What a great place to have breakfast! We were staying nearby in Lake Cobossee. I'm so happy we didn't stay at a Hilton or Hyatt with breakfast included. I would've never found this place. If it wasn't for the lodge that only had coffee in the morning. Someone recommended a pancake place but when we got there, the parking lot was jampacked full and I said you know what I don't do personal recommendations. I do yelp and I found this place within minutes. It was a place that locals go to. I loved it. I'm going back through this summer. The pancakes were ginormous and outrageously delicious! The ball I had was fabulous and stuck with me the whole day it had hash brown potatoes, scrambled eggs, bacon, cheese, and sautéed green peppers and onions. Stopped in this morning for breakfast and we are very happy we did! This is a charming, comfortable and welcoming restaurant. We arrived about 8:30 am on a Saturday and were seated immediately. As an obvious first timer I did not feel out of place. They have an extensive breakfast menu of breakfast staples, lots of combinations, as well as board of specials. My husband had a sausage and cheddar cheese omelette which came with toast and I had the ham and cheddar quiche special which comes with either home fries or fruit. I chose the fruit which was watermelon and cantaloupe that had been cubed. Great choice! The fruit was ripe and soo good. The quiche was delicious and had a generous amount of ham. The crust was flaky and buttery. My husband's omelette was filled with sausage and cheese. The rye toast he ordered was thick sliced, buttered and perfectly toasted. Turns out ALL of their breads except the "Canadian white" are homemade. Don't skip the toast. We also added a single pancake which was the size of a dinner plate, light and fluffy. Don't be fooled by the mosaic sign above the door that says "Hersey Shoe" - the downtown alliance did a big restoration on the buildings and the owners decided to keep the mosaic tiled sign as a nod to the building's past and charm. It is hard to see it driving down Water Street, especially with the awning and the name of a shoe store over the door. We went down the back street and finally found it! The sandwich was a proper triple decker with a good portion of bacon, lettuce and tomato. Light on the mayo, though it was white bread rather than the rye I ordered. Not a complaint as it was still quite good. A squeezie bottle of ketchup for the fries and I was good to go. Though I think the ketchup might have been Hunts rather than Heinz as it was a little sweet. Service was good, the young lady who took care of me kept coffee and water filled. Horrible food at best. Prices are high and they can't seem to cook home fries properly. We've been here about 5 times and today was probably the last. The home fries are practically raw inside with no seasoning and they charge extra to add them to egg items. The single pancake was overpriced and terrible. we barely ate it. Stopped here for breakfast. A great restaurant in a historic part of downtown. It was originally a shoe store (according to old signage on building). The staff is very friendly and attentive. The menu is traditional diner type offerings for breakfast. We ordered the steak and eggs and the breakfast burrito. Both were very tasty. The breakfast burrito was actually amazing. The veggies in it were fresh and the eggs just scrambled. Many times I don't order this item at other places because it seems as if they throw salsa over precooked eggs and wrap it in a burrito. Sundays mean brunch time! This little gem can be found on water street. They are known as the restaurant with two front doors. It was not exceptional busy when we arrived. We seated ourselves and our waiter stopped by right away. On Sundays they only serve breakfast so keep that in mind. I had the Maine breakfast which consisted of two eggs, three kinks of sausage and two very large pancakes. Can't go wrong with good old fashion buttermilk pancakes; definitely hit the spot. We went to auto up the street 1st before heading over to True North tattoo. We were so overwhelmingly disappointed with our original food that I came here while my sister was getting a tattoo done. We were looking for a breakfast/brunch stop on our way back from Acadia to NH. This place had great reviews and did not disappoint when we got there. The service was great. When I was undecided on my meal the waitress was so crazy helpful. Me: "Hmm, do I want sausage or bacon?" Her: "How about you do two strips of both." Me: "What do you recommend, the blueberry pancakes or the chocolate chip?" Her: "Why not mix them together." Yup, I'll do exactly that.
