The cafe is a quaint and collectic location that has instruments, posters, and a surf board for decor with hip vibe. Open space with chill lighting, artisan market products for sale (candles, honey sugar scrubs, and hand crafted pottery). The interior is clean and well taken care of. For drinks we ordered the Hot Latte and 'A Love Supreme' smoothie and a turkey panini and a BBQ chicken panini for lunch. The food was fresh and delicious. Such a fun little spot in Lewiston. It's got that great cafe feel but offers more than "just" a cafe with selections of coffee beverages, smoothies, breakfast and lunch options, and a specialization in burritos. Everyone I've had the pleasure of interesting with at this establishment has been kind and helpful. A few of the food items I've tried have lacked slightly in flavor from time to time but when you throw some of their homemade hot sauce on there, it brings it all together. Awesome place! Great selection of drinks (coffee, bottled sodas and tea) and good, fresh food. Super delicious baked goods as well. I ordered the sweet potato burrito-it was seasoned just right and really hit the spot! The dining area is super cozy and intimate feeling but gives a good amount of space between tables so you have room. My first reaction was: "How did I not know about this place?!" Guthries is a vegetarian/vegan friendly breakfast and lunch cafe that also hosts local musicians and has been in Lewiston for over 15 years! We had been car shopping in the L/A area on possibly the hottest, most humid day of the year and decided to stop in for some lunch. I was thrilled to see gazpacho listed as the soup of the day and ordered the "Take 2", gazpacho and a 10" sweet potato burrito. The gazpacho was cool and so refreshing: possibly a watermelon and tomato base with a hint of strawberry and rhubarb. It was the perfect combination of sweetness and a little spice. The sweet potato burrito was warmed on the panini press and had small crunches of bell pepper and was served with homemade salsa, just delicious. We had a couple of chocolate/orange donuts for dessert which were made in the morning: fresh and the ganache was thick and chocolatey, with just a hint of orange flavor. We enjoyed checking out the Woody and Arlo Guthry memorabilia as well as the local art for sale while we waited for our order. Guthries is my go to vegetarian lunch spot across from CMMC in Lewiston. For several years now, the food has been consistently fresh, delicious and healthy. The smoothies are so filling, some really can be considered dessert. Eat in if you have time to relax and soak in the positive music vibes in this cozy eclectic brick walled cafe where folkies Woody and Arlo Guthrie are featured alongside Jazz legend Miles Davis. Take out is popular with hospital staff on their lunch breaks. So glad to know I can count on healthy creative flavor filled menu options right across from CMMC. This hippie styled, vegan inspired restaurant has great food for all dietary preferences. The service was good, friendly with a smile. They even let me sample the soup before committing to a bowl. The soups change regularly, as do some of the specialty drinks. They even have desserts. While the food and drinks were great, the prices weren't. It is hard to agree to pay 15 bucks for a sandwich. They have fresh brewed teas, of their own blend as well as traditional, served hot or cold. I tried the gutheries blend and while it was good with nice flavor combination, I would have preferred a stronger brew. There are lots of coffee drinks, including espresso. There are blended smoothies is delicious flavors such as PB&J or pineapple kale. They have main root sodas and even bottled pepsi. I ordered the bbq chicken Panini, which was wonderful. Tender bbq chicken, shredded and served toasted on wheat bread with melty provolone, tomato and lettuce and served with a pickle. The coconut curry carrot soup with barley was bowl licking good, with a delightful medley of flavors. They served half sandwich of your choice with a bowl of soup. The pulled pork quesadilla was filling and savory with delicious bbq pork. This was served with chips salsa and sour cream. I love this place. Everything (I believe) on their menu can be made gluten free. (Their gluten free bread is amazing!) They offer combos to get 2 of your choice of quesadillas, soups, salads, sandwiches, etc... it's the perfect lunch spot. With that being said, this place gets super busy during the work week around lunch time, so make sure you have longer than 30 minutes to spare. read more

On our way to Quebec via 201, our bellies started growling and we knew it was about time to find a lunch spot. I pulled up my trusty Yelp app, and immediately homed in on Guthrie's. It was dead quiet when we wound our way through downtown Lewiston and similarly quiet when we entered the restaurant. There were two tables of patrons, which initially gave me pause, but I was wooed by the three very welcoming staff members and the decidedly Santa Cruz, CA/college town vibe of the place. Lots of dark wood, local beers, chalkboards advertising their "micro-cinema" Maine-related film series, and the Cure playing on the sound system. My husband ordered the oft-mentioned sweet potato burrito while I opted for the chicken salad sandwich. We split our plates so that we could sample both. His burrito was good, although it suffered from hasty burrito-making as indicated by the clumps of cheese in one bite followed by beans in another and sweet potato in the third bite. The salsa they paired with it was incredibly mild (we're not in Texas anymore!) but bright and fresh-tasting. My chicken salad with cranberries was delicious. It was served on a local bakery's multi-grain bread that was lightly toasted. Yum...I could go for another sammie right about now. If I ever find myself taking the looong way to Quebec City again, I would return to Guthrie's for a healthy meal, fresh ingredients, a cozy, casual vibe, and friendly service. It's a funky kitschy 60s throwback with decoupage-clad picnic tables, Woodstock-worthy wood paneling, a few folk albums and some music kitsch on the walls are all part of its charm. The food is excellent, a mix of mexican, sandwiches, vegetarian and vegan. The shredded pork burrito will go mano-a-mano with the sweet potato burrito. They also have great local brew sodas and beers, including a blueberry soda that was amazing. The service is super friendly, and parking is not too bad outside with street and big lots nearby. One of the Yelp-worthy quirky fun eateries that you Yelpers traveling here and there crave, and a cool place on Fridays I hear for locals, when they have live music. Oh? The story... Not as flavorful as I hoped. Even though the burrito was hefty in size, I just didn't feel like the flavor was anywhere to be found. I added tons of their homemade hot sauce (which was not that hot at all) to try to kick it up a notch. My fiancé said his pulled pork burrito was ok but nothing he would order again. Their salsa unfortunately tasted like watery tomatoes. Very sad since the colorful chips were pretty decent. I was really looking forward to this since I had been told to come here years ago. They only had 2 beers on draft (I believe one was Baxter and the other Bud Light), the red wine was very warm as if it had been sitting near something producing heat. I really want to like this place but it was a bit underwhelming. I should preface by saying that I am familiar with vegan/vegetarian foods having made many in my lifetime and basically raised in a natural food store embracing the farm to table movement. So, when I say that the food leaves something to be desired, it is not because I am unfamiliar with the cuisine. The menu has a little bit of something "mexican" inspired for everyone from sandwiches to burritos, nachos to tacos and quesadillas. However, the food felt like it was lacking in flavor or spice. My husband had the Vegan Grilled Burrito which is an assortment of veggies and fillings and was decent sized. He said it was void of spice (aside from whole raw jalapenos) and there was nothing cohesive bringing everything together. I had the pulled pork quesadilla with sweet potato and there was something odd about the taste. Almost like a canned yam taste... It actually reminded me of packaged BBQ jackfruit but it was hard to over come. Our girls had items from the kids menu: one had the 2 taco dinner and the other PB&J. The tacos looked okay and she seemed happy with them but the sandwich was on what seemed like dry, day-old sour dough with the crust cut off so it was the size of a deck of cards. I would have given more stars because the setting is nice (aside from music that sounds like a wailing funeral procession) with amble seating and beautiful artwork. It is actually like if a Grateful Dead Shop sold burritos. However, I would not classify their staff as welcoming as their sign claims. We walked in and the staff just stared or appeared to avoid interacting with us. We finally had to ask if we had to seat ourselves because we'd never been there. No offering to review their menu or specials and the general attitude was not as bright and cheery as their clothes may suggest. I don't give out five stars undeservedly. If you wanna' earn my praise, then deliver something unique, provide value, and give me multiple reasons for coming back. SDLG's makes the grade on all of these. I discovered Guthrie's by accident--a board I served on as a volunteer ordered food one night from this unique Lewiston eatery. In looking over the menu, I was amazed that a place like this existed in "the dirty Lew." Since then, I've met friends, business colleagues, and others there for coffee, lunch, and occasionally, a beer. Last night, after going to oh-so-ordinary Gritty's for beers after work for a co-worker who is moving on, I asked my wife if she wanted to grab a bite to eat before we headed back to the compound for the evening. I suggested Guthrie's and since she'd never been, and heard me rave about the burritos in the past, she gave it an enthusiastic endorsement. For a Friday night around 7:00, it was not particularly busy. Good for us, but a concern about where Lewiston's restaurant patron's sentiments lie. The food was wonderful, again. My wife had The Bella, an ample panini with spinach, swiss cheese, tomato, portabella mushrooms, roasted red pepper pesto, and a delightful balsamic vinaigrette. I had the sweet potato burrito. If you've never had sweet potato in a burrito, then you'll be blown away with this robust combo of my favorite starch, beans, tomato and cheese. The homemade tortilla chips and delectable salsa are a nice touch. With a couple of beers each and tax, we were just barely over $30 for the two of us. As mentioned in previous reviews, this is a unique establishment for Lewiston. I'm a sucker for exposed brick, and the intimate nature of the space, not to mention co-owner Randy Letourneau's great music selection that's always on the speakers and this becomes a must visit for anyone local, or patrons from away that value locally-owned businesses with a social-conscience that consistently deliver on the goods. I'm issuing a shout out to some of my Portland peeps with a penchant for the parochial to jump in their cars occasionally and leave the peninsula for points north, like She Doesn't Like Guthrie's, particularly on a Friday or Saturday night when Randy brings in another great artist playing folk, jazz, or some kickass rock n' roll. read more

I have been to Guthries many times. It has always been very good, and as a vegan it is one of the few places in the Lewiston area where I feel comfortable eating. I love the atmosphere here. It just feels right for a break from an office type setting to step into for lunch and relax. Prices are very reasonable and the portions are ideal. The menu is fun and has many great options. Best of all, it's healthy eating. If you've had enough of all the grease that permeates a lot of eateries in the area, definitely give Guthries a chance if you haven't yet. read more

This place epitomizes why Yelp is so great. Was on a road trip up through Maine and we were dying of hunger, we wanted to grab something quick before continuing on north. Two problems: 1) It was the night before Thanksgiving 2) A snowstorm had just come thru during the day and there was tons of snow on the ground. Most places were closed up for the night, but we gave Guthries a call and they were still open. The place was completely empty when we got there, save the bartender and a guy in the kitchen. We were a little wary at first, but then I heard the old Bowie "Life on Mars?" track and I knew we were in a good spot. It was confirmed when the menu had an item named after a Pixies track. Ummmmmmmm, AWESOME! We sat at the bar and ordered two of their burritos -- one sweet potato and one pulled pork, both were delicious. I *highly* recommend grabbing the green sauce from the shelf at the back of the restaurant. They make it themselves and it gives the burritos the perfect kick. I just wish we could've been there when the place was hopping and able to see some live music to boot. That would've made it perfect. I'll keep it short - this is the finest place to eat in the Twin Cities. Great, intimate atmosphere. Very good selection of local beers. There are some great options of food and it is DELICIOUS. Best of all it's owned by an awesome couple from Lewiston who are, along with everyone else who works there, incredibly friendly. In general this is exactly the kind of place Lewistonians should be supporting. If you are looking for vegetarian options in town, this is the place to go. I grew up here, lived here for 17 years of my life, and was bored and dispondent for almost all of those 17 years. When I moved away, I was happy to be away from the dirty Lew, but with places like Guthrie's popping up, well, vague (and fleeting) thoughts about returning home more often pop into my head. Guthrie's has a great atmosphere, relaxed, but a bit classier than anything else in Lewiston (outside of the new five star restaurants) - exposed brick interior with a (very) small bar and nice, casual seating. They also have a bin with free stickers and pins, of which I gladly partook. I mostly hung out outside, on the (very) small sidewalk patio. The thing I wish for Guthrie's is a larger patio and a larger bar - but otherwise, I have no no no complaints. How can you possibly complain when your beer costs FIFTY CENTS?! The food that I saw people eating looked excellent, but I didn't actually try anything. One of my friends had the fiesta bowl (basically, a burrito without a tortilla), and another had a quesadilla - everything looked fresh and yummy. Apparently, also, Guthrie's is one of the only restaurants in Maine to have a neutral carbon footprint - meaning they actually care about the environmental sustainability of the food and the establishment. Yup, it;s good! The Sweet Potato Burrito is realllllly good. Fresh, complex flavors, filling, but more of a wrap than burrito. The salsa tastes like a fresh tomtao salsa with a strong tomato flavor with minimal seasoning. While I prefer a more seasoned salsa, it is light and refreshing. I'm definitely hooked and have been supplying my coworkes with lunch from "......Guthries" for a few weeks now. A nice surprise in this city. read more

My boyfriend and I discovered this place completely on accident. We're not very familiar with Lewiston and were driving around the downtown area one early evening looking for someplace to eat. The boyfriend had mentioned earlier that he was in the mood for some kind of Mexican food... and when we turned onto a side street to turn around or something, I noticed a sign on the side of a building saying they had burritos and quesadillas. So we decided to chance it, and we're glad we did! Mind, I've only had the slow cooked pulled pork quesadilla, but I was INCREDIBLY impressed with it. Probably the best quesadilla I've ever had. Even writing about it now makes me want to go back and get one, lol. Aside from the burritos and quesadillas, they also have paninis and some snacky kind of stuff (i.e. tortilla chips and salsa or hummus). There is a variety of unique stuff they put in the burritos and quesadillas--I'm really curious about the sweet potato ones!--and the menu is very vegetarian friendly. Live music on weekend nights... there is also alcohol (beer and wine) available, but I'm not educated enough on the subject to speak on the variety/quality of such. ;) The most notable to me is that Thursdays are $.50 PBR can nights if you bring along a can koozie.
