    Field greens salad
    Sashy M.

The things that were good about this experience were GREAT and the things that were bad were awful. The waitstaff was amazing, it's a gorgeous spot on the water, our field green salad was delicious, and the parpadelle pasta dish was decent. The pasta was homemade, it was a generous serving of seafood, and more than we could imagine eating in one serving. Unfortunately, we also got the halibut and the risotto was broken. It was just in a moat of grease. You can see in the photo that is just standing oil with rice and Parmesan swimming in it. It was hard to assess the halibut because of the greasy, salty soup. I also ordered a cocktail and swapped out the alcohol for club soda. They charged me for an alcoholic drink. Which- whatever, i did order off the menu, but it's still doesn't feel great. I would go back, and give them the benefit of the doubt that the risotto was a one-off.

Prime rib, mashed, veg of the day and cosmo

Go for the view stay for the food! Water's Edge has established itself as a food lovers destination restaurant. High end menu offerings at very reasonable prices for a restaurant along Maine's iconic Rt 1 - which is itself a tourist destination. The Wiscasset/Edgecomb by-way is a summertime fave with the visitors to Maine. Don't let that scare you! Water's Edge is a fine dining experience that even the locals love. There are probably local fishermen at the bar for a true Maine experience! The menu is clean, uses local products, and offers standard faves as well as seasonal specials. Thursday is Prime and Wine night, you get the prime rib, mashed, and seasonal veg of the day. This was my latest meal here (I dine here maybe 4-6 times a year). The meal was perfectly portioned, the prime rib was tender, medium rare, had been perfectly prepped. Came to me sleeping in a pile of mashed potatoes seasoned cleanly with salt and pepper (just how I like them) the veg was sautéed brussels sprouts and cherry tomato. I accompanied my meal with a cosmo from their seasoned bar tender. It hit the spot! Save room for a decadent dessert list. Their creme brulee will change your life... The space itself is sunny clean and bright. You get the nautical vibe without the lobster traps and buoys of a traditional Maine eatery. On some nights local musicians perform and there is even a small space to give your partner a twirl. The view is just breathtaking - it's is iconic coastal Maine. Outside the windows is the inlet and across the inlet you see the quaint outline of downtown Wiscasset with its shops and boats. Eat slowly to savor the flavor and the scenery! Traffic may look daunting in the summer, but generally folks understand and let others take turns merging and exiting Rt. 1. New traffic lights in Wiscasset seem to keep drivers moving - there is so much to look at so you don't really mind. I hope if you're visiting my State this summer you give Water's Edge a try! You'll love the view AND the food!

Roof Top dining area best view around !!!

Water's Edge is the best kept secret around if you're looking for delicious food served by fun loving attentive staff look no further you have to try this place !!!

    Lemon parmesan crusted haddock

(2.5?) First the good news. The first picture is the view from our table. The staff were very nice and helpful. The spinach crab was hot and tasty, plenty for 4 to share as an app. Whoever shucked the oysters was not very good at shucking; my (adult) kids and I could each do a better job. All 6 were in pieces. (Came back and added a pic of oysters that I shucked, and not even with my own knife.) I'd also guess that they had been out of the ocean for at least 2-3 days. The mussels were much better, fresher and they opened themselves nicely. The parmesan lemon crusted haddock had good potential, but was WAY too salty. There were two pieces of fish, one on top of the other, and the one on the bottom was a reasonable salt level. Overall, the meal was OK, but definitely not worth the cost.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Great spot ... views are fabulous from rooftop deck.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The waiter was very friendly ....however , i didn't stay and order. After being seated, and brought water and menu I decided to leave. Reason being - the menu! It was not at all what I expected: very limited options - and not at all tradional seafood options except for a lobster roll and fish & chips. It seemed like they were trying to put a new twist with gourmook interpretations. Why would anyone expect a pork schnitzel sandwich with bearnaise sauce at a coastal restaurant in ME ???! Weird ! Also, virtually impossible to get anything here if you're gluten/ dairy intolerant.

Excellent food! Highly recommend! Just be patient, staffing issues are not the server's or hostess's fault.

I would of given this place 5 stars- bc service & food itself really was so good. But oysters came out without the horseradish, had to wait on it, & drinks weren't great. For dinner- I had the Lobster Mac which was amazingly good. I was very pleasantly surprised by how tasty. Good amount of lobster & pasta, with really tasty sauce. Haddock Chowder my husband & I both thought- wow- really good. With right amount of fish & potatoes which were on the small side which I prefer. And my husbands Clam Linguine- yum. He had to ask for more bread bc the bread was so fresh & dipping it in the sauce was so delicious. Def recommend. We sat on rooftop - and had wonderful view of the water with the sun setting. But inside also has some great window views too

David, Jose and Bruce went above and beyond for our birthday party! Great food, service and atmosphere! The views are amazing! Highly recommend the lovely cheese platter, the juicy burgers and the "imposter" vegan burger! Something for everyone in your group. Locals and visitors alike will enjoy relaxed, upscale vibe. Don't miss this mid coast gem!

When you're driving on Route 1 heading south toward Wiscasset and Bath, stop at this clean, fresh place for delicious food. We ate on the rooftop deck, which was delightful, with views of Sheepscot River and Wiscasset village. My husband and I shared the burger and shrimp tacos, with sides of sweet potato fries and garden salad. The burger, on a brioche bun, was exactly how we requested it: rare. The sweet potato fries were crisp and also tender, and plentiful. The shrimp tacos were great, shrimp perfectly cooked, and a nice lime flavor in the slaw. Our server was adorable and friendly. The place is beautiful, with attractive, simple decor. We will definitely return here regularly.

Grace, the waitress tonight, was great! The bartender made us gimlets even though they weren't on the menu and made them just to our specifications. The food was delicious-- especially enjoyed the caesar which had a very light dressing and the mussels which were in delicious broth. The staff are attentive and kind. Perfect Maine hospitality!

Thank you Water's Edge for opening dining room for 95 yr old Dad who couldnt climb stairs!!!

One had the fish and chips. Up this way they use haddock. Don't know why we don't in Charleston, that was some oh-so-delicious fish!!!! I'd been dying for some 'Boston' clam chowder. This chowder definitely fits the bill. Tasty, salty (in an appropriate way) thick, hot, and stuffed with some delicious clams. I also decided on the risotto, just the 4 cheese, no protein. This was creamy and so full of flavor, 6 days later I'm still thinking about it. We sat on the rooftop, enjoyed some fine weather, a great meal, and lovely wine. Couldn't have been a more perfect lunch!

Go to impress parents or similar if you are a college student. For quality and price, based on our experience, would not do again. Overcooked eggs, grudging portions, mix and match plateware that just confounds (bacon and eggs in a bowl - really? but only for one person in the party?). The menu is also misleading. The fabled "hash of the day" turned out to be just a pile of ordinary unremarkable overcooked and unseasoned home fries. The same side everyone else had for free, but costing some part of the wallet-stretching $21 in the context of the all-in "165" breakfast - two overcooked over-easy eggs (no seasoning), a slice of thin sourdough bread cut in two, a pile of indifferent home fries and two of the smallest pieces of bacon you can imagine. $8-12 in any self-respecting diner in the country, and typically made with far more care and flavor. When asked how plain ordinary home fries were a "hash of the day" when they were also unmentioned sides for other dishes, the waitress shrugged and said "it's a KIND of hash. We call that hash here." Touche. Should have asked more questions. And the toast is a single piece of seemingly storebought sourdough bread cut in half (no evidence here, just disappointment being expressed). No substitution, no extras. Pretty much no butter, either. Another member of the party had the blueberry pancakes, Thick and heavy, and unremarkable, once again. Any diner does it better - for half the price. Timing was a serious issue too. The dining room was somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 full. 3-4 tables in other words. Still took well over 45 minutes to get food. Watched 2 pairs of other diners come, order, eat, pay and leave as we waited, Food came cool with no explanation or apology for the long wait. Small complaints perhaps, but at this price, they are making bold claims and utterly failing to match up. Breakfast should be a lay-up for places like this. The ingredients cost almost nothing and the work involved is strictly short-order, simple, fast-turn work in a relatively uncrowded dining room. No reason to go light on ingredients or on flavors. Breakfast is an easy meal to wow in aplace like this, and New England has traditions to uphold - and yet the establishment clearly did not see the point in putting in the effort to match their prices, decor, or location. The capper was watching the tables cleared by a surly teenager in stained board shorts and stained tshirt and sneakers with unwashed hair in a beautiful dining room. The young man clomped in and would withdraw 1-2 plates at a time before stomping out, taking over ten minutes to clear a single table. Overpriced and under-quality. It's for tourists. Beautiful building, though.

It was such a thoughtful gesture, and we left with a great impression. We decided to check out the bar across the street, but it wasn't our vibe, so we called it a night and walked back to The Abbey. Their patio was empty and well lit so we decided to sit there while we waited for our Uber. Our server immediately came out and told us they were closed and that we couldn't sit on the patio, promptly closing the door and shutting the light out on us. While disappointing, we understood. The part that left such a bad taste in our mouths happened next. As a group of young women, we were standing outside when a group of loud, rowdy men across the street started making us uncomfortable. We genuinely felt unsafe. We went back inside and politely asked if we could wait indoors for our Uber, explaining that we didn't feel safe outside. Instead of showing any concern, the bartender looked at us and said, "Oh, that bachelorette party? No." The bar was still full of customers, and we weren't asking to order more drinks or stay all night. We simply wanted a safe place to wait a few minutes for our ride. After how warm and welcoming they had been earlier, the complete lack of compassion in that moment was shocking. Customer service isn't just about being friendly when you're serving drinks. It's also about treating people with basic human decency when they tell you they feel unsafe. Unfortunately, our final memory of The Abbey wasn't the complimentary champagne or the great service at the beginning of the night. It was realizing that, when it actually mattered, our safety wasn't important to them.
