Went for a drive here in Maine snd came across this cool place. Inside it's an old mill, that they turned into a cool pub. We were seated and ordered pretty quick We started with the cheese curds. Always a fan favorite!! My wife and I each ordered a burger. Both were very good. They had 2 big holiday parties,but the service was still really good. We will be back! read more

I probably should've gone to the fish place next-door. I didn't realize this was exclusively their beer. It was fine, but I really wasn't in the mood to play "Guess what beer taste good". Crispy spicy brussels sprouts were neither crispy nor spicy. They also came out about 30 seconds before my dinner. There were several haddock dishes on the menu, so I thought I'd go with a crispy fried haddock sandwich. It was not crispy, very oily and basically just fell apart. Wendy's has a better fish sandwich. Bartender was there by herself working her ass off. That doesn't make it good service. The building itself is very cool. read more

Stopped in with my husband and FIL. Great selection of beers and interesting cocktails. Service was slow. Waitress was pleasant but our food took a long time. It was cold when it arrived. Couldn't eat the fries or sweet potato fries. Cold and soggy. The Brussel Sprouts were good but again cold. Short on staff? We asked if one of the TVs could show the Patriots game. First person told us - NO. While the rest of the TVs were showing wrestling- we asked one more time - nicely. One TV was switched to the Chiefs and Cardinals. Well better than wrestling. Headed back to Augusta after church and swung through to get lunch here. We always love seeing a staff that works well together and just collaborated to deliver service. Well done to Adrianna and the young lady that was helping her. While we didn't get beer, we did get into some food. The Banh Mi is one of the most refreshing sandwiches I have ever had and the wings were exceptional. My only complaint was that the coleslaw needed some more seasoning and there was no salt/pepper on the table to let me handle that. The Soft Preztel is one of the best I have ever had and you will not regret it (I did mustard with mine which was a great choice). Good place, glad we stopped. read more

Very nice atmosphere inside and out. Outside was a very cool setting with water Tim Ling down rocks and an old building crossing the stream. Feels like New England! A wide selection of beers with generous samples to make a decision on which one(s) to choose. The food was great too. Generous portions and cooked just right. I got the Parmesan crusted fish. It came on a bed of buttery rice and perfectly cooked green beans--fresh but not raw, nor were they mushy. Just right! Hope to stop back the next time in town. read more

The atmosphere is very nice and the staff friendly. The menu shows a variety of interesting choices. During our visit the service was slow, no it was not a busy time. The food was good, although barely warm when it arrived. Our wait person was friendly during the few times she returned to our table. The bill had several erroneous charges totaling over $10 ( 1 extra beer, plus several extra $1 charges that made no sense) I would have tried to have this adjusted, but the wait person did not return to the table after delivering the bill. Unfortunately the gratuity reflected less than I would normally have tipped. I will likely not try this Pub again. read more

Great place to go service was excellent!! If you're a beer person definitely the place you want to go! The building is in a beautifully restored mill.. The food great normal bar food with a twist here and there. The fries aren't the best they remind me of the long John silvers French fries I think they would do better with a nice seasoned fries. Part of a large party of about 30 who attempted to dine for lunch today at Baxter brewing pub in Lewiston. We called prior to arrival and spoke with someone to make sure they could serve a large party. The person (lady) on the phone said absolutely we have a private dining area we can put you all together in right away. When we arrived to check in we were told that was not the case but we could all set together in the area towards the rear. This was absolutely fine and we all took our seats. The servers (2 females) approached us with total attitude. One said this will all either need to be on one check or we can split this only 4 ways. (We were multiple families here for a baseball tournament) when we questioned this we got more attitude and were told this is the policy. Keep in mind the entire restaurant was practically empty with only 2 other couples in the building. At this point I asked to speak with a manager. After an eye roll she left to get a younger man who said he was the manager. We stayed our concerns and politely asked if they could accommodate our Desiree to spend our money at his establishment. He said he would need to speak with his manager and left. Upon return out options were similar as before with him saying he could do one check and we split it or we do 4 checks of equal amounts. Still not acceptable but we agreed to 4 checks -1 each large table (at this point at least 15 people had decided because one of the waitress was so rude they left. Long pause and no service when finally another employee Angela M came to our tables very apologetic and said "I can take your orders and split the checks, I do this all the time" This was the turning point for us. Angela was awesome! She was well organized, attentive and brought our food with no further issues. Now for the "Manager" he conveniently disappeared into hiding and offered no apologies for the horrible customer service by his staff. For this reason alone I would discourage anyone from patronizing this establishment. While the food quality was good the management and most of the staff here have absolutely skills in customer service and seem to take their jobs for granted. read more

Finally made it to the Pub and it did not disappoint. The beer is great and large selection of their tried and true as well as new beers. The food is also a great mix. We had a couple sandwiches and they have great added options for jazzing up your fries. Lots of flavor all around. Highly recommend. read more

Food and service is hit or miss. I've been there seven times and the experience has varied. Bartenders and waitstaff has always been nice, but the wait from ordering to arrival had seemed a bit off when taking into consideration how slow business was during the visits in question. I enjoy myself a good Brew Pub and Maine seems to see these type of establishments popping up more and more each year. If you are into the industrial style decor with a brick wall structure and old-mill stylings you will enjoy the environment that The Pub at Baxter offers. They are located in the downtown part of Boston directly behind Mill #3 building. If you are entering from Chestnut (next to DaVinci's) continue between Mill building #3 and #7 and you will see a heavy duty iron fence as their entrance. There is plenty of road parking and the parking structure is also available. When you open the heavy gate, you walk up a small path that leads up to the entrance. They do have outside seating available during non-inclement weather days. Once inside you immediately recognize the mill style with the addition of industrial fixtures, wooden tables and steel chairs. At the time I went half the restaurant was occupied and noise level was fairly reasonable considering the high ceilings. They do have quite a beer selection and I chose to go with the Coreflight which gives me a 5 beer sampling of: Einstein, Maine Lager, Hop Tryst IPA, Stowaway and the Per Diem. I am more of light beer type guy so the Einstein, Hop Tryst and the Maine Lager were my favorites. Stowaway was good as well. I am not a big on the darker beers so the Per Diem porter was a bit on the bitter side for me. Their food selection is limited and has some appetizers, sandwiches, burger and salads. I had the pulled pork sandwich which was a bit on the small side for $12. It was Caroline pulled pork on a brioche roll with slaw on top of the pork. The brioche role was a bit on the greasy side to the touch. The pulled pork was dry as they give you the Carolina sauce on the side. You definitely have to add the sauce otherwise the pulled pork is a difficult chew. The slaw was lightly dressed and lacked salt and pepper. The one thing that blew me away though was their sweet potato tots. I could eat those by the barrel. I have had sweet potato fries in the past, but these had the subtle sweetness, but the saltiness to make you want more. Add a little hot sauce on them and forget about it, I am done! Overall, the Pub at Baxter has a great atmosphere, great selection of beers on tap, but small menu. If you are going to offer a small menu, you better deliver on size and quality with the food. That is where Baxter fell short was on portion size and quality of the food. I will go back just for the tots, but I will try one of their other main dishes to see if there is a pattern on portion size and quality. read more

Great place for food, drinks and hanging out, with a beautiful industrial feel (check out the mural on your way out), in an old mill right next to the canal. Decor is perfect for the purpose and atmosphere of the bar. Friendly staff, efficient and great live music on a regular basis. Their special events, including new release parties, are a blast. It's not easy to get to if you don't know the area - set your GPS for DaVinci's and keep going past it. Parking on the street or in the lot and garage across the way. And you don't need to know the details, but their specialty drinks are delicious and very easy to throw back, they've got a heavy pour, and their toilets are nice and clean. And I only had TWO. This place was very neat and clean on the inside. The outside was rustic and fit well in this mill town. There was also a beautiful mural on the adjacent buildings wall as you looked through the restaurant windows towards the outside. Tried a few of their beers because I like to support local, but I'm not an ale person. I am more of a sour gal so the beers were not for me. We arrived early and quickly watched the bar and restaurant fill up for taco Tuesday and everybody was getting beer. I saw very few people ordering cocktails. I myself had a classic margarita you can't mess that up. The spinach and artichoke dip was amazing. The only thing I could say is I wish it was bigger as I was sharing it with a co-worker. The chicken sandwich was not as good as I had hoped it would be. Now it was a very large piece of chicken. It just wasn't my taste. The sweet potato fries, on the other hand were amazing! And the blueberry cobbler with what I hope we're fresh made. Blueberries was also pretty delicious. Definitely could've used more of a granola topping, but I would get it again. The service was good, not bad at all either. We just had sat for awhile just chatting at the bar. The bartender didn't rush us just casual check ins which was nice. Only reason not a 5 was the limited menu which I understand as a small establishment is necessary to keep costs low. read more

Celebrated St. Paddy's Day at the Pub at Baxter, in the Old Bates Mill in Lewiston. Great location and tasting room. Raucous, fun crowd on arrival. Whiskey shots on special ($7.50-9), Bulleit Rye was the choice. Smooth, and oaky with hints of honey and smoke. The beer choice was a 16 oz. Coastal Haze ($7), a juicy NE IPA, with bright florals and citrus notes. Very quaffable and delicious. Noshed on some hand cut fries, hot and much needed with the beverages. I was so excited to try The Pub at Baxter as I only just recently heard of it and we had some friends in town who wanted to try some new beer. The atmosphere of this place is STELLAR! I mean even just when you arrive, the torches when you walk through the large rod gate and the outdoor area make it exciting. Being in a beautifully renovated mill made for a great experience as well and they did not skimp on making this place beautiful. When we arrived we gave our names for a table and were told it would be about 30-45 minutes. This was at 5:30 on a Saturday so not totally unexpected. (However next time I will be sure to make a reservation in advance.) While we waited, we sat in one of the the two waiting areas that's had three leather couches-- it was great. Our friends grabbed a beer and wine and we all sat and chatted. I was craving a beverage as well but with being pregnant knew there wasn't a ton of options for me at a brew pub. I asked for a mocktail which they happily obliged to make-- a Blueberry Smash. The drink (I assume based on taste) was made with smashed blueberries, simple syrup, soda water and garnished with rosemary and blueberries. The drink looked nice and tasted decent although I was shocked at being charged NINE dollars for something that didn't even contain and ounce of alcohol. My mocktail alone was only three dollars less than my friend's beer and wine combined. (Only three dollars less.) Perhaps I have been out of restaurants and bars for too long but charging the same amount for a nonalcoholic beverage as you would an alcoholic beverage seems a bit preposterous to me. Sadly we didn't stay long enough to grab our table as we had two young babies with us and we worried they wouldn't last through dinner. The menu did look delicious although a bit on the small side which I believe is common for brew pubs. I will be excited to try the place out again for a date night where it can be a bit more relaxing without kids! read more

The food was absolutely wonderful with quite a wide variety. The selection of drinks change per season the sign of a well adjusted public house. I especially like the variety of seltzers as well as beers on tap. The service was fast and courteous. Food always served with a smile and always willing to suggest selections from the menu. I love Baxters the food is fabulous. The atmosphere is wonderful. The only problem I have run into is one particular person. Her name is Emily. I stopped in on Friday August 16, 2024. Before I could even get in the door Emily, without even a slight smile very rudely informed me I would have to be seated outside as my small dog was with me. She didn't even give me a chance to tell her my dog is an emotional support dog. I have never been treated so terrible by a person who works in a restaurant . I was there with one of your employees daughters and we were going to have lunch, but after being treated so badly by Emily we waited outside to speak with the employee whose child I had with me. After letting the child speak to her parent we left and ate elsewhere. I am sure Emily has been with your restaurant for awhile, but with that attitude she has I will be calling ahead to make sure I don't have to deal with her. I have always enjoyed my meals at Baxters and have always praised Baxters to all my family and friends, but now when do that I will have to warn them about Emily. Emily really left a bad taste in my mouth. I really hope she can get the hint on being nicer and not so RUDE. read more

But the managers and team are only thinking about themselves and not the customers, this is sad because this place has so much potential.
