Boom Boom Shrimp Appetizer is one of the best and biggest around. Will definitely go back and try this out again.

It 's been more than a year since I last went to a 99 Restaurant, and it hasn't changed much. Still offering popcorn as a table snack was fun. The server was pretty milk-toast, and that was okay. I didn't need entertainment. I ordered french onion soup which was pretty horrific. Sweet, mostly bread, and barely melted cheese. The mozzarella rounds that we ordered for the table were good, although it seems that they were smaller that the ones I'm used to getting. The surprise was the cheeseburger, which was cooked medium rare and was seasoned well. Kudos for that. Fries? Forget them-they were gnarly. All in all, not a great experience, but not the worst. read more

This is a comfort food restaurant, think Dennys, Chillies etc., same kinda ambience, food quality, service etc. We came here after a long day and were very hungry. Our waitress was very nice. She started us with complimentary popcorns. We also got the house margarita which for $4.99 was pretty darn good. For entree, the waitress sold us on the dinner+side+dessert combo. We were too tired and hungry and didn't really think it through only to realize that we ordered too much food. I ordered the twin catch with clam chowder soup and a mini dessert - mocha brownie and husband ordered a cheeseburger with a cheesecake. The food was just ok, baked halibut & shrimp was bland, burger was alright and the mini desserts were also a let down. I did enjoy the clam chowder though. Overall, won't recommend this place, come here if you are out of options or for the margarita. read more

Arriving for dinner I was greeted by the hostess who was less than helpful. To tell me she's seating me in an area where the server hasn't arrived yet is definitely disheartening. We did have a fill in waitress who did a great job but it went downhill from their. Our orders were screwed up (for a table of six..not good) they brought drinks that weren't ordered and my food was really bad. The seafood chowder is really not good at all. I did like the wedge salad. Hard to screw that up. One thing I must say.. the French onion soup had a slice of processed cheese (the kind individually wrapped) on top.. floating. Super disappointed. The boneless wings are allll dough and no chicken. If you get the sangria it's huge but all fruit juice. I do not recommend this restaurant. read more

My parents live in the Augusta area, so we've been to this 99 a few times. It's pretty much like every other 99. Our food is always decent and the prices are good. We've had Toni as our waitress a couple of times and she is a gem! So nice and she always thanks my dad and fiancé for their military service. My dad is 96 and a Korean War veteran. She insisted on walking him out to the front door and it was very cute. read more

Thought this place was awesome! Stopped here on the way home from MDI and found it to be exceptional for a roadside option. Food was delicious. Service was great too. Nice big booths and lots of fun things for the kids to do. Only thing is I wish the kids menus had more games. read more

I have been going to this restaurant for 20 plus years. It was a privately owned "chain" back in the day. Sold out prior to the founders' death to a national restaurant group; but they kept the staff which is phenomenal!!! I've never had a poorly cooked meal at this restaurant. What a great restaurant! I just pulled into town, and I'm staying at the comfort inn in this restaurant is right out in front of the comfort inn. Walk in they've got the Red Sox playing the bartenders are working their butts off and very attentive to all the people sitting around the bar, there wasn't one of them taking it easy! Miss Andrea was quick to take my order and it came out perfectly served, the salmon with asparagus carrots and broccoli, and a couple beverages that was ice cold! We went for dinner on a Thursday night. We were seated immediately. Our server was Becka. She was the absolute BEST!!!! So friendly, gave good recommendations on what to order, super efficient and just a delight!!! We were impressed with our steak tip, chicken and salad. The hot fudge sundae was huge!!! Hint: more flavor! I asked my mother where she wanted to go to lunch. She chose the 99. We've been here before and I've liked it. Today our Hostess was a little lackluster, Jennifer just look like she was unimpressed on being there. However sharing our waitress was over-the-top amazing and wonderful. We ordered from the specials menu, my mother wanted the prime rib Rice Bowl and I got to the prime rib sandwich. Mother asked if it was possible to do the rice bowl without mushrooms. Sharing told us that it was all mixed together. But my mother ended up getting was the mac and cheese, which was fine because it was something that she really was looking at as well, with no mushrooms. The mac and cheese these a little bit to be desired the cheese sauce is flimsy and very subtle in flavor. My sandwich was supposed to have horseradish sour cream on it's. And again I tasted no horseradish. Horseradish is not something that you can hide easily in a dish the meat was good I would have cooked the onions a little longer but the mushrooms are lovely, texture was nice. Again not bad food just not great. I can't even say run of the mill. At first I thought this coming across mediocre food was all me but I've been to these restaurants with other people and each time it has been a different group of people in Dallas said the same thing. read more

Yes, it's a chain but they do it well. My wife and I visited for a quick meal on our way to Southern Maine. Promptly seated, everyone masked up and our server, David, was excellent. We mentioned we were short on time and he had our drinks on the table in 90 seconds. I had the bacon burger and it was cooked perfectly and hot, no sitting under the lights. We went to 99 with high hopes, over the years it's had been a regular on our cycle of restaurants we visit. First, listening to the wait staff loudly banter and bicker back and forth was very immature and unprofessional. Second and more importantly they've revamped the menu, and not in a good way, reduced to 4 choices for a chicken entree opting to get rid of the major reason I used to like going, the chicken Parm.. that's a thing of the past now, and for her, the cranberry and glazed walnut salad with blue cheese crumbles and kalamata olives... Again no longer available. I settled on chicken mac and cheese with the gold fever sauce... It was served in a sizzle pan, that was not sizzling however still mostly hot. It was hot on top, the chicken was not as hot, and it was hot on the bottom where it has sizzled to the pan, but the Mac and cheese in the middle was barely warn. She got the honey barbecue boneless wings which were fine, till the bill came. The server brought the bill and we opted to each pay for it own meals as we usually do... So we sent her back with 2 cards and the explanation of what was you go where. Fine. No problem. Almost 10 minutes later she came back with our bills. Mine was fine, but my girlfriend's was basically twice what it should have been as her meal was on special, very obviously on the table tent and the flyer that was given us. Now let me state, that we had asked the server if this was available where we were sitting as the tent said in bar only, and she went to check and see if it was and came back saying it was. ( The whole reason for her ordering them in the first place). So I had to find another server and ask to have our server please come back to the table. Finally after 10 or so more minutes of listening to the staff ask each other where she was, the manager ( I assume, as she never identified herself ) came over and asked if she could help. Terrible chowder. NO flavor, more warm milk than anything else. The value of the meals is a great value. Balsamic chicken is very good but they akimp on the marinade and balsamic now. I had LITERALLY 3 small pieces of broccoli on my plate..2 HOT, 1 ice cold...huh? We have been her multiple times, AND I WILL GIVE IT another chance, but was not impressed this trip around. Nothing more frustrating than ordering online, giving a more than fair tip for curb side getting home and your order is not correct. This happens about 40% of the time when I order from here. You can call and point this out and get a "I am sorry". Not my first complaint. 99 Corporate will respond but not the location. Best thing they can do is offer their take-out employees a reading and paying attention to details class. Should not be that difficult!! read more

Staying at the comfort inn next door for a business trip. Not much choice around, after all I am in Augusta, Maine, population 18,000. The restaurant was surprisingly busy (for Augusta, Maine ), I guess that this rating is relative to what you have next door. This restaurant would have not even received 1 star if we were in a big city. I got the ribs. They were not very well cooked. I also got a green beer in celebration to st-Patrick day, which was nice. For dessert, I had some sort of chocolate pie made with ice cream. It was a bit too sweet for my taste. Overall I would not recommend this place, but if you are in Augusta, Maine (18,000) you might not have much choice. read more

A friend and I stopped in here after a long craft fair knowing there were foods they had specifically we liked. We were rewarded! The food was very good (there were some kitchen errors but they were corrected immediately and in a friendly manner). Our waitress Becka was outstanding. I visit 99's when ever I am near one this is not my first visit here however it is the first time in 12 years had 2 very bad visits here and just stopped going. Was in town for 4 days decide to visit. Nice improvements still not up to par with others however food was excellent. Servers need to be more attentive and smiles would be nice. Seems to be something that they only do for people they know. Margarita's were average however happy hour prices may have made them taste better. Cleanliness was excellent and food quality was well above average. In the service business service can't be second rate. A smile and looking your customer in the not looking at your smart phone goes a long way. Don't believe your phone leaves you a tip. read more

We have been here plenty of times in the past and received 5 star service. We went tonight and was sat by a waiter. We had the worst service ever. Waiter apologized at the beginning as he was cleaning up the floor around the booths. Promptly comes over for our drink order, and we order 2 different beers. A few minutes pass and I see the waiter standing there with our beers in his hands just shooting the breeze with his co-workers. About 5 goes by and we finally get our drinks. He proceeds to tell us that he is unsure which beer is which as he did not put the orange slice on the shock top when he poured it. He said to us in sorry but they both look so similar, I forgot which is which. Whatever, we figure it out. He takes our dinner order. Dinner arrives and he brings two meals. One correct and one completely incorrect. He seemed taken back when we said neither one of us ordered this, and went back to get the correct meal. Made us feel like he just wasn't in it to be there tonight. Maybe he needed more sleep or whatever, but he clearly was not a good waiter.
