Recent visit sat at the bar with a friend to celebrate her birthday. Ordered a Corona/lime that arrived ice cold and refreshing after a hot day. My friend got a signature Margarita but did not like it. We both got burritos minus toppings. They were very hot plates and food. My burrito was delicious and hearty. It was made just the way I like it. My friend also enjoyed hers. The service as always was fun and light hearted. For a Monday it was very busy and people were waiting for tables when we left. I'm not sure what some of these reviewers expect. I've eaten here about 4-5 times. First, it's open later than most things in this state, where they seem to roll up the sidewalks at 7:30. I never seen it dirty and the cre s have always been friendly and quick to clean up. Drinks are cold. Food has always been good. The carne asada is give a "B" but everything else I had was good. I typically don't like Mexican food and have eaten a lot in California and although it is "chain authentic" it's all pretty darn good. read more

We wanted to like this place because it came recommended from our nearby hotel. The food is not completely bad, it just took forever for them to come out. My son felt some kind of way about not getting his shrimp appetizer until dinner and then it only had 5 shrimp. Husband was upset because the table next to us who came in quite a bit later was served at the same time as us. Special requests, such as no sour cream, were not remembered. I ordered takeout and got queso and the molten lava cake. I got such a small bag of chips that was half full to go with the queso and there was so much queso left I couldn't eat it. :( The molten lava cake was also cold? I thought they would've at lasted warmed it up so the chocolate was melted like it's supposed to with lava cake. It seemed like they pulled it straight from the fridge into a to go container. Please educate your servers on the difference between a frozen strawberry daiquiri and a frozen pina colada. The waitress never came back to the table after she delivered the wrong drink until it was time to pay so I had to pay for the disgusting pina colada that I didn't finish because pineapple is gross and I never got what I ordered. Her response was "oh I'm sorry I must have picked up the wrong drink." The last time we came here it was horrible, and this time was no exception. starting off, we made a large party reservation and they were so great about it. The table was all set for us and we were sat immediately. The food was prepared quickly and was amazing. We were quoted a 30 minute wait and it was less than 20, and also via text, a major plus. I've been to margaritas in other locations, this one is similar to the others. The margaritas are definitely the best menu item, as they should be! They are consistently good. The food items are mediocre, though the Baja tacos I had were quite good but everything always seems to be just a bit overdone when I go- the taco shells have definitely sat under a lamp too long and the fish was tough. But they have good flavors. Every location I've been to always seems to be busy, with lots of families, dates, friends, etc. the restaurant seems to turn parties over relatively quickly and by 7pm it was definitely getting quieter (winter in central Maine!). Margaritas isn't my favorite Mexican place ever but this is my favorite for the area! read more

I have been a regular at this Margarita's for as long as I can remember. When I'm craving chips and salsa and a refreshing Blue Moon Margarita after a long week at work, this is my go-to place. I normally sit in the lounge, service is always fast. Never-ending warm chips and cold, fresh, semi-spicy salsa arrive quickly and are served with a smile. The chips are thin, salted perfectly, and are satisfyingly crunchy. The house salsa does have some kick to it, my 11-year old thinks it's too spicy, but I do not. Instead, she orders a small side of guac for $2 extra (I don't mind). The drinks are made fresh right before your eyes. The bar is always fully staffed and the bartenders are friendly, knowledgeable, and fast. My favorite is the Blue Moon Margarita on the rocks with sugar (I mean you can't go to Margarita's and NOT have a Margarita right?) The drink is so tasty; and let's face it, the bright turquoise blue color, with the pink sugared rim, it's as sexy as it is delicious! My daughter loves to try the different smoothies and virgin drinks they offer. Beer, wine, and full bar is also available. On my most recent visit, I tried the shrimp tacos off their summer menu specials, my daughter ordered the taco salad. Our food came quickly and was beautifully presented. The shrimp tacos were cooked perfectly, just the right portion size for me. The shrimp were deep fried, and paired well with the creamy avocado chunks, the tangy cilantro (which I love) all nestled down with pico de gallo inside a cool crisp lettuce leaf. The taco salad was served in a giant deep fried tortilla bowl and was the size of my daughters head! She ordered the chicken taco salad and I snatched a piece to see how it tasted. The chicken was cooked perfectly, seasoned well, and the entire forkful was bursting with southwest flavor! Every meal I have had there has been served hot, fresh, and promptly. The menu offers a wide variety of appetizers, salads, fajitas, tacos, even a "Gringo Burger" for those who aren't fans of Mexican food and amazing desserts! I have tried almost everything on the menu and the flavors are always there and the food quality is consistent. (I will say I am a little sad that the Queso Fundito is no longer on the menu it was my favorite app.) The restaurant itself is large and accommodating. Good for groups/large parties/special events. It's nicely furnished with southwestern/Mexican decor, the ambiance is clean, upbeat, friendly, and exciting. It just looks like staff are happy to be there, work well as a team, and they just seem like they are having fun at their work. If you want to sit outside under an umbrella'd table, there is a lovely outside patio that you can access through the lounge. On our last visit my daughter and I chose to sit outside, it was really lovely, but it was also summer in Maine which meant when the sun went down the mosquitoes came out. I was fine with it, but they did bother my daughter - no worries. I mentioned to our server that we'd like to move inside and she was great! She was more than accommodating in helping us move our food and drinks back into the lounge. She was totally cool with it and completely understood. I would give them a zero star if I could! The worst service I have ever experienced! My sister in law got there before us and said it was a party of 6, 3 adults and a teenage boy and 2 other boys. They sat her in a booth. When we got there I knew we would not be comfortable sitting in the booth with 6. We asked to move , the manager came over and said" whats the problem?" She was very condescending saying it. We asked to move to a bigger table. They moved us but wasnt happy about it. We ordered after a long wait , (not because we wasnt ready). After an hour we got our food which was wrong. We are from out of town so we did sit and visit with family(not long). Then they came over and said since you wanted to move , we need this table for a larger group coming in. I have never been asked to leave a dinner before in my 60 yrs of life. On a rainy, crappy stopover in Augusta on our way to points north, we picked margaritas for dinner based on its proximity to our hotel, and the fact it was not just a franchise we had at home, so we'd get to try something new. I feel bad for those reviewers who had trouble with the manager or the food, perhaps we got lucky, but our experience was excellent. The restaurant decor seems a little old (and carpet in a restaurant is not something you see much any more), but it was clean with perfect dinner lighting. We got seated right away and ordered house margaritas. They were delicious, and not at all stingy with the tequila. We hadn't planned more than one round but we ended up having two each because they were so good. The guac appetizer was great, with chunks of visible avocado. There was plenty for three people (our waitress brought more chips when we needed them). Entrees were the taster, chicken chimichanga, and roasted vegetable zarape. All three were excellent, and cooked perfectly. We each tried each others entrees and said "that's good!" Each time (so nine separate votes by three people). Honestly we had such a great experience I was shocked to see how many people didn't like it. All I can say is we really enjoyed it, and if we are ever in Augusta Maine again we would happily go again! read more

Came here on Veteran's Day, because they had a promo where a vet and one friend could both order anything on the menu for free... What a deal! So of course we had to get a couple of drinks, which helped wash down the complimentary chips and salsa. I know this place gets a lot of flack, and I get it... It's a chain, it's commercial, it's not "real" Mexican food, etc. I've been around the world but at heart, I have to admit to you guys that I'm still a basic white girl from Maine, so I'm pretty happy with pretty much any attempt at Mexican food, as long as it doesn't make me sick afterwards, and Margaritas has never done me like that. What I really like about Margaritas is the "naked" margs... Really great tasting beverages. The bartenders are hilarious and I will often choose a seat at the bar instead of a table just for the entertainment and banter. I hear that industry night is a hoot. Honestly I even like the style of this place. Colorful, loud, boisterous, I feel like I can be myself here and no one would notice because there's so much else going on. I appreciate the service at Margarita's, given how busy it was the night I was there. We had a large party, and the server did a great job keeping on top of everything. I just wish I'd enjoyed my food more. I hate tomatoes and onions and was careful to pick one of the few Mexican entrees that didn't mention tomato or onions-- the Baja tacos. But those came loaded with chopped tomato and onion all over them. By the time I scraped all that off, I hardly had anything in my tacos. Also, the grilled fish didn't have much flavor. This place is terrible! The service doesn't exist. I ordered a pretty simple meal - enchiladas. An hour passed... nothing. I found our server. Apparently it was sent to the wrong table. I don't think that is the truth. I honestly think my server got my order wrong. Another 20 mins, I found my server again to ask if they found my food.. she said they were remaking it. At that point, I didn't trust this restaurant and the food that they were serving so I cancelled my order. I didn't know if they were really remaking it or where it has been... Summary of service - server didn't even check us once. I had to find her each time to check on my food. She never came to our table to refill our drinks or our chips and salsa. She never apologized for our wait or experience. She didn't care whatsoever. I know we are in a pandemic but come on... checking on a table at least once isn't too much to ask for. We stopped in and had some after shopping lunch and had a great experience! Our food was amazing. We got the month flight of margaritas and they were all delicious. We also orders some Mayan Shrimp as an appetizer and they were great. Just the right amount of heat and the bed of salad they were on was awesome, nicely paired together. I got the Gringo Burger with fries and it was yummy. Dan got some fish tacos and he said they were great. Not fishy tasting, well prepared and very fresh tasting. Our server is what put our lunch over the top. You could tell the dining area was full and busy, with her having most the tables but she still managed to make her rounds and give us just the right amount of attention. Gotta get the Blood Orange "squeeze" margarita. It was perfect on the rocks with salt rim. The beef fajitas was like a righteous flank steak cooked to order--medium rare for me, then sliced. The crust of spices was awesome, the sauteed vegetables spot on. Then consider that they offered half black half refried beans. Good rice. And that side setup generous with cheese, sourcream and yummy guac. There was so much there I did not even touch the tortillas (your preference again of corn or flour). My son had a burrito and devoured it in one howl. I guess it was that good... The seating took up to 1 hour prior to my arrival. They had just cleared the waitlist so I am grateful to have been seated almost immediately without reservations on a Saturday night. Great attentive server who kept checking on me every few minutes while training another server. Chips and salsa were good. Might be nice to have some pico de gallo and hotter salsa options perhaps. But still an awesome option... dunno why the ratings are so much lower for a TexMex high volume place like this. read more

Coming it to Augusta past 9 oclock, options are not going to be on your side. Fast food, bar food were thought to be our only options. Until we found Margaritas, the joint opened till 1 am with a restaurant atmosphere. The architecture of the building is divine. A long 30 foot hallway entrance into the restaurant. Our waiter was kind, but seemed he had his head a bit in the clouds, he had mistaken 1 of our food orders, and 1 drink order. The steak fajitas were quite underwhelming to say the least. $25 dollars for a skimp 4 ounce if not even cut of overcooked steak? The peppers and onions also had a large amount of rancid oil residue. The serving sizes of the guacamole was also laughable. The only thing saving this restaurant from a 1 star review was the gorgeous architecture, can't say a word good about the food. I regret not saving a few bucks with going to the Wendy's. read more
