The last time I paid the Harraseeket Inn a visit it was nothing to brag about. But someone has stepped up their game ladies and gentlemen. From musty dive hotel bar, and not one of the fun ones (well there was this one older lady that would serve you the strongest drink of your life whether you told her you were driving or not but other than that), to fine dining. Beyond impressed! This place is BEAUTIFUL and I don't know how they did it, but it doesn't have that smell anymore. And anyone that has been there in the past knows exactly what I'm talking about. Kinda like your grandmother's basement after a flood from 15 years ago that no one probably cleaned up. Yeah you know the smell. The short ribs were gorgeous, the reduction was perfect and the wild mushroom au gratin was heavenly. NY strip was perfectly tender, seasoned well and cooked to perfection. I'm never surprised anymore when a restaurant forgets what "medium" actually is. Sadly, I'm at the point where I'm surprised when they get it right. Pleasantly, but still surprised. This place, definitely gets my vote when I go to Freeport to spoil myself. If you haven't gone here yet, you're doing it wrong. read more

December 4, 2025 My mother and I went to Porter's today for lunch. I hadn't been to the Harraseeket Inn for 25 years, so I was anxious to see what had changed. It took a few minutes to be seated, since no one was manning the reception station. Apparently that's waitstaff's job - when they're not doing 100 other things. This is an oversight on the restaurant's part and something I pointed out to the manager. Once we were seated though, our experience blossomed into something really wonderful. Neither my mother nor I ordered appetizers.... Since we figured that lunch would be enough (it was). They don't serve bread or crackers or anything as a gratuity - which is probably a cost-saving as well as time-saving measure. It also forces you into buying one of their "small plates" (appetizers), which looked wonderful but were also quite pricey. We also didn't order alcohol- which probably saved us between $30 and $50, since their cocktails were $15 and upwards. Same is true with their wines. Appealing but pricey. I ordered the beef short rib entree ($38) (see attached photo) with a small Caesar salad and their wild mushroom ragout. The beef was some of the best I've ever had. It was fork-tender, juicy, and flavorful in ways that are hard to describe. As for the wild mushroom ragout.... It was cheesy and delicious, but lacked any visible mushroom. I told our waitress so and I hope she passed it on to the chef. My mother ordered their Grilled salmon, served on a bed of cranberry quinoa and topped with an avocado sauce that was amazing (see photo). ($41). The food was so good that there was no hope of taking any home. We wiped out everything! (See photo) We hard coffee with our meal and with taxes and tip, the bill came to $118. Well worth it for such a fabulous meal. We'll go back, but with my father and eldest daughter in tow next time!! read more

We were in Freeport for Valentine's Day with no reservation. We decided to attempt grabbing a late lunch somewhere and to our surprise we could grab a seat here. Billy was our server and he was fantastic. The overall vibe was nice as we engaged with many other tables. Cocktails were fabulous my husband keeps mentioning the old fashion. We had a corn beef Rueben sandwich and I had the short ribs entree. The meet form the short ribs were so tender and delicious. The potatoes and Brussels sprouts were also great. My husband said his sandwich was fantastic. We will definitely plan another meal here. We choose to take a piece of cheesecake back to the hotel and even hours later it was great. read more

What a big step down from the Harrasekett dining experience. First we tried two of their wines, grapes that we always love, and they were both undrinkable with very harsh taste. We eventually gave up and did without. We had hoped for a quick dinner so went right to the entree. But food took so long that we saw several tables asking for status reports, and ours was also slow. We had the chicken braised in red wine, which was tender, well seasoned, and quite good. Staff was pleasant enough to make up for the delays. Located inside the Harraseeket Inn, Porter Kitchen + Bar is cozy casual restaurant and full service bar serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There is seating at the full service bar with TVs offering 6 draft beers, beer bottles/cans, wine list, cocktails and mocktails. The food menu selections include small plates, sandwiches, burgers, salads, soup, chowder, main entrees (steak, chicken, seafood, pork, short ribs), and desserts. They also offer specials too. The prices are moderate. After spending an afternoon in Freeport, we decided to head over to Porter Kitchen at the Harraseeket Inn for dinner. The place was moderately busy and dining room seating was reservations only. We had made a quick reservation online before heading in, but it was for over an hour later. Ultimately, we decided to sit up at the bar which was open seating. The bartender cleared spots for us and gave us menus and ice waters. For a starter, the Fried Cauliflower ($12 plus tax) was served in a bowl, comprised of tender crisp cauliflower smothered in Szechuan honey gastrique, pickled onions, scallion, and sesame. This was very good. For entrees, we ordered the Pork Schnitzel ($24 plus tax) and the Corned Beef Reuben with Fries ($16 plus tax). The Pork Schnitzel was comprised of 2 breaded crisp tender boneless pork, crispy potatoes arugula, lemon vinaigrette, grain mustard, jager sauce. This dish was pretty good. The Corned Beef Reuben had thick slices of carved corned beef (some edge fat), plenty of melted Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, Russian dressing on the marble rye bread. The golden hand cut fries were lightly salted and had a firm texture. For dessert, the Blueberry-Lemon Bread Pudding ($7 plus tax) was served warm, dense & soft with blueberries & lemon flavor. The house made scooped vanilla ice cream balanced out the tart flavors of the bread pudding. The check for 2 people came out to $63.72 with tax and before tip. Overall, the meal was pretty good and the service from the bar was spot on. We were also given a box for much of the reuben and generous portion of fries, which we shared the next day. read more

We moved to Freeport a year ago and have tried various restaurants to get familiar with our surroundings here in our new town. Porter House is one that we hadn't tried yet until tonight. Our server was delightful, very efficient, and kind. The food, however, was absolutely awful. The diver scallops were the size of bay scallops and tasted like burnt molasses. And the risotto was far from a risotto, unfortunately. We barely had four bites. When the server took our plates, they were still full of food, and when he asked if we wanted a to go box, we said no . We thought that might be a red flag about our experience. But it was not and that's not his fault. We've eaten in dozens and dozens of restaurants and this by far was the worst food we've ever experienced. read more

Unfortunately the breakfast was not up to par. Ordered from the menu (they also had continental) The pancakes were actually 2 crepes. The eggs Benedict was disappointing. The english muffin was not cooked, the egg was over cooked and the hollandaise sauce tasted of vinegar. The home fries were the average square cut potatoes not bad, not amazing. The service is great all employees are great. It is a great atmosphere with a great view to meet up especially if you are a guest of the Hotel. read more

Stopped in for lunch, the Ruben sandwich was yummy. Wife had Salmon and it too was very good. Mom enjoyed her crab cakes and our daughter had a lobster roll and she really liked it too. Service was attentive and friendly. We miss the original Broad Arrow Tavern, we liked to sit in front of the fire and watch the chefs work behind the counter. We just had a great meal at Porter. I feel like it's a type of restaurant that doesn't exist much anymore, a little more upscale than a bistro, but still reasonably priced for the quality you get. I had the Statler chicken which was really yummy, my wife had grilled chicken on a beet salad which she said was delicious. They have a kids menu which is nice, my 6-year-old had some really delicious fish and chips with an extra crispy shell, and moist, flaky whitefish inside. We'll definitely be coming back when we need a break from our usual Friday night fair of brewery pizza. read more

Our server was very helpful and each of us in our party of four loved the food--a creative and tasty selection of apps and entrees, and lovely presentation. I had high hopes for this restaurant because if the reputation of the inn and the previous restaurant. I was disappointed for a few different reasons. The service was slow. Our server was good, however, it was the length of time between courses, apps, dinner and desert. I ordered the blackened haddock sandwich, which was reasonably priced, but very salty. My wife commented that the mussels were not what she hoped for. The seating was a little awkward. The chairs looked great, but we couldn't comfortably pull ourselves into the table.
