The Whiskey Kitchen in Augusta ME checks all my boxes! I work down the street from here so my team chose it for our office Holiday Party. The wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable. We were seated promptly and our drink orders went right in while we looked at the menu. I had never been here before, we asked what the server recommends. She was spot on. We started with a round of pulled pork nachos for the table. I went with shrimp tacos (aioli on the side as I was worried about spice level). Others at the table had the Reuben, chicken tacos, and house chili. Our drinks came out fast, the food was not far behind, our eyes were met with generous portions nicely garnished. The pulled pork nachos were exactly what we expected southerwestern-y cumin-y deliciousness assisted by sour cream, and fresh salsa goodness everything was perfectly seasoned. My shrimp tacos came with lime, avocado, and purple cabbage with spicy aioli on the side. The meaty shrimp with the crisp cabbage were all mellowed together by the creamy avocado. I would eat them for days. Everyone in my party cleaned their plates! The atmosphere is country-chic. There is a saloon decor vibe but it's also hipster steam punk meets old west. The main dining area is clean, spacious and was decorated for the holiday. By the time we left the dining room was a little over half capacity with folks peppered around the bar. It wasn't too noisy, there is country music in the background, but it was fine for conversation. The overall vibe is fun, light, and hospitable, plus there was a pinch of yule-time joy in the air. There is a front and rear entrance, parking is on the street. Around the back of downtown are assorted free parking lots there is also a free parking garage nearby as well, so parking is not a problem. Downtown Augusta is always dolled up this time of year with twinkling lights, snowmen, and such. I recommend The Whiskey Kitchen. Neat place in Downtown Augusta. Our waitress seemed more interested in hanging out with the girls (also only other customers) that were sitting at the bar, then serving us. We ordered a Mediterranean pasta, and chicken Buffalo Mac and cheese, which were both berry good. I enjoyed a local draft IPA, and my fiancée had a flight of margaritas. Due to the poor customer service we both would have to think hard about returning anytime soon. read more

We were in town for a softball tourney and stopped in for some lunch. It was easy to locate and we scored free street parking right outside of the restaurant. The sidewalk area had a few tables set up for outdoor dining, with saddles helping to mark off the area. We took the opportunity to have a fun photo shoot with those and then entered. The inside vibe matched with the outdoor saddles, kind of a western saloon. Loved it! We were told to sit wherever we'd like and pulled up a 4-top. Our waitress (who I think was also the bartender) was upbeat, personable and funny. My six year old son always has offbeat things come out of his mouth and she handled him like a champ. The Baja chicken sandwich was good and I loved the side options. For an extra $4, the Mac n cheese was well worth it. Neither my daughter or I (who ordered the exact same thing) were able to finish everything. The kids noodles and garlic bread was also a decent portion size. Their kids menu had a range of choices, which can be tough to find at non-chain establishments. We had a deliciously filling lunch and would be happy to return again when in the area. read more

My husband has been wanting to try. The staff was VERY friendly and helpful. I had the turkey and Swiss grilled cheese, it was good, but I feel a better quality turkey could have been used ( Boars Head) j ordered sweet potato tots for my side , they weren't warm. Server comped bill and gave some to go...HOT! My husband had the pulled pork sandwich, he said it was good but a little too sloppy joe ish. The Mac and cheese was delish! I had such a wonderful experience dining here. The atmosphere and service are fantastic, and the food is very tasty! You'll find this establishment to be a warm, comfortable place where you'll want to stay and enjoy it all. I'm definitely planning a return visit. Gods service, very pleasant wait staff. I had the nachos with the house pork. I did not care for the sweetness in nachos and do not recommend it. However with the right meat and more of the beer cheese, it a dish going in the right direction. Good large portions. Husband had Pulled Pork and Mac&cheese. Sandwich was okay, but nothing special. The Mac was very dry, the waitress recommended some beer cheese which helped tremendously. However a restaurant should look at these reviews and customer feedback in the restaurant to improve dishes. There are too many other eating establishments to not constantly look at improving their food. Again it seems like very nice people, the ambiance is very nice. I wish them luck but they need to improve before I eat there again. read more

Bar food on par with Applebees Pulled pork sandwich overly sweet. I couldn't eat it bc so sweet. Somehow the sweet potato tots were both burned and mushy. If you want a drink and apps, this might be a place for you. If you want better than chain restaurant, go elsewhere read more

I'm from out of town and stopped in on the recommendation of some of the employees at the VA. It was a very pleasant experience and will certainly come back again if my schedule brings me back to this area. Although some of the wait staff were new they were extremely pleasant and efficient. I met the owner and she was very nice to talk to. She is a registered nurse and is looking to work in the VA as well as her duties at the restaurant that she runs with her husband. A great experience and if one is from out of town do yourself a favor and stop by. The locals know about this gem. read more

So glad I ended up here for dinner! First time out in Augusta on a rare date night, this place was not our first choice but due to long wait times, we came here. Zero regrets! My wife and I came here and had a delicious meal and great service! My wife had the Parmesan Encrusted Haddock and it was delicious and a generous portion. I had the angus burger with bacon, bleu cheese and bbq sauce which was amazing. Turns out we knew the owner and the bar manager!
