a basket of bagels and doughnuts

I was in Augusta for business early in the morning and was looking for fresh bread to take back to a friend in Portland and after a quick check on YELP, found Slates Bakery. Once I got there, I realized this was a small and cozy addition to the excellent Slates restaurant, which I had been to before. This very small, in fact tiny bakery is filled with fresh breads, including bagels and lots of excellent looking baked goods. I started with a loaf of Anadama bread and an onion bagel and then looked into a glass cooler and noticed slices of pumpkin cream cheese roll and then noticed that they were selling the end slice, which looked funky but was completely delicious for $1.50! After a brief conversation with the helpful and informative woman behind the counter, I learned that SB often offers end cuts and pieces of their baked goods for $1.50. How awesome is that!!!

Sweet spot for a quick snack. The bakery is tiiiny- only a few people can fit at a time. We went to grab a few cookies and we snagged a spot in the cute cove between the bakery and the restaurant. Perfect for a reading treat

I stopped here after lunch, looking to satisfy my sweet tooth. They have a LOT of goodies to choose from. I got a sugar cookie, chocolate chip cookie and oatmeal blueberry cookie (which was definitely the best). The cookies were chewy and seemed to be homemade. Outside they had a lot of small tabels and seating. Due to COVID they are only letting one customer/group be in the store at a time. Which is probably how much can fit in there comfortably anways. They have a decent selection of cold drinks to choose from. In terms of coffee options I only saw coffee/iced coffee. If you are looking for coffee probably go elsewhere in town but if your main goal is desserts...definitely try this place out.

They did an incredible job maintaining the historicalness of the area with the expansion and added seating that stays with their rustic, plant-loving vibe. As always, the food was delicious, exactly as expected. I always get French toast because it is THE best!

Oh what a place!! I love this little spot (emphasis on LITTLE). This is not a traditional diner -…read moreit's much more like an upgraded coffee shop. You walk in to this gorgeous space, step right up to the counter, and order all the goodies you could possibly want. The drink menu is vast - so many fun coffee beverages for the adventurous, and non-coffee options for everyone else. But if you want to keep it simple, their serve-yourself drip coffee is delightful, and there's plenty of flavors to keep it interesting (peppermint white mocha drip coffee, what??) Ok so you get your bevvie and you work very hard to find a cozy little nook to sit down - maybe someone is waiting for a to go order and gives up their seat for you? It's Gardiner, people are kind! You sit and wait and take in the surroundings - it's almost like you're in a greenhouse, with potted plants everywhere you look and dried flowers hanging from the ceiling. Then your little buzzer goes off and you go get your own food directly from the kitchen - no server/expo/restaurant experience required! Score your own hot sauce, silverware, and other condiments along the way. And dig in! The food is amazing! It's all stuff you've seen on a brunch menu before - French toast, eggs Benedicts, sandwiches - but it's got that extra flair. French toast with lemon curd and raspberries. Corned beef Reuben, but baked in Filo pastry instead of bread. A breakfast scramble with a spicy Korean twist. It's all fun and different and GOOD. You'll be too full, but stop at the counter on the way out the door and snag a fresh croissant or pastry for later. You'll thank me. I would love for this place to be full-service... But I think that might change the whole vibe. There's something cozy about the do-it-yourself aspect. And everything else about Bintliff's is delightful. We can't wait to return.

It was hot and muggy outside but we would've tolerated that for some live music - had we arrived an hour earlier. So we decided to sit inside. The AC was on full strength! So that was refreshing. I was a little chilly by the end of my meal, with goosebumps. But no complaints, like I said, it was muggy outside. I'll take the cool when I can get it! The waitress staff were BUSY today! Carefully marching around platters of many drinks in glasses, navigating foot traffic, small children nearly feral, some heavy doors, and a flight of stairs to the various levels of patio. Kudos to your athleticism for that accomplishment! Goodness! I helped the door open for one young lady that was sweating by bullets carrying about nineteen cold beers on one hand. Food was STELLAR! I had the "Ultimate Grilled Cheese" which was a trio of tasty melted gooey cheeses with applewood smoked bacon thick cut, a tomato pesto on garlic Parmesan crusted Naan bread. Served with a side of salt and vinegar fries. YUMMMMY!
