Get outta town!!! OMG we are headed to Camden & Bar Harbor. Our 1st stop was Red's Eats in Wiscasset to have their famous lobster roll. Bummer they don't open until May 6, two days from now. Continuing our drive north we came across the famous Moody's Diner that's known for their pies & down home cooking. They cook their own turkey so a turkey club is a must. For me it was either a 1/2 # lobster roll or a Percy burger with Swiss, onion & mushrooms. The burger was the juiciest burger I've ever had & I had a hard time getting it around my mouth. I managed to eat 3/4 of it & took the rest back to our B&B for later. We also had a side of awesome onion rings. If you've never been go eat & enjoy Maine cooking & hospitality. A factoid: They serve over 55,000 pieces of pie a year. Off to Whitehall B&B to rest up, go sightseeing & have an extraordinary dinner the night before our 37th anniversary. I forgot look at the size of this oatmeal raisin cookie we bought. Biggest cookie I've ever seen. BTW: Kris ordered a slice of strawberry rhubarb pie, she didn't like it. Moody's Diner is known as a long family legacy and a classic New England roadside landmark known for their pies and legendary comfort food established in 1927. These historic must-stop stays busy all year round with patrons of locals and tourists alike. You walk in and you'll see history and family photos. We've been driving here for many years and never stopped, and today we finally did! We came in at 1:15 p.m. and there was still a wait, around 20-30 minutes. We were going to have their famous dishes but opted to get breakfast instead. I enjoyed my 3 eggs over easy with sausage and a side of bacon, and BF had his with ham and blueberry pancakes. You can never mess up breakfast, which we are looking forward to going back and trying other dishes, specifically the biscuits and gravy, my ultimate American comfort food, and I'd be the judge. Moody's Diner in Waldoboro is small-town Maine at its best. We first heard about it in the most Maine way possible, we asked a grocery store cashier where to find the best blueberry pie, and every single person she asked walking in the door immediately said the same thing: Moody's. When a whole town votes the same way, you listen. We ended up going three times during our trip, and honestly, it was mostly for the pie. Each time the diner was packed, with about a 15-minute wait, but it was worth every second. The place buzzes with energy...waitresses flying around with plates stacked high, yet still making sure everyone is taken care of. Classic diner chaos, but in the best way. The food is pure comfort. First off, when you get seated they bring you warm perfectly baked buttery biscuits to set the mood (had to mention that). The chicken croquettes are huge, golden, and come smothered in rich gravy, a serious stick-to-your-ribs satisfaction. The turkey sandwiches piled high and drenched in gravy taste like Thanksgiving pulled up a chair. And then... the pie. Oh, the pie. Their blueberry pie is exactly what you dream about when you picture Maine, sweet, tart, flaky, and the kind of dessert your wish your grandma would bake. We didn't just go once. Or twice. We went three times...because one slice just wasn't enough. Moody's isn't fancy, it's better. It's authentic, it's delicious, and it's a slice (literally) of Maine tradition. Happy Mothers Day! It was soooooo busy there today. Everyone was kind as usual, but seemed a little frazzled. I tried to be thankful and offered a smile every time a waitress walked by or helped us. Just wanted to make their day happy! I ordered the Chicken Croquettes, which are little balls of ground roasted chicken mixed with a stuffing and then fried and smothered in gravy. This tasted yummy, but the texture was not desirable. The stuffing was a little "wet". I think a little longer in the fryer and they would be superb. OR fried and then baked maybe? The biscuits were devoured in .03 seconds and I wanted to rub the pickled beets all over my face they were so delicious. read more

The Seafood Platter was generous in size (plenty for taking home for another lunch). Fish was fish sticks rather than a larger fillet. Scallops and shrimp were delicious. The clams were tasty but would probably have bounced at least once if dropped to a hard surface. The French fries were excellent. Cole slaw (which I am not a huge fan of) was actually pretty good. Lots of crunchy cabbage and carrots without too much sauce in it. The waitress was efficient without being "naggy" during the meal. We got pie to go (looked too god to pass on, but too Fulton eat it now). Neat place with 1950s decor including lunch counter and wooden booth to sit in. We ordered the banana cream pie x3 to go. That was a huge disappointment just regular size slice for $7.99 each. We drive by this place all the time and only stopped once for a mediocre slice of blueberry pie 15 years ago. On our last trip coming down from Rockland we stopped by for a snack. The gift shop cashier rang off the variety of pies there. So we decided to give it another shot- and we're so glad we did. We split a turkey club, fish chowder and a strawberry rhubarb pie a la mode. The club had fresh roasted turkey. It was one of the best clubs I've had in ages. But the star was the strawberry rhubarb pie-omg the crust was light and flaky and the filling so good! It really was one of the best pies I've ever had - and I don't think I would like rhubarb. Fun old time ambiance. The servers were fast and courteous. read more

Moody's Diner is a classic! I'd heard about this place for years before moving to Maine, so of course I had to try it. This being an early lunch stop, I went for the haddock Reuben--a new thing for me, even though I've been a Reuben sandwich lover all my life. How did I not know?! It's so delicious! It just works, and it's all perfectly proportioned with the cheese and the sauerkraut (from nearby Morse's, also so good), and crispy, toasted bread. While I didn't have room to indulge in any of their famous pies, I did grab a yummy slice of lemon velvet cake to go. I imagine this place is packed during high season, but since I was there in late March after a big snowstorm, the vibe was 100% local. The staff are welcoming and low-key, which I love; somehow, even though it was my first time pulling up to the counter, they made me feel like I was a regular already. And then the local dude sitting next to me started chatting with me about the storm and roads and all that normal Maine stuff, so as far as I'm concerned even though I'll always be "from away," this is a place I feel like I belong. I was visiting the area with some friends and we visited Moody's twice in less than a week. There always seems to be a wait, but things move quickly. The food is outstanding, albeit a bit pricey. The first day we went for breakfast but were too late for the regular breakfast menu. A couple of us had the $10 breakfast special which consisted of two eggs, two blueberry pancakes and choice of meat. Score! I don't remember what the other two had but there was praise. They are known for their baked goods and pies. We all took some baked goods to go. We had pumpkin chocolate chip cookies that were to die for. The next time we went for dinner. I had the pot roast which was delicious and a piece of the best blueberry pie I have ever had. The pie with ice cream was $11, but I didn't care. What a joy to eat! A couple others had the custard pie that they loved and we got some more of those delicious pumpkin chocolate chip cookies... As I said, pricey but worth it. The restaurant is clean with the old diner vibe. It's a family operation and there are many family members working there. read more

Moody's has become a family tradition for us. Anytime we are driving up north and pass Waldoboro, a pit stop at Moody's is a must. This place is truly a gem with so much history. How lucky are we to have Moody's be part of our state. We first dined at Moody's two years ago and just fell in love with it. We love diners, and Moody's is the epitome of a perfect one: no frills, extensive menu, cheap prices, yummy food that makes you feel good, great coffee, and that ambiance that's so unique to diners in New England. They have plenty of parking and plenty of space inside, so even on their packed days we haven't had to wait more than 5 mins to get a booth or table. We love all of the seating options -- booths, tables, and bars are available. The menu is quite extensive. We've enjoyed their breakfasts and sandwiches, as well as their pies and biscuits (they're to die for!). The chicken parm sub, the Bertha burger, and the Reuben's are some of our favorite items from their menu. We are grateful for places like Moody's Diner. Moody's is the quintessential American diner. We loved it! We were there pretty late on a weekday evening. There didn't seem to be many tourists there (like us), but there did seem to be a lot of locals. The staff were friendly and we could see they knew many of the customers. the menu is what you would expect from a diner and the food matched our expectations. Moody's has been here a long time, and it tells a great story about its history. We felt like we were learning a bit about post-WW II America as we learned about Moody's evolution over the years, which we thoroughly enjoyed. In addition to the diner, there was an adjacent ice cream shack, which was a fun way to finish our meal. We will definitely stop here again. If we're planning ahead, perhaps we'll stay in one of their cabins. read more

The food was wonderful and the waitress was great but several other staff were rude and put a damper on the experience. We were visiting and stopped for breakfast and after a wonderful meal wanted to purchase a t-shirt. We looked through the displays and unfolded several shirts to see what was on the back because there were different designs. We made our selections and folded all of them back up and went to check out. While we were checking out one of the staff members went over and started refolding the shirts while looking over at us. After paying we left then I went back inside to use the restroom before hitting the road and three staff members were huddled together by the shirts and I heard them say "They unfolded practically all the mediums". Wow! They acted like we had unfolded them and just stuffed them back into the display or thrown them on the floor. They were all refolded, I guess not perfectly enough for them. Classic diner with locals filling up the seating at the counter. A few booths on the left and tables to the right. Apple pie and banana cream were both yummy. The later was almost perfect. Never been to a restaurant that serves caffeine free Diet Pepsi. That was exciting. This is an icon in this community. I have been here so many times but not recently. We decided to stop in on a chilly morning for coffee and breakfast. My usual poached eggs and heart stopping sides of meat were terrific. My husbands breakfast sandwich was good too. The coffee here is hot and regularly flowing into my cup Service is the long time waitresses who may not smile but are sincere in caring for their customers. I still ate it. Sadly our onion rings were cold. Meal was average. The shining star of this diner is the pies for sure. This received 20/10 for me. I ordered the blueberry pie and it was AMAZING. It was a truly great experience. I had wanted to go to Moody's for a long time. I had heard of it through multiple grapevines so when we were driving past it a month or so ago I knew we had to stop. There are a lot of classic diners in Maine on on US1 but this one was supposed to be extra special. The place was nice, classic. I got our order in pretty quick and then hung out in the car. We were social distancing but the inside did feel very clean. there was a few people in booths enjoying their meals. after some time I went in to ask about our food and it wasn't ready. Apparently the cook had missed my ticket. We sat in the car longer then suddenly the manager was at my car door with the food. He gave us a huge discount and apologized for the delay. He certainly didn't have to do all that but it was greatly appreciated. We enjoyed our burgers and whoopie pies and headed down the road. My wife and I had lunch here on Friday. We are not locals, but have family in the area, so have eaten there many times in the past. My wife ordered the fish chowder, and I had the hot turkey sandwich, with fries and a small bowl of gravy on the side. After a considerable wait, our food was finally delivered. The fish chowder, fries and gravy were lukewarm at best, resulting in our returning the chowder and fries back to the kitchen. By the time the food was redelivered, the gravy had cooled off completely. After our meal we both ordered a slice of blueberry pie, and asked to have it warmed up. When we received our $8.00 slice of pie, one side of it was slightly warm, and the other side was refrigerator cold. We brought this to the attention to our server when she brought us our bill and her comment was along the lines of "I'll know better for next time". When I was paying the bill the cashier did not ask about our experience, I figured I would offer it up unsolicited. Her response was "Sorry about that, do you want your receipt". My father has raved about the pies and desserts at Moody's Diner for years. I even own an apron from Moody's. Finally had the chance to try it for myself this past weekend. The lobster salad was decent. I prefer a salad that has been prepped in the kitchen so that I don't have to spend my entire meal slicing and dicing cucumbers, lettuce, and onions, but I understand also this is an acceptable way to serve salad for some, so no stars lost there. I ordered the Whoopi pie for dessert. This is where Moody's lost a star. A place known for pies and desserts should not serve stale Whoopi pies. The chocolate cake was dry and hard, making this not even close to being a good Whoopi pie. read more
