Black Fly Stout, tasted old and flat
Doug L.

Monday night and place looks fully staffed with a moderate level of patrons. I waited roughly 10 minutes to be greeted with a menu. Another 10 to 12 minutes went by before my drink order was taken. And again, another 10 minutes to get my beer. For a place that advertises as a "Pub", you would think the staff would get drinks in your hand immediately. My beer, a stout brewed by Gritty's, tasted old/sour. Was barely drinkable. Ordered French Onion soup and fried shrimp for my meal. Both came out at the same time. And the fried shrimp came out as fish nuggets. So they can't even get the order right. Soup was clearly from a mix, not homemade. Turns out the fish nuggets is what they offer as fish and chips. And these nuggets and frys were cold by the time I finished the soup. The fish was Haddock which gets chewy when cold. I tried to be nice and not make a fuss, but it was inedible. The waitress brought me some shrimp (like I originally ordered). They were at least hot, so I ate those. Table was filthy, beer (the only one I had) was bad, wrong food brought out, timing of food coming out was wrong, service was poor. Cannot recommend.

Genuinely just didn't like the place. The food was not good at all. The wings may have been some of the worst quality wings I've ever had. The chicken was literal rubber. Besides our wonderful server Delaney and our speedy service, it was unfortunate. The other dishes we ordered like the blackened chicken sandwich and the habanero burrito were nothing to brag about. The burrito actually only had habanero hot sauce drizzled on top and the only thing in the burrito was just dried out rice and chicken. There was no flavor to it really so that sucked. The sandwiches were okay according to the others in my party, but the sweet potato fries were served nice and soggy. This place was recommended to us by a server to come for some grub and drinks, but I guess she meant just the drinks! It was a brewery and none of us were much of beer drinkers, so we really couldn't enjoy that aspect of it, and it is a brewery. I don't know, I guess just the food threw me off here. Everyone that worked inside was nice and there was an overall cool setup and interior, definitely late night bar ideal and I guess solid drunk food. I guess I'd probably give the food another try after few rounds of drinks.

Me and my family came here to celebrate my graduation and the food was superb! Fast and friendly service and an excellent selection of tap beers and mixed drinks! Will be returning again and again to feel the calm riverside ambiance

A solid pub with solid pub food. The staff were pleasant, it was exactly what I thought I was going to get, decent food, and a good beer.

I love a place that will allow you to order all flats, I will happily pay extra for all flats. I won't even entertain eating the upper part of the wing, too many things happening up there. I always order my wings as chicken, flavored sawdust. I've had salmonella more than once from chicken wings, but I love them too much to stop eating them. These were cooked perfectly! The burger on special was a two patty smash burger with grilled pineapple pickle onions, and a sweet Thai chili aïoli. I added fresh jalapeño and got the aïoli on the side because I wanted to see what it was like. I was really happy. I got it on the side because there was flavorless. It was basically mayonnaise that they mixed sweet Thai sauce with and called aïoli. Also, if it's a sauce that I don't know, I don't trust it, I don't want it on anything before I try it. I think that should be like rule of thumb. But the burger was awesome, I got it with dirty sweet potato fries. Which means I put some Cajun seasoning on it so it had that sweet, salty, spicy element that I love so much. They also have this delicious French pear martini on the specials menu. It was fantastic, it was fresh, bright, not overbearing. I hope that stays on the menu for a minute because it was LOVELY. And I took home a cute little dessert sampler that probably could've done without all the whipped cream over the little dessert squares, but my boys loved them!! Great place for lunch, really cool location, relaxed feel, don't forget to check out the little waterfall!!

It took about ten minutes to receive two beers and an appetizer, and there were no plates or silverware until we asked. The bartender never checked in or followed up, even when another guest nearby gave up after being ignored. The food was poor (overcooked), but the lack of basic hospitality made the entire experience feel uninviting. The food typically is average. Bartender spends her time on other employees who are eating. There have been multiple similar experiences with this bartender. The simplest way to ruin a bar is when this happens...patterns of slow service, poor communication, or unprofessional behavior that keep repeating. Same staff, languishing customer volume.

They have come a long way and look different in 2025 while still having a good amount of charm and uniqueness it had back then. As you could imagine by the name and the fact they opened in a former Naval Air Station they go heavy on the plane theme. Beer names especially and they offer a good variety of beer styles and have non-beer options for those not interested as well. I have enjoyed every visit including my many visits over the years here. The best time to visit is during the summer or at least nicer weather to fully enjoy their outside space. Arguably the best addition since their opening has been their food program. Think wood fire pizza and some other non-pizza offerings. My wife and I have had their pizza in the past and very much enjoyed it. This time though my wife got their Italian on Focaccia and I got one of their Chicken Bacon Ceasar sandwiches. Instead of typical bread it used a folded pizza dough and both our dishes tasted phenomenal. If you visit trying their food is a must, do not skip on it! Beer wise today we sampled four beers new to us. I got Wings their NEIPA & Vuelo Nocturno Mexican Lager while my wife got their Plane Beer American Lager and the Krösswind Kölsch. We enjoyed all four of them and we were glad to have found so many on tap we had yet to try! Flight Deck may not be an immediate thought when you think of Maine Breweries but they deserve recognition. Offering a well rounded variety of beers and other drinks along with some great food in a unique inviting space! Add it to your brewery bucket list!

There are so many seating options inside and outside, and the outdoor space is especially great. They have covered areas that keep you comfortable in rainy or cold weather, and there are always fun activities happening outside. The beer is consistently good. We haven't tried one we didn't enjoy. The pizza and sandwiches are also really solid and perfect for grabbing a quick lunch. The service is always fantastic. Every person behind the bar has been friendly and welcoming each time we've visited. One of the things we appreciate most is that they allow dogs inside. Our puppy loved relaxing while we enjoyed our food and drinks, which makes it such an easy spot for dog owners. The location on a former military base adds a really unique atmosphere, and they do a great job leaning into that theme with thoughtful details throughout. Overall, it's a great place with great beer, great people, and an inviting atmosphere. Highly recommend. Cheers!

Beer purists may find the brews to be average, but I'm more than happy with the variety of beers offered and satisfied with the ones I tried, especially the Peanut Butter Milk Stout, There is also hard seltzer ("hard water") that can be flavored with any of the Italian soda flavors, a hard tea, and hosted cider, all gluten free, as well as mixed drinks. No question there is something for everyone. So happy to have more food items to choose from to go with the beers. A nice assortment of options at a reasonable price point. I had a Rueben panini with kettle chips, which was satisfying. My friend has the Birchwood Signature Soft Pretzel that is made with spent grain from the beer production and served with warm beer cheese, which also was decent. A standout was the server - Ella Q - she was super helpful at explaining the menu, flights, and was so pleasant! Knew just when to check in, and when to give us space. Bottom line - a solid local option for food & beer with great service on this particular evening, and live music on some nights. Grab your friends, have a flight or a pint, some food, and be happy that this option is available in Gray.

Service has always been consistently great. Friendly, prompt, detail oriented and caring about our experience. We have never had a bad interaction with any of the staff members. They are hardworking customer focused team. Good with children and elderly folks. The food has been consistently good, temperature, quantity, flavors, textures and presentation. We have tried their burgers, pizza, bowls and appetizers. We really like their brussels sprouts, including our 3 and 6 year old family members. There's a wonderful sweet savory flavor, a nice crisp to the outside and very tender inside. The burgers and fries are very satisfying and flavorful. Most recently I discovered (realized) you can add mac and cheese to a burger. It was yummm!!! The wings, are plentiful, crispy and juicy. Be careful, because the internal temperature is VERY HOT when they first arrive. The past few times we have been the restaurant was very comfortable, not too cold or too hot. They have the ability to accommodate the 6 of us with ease on the times we have gone. This is definitely one of the core options when we are in town. Great for our whole family.
