Chicken fajitas, beans and rice

So good. So good. So good! Margaritas was closed so we searched for other Mexican in the area. This place did not disappoint. It's a small place but really cute. We both had the chicken fajitas. The chicken was deliciously seasoned, the beans and rice were freshly made - not like the canned looking refried beans you get at other places. Also - get the churros for dessert! OMG, we will be back!

Always yummy! Definitely some of the best Mexican food in Lewiston, if not Maine in general from what I've seen. It feels authentic and welcoming while still being a cool spot to take people to.

Man I would give this place 20 stars if I could. My parents are moving to Maine and tasked me to find a Mexican restaurant. I yelped and found El Pocho's and saw the amount of positive reviews and they deserve every star!! The father & daughter were running the place when we arrived. It's a small diner, next to a gas station, and we were immediately greeted warmly by the owner's daughter. Sat us down, took our order, and had a pleasant conversation as we waited for our food. Speaking of food, wow! I ordered the tacos and they were priced well and super generous portions. My mom asked for a to go menu and they ran out, but the daughter just gave my mom a regular menu to take. Super kind! I will look forward to eating here again when I visit my parents!!

This is some of the best Mexican food I've ever had ! I've moved around plenty and spent a few years in California, where there is an abundance of Mexican food. This is easily up there as far as Mexican food goes. This restaurant can be tricky to find if you don't know what you're looking for. It is attached to the mini-mart for the Coast to Coast gas station on the corner. Inside it's relatively small, it can probably house 10 people max. It's equipped with stools on the counter, bar style. It can get busy during peak lunch hours. The food itself is fantastic. They provide a lot with each order too, especially the nachos. Pro tip: check their Facebook page for the daily specials, it's always something different and it will not disappoint.

Disappointed. And I'm no food snob. I went for lunch and ordered the mini chimichangas with rice and beans. The waitress brought chips and salsa. The chips seemed overcooked and tasted that way. The salsa was fresh and chunky but flavorless. The chimichangas were fine but they season the rice with some sweet seasoning...not cinnamon, not cloves, but something...that did not taste at all authentic and for me was unpleasant. There were a lot of diners for lunch on a Tuesday so clearly people really like this place. For me it's a no.

Best Mexican I've had outside California or Washington. By far the best I've had in New England.

The best thing about 2024 is that El Pocho opened a restaurant. When I die, please smother me in the green enchilada sauce.

No idea who's bright idea it was to throw a pool table in the place and jack the prices up…read moretremendously, but I hope you figure out real soon that it's not what the community is looking for. We grew up on a hole in the wall gem with reasonable prices, I was shocked to see that prices went to by almost 5 dollars for the same meal I've been eating for YEARS in the last few months. I didn't even order when I saw the prices. Horrible move.

South of the Border is a hole-in-the-wall type place in Lewiston located across from Busytown Bikes…read more(which was a bakery back in the day). They have approximately seating for 30 or so, but are very popular for take-out. This is a go-to place for my Dad and I tend to tag along. The staff is very friendly and the ambiance is the typical Mexican style with complimenting decor. Food is made fairly fast and the quality of the food is decent. The plain burritos are made with ground meet, somewhat seasoned, the refried beans were as expected and the rice was a bit on the dry side like it had been sitting around. You get plenty of food which is why they are a popular spot. If you are looking to satisfy those Mexican cravings, this is a good spot to hit. I won't criticize it for not being fully authentic, because they don't claim to be. They advertise americanized style Mexican and that is what you get.
