Was looking for a place for breakfast with quick off and on to Route 95! Wasn't in the mood for fast food or chain food so we happened in to this cute little restaurant where the locals eat! Wonderful coffee, homemade bread ( I had cinnamon raisin) delicious hash and all the breakfast standards prepared perfectly! Had a delicious breakfast and got right back on 95 to continue our journey!
What a great place to have breakfast! We were staying nearby in Lake Cobossee. I'm so happy we didn't stay at a Hilton or Hyatt with breakfast included. I would've never found this place. If it wasn't for the lodge that only had coffee in the morning. Someone recommended a pancake place but when we got there, the parking lot was jampacked full and I said you know what I don't do personal recommendations. I do yelp and I found this place within minutes. It was a place that locals go to. I loved it. I'm going back through this summer. The pancakes were ginormous and outrageously delicious! The ball I had was fabulous and stuck with me the whole day it had hash brown potatoes, scrambled eggs, bacon, cheese, and sautéed green peppers and onions. The place was busy so I my expectations were low, but the coffee refills kept coming and they were friendly. What more could you ask for?
Fast service, Reasonable prices and good food; a winning combination for any restaurant. Small storefront on Water Street that could be hard to find, the sign above says Hersey's Shoe Store look for the black awning outside to find your way. Limited hours and on street parking so come early.
Great service, the food was classic Diner food exactly what we were looking for g for. Ambiance was nice, lists of locals on a Sunday morning. Pancakes were Diner fluffy and the eggs were cooks exactly how we asked. I would highly recommend if you're in the mood for a Diner breakfast.
Stopped in this morning for breakfast and we are very happy we did! This is a charming, comfortable and welcoming restaurant. We arrived about 8:30 am on a Saturday and were seated immediately. As an obvious first timer I did not feel out of place. They have an extensive breakfast menu of breakfast staples, lots of combinations, as well as board of specials. My husband had a sausage and cheddar cheese omelette which came with toast and I had the ham and cheddar quiche special which comes with either home fries or fruit. I chose the fruit which was watermelon and cantaloupe that had been cubed. Great choice! The fruit was ripe and soo good. The quiche was delicious and had a generous amount of ham. The crust was flaky and buttery. My husband's omelette was filled with sausage and cheese. The rye toast he ordered was thick sliced, buttered and perfectly toasted. Turns out ALL of their breads except the "Canadian white" are homemade. Don't skip the toast. We also added a single pancake which was the size of a dinner plate, light and fluffy. Note: they do offer real maple syrup for an upcharge. Natasha was our server. She was warm, friendly and attentive. Breakfast was a total win! We were so busy devouring our food I forgot to take pictures! Oops
Downtown Diner is a hidden gem and a local fave! I'm a regular here and have not had a bad meal yet. It's your standard diner fare, cooked in the clean open kitchen. If you sit at the counter you can watch the chef in action (and also ogle the dessert on display). The diner offers the comforting, stick-to-your-ribs kinda grub, it's the stuff your grandma made. The staff and chef have been in the industry for a long time, they know what they're doing. Famous for their breakfast- you can get eggs and sides any way you like. My go-to is poached egg over corned beef hash (from a can - just the way I like it!) Want home fries? Ask for a little on the side cause breakfast is served all day. There are endless combos of omelets, pancakes, sandwiches, eggs, wraps, burgers, and homemade pies for dessert. Check out the specials board for what's hot that day. Corn chowder on a cold snowy day always warms me up! And a crab roll with fries always hits the spot. Coffee is black and strong, they have a variety of soda, tea, and juice. Because it's located in Maine's Capital City you might bump into members of the State House having a working lunch or staff from the state health department grabbing take-out. You can sit anywhere you like, I suggest pulling up a chair by the window and watch the world go by as you enjoy the nostalgia of a 1940's diner experience. Parking is on the street both in front of and behind the building. There are entrances at the back (stairs) and ADA accessible entrance on the street. Don't be fooled by the mosaic sign above the door that says "Hersey Shoe" - the downtown alliance did a big restoration on the buildings and the owners decided to keep the mosaic tiled sign as a nod to the building's past and charm. The downtown area is a thriving historic district if you're in the area stroll the history in the streets display, look at Fort Knox across the river, you might even see a sturgeon jump in the Kennebec. Check out the Downtown Diner - you won't leave hungry.
Two words: simple, good. Had breakfast here. It was simple and good. The service was good. Super nice people. Would definitely eat here if we're traveling in this area again.
This place was worth finding! We don't often go to Augusta for breakfast, and I wanted to try something different. It is hard to see it driving down Water Street, especially with the awning and the name of a shoe store over the door. We went down the back street and finally found it! The wait staff were all very nice and attentive, despite being busy and apparently understaffed. My Steak Omelet was delicious, and my husband enjoyed his Breakfast Bowl. Prices were average for these days. We will make a point to go back!
I truly love this restaurant! The staff is so amazing! I always feel welcome. The omelette are full with delicious veggies and rich cheese. There breads and muffins are homemade. I love when I order crispy bacon and it's just perfect! Great coffee in big white mugs.
This place was such a surprise! I hear diner, I think greasy spoon type vibes. This was so chic and clean.! Mom and I both wanted breakfast for lunch, and they do it here. So French toast was the choice, with PERFECT thick cut bacon that had the richest flavor. Yummmmm. Our waitress was as sweet as pie (which they don't have here lol) read more

Classic diner with breakfasts and lunch items, I landed here at just after 11:00 AM and while they were still serving breakfast, I decided that it was time for lunch. My BLT club was assembled and plated in the traditional manner. Quartered diagonally with toothpicks, fries piled in the center. The sandwich was a proper triple decker with a good portion of bacon, lettuce and tomato. Light on the mayo, though it was white bread rather than the rye I ordered. Not a complaint as it was still quite good. A squeezie bottle of ketchup for the fries and I was good to go. Though I think the ketchup might have been Hunts rather than Heinz as it was a little sweet. Service was good, the young lady who took care of me kept coffee and water filled. I was at a table that had an exposed power outlet, which was helpful. Street parking or some public lots nearby. [Review 10017 overall, round number 1600 of 2018.] read more

Stopped here for breakfast. A great restaurant in a historic part of downtown. It was originally a shoe store (according to old signage on building). The staff is very friendly and attentive. The menu is traditional diner type offerings for breakfast. We ordered the steak and eggs and the breakfast burrito. Both were very tasty. The breakfast burrito was actually amazing. The veggies in it were fresh and the eggs just scrambled. Many times I don't order this item at other places because it seems as if they throw salsa over precooked eggs and wrap it in a burrito. Not here! It was just like home-that is if I actually would cook one! Lol. Reasonable prices too. Would love to go back and try the lunch menu if I'm in the area again. read more

Awesome breakfast food with awesome service. Our waitress was super kind and kept up with filling our coffees and hot tea. We started with a warm homemade cinnamon roll. It was to die for. I had the waffle platter but after seeing the homemade bread, I def should have went with the French toast! My breakfast was still very good. read more

This place was recommended to us by a local when we were looking for breakfast in town that wasn't Denny's or McDonalds. She said she always send people here. Glad she sent us that way! It's located in the downtown river front area. Its basic diner breakfast food cooked a little bit better, but not in a diner atmosphere. The service was extremely quick and super friendly. The lady we had most have been hopped up on some speed or she's just amazing that she can move that fast and still have a smile on her face. And they were packed when we arrived. Our food was satisfying and tasty. The coffee was great as well. I wouldn't hesitate to refer someone here either. Certainly a go to in this town! read more
Popped in on a late morning weekday, and grabbed a seat at the counter. Service was prompt and warm and I quickly noticed the menu offered all the breakfast staples one would want. I felt a little crazy and asked to have overeasy eggs on top of my biscuits then covered with sausage gravy add side of bacon and home fries. Not only did they accommodate my request, it was delicious and more than I expected! Definitely worth a trip! read more
Sundays mean brunch time! This little gem can be found on water street. They are known as the restaurant with two front doors. It was not exceptional busy when we arrived. We seated ourselves and our waiter stopped by right away. On Sundays they only serve breakfast so keep that in mind. I had the Maine breakfast which consisted of two eggs, three kinks of sausage and two very large pancakes. Can't go wrong with good old fashion buttermilk pancakes; definitely hit the spot. Had enough for breakfast the next day. All this for less than $9!!!!! My kind of deal The steak and cheese omelette was good too just need some siracha and it was perfect! Overall good place for home cooked meal. If you are ever in Augusta, you need to stop by. read more

I always order Eggs Florentine- it's not on the menu but they make it anyways! service is A+++! Everyone is so friendly every time I go! highly recommend!!! read more
