Great place. Food. Service. Vibe. Menu. Drinks. Definitely going back next time in town.

I had no idea what to expect from a restaurant called state lunch in the middle of Augusta, Maine. But I can tell you I was incredibly pleased. Bowl of shrimp ramen I had was absolutely fabulous. It had a nice kick to it and it was just delicious all around. I forget what I had to drink but it was a local IPA that was also terrific. It's not a place I will be able to go back to because it's far from home and this was a business trip, but for anyone else who wanders into town looking for a good meal, put this on your list.

Ive never been to Augusta but I quickly found out there arent that many great food options. Fortunately state lunch can go toe to toe with big city restaurants. Theyve got a great cocktail program, a diverse and well executed menu and vibes. Everything I ate was delicious. Burger slapped, bao bun was delicious, cocktails were top notch. I almost bought a state lunch sweater lol.

Service was great! Ambiance was good, the flamingo bathroom was my go to. Food was delicious as well as the drinks.

State Lunch - Augusta, ME * Globally Inspired Gastropub I visited State Lunch for dinner and was blown away by the creativity and depth of flavor. The meal spanned a range of styles--from ramen to steak to comfort classics--with standout results. Shio Pork Ramen A beautifully rich broth topped with house‑made ramen noodles, tender pork‑belly chashu, beansprouts, bamboo, sesame, nori, scallions, and a perfectly half‑cooked egg--each element well balanced and satisfying . Appetizers & Salad The Buffalo Cauliflower delivered spicy, crispy bites full of tangy punch. The House French Fries, dressed with garlic, parmesan, and parsley, were addictive . The Panzanella Salad with chicken added a vibrant, refreshing counterpoint--bright flavors, crisp vegetables, and juicy chicken pieces made it a standout shareable. Mains The Porcini‑Rubbed Ribeye stood out: deeply savory, earthy crust, and cooked just right--juicy and tender. The Pork & Beef Bolognese was rich and comforting, coated in a luscious, slow‑cooked sauce over pasta, deeply satisfying. Desserts Finishing with both chocolate cake and carrot cake was the perfect finale. The chocolate cake was decadent, moist, and deeply chocolatey; the carrot cake--spiced just right with cream‑cheese frosting--felt homemade and comforting. Service & Atmosphere The ambience has a hip, industrial‑rustic charm--modern, cozy, and unpretentious. Service was attentive and helpful, allowing us to enjoy a relaxed dinner while sampling many menu highlights . Final Thoughts State Lunch impressed with bold, globally‑inspired dishes--even within a small Maine city setting. Every bite showcased creativity and care, from ramen to ribs to dessert. Great for adventurous diners and foodies looking for big flavors without pretension. Highly recommended!

This place is so fun!! I'm from the area but had never been here before until recently while on a trip back home to visit family. The vibe of the place is super cool - low light and comfortable seating. The service was pretty quick, considering how busy the place was when we were there. I tried the Girls Girls Girls cocktail. I really enjoyed it. I thought it was super refreshing and sweet - two things I really like in a drink. We also ordered the Kung Pao Brussel Sprouts and the House French Fries. These were the perfect snack to have with our drinks! I will definitely be back next time I'm in town.

Specialty drinks of frozen mango margs, wine, beer, everything for the family! We got ramen bowls, grilled cheeses for the kids, even Italian options because the chef used to work at Primo! This is truly a fusion menu that caters to every appetite and does it WELL. Always love coming here with the family! Fun restaurant and the server was truly impeccable with her positive attitude and fun demeanor.

Everyone is always friendly and helpful. It's a small space with enough tables to rotate a dinner rush. We've never had to wait to be seated even though they're always full when we visit. One night I ordered an unexpected dinner special with chicken, mashed sweet potatoes and some sort of Au Jus sauce. It was hands down one of the best meals I've ever had - I could have licked the plate without shame. My husband has always loved his plates. Be aware: the menu on their website and their FB post may not be current.

Very good food! I don't remember what I had, a noodle dish I think and an appetizer, it was all good.

Lunch food was tasty! But the atmosphere inside was quite dark, literally. Lighting could be improved.

We were seated promptly and our drink orders went right in while we looked at the menu. I had never been here before, we asked what the server recommends. She was spot on. We started with a round of pulled pork nachos for the table. I went with shrimp tacos (aioli on the side as I was worried about spice level). Others at the table had the Reuben, chicken tacos, and house chili. Our drinks came out fast, the food was not far behind, our eyes were met with generous portions nicely garnished. The pulled pork nachos were exactly what we expected southerwestern-y cumin-y deliciousness assisted by sour cream, and fresh salsa goodness everything was perfectly seasoned. My shrimp tacos came with lime, avocado, and purple cabbage with spicy aioli on the side. The meaty shrimp with the crisp cabbage were all mellowed together by the creamy avocado. I would eat them for days. Everyone in my party cleaned their plates! The atmosphere is country-chic. There is a saloon decor vibe but it's also hipster steam punk meets old west. The main dining area is clean, spacious and was decorated for the holiday. By the time we left the dining room was a little over half capacity with folks peppered around the bar. It wasn't too noisy, there is country music in the background, but it was fine for conversation. The overall vibe is fun, light, and hospitable, plus there was a pinch of yule-time joy in the air. There is a front and rear entrance, parking is on the street. Around the back of downtown are assorted free parking lots there is also a free parking garage nearby as well, so parking is not a problem. Downtown Augusta is always dolled up this time of year with twinkling lights, snowmen, and such. I recommend The Whiskey Kitchen. Whether you need a space for a working lunch - there is Wi-Fi- looking for a special gathering for an occasion make The Whiskey Kitchen your destination!

I would love to know where they get the decor for this place. I'd imagine a lot of flea markets (fabulous ones)? It's hard to pick my favorite decor item because there are so many, but it's somewhere between the chairs shaped like hands and the giant silver octopus tentacle under the T.V. Ooo and the corner with all the clowns! Drinks are strong and cheap. The bartenders are friendly. There's a patio, but it's a bit small. There are plenty of comfy chairs/couches. They have live music pretty often, so if that's your thing, you'll be happy there on weekend nights. The only thing is the space is kind of small for live music, so it can get really loud. This is an excellent chill option if you're in Hallowell and want to skip bars that tend to get a bit fratty like The Quarry Taproom. Highly recommend!

I was a little chilly by the end of my meal, with goosebumps. But no complaints, like I said, it was muggy outside. I'll take the cool when I can get it! The waitress staff were BUSY today! Carefully marching around platters of many drinks in glasses, navigating foot traffic, small children nearly feral, some heavy doors, and a flight of stairs to the various levels of patio. Kudos to your athleticism for that accomplishment! Goodness! I helped the door open for one young lady that was sweating by bullets carrying about nineteen cold beers on one hand. Food was STELLAR! I had the "Ultimate Grilled Cheese" which was a trio of tasty melted gooey cheeses with applewood smoked bacon thick cut, a tomato pesto on garlic Parmesan crusted Naan bread. Served with a side of salt and vinegar fries. YUMMMMY!
