[[HIGHLIGHT]]To start with there was a sign on the door, hand scribbled saying that the dining room would close at 8:30.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was close to 7:00 so we asked if we could get food up on the deck and were told yes but there was limited seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We found seats, the view was beautiful so we planned to get dinner.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There was not nearly enough staff but we eventually got drinks. It seemed like no one wanted to take our food order. My husband was finally able to ask a waiter to take our order and we got a rude reply that people with reservations came first. He came back after awhile and told us that we would get better service if we went downstairs to the dining room. He did take our order but made it obvious that he didn't want to. At 9:15 my husband asked him about our food and told him we had been waiting a long time. The waiter was so nasty and told us that he could just cancel our order. He was unwilling to even check to see if our food was coming out soon. He told us that if he did the kitchen would tell him that it would be ready when it was ready. After 45 years in the food industry I recognize that restaurants in Maine get busy in the summer time and I know that it is hard to find help but there is no reason for the rudeness. Don't allow patrons into your restaurant if you are unwilling or unable to wait on them. Yes, it was a holiday, yes it was busy. But don't open your doors if you can't handle a packed restaurant. read more

The things that were good about this experience were GREAT and the things that were bad were awful. The waitstaff was amazing, it's a gorgeous spot on the water, our field green salad was delicious, and the parpadelle pasta dish was decent. The pasta was homemade, it was a generous serving of seafood, and more than we could imagine eating in one serving. Unfortunately, we also got the halibut and the risotto was broken. It was just in a moat of grease. You can see in the photo that is just standing oil with rice and Parmesan swimming in it. It was hard to assess the halibut because of the greasy, salty soup. I also ordered a cocktail and swapped out the alcohol for club soda. They charged me for an alcoholic drink. Which- whatever, i did order off the menu, but it's still doesn't feel great. I would go back, and give them the benefit of the doubt that the risotto was a one-off. read more

Go for the view stay for the food! Water's Edge has established itself as a food lovers destination restaurant. High end menu offerings at very reasonable prices for a restaurant along Maine's iconic Rt 1 - which is itself a tourist destination. The Wiscasset/Edgecomb by-way is a summertime fave with the visitors to Maine. Don't let that scare you! Water's Edge is a fine dining experience that even the locals love. There are probably local fishermen at the bar for a true Maine experience! The menu is clean, uses local products, and offers standard faves as well as seasonal specials. Thursday is Prime and Wine night, you get the prime rib, mashed, and seasonal veg of the day. This was my latest meal here (I dine here maybe 4-6 times a year). The meal was perfectly portioned, the prime rib was tender, medium rare, had been perfectly prepped. Came to me sleeping in a pile of mashed potatoes seasoned cleanly with salt and pepper (just how I like them) the veg was sautéed brussels sprouts and cherry tomato. I accompanied my meal with a cosmo from their seasoned bar tender. It hit the spot! Save room for a decadent dessert list. Their creme brulee will change your life... The space itself is sunny clean and bright. You get the nautical vibe without the lobster traps and buoys of a traditional Maine eatery. On some nights local musicians perform and there is even a small space to give your partner a twirl. The view is just breathtaking - it's is iconic coastal Maine. Outside the windows is the inlet and across the inlet you see the quaint outline of downtown Wiscasset with its shops and boats. Eat slowly to savor the flavor and the scenery! Traffic may look daunting in the summer, but generally folks understand and let others take turns merging and exiting Rt. 1. New traffic lights in Wiscasset seem to keep drivers moving - there is so much to look at so you don't really mind. I hope if you're visiting my State this summer you give Water's Edge a try! Our service was wonderful great staff 5 stars on service. The Thanksgiving buffet was disappointing!! Turkey and potato was just ok but cold. Mac & cheese was hard as a rock undercooked and not edible very crunchy both pans they brought out. Green bean casserole, stuffing and soup was bland and cold. Salad was empty. The ham was like shoe leather and cold. The desserts were mediocre but ok. The menus was supposed to have shepherds pie but it was meatballs instead but those were OK as well in fact they were the only thing that was hot. The overall meal experience was just beyond disappointing at $45 a person!! I really expected more especially since the food is usually really good here. Out of eight of us all of us felt the same way. We're not very picky but the food was just awful. I felt like we were eating left overs. :( read more

We were here in May and shared the taco trio. We both agreed these may have been the best tacos we've ever had- packed with so much flavor, the shells were soft but grilled slightly, and topped with fresh ingredients! Chef Marcelo is sure bringing this place back to life with his culinary expertise! Chocolate martini on special was fabulous, as was the rest of the staff- cheerful and friendly. The spinach crab was hot and tasty, plenty for 4 to share as an app. Whoever shucked the oysters was not very good at shucking; my (adult) kids and I could each do a better job. All 6 were in pieces. (Came back and added a pic of oysters that I shucked, and not even with my own knife.) I'd also guess that they had been out of the ocean for at least 2-3 days. The mussels were much better, fresher and they opened themselves nicely. The parmesan lemon crusted haddock had good potential, but was WAY too salty. There were two pieces of fish, one on top of the other, and the one on the bottom was a reasonable salt level. Overall, the meal was OK, but definitely not worth the cost. read more

Unfortunately the dining experience was deeply disappointing for our party of six at Water's Edge on Sunday, 12/16. Unfortunately, it was our first visit, and it fell far below the standards expected of a fine dining establishment. While the food was tasty, the handling of our entrees overshadowed any enjoyment. One entree was forgotten, causing an unacceptable delay of over 20 minutes. Despite multiple reminders, the staff failed to address the issue promptly. Instead of taking responsibility, our server unprofessionally blamed the kitchen and repeatedly insisted it wasn't her fault. Additionally, another steak ordered rare arrived well done and had to be sent back. Service was inattentive and unprofessional. Restaurants run out of things, it happens; the server should inform the customers of unavailable items prior to taking an order (in our case ran out prior to Sunday PM dinner service starting - not in real time). Multiple hairs were found in our cocktails and on side plates. Our server refused to take starter and entree orders together, citing needing to stagger kitchen timing, despite the restaurant being nearly empty. Additionally, a 20% automatic gratuity was added (fine for a large party) but led to inadvertently tipping WELL over 20% due to the handheld credit card machine defaulting to add 7-15% additional tip in a non-obvious way. The staff seemed overwhelmed and uncoordinated. The manager's apology was undermined by minimal compensation--$19 off a bill exceeding $300. Such lapses in service are disappointing and reflect poorly on the restaurant's reputation. As locals to Midcoast Maine, it's disheartening to think we need to warn others against trying Water's Edge or any affiliated properties based on this experience. read more

I would of given this place 5 stars- bc service & food itself really was so good. But oysters came out without the horseradish, had to wait on it, & drinks weren't great. For dinner- I had the Lobster Mac which was amazingly good. I was very pleasantly surprised by how tasty. Good amount of lobster & pasta, with really tasty sauce. Haddock Chowder my husband & I both thought- wow- really good. With right amount of fish & potatoes which were on the small side which I prefer. And my husbands Clam Linguine- yum. He had to ask for more bread bc the bread was so fresh & dipping it in the sauce was so delicious. Def recommend. We sat on rooftop - and had wonderful view of the water with the sun setting. When you're driving on Route 1 heading south toward Wiscasset and Bath, stop at this clean, fresh place for delicious food. We ate on the rooftop deck, which was delightful, with views of Sheepscot River and Wiscasset village. My husband and I shared the burger and shrimp tacos, with sides of sweet potato fries and garden salad. The burger, on a brioche bun, was exactly how we requested it: rare. The sweet potato fries were crisp and also tender, and plentiful. The shrimp tacos were great, shrimp perfectly cooked, and a nice lime flavor in the slaw. Our server was adorable and friendly. The place is beautiful, with attractive, simple decor. We will definitely return here regularly. read more

Grace, the waitress tonight, was great! The bartender made us gimlets even though they weren't on the menu and made them just to our specifications. We were a party of 5 and were seated at 5:00PM. The restaurant was empty of customers except a handful at the bar. The interior was bright and clean looking. However, service was very slow-ordered cocktails were very slow being served, with the waitress offering up a lame excuse that the bartender was very busy. WTF? All 5 of us ordered different entrees but honestly, we were all disappointed in the taste and quality. I would not recommend this establishment for dinner. read more

I took my mom and her fiancé here for brunch. It was really yummy but there was only two servers where was not the best idea because it took forever to get started with just water. My husband and I were taking a drive on Sunday and looked for a place for a late lunch/early dinner and saw Water's Edge was open. Walking in we were a little concerned and almost walked out because we thought it was a hotel/Inn as the entry looks like a checkin. However, we kept going some of the furniture is outdated but don't let that stop you. There is a small bar at the back wall of the restaurant and plenty of table seating for diners. The staff were very attentive without the feeling of being rushed or ignored. Marcus was our waiter. We had the scallops and mussels as appetizers and they were delicious (the sauce in the mussels was fantastic so keep the bread coming with this dish). For the entree we had cheeseburger perfectly done and linguine with clams. Both delicious. We were pleasantly surprised. We also had live music playing which was very nice and not overly loud so you did not have to scream to hear each other. My only recommendation is it needs updating inside, get rid of the Hotel/Inn feeling also better signage on the outside as you are walking through the doors to get to the restaurant ( especially for those that are not locals). Very clean and open restaurant on the Sheepscot River in Edgecomb. We were traveling en route further north and wanted to stop for lunch at a sit down restaurant. We were not able to have a table with a full view of the river but we're seated on an upper floor so had some view. The menu is somewhat limited but I expect that there will be more choices in the future. I had a cup of the lobster corn chowder and a cesar salad while my husband had a burger and side salad. The chowder was outstanding with pieces of lobster, potatoes and corn in a rich brown broth- I should have gone for the bowl! The salad was very minimal- with very little dressing and maybe two or three croutons. Thumbs down. My husband was very happy with his selections - the burger was thick, juicy and prepared the way he likes it. Probably the best that he has had in a while. Our server was pleasant and very enthusiastic. The facility was very clean, including the restrooms. Well worth the stop but I would avoid the Cesar salad read more
