    Ribeye

Had a great meal at Gather! They use fresh, local ingredients, and the menu is very gluten-free friendly. I had the sweet corn curry with bison, which was delicious, and the marinated ribeye was also excellent. The tables are a bit close together, and it's not overly fancy, but the food was great and reasonably priced overall. Would for sure come back.

Went here for restaurant week, and it was the first time trying the restaurant. First off it's the building is super cool, it looks like an old meeting building. They have a large bar, open seating and kitchen concept. Our waitress was lovely. We for a bottle of wine (decently priced) and then our 3 courses for restaurant week. The chowder was fantastic, braised pork was fantastic and crème burlee. I will be back to try some more dishes!

Gather is built into a former Masonic Lodge. They have used the open space in such a way that even though it's very open, it feels very cozy. The decor is kind of rustic which is both casual and elegant and is perfect for their farm to table menu. The staff was very cheerful and friendly. Quick to offer suggestions but didn't hover too much. The food was fantastic! We started with the truffle fries which were a big hot for the four of us. Crispy and delicious. My Smash burger was perfectly cooked and not at all pretentious. Two orders of orichiette pasta came out and were resoundingly complimented. The roasted squash dish was a fall winner, too. Great selection of cocktails, beers, and cocktails, too. What an amazing spot!!!

The building is alluring and the design for Maine is far cooler than most things I saw. The food is incredible. Our party of 6 ordered one of every entree! We started with the crab dip.. which was decadent and divine. The salad was also delicious with a grilled Smokey kale in it and watermelon and feta and cornbread croutons. All the cocktails were creative and good size and price. The entrees offered something for everyone from the most finicky young adult to a vegan. The steak frites were great, the truffle fries amazing the carrot dish and explosion of flavor ! The short rib tacos with grilled pineapple salsa I will try to recreate.. the wild mushroom pasta to die for. Incredible experience. Every dish!

Was a nice evening. Went for restaurant week and we were so glad to get to try it. Can be on pricier side when not restaurant week. The kitchen is open and on an old stage. Very cool atmosphere ! It's worth a splurge! Drinks were fabulous-real mixology involved.

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary here this past weekend and were very pleased. We have had a number of friends and coworkers recommend that we try it and finally got around to going. First off, I must commend them for an excellent plan to handle the coronavirus restrictions. Reservations were required as well as texting/calling upon arrival. Face masks were required and tables properly separated. The touch less bill payment option was very cool as well The food was very good. My wife and daughter spilt a beet salad which they enjoyed, especially the goat cheese which was very strong but delicious. I had the crab fritters which were a bit mushy but very flavorful. For entrees, my wife had the summer steak which was perfectly cooked. I had the flounder with lemon, capers and brown butter which was very good. My daughter ordered a gluten free pizza which was surprisingly excellent for GF. The service was super friendly but a bit slow and distant at times. I am willing to overlook it due to the fact that our waitress seemed to be covering a lot of tables and dealing with the difficulties of extensive outdoor seating due to the pandemic. We will definitely be back.... especially since the brunch menu looks fantastic!!

    Kale salad

I was fortunate enough to experience Gather with a special event for Dinnermates, so we had the entire restaurant to ourselves. And gather indeed we did--for one delectable meal. First up: a kale salad. I'm normally ambivalent about kale (I don't hate it, but always feel like I'm supposed to like it more than I do), but this was truly one of the best salads I've ever had. Whatever they did to the kale made it just soft enough yet still crisp enough, and it was mixed with shaved Brussels sprouts and thin slivers of apple and a Dijon dressing with some rosemary mixed in. The woman sitting next to me and I were joking that if they brought us a vat of it, we'd just keep going. A pork ragù was our second course, a meat-lover's heaven that included sausage and chorizo that was clearly simmered down for hours, daubed with house-made ricotta. This was a prix fixe meal, but I should note that they accommodated vegetarians and vegans too; I was seated near someone who went with the vegan option, and they adjusted her salad dressing and provided a baked squash entree that looked great. And our dessert of chocolate cake with strawberries and cream turned out to be gluten-free and vegan (coconut cream), and it was wonderful! High praise to the chef and staff as well, all of whom were terrific and knowledgeable about what they were serving. This is an interesting space--a former grange hall, with the open kitchen situated on what the stage would have been--and I'm keen to come back on my own to experience the regular menu and vibe.

The food here was beyond belief! The flavors were divine, the food was incredibly fresh, and the menu is environmentally and ethically produced and discarded (for composting). I loved that their menu told about farms where they source their food. You know you are getting fresh, free range options. If you have Emma as your server, you will be very lucky. She knows the area very well and can provide area recommendations for visitors. Her service was great!

Their delicious burger with a side of handcut fries! Yum!!!

It's just a single smash burger patty with cheese, in a "Pub" without even full table service.

Turns out, this place is way better than I expected. I had it in my head that it was some kind of tourist trap because of the location, but nope. It actually gives off super local vibes, and the food was REALLY good. I think this might be in my top three for best food-to-price ratio in the greater Portland area (does Freeport even count as that?). My "dish" was $11.99 and came with two eggs, two sausage links, two hash browns, and a homemade biscuit. The only thing I didn't get two of was the biscuit, but it was huge, so I was actually relieved about that. I left stuffed. More importantly, everything was really yummy! The hash browns were crispy but not greasy, the eggs were cooked perfectly sunny-side up, and that homemade biscuit... I could've taken another one to-go. Make sure you ask for it grilled; you'll thank me later. My husband got the biscuits and gravy and his food was just as good. Also, they have dozens of mimosa flavors. I had the pineapple mimosa and it was phenomenal. Service was great, too. Our server was friendly and super attentive. The vibe inside reminded us of some of our favorite diners in Massachusetts; no frills, nothing fancy, just a classic diner feel. Exactly why we loved it.

It took a few minutes to be seated, since no one was manning the reception station. Apparently that's waitstaff's job - when they're not doing 100 other things. This is an oversight on the restaurant's part and something I pointed out to the manager. Once we were seated though, our experience blossomed into something really wonderful. Neither my mother nor I ordered appetizers.... Since we figured that lunch would be enough (it was). They don't serve bread or crackers or anything as a gratuity - which is probably a cost-saving as well as time-saving measure. It also forces you into buying one of their "small plates" (appetizers), which looked wonderful but were also quite pricey. We also didn't order alcohol- which probably saved us between $30 and $50, since their cocktails were $15 and upwards. Same is true with their wines. Appealing but pricey. I ordered the beef short rib entree ($38) (see attached photo) with a small Caesar salad and their wild mushroom ragout. The beef was some of the best I've ever had. It was fork-tender, juicy, and flavorful in ways that are hard to describe. As for the wild mushroom ragout.... It was cheesy and delicious, but lacked any visible mushroom. I told our waitress so and I hope she passed it on to the chef. My mother ordered their Grilled salmon, served on a bed of cranberry quinoa and topped with an avocado sauce that was amazing (see photo). ($41). The food was so good that there was no hope of taking any home. We wiped out everything! (See photo) We hard coffee with our meal and with taxes and tip, the bill came to $118. Well worth it for such a fabulous meal. We'll go back, but with my father and eldest daughter in tow next time!!
