Fish and chicken basket. Looks much better than it tasted. - A red tray holds fried chicken tenders, chicken nuggets, and fried fish fillets, served with crinkle-cut fries, on a table at a restaurant.

So this was always one of my favorite places to eat. But somewhere along the line the batter changed. Weve been coming off and on for years. A couple years ago we threw most of our food in the trash because it just didn't taste good. Today we decided to give it another go. The fish was ok but definitely didn't taste like it used to. The chicken wss horrible. We brought some home to my daughter who also always loved their food and she tossed it in the garbage. Its ok but I doubt we will go again. I wish I had the old batter recipe. It was delicious!

One year ago we found the Red Barn & loved it. 365 days later here we are again!!! 1 hour 15 minute drive from Old Orchard Beach. The time to get here, the gas used makes no difference. The Red Barn is one of Maine's great treasures. The owner Laura is such a giver. Her food trucks go to Nursing homes Veterens home & every meal given is for free. Laura is a live walking Angel. We had her amazing seafood stew, clam strips & whole belly clams. We ate too much everything was awesome. We have enough left overs fo another meal or two.

Cheeseburger - A sandwich with a bun, lettuce, and cheese is placed in a white takeout container, with a drink visible in the background.

This place is hopping. Huge outside seating area so many options table outside ,tables in shelters ,games lots of parking. A good menu. I regrettably did not get the fried chicken or seafood but next time will do better. They both looked so good. I did get a photo of someone else's. We got the homemade onion rings a large order could last 2 days it was a very generous portion and so good. The cheeseburger got a great review as did the chocolate shake and coleslaw. The grilled chicken on a gluten free bun was just ok but I get that I was at a place that specializes in fried food so I won't judge too much . I will say I was baffled that it was pieces of chicken not a whole filet which makes it harder to eat as the chicken kept falling out. The GF bun was not the best but that's how those things are . I will say the fried food looked amazing and would recommend that. Service was great very efficient and accommodating.

A variety of fried foods including chicken nuggets, onion rings, and French fries are served with a lobster roll and drinks on a red outdoor table.

Great roadside stop with huge portions and a super casual vibe. The batter on everything is light and crispy, not greasy at all. Loved the option to choose between baskets (with fries) and pints (no fries). We tried: * Scallop and shrimp pints (both were really fresh, and the scallops were huge) * Deep-fried veggie basket (generous mix of mushrooms, zucchini, broccoli, bell peppers, and onions. Broccoli and mushrooms were the standouts) * Lobster roll with fries (still good, just not my personal preference--had large claw meat and I usually like smaller chunks and a buttered, grilled bun) * Black raspberry shake (classic and delicious) Massive outdoor seating area with plenty of picnic tables. Great spot when you have a dog. Porta potties available if you need one. Overall, not a bad pit stop on the way back to Boston.

The food is great the seafood stew was flavorful and done to perfection! The fish was moist, tender and flavorful. My husband got the scallops and there was so many he barely finished them. Service is order at the counter but was fast and hot when it came. The place has that relaxed comfortable feel and is set up well. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the Augusta area!

We got the Laura's famous seafood stew to go and it was delicious, full of lots of seafood, and absolutely hit the spot! The sizes seemed a little small for a large family but definitely worth it!

This place has the best lobster roll I have eaten in new england. Their seafood chowder is ridiculous - more seafood than chowder. So good. Great staff. Cool atmosphere. There were some girl scouts selling ice cream or something in the parking lot too - very cute. Ill be back next year!

Lobster roll, famous stew, Cole slaw - A lobster roll with seafood salad, a cup of clam chowder, and a side of coleslaw on a plastic tray, served at a restaurant.

And the addition of the mac and cheese really rounded out this savory, delightful dish. My one critique is that the fries themselves were not my preference, slightly crisp but definitely not hand cut. They were tossed with a sweet fry seasoning, which made the dish a little too sweet for my taste. The honey garlic fried chicken sandwich was also delicious! The fried chicken was topped with the sauce instead of coated (unlike the chicken in the kitchen sink fries), but it was still good. The sauce was delicious and the chicken was high quality and well balanced with all the toppings. We also got grilled haddock tacos, which were amazing! They were huge and looked a bit like a take on "white people taco night" but that would be wrong because the flavor was there! The haddock was well-seasoned and cooked to perfection. The tortillas were fine, nothing special, but the sauces and toppings were fresh and flavorful. Overall, this place offers delicious food and has friendly staff. We'll definitely be back for some mac and cheese, haddock tacos, and honey garlic chicken!

Lots of beers on tap to try including local beer from some of Maine's finest and a good selection of mixed drinks and wine of courser. The food is standard pub grub. I've had eaten here for years and the food is consistent, portions are generous, and you certainly won't leave hungry. There are stick-to-your-ribs bangers and mash, the Guinness stout beef pot pie is popular (comes out with a puff pastry topping the size of your head), and this is one of the few places in Maine where you can get a Scotch Egg. I like the Cornish pasties myself - they taste like grandmas home cooking. I recommend starting with the highland bites with a tangy mustard sauce to dip in or the spinach artichoke dip with lots of tortillas. I was in a big group on my last visit and we all just ordered a bunch of apps and nom'd on them family style. Wings were amazing too, cooked well and seasoned perfectly. The servers are super friendly, your drinks and food comes out quickly, even when they are super busy. This makes a great lunch stop for working professionals in the downtown businesses. They offer live music regularly and on those nights it can get loud, not the best if you want intimate conversation. But, if you want rollicking Irish music around friends and beers - this is the place. The establishment is fairly large so they can accommodate groups, and there is a screened-in deck (that is also heated for winter dining). The atmosphere is similar to what you'd expect in a local Irish pub. TV's scattered around the place, the benches at the long large tables appear to be repurposed church pews so that's neat. They definitely have local regulars and the owner is usually around, everyone is welcome here and you will have a good time while eating and drinking with your crew! Plenty of free parking in lots, the street, and the nearby parking garage, handicap accessible.

I was a little chilly by the end of my meal, with goosebumps. But no complaints, like I said, it was muggy outside. I'll take the cool when I can get it! The waitress staff were BUSY today! Carefully marching around platters of many drinks in glasses, navigating foot traffic, small children nearly feral, some heavy doors, and a flight of stairs to the various levels of patio. Kudos to your athleticism for that accomplishment! Goodness! I helped the door open for one young lady that was sweating by bullets carrying about nineteen cold beers on one hand. Food was STELLAR!
