bathroom...a number of tiles were missing. I hope that Cloud 9 comes back to it's former good-ness. So, I went back to Cloud 9 for happy hour. Guess who has new flooring??? You guessed it. Although I didn't notice if the bathroom floor was addressed, they have new flooring throughout the restaurant and the funky smell is gone!!! I didn't have the salad bar, but the pizza was great. I'm so glad that that they've made progress. I'll give more stars once I check out my other concerns. read more

We stopped by this restaurant on a road trip, and SO glad we made a stop here... BEST CRAB CAKES I'VE EVER HAD!! (and I'm not even a huge crab cake fan... OR maybe because I haven't had great crab cakes, OR maybe it's because they're Maine Crabs?!?). We order the Maine Crab Cakes for two and the Maple Ginger Glazed Salmon Salad. The crab cakes made the salad seem very unexciting. These crab cakes were meaty and filled with a lot of crab compared to the crab cakes I've had in the past: mixed with a bit of crabs, breadcrumbs and other stuff where you can hardly taste the meat of the shelled creature. Maybe that's why I thought these were so great-- because they are actually CRAB cakes!! If you're definitely a fan of crabs and thought crab cakes are generally just okay, do yourself a favor and order the Maine Crab Cakes... and they might just change your mind! We felt so teased by ordering the Maine Crab Cakes for two and wished we order the entree instead where you'd get three crab cakes instead of two. The style of restaurant/ hotel was cute, with old unused telephone booths on the first floor, which could probably be repurposed for cell phone users to have a quiet and private space to talk. I love vintage stuff and excited to see this restaurant is still around after the changing technology :) read more

The best brunch around. Saturday and sunday at 11am. The smorgasbord of delicious food was endless. The omelette making station was so cool. Pick all your own toppings. The eggs Benedict were delicious. The corned beef hash was made with real shreds of corn beef. There was a huge salad bar. The pastries and breads were so yummy and fresh. The dessert bar was an overwhelming selection of delightful sweets. This may become a new weekend destination. Don't forget the complimentary Bloody Mary or mimosa. During the week there is a pizza lunch buffet that is out of this world with salad and drinks. The dinner selection is a wonderful treat with tasty apps and full entrees. With all these delights you may hardly notice the decor fit for a king with wonderful paintings and wallpaper. read more

We stopped here on our way to New Hampshire back from Prince Edward Island in Canada. I believe the actual name of the restaurant is "Cloud 9." What a great feast we had. There were six of us and we were quickly and easily seated. My mother-in-law had the lobster dinner which she said was bigger and better than what she had on PEI. I had the crab cakes which were awesome. Lots of crab, not too much breading and a good light mustard sauce to go w/them. They had a good selection of local beers. I didn't expect that on the east coast. My wife got the mushroom ravioli which was okay (a bit too sweet). Afterwards, we split the fresh strawberry pie which was terrific. Sweet plump berries abounded. The server was great. She put up with us very well. Maine was a very boring state to drive through, and the total lack of cities on our drive occasionally made it scary. Having a place like Cloud 9 to stop at toward the end of a long day of driving was great. I'm sure it's just as good when you're not tired, too. read more

I didn't give the hotel a very good review but the restaurant? Loved it! The waitress was really sweet and the food was fresh and delicious. Try the crab cakes! I'm finicky about crab cakes and I was blown away. YUM. The salad bar was great: so many cheeses (my greatest love/downfall) and breads (another love/downfall). Steak and lobster was delicious. I also really like the art decorating the walls (for sale, as well). Funky and kitschy but some of them I actually considered buying. While I wouldn't stay at the hotel again, I would go out of my way to go back to Cloud 9. read more

Be advised that we only had the privilege of 1 meal at CLOUD 9 and it was the Sunday brunch buffet, so I really can't speak about the regular menu, however for brunch... BRAVO! My daughter and I and my 12 year old son had an amazing over stuffed brunch -- we are all Gluten free- the waitress Sophia was a doll - she checked out everything we wanted to eat and told us what was gluten free and what wasn't - we ended up eating WAY too much ( it was that good) for starters they had 3 separate buffets - a salad bar ( home made pickled beats and the very best broccoli salad I have ever had anywhere ) a breakfast buffet and a dessert buffet ( damn we ate so much ! ) they also had a fresh omelet station ( choose your own ingredients ) and a carving station - rare roast beef and fresh ham. They made us alternative eggs Benedict on a bed of spinach and tomatoes ( Hold the Gluten muffin ) we also had fresh crisp bacon, home fries, cheese omelet, salad bar, and for desert ( there were at least 20 choices - and lot's of home backed pies and tarts but all gluten ) we were able to have the home made chocolate moose with fresh whipped cream, some mini creme broulee with a lemon ginger essence in the crusted sugar ( oh GEEZ you have no idea how good it was - we showed excellent self control by NOT licking out the little saucers like cats! ) and fresh strawberries with a chocolate fondue. Reasonable price for such a huge amount of very lovely fresh food -- I highly recommend you try it. read more

Clam chowder to die for. Onion soup was great. Local oysters (actually Connecticut tonight), last time from Maine fresh and delicious. Seafood sensation mix of everything was raved about. Filet and prime rib both excellent. Food and service always commendable here, we had large party of ten tonight, stayed almost three hours, unrushed, crème brulee exceptionally good tonight served in three small ramekins, homemade ice crème also excellent. Went here on 2 occasions while we stayed at the Inn. We went here for dinner and the staff was awesome! They were right on top of everything! My water glass and soda were always full, plates cleared immediately. I had the lobster roll and it was great! My friend had the vegetarian asian noodle salad and loved it. We also had the hummus and pita's as an app very good. Also we had the rhubarb and strawberry dessert. We also came here for the continental breakfast the next morning it was great. The staff is just so friendly . I even noticed that all the staff had bobby pins in their hair for stray hairs just a precaution for hair.falling in your plate i assume.( I notice things like this because I did work in the food business at one point) But it shows they really care. Went for dinner while staying at the Inn. The food was above average. Why it gets 2 stars, I paid $22.95 for baked stuffed shrimp. The shrimp and asparagus were great. The wild rice was cold. What ticked me off the most was being up charged $5.95 to have the salad bar with my dinner. I only went here because I was staying at the Inn. Best pizza in Augusta. Thin crust that is crispy. Had the wheat crust with carmelized onions and mushrooms and pesto, excellent. Fresh ingredients with a great crust. It was sweet with the onion and salty with pesto. Also they have a desert cart, can I say any more. Had the four small petite deserts, tiramisu, chocolate mousse and creme brule. Hungry and traveling through Augusta on Easter Day, finding little to eat, this place was an oasis in the desert of crappy corporate chain food and random little places that were either closed on Easter or had a limited menu because of the holiday. Cloud 9 had a huge buffet of delicious options. Both the meat-eater and the vegaquarian were well satisfied after this brunch buffet. The desserts were ridiculously good. The food wasn't AMAZING by Boston standards, but for Easter Day in Augusta, this was terrific. Great service, too. read more

Excited about our weeklong trip in Maine and on our way through decided to stop for our first meal featuring, of course, lobster. Ordered the regular eggs Benedict, the lobster Benedict and the blueberry pancakes. The $8 difference between the regular and the lobster Benny wasn't justified because I could barely find the lobster on my plate. Hollandaise sauce was very good though and the big hit of the day were the blueberry pancakes. Overall just so-so. Looking forward to great meals in Maine but somewhere else. read more
