What a sweet place! Someone mentioned clean in a review here and that's exactly what my husband said when we sat down. The service is wonderful, so fine to be treated with love. As you can see from the photo, the sausage gravy is humongous! and tasty too. But wait... who has these prices any more? Over in Rockland we have to pay $18 if we want sausage gravy and here it's less than half that AND you get two eggs and choice of sausage or bacon with it. Wonderful find. It was a friendly place for lunch with a dear friend, unfortunately I didn't get pictures, we were busy catching up! Service was quick and friendly and the food was diner food +. In short, pretty darn good experience and I'll go back and ge pics next time! I had a very delicious steak sub - perfectly done with all the grease, veggies, cheese. I didn't do the fries in an attempt to not eat too much (see contents of the steak sub) and the chips were a good alternative. read more

When you step into Dave's you step into the 1950's working-class eatery where the staff all know you, the local newspaper is on the counter, and the coffee is hot and strong. For as long as I can remember, Dave's Diner has served up the classics that keep 'em coming back for more. Breakfast is served all day: eggs, bacon, omelets, home fries, sausage, bagels, pastries, you name it - they have it. You won't need to ask what the soup of the day is, and you'll hear about the daily specials right when you sit down. The specials change with the season. When I went today it was chili with cornbread and Shepherd's pie. And, of course, there are the usual diner champs. Fresh cooked burgers and dogs, baked haddock, prime rib, chowder, turkey dinner, and your food is always cooked the way grandma made it. With love and generous portions. Talk about dessert! Today there was chocolate cream pie, pumpkin pie, coconut, pie, apple pie, and strawberry-rhubarb (it's a Mainah thing). There is definitely some magic in that nostalgic diner vibe. From the classic eat-at counter with the red chrome stools, where the coffee machine and cups stare back at you. I stopped in for breakfast today for the first time in 15 years. And *snap* just like that I was crammed into that red leather corner table - you know the one- that big round booth your whole family hopes is available cause it's prime rib night! At the diner the servers are locals, they are friendly, and they are fast. The owner is usually there taking orders, keeping the place clean, greeting the regulars and the non-regulars alike. The building has decent parking, is handicap accessible, and very clean. Dave's Diner is a huge part of the Gardiner community. Actually, this is really good! My dad used to work with the new owner and I've met his kids and wife, and they are all very nice! The employees are great too. The only thing is, the food takes forever to come out, but it's worth it once it does. For any diner lovers, this one is one that I will always recommend for a diner ambiance. read more

We ordered the homemade quiche and shaved steak Benedict both were showstoppers! Followed up with a delicious sampling of made with love desserts, grape nut pudding, lemon meringue pie and super light coconut cream!! The grape nut pudding brought me back to my childhood. As a new resident to west gardiner I've been checking out local spots to dine. A friend was coming to meet me for breakfast and we decided on this place. We both enjoy the cozy old fashioned diner feels. Daves is it! Tables were all full so we sat at the counter. Prompt service. Good coffee and an abundance of choices on the menu. I'm a French toast fan and there are TWO options! One being Texas toast. Go big or go home eh? I got that with a side of bacon. That would be my only gripe about places these days and I get cost of living, but you used to get a choice of sausage or bacon, now it's a side option with added cost. But bacon goes with everything and is necessary in my opinion That being said, I was quite happy with it. Fluffy insides, crisp outside edges and bacon was extra crispy. Never had to ask to have my coffee topped off. Never felt like I was being rushed out to "turn tables" so this is a place I'll add to my regular spot list. This great diner has a lot of seating and was surprisingly busy. It's worth visiting just to smell the French fry grease. The pancakes are seriously generous. If you are looking for fluffy this isn't it. These are like the pancakes you eat before a hard day of logging. The service is friendly and fast. You won't break the bank eating here either. After being up all night smelt fishing, we needed coffee and breakfast. We passed Dave's Diner on our way home. The parking lot was nearly full so we figured that was a good sign. Several.patrons inside seems to he regulars as the waitstaff greeted them by name. Typical diner - with booths, tables and a counter to sit at, nothing fancy. Simple menu with the basic fare for breakfast; the prices are very reasonable! I ordered the corned beef has& with 2 eggs and toast ($5.99) and the server did say it was canned hash FYI. My partner got a special - 2 eggs, 2 sausages and 2 biscuits with gravy and it was a huge portion, esp for the price ($7). The biscuits were a bit dry but the gravy was good. We made a quick stop for breakfast. They serve breakfast all day. I was not feeling well so I simply ordered scrambled eggs and a grilled English Muffin. The grilled muffins was so crispy and delicious, topped with butter. I could have eaten at least two more! Stop in to Dave's for all-day breakfast and non-stop coffee refills. Our meal cost a whopping $10!!! Can't beat that! I did notice they serve Liver and Onions, just in case that is your style. This is a true diner, with diner food. Nothing fancy. The parking lot was full this Saturday morning, which is always a good sign. It was a little chilly and the bathroom felt like the air conditioner was on, so bring warm clothes! Stopped here for dinner on our way back from visiting Bangor and Augusta. They only open for dinner on Fridays and Saturdays. I like to visit diners while visiting new cities. All of the servers here at Dave's were very welcoming, friendly and attentive! My husband and I ordered a cup of fish chowder, Grilled Haddock and Country Fried Steak. The Haddock and Country Fried Steak were just ok. The soup lacked taste with a watery consistency. However, their cole slaw was tasty. I'll rate this diner with 3 stars for the staff! We decided to stop for a lunch break at Dave's Diner in Gardiner, which is a roadside breakfast and lunch restaurant located south of town on US 201. It was around 1:15PM and we figured we had to get something to eat since we knew that most of mom & pop diners in New England close up at 1PM or 2PM. This is an old school style roadside diner (established 1-29-2005) which has counter stool seating in the front and a dining room with booths and tables. We sat ourselves and grabbed menus to look at. The place serves up breakfast (all day) and lunch until 2PM and open for dinner on Friday evenings for prime rib & fresh haddock. The menu offerings consist of the typical American diner fare including eggs, omelets, pancakes, French toast, Belgiam waffles, homemade sausage gravy, sandwiches, clubs, wraps, soup, salads, comfort entrees (liver & onions, meatloaf, country fried steak, fried shrimp, fried haddock, crab cakes, chicken tenders, spaghetti), and desserts (puddings, pies, cake, ice cream). The prices here are very reasonable, most plates & entrees $4.29-$7.49. For lunch, I ordered the Country Fried Steak ($7.29) served with choice of potato, vegetable, & bread. The Country Fried Steak had a thick crispy breading with soft chopped steak covered in a savory sausage cream gravy. The Sweet Potato Fries were hot & crispy and not greasy. The side of Cole Slaw was crunchy and creamy with shredded cabbage, red cabbage, and carrots. The soft chewy dinner roll with butter was warm. My friend ordered a Hot Dog ($1.99) with chips & dill pickle spear and a Coffee ($1.15). The New England style hot dog bun and frank were both grilled nicely and the side of ruffled potato chips was standard. As for the service, it took while to be waited on since the dining room was clearing out as we arrived, but things were good once we ordered our food. The check total for lunch for two came out to under $12 with tax and before tip. Overall, the food was not fancy, but tasted very good and the price was right. read more

Actually glad I had to wait as long as I did for my food.... I probably would not have eaten if I wasn't so hungry. Sausage was the pre cooked frozen stuff. A great littler diner! When we travel, we always try to find the 'local' places, Dave's was it! The ladies working were very sweet and the service was great. We had the blueberry pancakes, and they did not disappoint. They are not thin and fluffy, but more of a plate sized cake that will fill you up! The burger and omelet we ordered were really good too. If you like diner food try Dave's. They've been around probably since the 50s or 60s. Their food will surely fill your belly. Is the food amazing? No, not really. Dave's prices are fair and reasonable. They're about as "American" as it gets. Decent breakfast, friendly service and your coffee cup refilled with a smile. If you want a diner that's a few steps up go to the A-1 right down the road otherwise give Dave's a try and meet some interesting local folk. read more

Nice little diner with a homey, country feel. I got one of the breakfast specials which was scrambled eggs with peppers, onions and ham that came with corned beef hash and toast. The eggs were good however the hash definitely came from a can. Ugh, nothing worse than canned hash. Hubby got a ham and cheese omelette which was a little too runny for his taste. The place was clean enough and has plenty of parking. Would maybe try again for lunch possibly. Or breakfast for simple eggs and bacon. read more

We stopped on our way up from Boston to Acadia for a quick lunch. We pulled up and the sign said they were closed since it was 2:05pm and they close at 2pm. It was raining pretty hard so the hostess came out and told us they could still serve us. The service was fantastic, very personal and very helpful. The variety was awesome and breakfast at 2pm was really great. I had one of the specials with eggs, corn beef hash, toast and it was very good. The coffee was classic diner coffee as well, enjoyable. My wife got the biscuit and gravy and it was huge! She shared some of it with me and it was great. Total with two coffees was $15. It was a great experience and I'd love to go back if we are ever in the area again. read more

Have been on the road for over 30 days through 7 States and 5 Provinces and this has by far been one of the best breakfast by far and we have eaten in some pretty swanky places. Went here with my wife, 2 sisters and my mother just after 10 am. I ordered a club sandwich and my wife and mother ordered 2 eggs with bacon and toast and sisters ordered a Western skillet and French Toast. I was a look little shocked when the server cleared the table just before we sat down and never bothered to dry the table after cleaning it with a wet towel. The server than took our drink orders and asked if we wanted menus, when we told her we would like menus, they only had 4 so we had to share one. We waited an hour for our food and watched tables who arrived after us get their food one by one. We finally got our food and it was good, nothing special, but good nonetheless. For 5 easy and simple orders to take an hour at a diner seems way too long to wait. The server brought over 2 plates at a time and when my sister asked for syrup to go with her French Toast, we watched our server search surrounding empty tables until she finally walked over to the kitchen to grab syrup, which one would think that would of come out prior when a customer orders something such as French Toast, pancakes or waffles. Regaurdless, she seemed annoyed by this. When we asked for our check the server brought it over and mumbled something about if we need boxes to let her know and walked off. No "thanks for coming in today" "sorry about the wait on your food" or "have a nice day". The air conditioning was not on (or working) and it was sweltering hot inside the restaurant. They had 2 fans going by the main enterence; however, one was under a section of the tile ceiling that was damaged and missing which exposed the fiberglass installation. I was glad I was not sitting directly in front of the fan as I would imagine it would be pulling micro fibers from the fiberglass installation. All in all, I will never go back to this restaurant which is disappointing as my first job was as a cook here (previous owners/restaurant). As mentioned the food was satisfactory; however, that was some of the worst service I have ever seen on top of the incredibly long wait for our food. read more

Normally I love breakfast here..went last weekend and they charged me for a biscuit rather than an English muffin and then they burned the crap out of it. The service was nice, the place is cute and clean but the food was less than satisfactory. They claim 'homemade' food but my husband's corned beef hash was from a can, the sausages and hashbrowns were from frozen stock. Sometimes it's the little things for me, too - my child's eggs were sitting in a pool of grease, no real milk for coffee or sugar in the raw, the hot sauce was a big shady non descript bottle. We were starving so we ate it but I don't see much point in going back. It's a supercute place and inexpensive but didn't thrill us in any way. read more
