We split a very large chef's salad that tasted fresh, crisp, and clearly made to order -- definitely big enough for two and what appeared to be homemade chunky blue cheese dressing I also ordered the mango habanero chicken wings, and they were outstanding. Very mediocre food, at best. We stopped in for a late lunch yesterday. My wife ordered the chicken stuffed with cranberries, grapes, and brie. I went with crab stuffed Haddock, and we had a calamari appetizer. My wife's chicken was bland and the brie cheese was nonexistent. Also, her baked potato was brown inside. And my wife's cocktail wasn't prepared as advertised on the menu. My Haddock meal was equally lackluster. Our waitress never really engaged us or came back to ask how everything was (and the place was pretty dead, being mid-afternoon). I guess if you're coming here to drink, the subpar food won't bother you much. No return visit to the Lion's Den Tavern in our future. read more

Food is pretty decent most of the time but other times it's not.. but I will say they have a nice atmosphere here and the staff is usually attentive. I like the down stairs and the upstairs how they have different vibes going on I tried a jalapeno margarita here woaaaaghh it was spicy not bad but not for me. Service was phenomenal!!! The food....well, if I wanted to have a reheated meal, I would've stayed at home and eaten the premade frozen fish I already have. I came here for some fresh haddock, and I got Walmart brand frozen haddock. Literally tastes no different than what you get at the store. Everything here is frozen and reheated. The only thing made fresh to order is the water they get from the tap. Do not get ANYTHING fish if you want fresh. read more

Rylie (spelling sorry) was our server for a girls night out and did such a wonderful job. Attentive, kind, great attitude. I got a margarita(delicious), wings, and steak medium rare (I wish there were mashed potatoes) it was cooked to perfection and the wings are the best I've had in town in a while perfect amount of crisp and sauce. My wife and I ordered the steak tips and the salmon. Both were extremely salty to the point that it was difficult to taste the food at all. The vegetables, she had asparagus and I had Brussels sprouts, were overcooked and as heavily salted as the fish and steak. We left most of the meals uneaten and left as soon as we paid the bill. This is the third and last time I'll be dining here. The first meal was really good soon after they opened. Not so true anymore. I left feeling as though I'd just flushed $100 down the toilet after ordering three sodas, baked potato skins and 3 entrees. First off the potato skins were literally 2.5 small potatoes cut in half for $14.99! Since there were three of us we had to cut those in half too. Very expensive and underwhelming. Then came the entrees. A steak sub with fries, chicken Alfredo pasta and mac n cheese with pulled pork. The steak had a chemical taste and my companion could only eat a few bites. The chicken Alfredo had a couple hunks of chicken and then my daughter found a hair. The last entree looked and tasted horrible. Pulled pork buried in an orange sea of cheesy goo. The plate was so off putting and the dish was so heavy. I could barely find the pork amongst the mess of pasta. When I did it wasn't worth the effort. The waitress never checked on us due to being busy and instead sent a manager to clear our still very full plates either not a word-didn't even ask if we'd like it packed up. If that isn't telling not sure what is. It ended up being an $80 bill for $20 worth of food. With tip it was a hundred. It's just so discouraging to take out a family only to have the food suck and your wallet emptied. Never again. read more

Great tavern with some good draft beer choices and some unique cocktails to boot. I sat at the bar and received friendly and prompt service, taking advantage of their beer flight on special for Tuesdays (pictured). With the exception of some kids that were hanging a rough evening it wasn't loud at all and I was able to communicate with the bartender and those around me easily. I could have used my appetizer earlier with the drinks but it came with the entree but both were delicious (pictured - crab Rangoon and cowboy ribeye). We were there late, after an hour many had left. Somewhat quieter. Food was ok. Chili was more like mush and taste neutral. It's been a year or two since I've had it there and then it was very good. Food-good Service- We ordered a drink. She returned with that promptly and wanted to take our order right then. We complied food took an appropriate amount of time to cook. Food was dropped off and we never saw our server again. After being done for 25 minutes we tried to get the attention of the host to ask for the bill no luck. Then while we waited for her to take our card to the register we watched her stop at another table. She got them another drink and brought it to them before giving us our bill. Apps were fair, entree's were crap. I ordered steak tips. There were only five of them in a strange sauce that was totally over salted. The baked potato was hard as a rock and cold. One of my dinner companions ordered a fish sandwich with chips, instead they got fish bites and fries. Service, meh. The appetizer plates were taken away so I needed a new fork. Well, how did we not know about this place! Someone that I had an appointment with had told me about this place and said it was their favorite place in Waterville. I had never heard of it and told my husband that it seemed like a place we should try. We ended up in Waterville, running some errands, and decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed! There are two levels to the place and the upstairs part is closed for renovations so all service was on the lower level. The lower part had a variety of seating options: the bar, high tops, small tables for two and then some regular tables for multiple people. The waitstaff was friendly and efficient. There was an ample menu with a variety of options for a variety of diners. There was also a weekly specials list on each table. No guessing what the specials prices were or waitstaff having to verbally list them. So double bonus points for that! Hubby was the picky one this time and asked a few questions and gave the waitress a backup option in case there was celery in the shepherds pie. I went with the soup du jour which was chicken, sausage and kale soup. We did not opt for an adult beverage but there were over twenty beers on tap. So if that's your thing you should have a difficult decision to make. We were very pleased with our food. It was hot and plentiful. Hubby's shepherds pie came in a generous casserole dish and was very satisfying comfort food. I tried a bite and it was wonderful. My soup was piping hot and full of big chunks of veggies besides the chicken, sausage and kale as advertised. It was well seasoned and hit the spot on a brisk November day. Hubby had leftovers to bring home and enjoy the next day. Prices were very reasonable and the food was made with fresh ingredients, so it was a win win. The sound levels in there were good at lunch so I can't speak to the noise level at dinner. We definitely will be going back again when we are in Waterville. While visiting the Waterville area, we were told this place has a prime rib special on Thursdays. So we gave it a shot. We chose their outdoor seating that was just lovely with kite style shading. The service and food were excellent. But, perhaps the best (unexpected) part of the evening was the live music. We totally enjoyed a local musician whose name is Richie. I don't remember his last name, but he us an amazing musician. And, he played such a variety of instruments. Including guitar, harmonica, flute, and a steel drum. Very very cool! If we lived here, we would return every time this guy shows up to play. read more
