Excellent customer service! If they are busy (which is often all day on the weekends), they will take your name and number and will call you when your table is ready. Location - Great thing about their location is there are plenty of places to kill time while waiting for your table - local shops or Waterville Creates. We were there on a Saturday and we arrived around 2:30 for an late lunch/early dinner. To our surprise, there was a 25 minute wait! It's a popular family restaurant as well. It's a lot bigger inside than it seems from the outside. When you walk in, there are mostly high tables and a long bar with seating. Walk past the bar and on the right is a dining area with a lot more tables. We had 2 kids and 4 adults and we had plenty of room at a center table. There were booths along the wall. Our server was so great. So patient, and kind. She was great. She checked in regularly, our drinks never went dry. The food was excellent. We had the food for take out during the pandemic and thought it was ok. Having it in the restaurant - HUGE difference. I got the cheese curd burger without the top bun. My nephew loved his chicken wings, my niece loved her mac and cheese. We all loved our burgers and my bro-in-law liked his reuben. This is a small town but things were really bustling on a Saturday night at 6:00 PM! We had to wait 30 minutes but they have a nice selection of beers on tap so the time went by quickly. This is just an observation but it looked like the entire front of the house (host, wait staff, bartender) were women. I had a couple of nice IPAs and it really hit the spot. Our waitress was superb! She was always smiling and had a great attitude working with customers and the rest of the staff. One mistake on my part however, is ordering the beef brisket in a place named The Proper Pig! I asked if it was like Texas brisket and she said yes. I should have gone with the pulled pork because the brisket was just so-so. See my picture below as there's some un-rendered fat which should never be the case if it were properly smoked. The sauce was awesome - the right amount of sweet and spicy and good thickness. I got the a la carte portion so I ordered the potato skins to go with it. They were really good. We also had a burger on the table which got devoured very quickly! Needless to say it was good! It confuses me how this place is a well rated as it is!? Nothing here is amazing by any stretch, the service is good and it's sorta cute with a good location, but there's nothing else reframing here. I had the mac and cheese and I would ABSOLUTELY SWEAR it was Kraft Mac N Cheez. It tasted like Kraft and the macaroni was IDENTICAL to Kraft. I even had my wife try it and she just started laughing. Another rare 5 ...Been going here since they opened years ago, have had ZERO bad meals. Service and bartenders are extremely friendly and attentive. Decent ambiance good sized bar and ample seating in the rear of the place. The food is absolutely delicious, I don't know if they have some sort of southern cooking background but visiting Nashville, New Orleans and other southern states multiple times they definitely match just fine. First time visiting Waterville. Was taken by a local for lunch at the Proper Pig. Because "they serve great vegetarian options". We ordered an empanada and I "Stacked the Mac with brisket. Both were excellent choices. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating areas. Along with a large bar with tall barstools. The inside lighting is kept a bit dim, but at lunchtime there was sufficient enough light to easily read the menu. Keep in mind the inside includes the bar and there will be some noise that might overpower the music. But we could easily have our conversation between each other. I noticed other customers had ordered burgers and were not shortchanged by the sizes and portions of the sides! I could not finish my Mac and Cheese and now have a snack for tomorrow! Stopped here on a Wednesday summer evening, after seeing a long line for their food truck at snow pond center for the arts. I'm glad we didn't wait in that line before. The ambiance is lovely, along with the service. But the food is not worth it. We got brisket and ribs, the brisket was very overdone. I didn't try the ribs. Hi Friends, Bebopped down to ole Waterville, ME to catch a show at the Opre House (Waterville Opera House). Got into town early, so I boot scooted across the green space and went to the Proper Pig for a late lunch. Their chowder is top notch, and despite the porcine themed name & logo, the waitress recommended the brisket sandwich. And said sandwich was a delight. With a near steampunk vibe in the interior, the place manages to feel both old school Maine and contemporary all at once I was not drinking, but they have a large selection of Maine based beers on their taps wall, including a cider So if you're gonna be in the Waterville area, it's well worth the stop. We stopped to meet a group of friends and was pleasantly surprised how good the meal and service was. The table had four different delicious appetizers, fried cheese curds, crab cakes, poutine, and fried pickles. Keri and I shared a bbq platter that consisted of brisket (which was a little dry) the ribs and pulled pork both stole the show. They have a really good selection of local craft beers, some of which are rebranded with the name of Proper Pig. I think they are made by Waterville Brewing Co. The walls have whimsical pig signs. Was in the area we stopped here on Saturday for an early dinner . Not from the area . Found it on google . The place was very dark and busy . Very crowded . We were lucky to get a booth . Most of the seating is high top . Checked out the menu before arriving . Was excited . Started with two apps . The pork belly pops . Not what we expected . I don't think they were cooked all the way . I had a hard time cutting with a fork , They were stringy not gelatinous and soft with 3 large tooth picks. The pork belly slabs were like 3-4 inches long. Could not eat them with a tooth pick , empanada were good . Guest had the Big Wig Pig which also had the stringy pork belly which they took off . I had the big chubs which was extremity greasy , could not pick up and eat as it fell apart . We ordered a coffee and a lemonade to drink . Both were good but charged full price for a refill . I got the caramel cheese cake to go . Please see picture attached . I think it was in house made as it was not sweet . Bacon was undercooked and soft . This pub food cost more than fine dining in my area . Not worth the price . Flavor was lacking . Waitress was too busy to be attentive . Also . Poor set up . People coming from the back door walking by all the people . And sweaty kitchen staff constantly running around the tables . Back and forth . Not sure what was going on. This was my first time at this restaurant today. My dining partner had macaroni and cheese with kielbasa, and he said it was excellent. I had a beet and goat cheese salad with salmon on top. The salmon was extremely salty, almost to the point where I could hardly eat it. The rest of the ingredients in the salad were very good, especially the nuts. The dressing was kind of lacking, however. I wish I had ordered some extra dressing. When we got the bill, it was very confusing because it did not include a place to leave a tip. I asked about it and they said they had a new cash register system that would not allow a tip, but that I could still put it on my slip.So I did, but I'm not sure I will be rushing back. read more

Clean, spacious restaurant! The stogies appetizer is absolutely delicious, I highly recommend it. My husband absolutely loved this donut burger, saying it was the best one he's ever had. I however, didn't care for the actual burger patties at all and took them off my sandwich. Next time I would skip ordering a burger and I'm sure I'd love anything else from there. Hi I am local from Oakland and I love eating at local restaurants. I normally don't leave reviews but I feel have to talk about it. I had heard great things about The Proper Pig and I could hardly get in every time I thought about trying it. Anyway for my anniversary with my partner went there just before it got busy around 4. We had ordered the poutine which I was bit surprised form the lack of cheese as I grew up near Canada up North. The sausage gravy and fries were good I just wish it had more cheese. Our server was nice at first however she wouldn't take our plate even after signaling them. When our main course came she would not really talk to us or ask us how it was. The other server that came with our main course had to take care of it and the table we were at was very small so it was difficult for her. If our main server did come up and ask us how it was I would have told her how everything was. As we were waiting for our check and lights were turned on for the evening there were cobwebs everywhere. The fan above the bar was caked in dust. The chandelier near the bar had lots of cobwebs. The Food: We had ordered the poutine which I was bit surprised form the lack of cheese as I grew up near Canada. The sausage gravy and fries were good I just wish it had more cheese. My partner ordered the fried haddock basket, which was served in a pasta bowl. It was bland in flavor and dry. The coleslaw threw them off as it was minced not shredded and very wet in the container to the point you could strain it. I had ordered the Mac n cheese which has it own section on the menu. I had really hopes for it based on other reviews. However it too was bland and over cooked pasta the flavor just reminded me of boxed Mac n cheese. The breadcrumbs where just piled in the middle under my dried fried chicken. The cutlery was dull so it was difficult to cut food. We had ordered the Expresso Pie with our food as we had high hopes. However the cream pie was grainy with sugar and just way too sweet. The price of everything with no alcohol was 70 between the two of us. I know some people recommend but I wouldn't and I believe if its on your menu it should be executed properly. It was a poor first experience and probably won't give it another chance. read more

I have to admit I was surprisingly conflicted about eating here. My sister lives in the area and had been once previously so she gave it a very strong recommendation. On this visit I went with my sister since it was me visiting without my kids. We ordered our appetizers of onion rings, pork belly shots, Pesto flat bread pizza, and cheeseburger soup. She selected something else to bring home in the hopes of it being better. My Burger featured onion rings and pulled pork on top and I was surprisingly disappointed at the quality of the pork. It had little to no flavor and actually tasted a bit vinegar question work definitely acidic. I won't claim to be a pulled pork expert, but it is a family favorite and I've eaten it quite often in my life. So I found this very disappointing. Given the exceptional quality of the appetizer, I'm inclined to give them another chance. It could have been a badd day in the kitchen or it could be today chose something that wasn't to my taste.
