Decent food but there are not any options for a vegan/vegetarian protein (tofu, soy curls, etc.) just your standard regular vegetables and no vegan cheeses so the options for us are slim here. We had the veggie chimichanga and while it was a nice size, the veggies inside (mostly the cauliflower) were huge so it was hard to eat. The veggies would be much better cut smaller and more flavored. The black beans were served on the same plate as the crispy chimichanga and were very runny so it completely softened the chimichanga and turned it into mush on the bottom which totally ruined the chimi experience. The drinks were nice and strong and generously sized and were honestly the best part of the experience. It wasn't an epic experience but not the worst. The lighting was a bit bright as others mentioned but it didn't feel as dramatic as they conveyed in my opinion but taking the bulbs out of every other panel would be a good choice for ambiance sake. Went here for first time with friends. Greeter was a lil "not friendly", maybe he was having a bad night. But wait staff was really good and attentive. Food options were plentiful and something for everyone. Place is bright and open, inviting look and decor. Not too loud an not too quiet. Food was plentiful, had carnitas, and very tasty. We had variety of meals, all 6 of us were happy and thought all tasted great. Would def recommend this restaurant. Glad Waterville finally has another Mexican food option as the one there for years, well, let's just say, doesn't have or has lost that authentic Mexican flair/flavor. Stay safe! read more

We needed a place in Waterville to meet other friends and the vote was for Mexican . There were very few reviews, but when we learned the place was new, we thought we'd give it a shot. Between the three of us, we ordered steak fajitas, a ground beef burrito, & chili, Relano. The food was OK... Between a three and four. Service was fast and they were very kind. The furnace was broken and so I was freezing and got all the hot water and lemon I needed. I'd go back again to try it. My first concern was the construction going on in the parking lot out front; may have been a deal breaker for some...certainly not for us, we marched right past and were seated immediately -and for the entire meal we were waited on, and pampered. Our chips and salsa arrived, and then the drinks came- a margarita in what I'd say was in nothing short of a huge triple scoop sundae bowl!! Then the meals; delivered to and with perfection. Both meals were excellent: Chili relleno and Chori pollo. The drinks were well made and delicious. Please do not be put off by (a) 1 star review. There's always ups and downs when a restaurant opens. There certainly were rave reviews by my coworkers who went before me at my nearby workplace and I'm glad we went and followed their recommendations!! This place was awful. First off, it's like walking into a shopping center with how bright the lights are. Then, we were told it'll be about 20 minutes before being seated. People came in after us and got seated before us. So we decided to sit at the bar. It took another 20-30 minutes before we got asked about drinks. Then another 40 minutes before our food came out. I will not return nor recommend this to anyone. No wonder they went out of business in Augusta. read more

This restaurant is fantastic. The staff was all wonderful. The service was prompt and friendly. The margaritas are huge and delicious. My food only took about 10 minutes from the time I ordered until it was on my table. The presentation was very nice and everything was cooked perfectly. It's super colorful and lovely inside with lots of booths and even tables with seating for 10 or more. The music was pleasant and not too loud. My waitress made sure I was never left waiting for anything. She was great. Everyone in there was. I highly recommend this place. read more

Disappointing Experience After a Great First Visit Tonight, Friday, October 24th, at 5:45pm, we arrived at El Tequila. After having such a great first visit earlier this month, we were excited to return and brought friends along to share the experience. Unfortunately, tonight was completely different. After a short wait to be seated, we sat for about 15 minutes before anyone came to take our drink orders. Around 6pm, we finally ordered 2 sodas and 2 Margarita Flights for the ladies, along with our meals. The sodas arrived about 10 minutes later, right before the complimentary chips and salsa. At this point, we had been there for 25 minutes and had only received only 2 sodas. By 6:45pm, our meals arrived, but still no Margarita Flights. Our waitress apologized, saying the bar was busy and that she would check on them. She finally asked if the ladies wanted something else to drink while they waited, nearly an hour after ordering. Our appetizer arrived with the main course instead of before it, and the waitress disappeared again for several minutes. When I finally saw her at the host station, she said the drinks were being made now. Ten minutes later, still nothing. By 7pm, I had to chase her down again and told her to cancel the drinks since we were already well into our meal. Drinks should arrive before food, not after. She returned to apologize again, but her response was full of excuses rather than accountability. She said she would remove the drinks from the bill, making it sound as if she was doing us a favor. I made it clear that this was the appropriate thing to do since we never received them, and that we would not be paying for something we didn't receive. At this point, a proper response would have been for the bartender, manager, or owner to personally apologize and perhaps offer a gesture to make things right. Instead, we got nothing but dismissive excuses. Meanwhile, the bar was clearly functioning fine. Everyone at the bar had drinks, and other tables were being served quickly as I watched. Just not ours. We were embarrassed after recommending El Tequila to our friends, only to have such a poor experience. The food was still delicious, and we understand it was a busy night, but waiting over an hour for drinks that never came is completely unacceptable. Sadly, this visit has left us questioning whether we will return. read more

Have tried a few Mexican restaurants in Maine. The food at best was OK but expensive. Decorations were good but staff was not great. Ordered burritos and enchiladas for the two of us.meats were not spiced well and rather bland. Chips and sauce were good. read more

I'm from Texas, just in town visiting my folks for the Thanksgiving holidays. My parents were really excited to treat me to dinner here. Sadly, it was not a good experience. The restaurant was extremely cold....I dare say NO HEAT!! We warmed our fingers on the plate! The waitress announced that she had an ear infection and proceeded to give horrible service. Drinks were wrong, orders were wrong, waitress forgot to bring more chips and salsa. The food was pretty authentic and tasted good. After a frigid dining experience our horrible waitress finally brought our check and informed us that since we had a party of 7 a 20% AUT-GRAT had already been added to our bill!!! We had a party of 4 on our 1st visit this past Friday night...was impressed with the interior atmosphere! Then we placed our order and it all went downhill...one of us ordered a chicken quesadilla, and received a beef one I ordered a chicken Chimi, it was so salty I couldn't eat it! Food was delivered by kitchen staff so couldn't complain to the waitress....we never saw her again until I asked someone to find her so we could get our bill! When I told her about our complaints she just shrugged it off. So I paid 40 dollars for a meal I didn't eat with a Margarita which was just okay! Also no heat in the building...heating system not working they told us! Probably won't be back! read more
