One of my favorite breakfast stops in Maine. They have the best blueberry pancakes I've ever tasted. Soft, fluffy, loaded with tiny Maine blueberries... they literally melt in your mouth. They're not cheap... $13.49 for their jumbo pancake + $2.99 if you add blueberries, and who wouldn't? You also get a side of your choice of breakfast meat. On this trip I wasn't alone, so my friend & I split 1 pancake & the 3 pieces of crispy bacon that came with. The cook was kind enough to actually split the batter to make us each our own cake. Yes, the photo below is actually 1/2 of what you normally get. We still couldn't finish it! Our server, Sam, was terrific. What a wonderful personality! He was so much fun. I briefly lived at the hotel next door, and worked at the business a few hundred yards away, so I have been here a lot. It is the quintessential diner experience, in the best way possible. Regulars dine here, sometimes every single day. The staff know them and their orders. It is so quaint. I've had quite a bit on the menu, and prefer the breakfast items, although I've never had anything I didn't enjoy. I'm a big fan of their pancakes and cinnamon rolls. Cute on the inside, great portions, top notch service. The only issue has been the construction on the road, and parking here can be really tough when it is busy. Locals already know about it, but if you're a tourist traveling up the 1 or staying around Freeport, this is your best breakfast option in the area. read more

If I had a dollar for every time I've driven past Freeport Cafe... well, you get the idea. My husband had been on my case about trying it for breakfast, and I finally gave in. Turns out, this place is way better than I expected. I had it in my head that it was some kind of tourist trap because of the location, but nope. It actually gives off super local vibes, and the food was REALLY good. I think this might be in my top three for best food-to-price ratio in the greater Portland area (does Freeport even count as that?). My "dish" was $11.99 and came with two eggs, two sausage links, two hash browns, and a homemade biscuit. The only thing I didn't get two of was the biscuit, but it was huge, so I was actually relieved about that. I left stuffed. More importantly, everything was really yummy! The hash browns were crispy but not greasy, the eggs were cooked perfectly sunny-side up, and that homemade biscuit... I could've taken another one to-go. Make sure you ask for it grilled; you'll thank me later. My husband got the biscuits and gravy and his food was just as good. Also, they have dozens of mimosa flavors. I had the pineapple mimosa and it was phenomenal. Service was great, too. Our server was friendly and super attentive. The vibe inside reminded us of some of our favorite diners in Massachusetts; no frills, nothing fancy, just a classic diner feel. Exactly why we loved it. read more

We have been to Freeport Cafe several times over the past few years, whenever we are in the area or passing through. The quality of food is reliable, the prices are low, and the service is very friendly. However, parking is pretty limited and the menu is very short. Also, we recently went for lunch and I got the clam chowder - I found it far too thick and did not enjoy it much. read more

This cafe was located right next to our hotel and was recommended by staff. We could walk there from our room. It was amazing! We happened to stop by for Father's Day and boy was it packed. The service was super fast and the food was great! My husband said the hollandaise sauce on his eggs Benedict was the best he's ever had. The sausage gravy was superb. The French toast was very delicious and the bacon was the best. The create your own omelet was huge and super fresh. Highly recommended. Finally made a point to have breakfast here as I have driven by this location for decades. The only regret I have, is that I didn't try it sooner. Cozy environment - although there are quite a few seats/tables! I was surprised. The parking lot is always full, which can be deceiving. That was one of the reasons I hadn't stopped. I am not patient when I'm hungry and I assumed the wait would be long. I know now, it's best to try and not assume. Parking can be a challenge, however, at least they have a parking lot! When the staff tells you a size or portion is large or small - believe them! We ordered the cinnamon bun and it was overwhelming and delicious. My sister and I could only eat half of it, because we had ordered entrees for breakfast. They were very quick to offer a box for it. We had pancakes, eggs, potatoes, hashbrowns, sausage and bacon. Everything tasted delicious and fresh. The servings were hearty too! Prices were very reasonable for the quantity and quality of the food. Service was great. Greeted immediately upon walking in and only had to wait a couple of minutes for a table. I highly recommend this location if you are in the area and are craving a delicious down home breakfast. read more

We had to come in through the side entrance because my friend is in a wheelchair. So when we got inside, we realized the main line was out the door which pushed us further out because we had no way to stand in line. The people in line could care less that my friend was in a wheelchair and that's why we were out of order when it came to the lineup, so I finally established with three different groups of people that I would be behind that last group, and although I did not go out the door the gentleman that was last told me that if anyone came in behind him, he would let them know that I was next in line, with that I sat down with my friend in the wheelchair, just waiting for the line to catch up so we can go behind the last person due to the fact that my friends in a wheelchair and we couldn't use the stairs. One of the waitresses overheard us having difficulty and helped us out by seating us right where we were sitting and we were ever so grateful. The food is fantastic. There is a reason why the line is so long! The waitress was phenomenal, friendly, funny, and kind to help us out. I would definitely go back for their jumble pancakes, amazing! The whole experience is well worth it, and she was telling people the line moves fast, it's true and the food portion sizes versus the price is well worth it! I'm sorry I didn't get the waitresses Name, she deserves a promotion!!! read more

The restaurant is cozy without being crowded. 8:30 on a Saturday morning and we were seated immediately. I ordered the sausage gravy and biscuit with home fries and scrambled eggs. Both the biscuit and gravy are def homemade, home fries very crispy and a little salty, which is ok with me. The eggs were a little oily, but tasted good. He had an omelet with sirloin burger and cheddar that he did enjoy. read more

Best breakfast in Freeport. It gets busy, so recommend getting early. The waiting situation is a bit unique: you walk through the restaurant and then wait in line for a table. The folks work hard to flip tables though, so I think the longest I've waited is 30 minutes or so. The menu is very standard, and very classic. Everything is well executed. I'm partial to the Freeport Favorite, it's a standard breakfast. The sausage gravy and biscuits are also quite good. read more

Ate at the Freeport Cafe the first day of a weekend stay at a nearby hotel, and liked it so much that we came back a second day. Friendly staff, generous portions, and AMAZING muffins. The only negative was that they were out if hash browns on both days, and were substituting Tator Tots. Still, very much worth a try. read more

My fave breakfast spot in Freeport just opened back up for takeout or indoor dining. They have a new entrance, have spacing between tables, hanging dividers. I love their blueberry iced coffees, the best Eggs Benedict I have ever had. Large pancakes that you can add blueberries to. They sell local goodies such as local hot sauces, granola, maple syrup, etc. Little known secret they have bloody marys (from a can) and can do mimosas. read more

Great, casual cafe and breakfast joint in Freeport. Best part is they serve lunch in the morning! Love it! Enjoyed the club sandwich - perfectly made - and a hot cup of coffee. They have Coca Cola products, another big plus. Grilled blueberry muffin was berry-filled goodness. Clam chowder was a bit too thick for my taste, but the flavor was excellent and chock full of clams pieces. Friendly service and a low key environment. Nice cafe! read more

This place was good, nothing special from your traditional breakfast place. We were kind of surprised that the big breakfasts didn't come with any toast or potatoes. The speciality raspberry jam and peanut butter French toast was good, nothing exceptional. We were surprised that each Maine maple syrup was an additional cost of over $2 per person and came in a tiny shot sized glass (with no mention of additional charge). Arrived at this cafe for a late lunch just before 2P closing. Conveniently located a few miles from the busy Freeport shopping district. I had the fried haddock sandwich. It was huge, but cooked just right so the flavor of the fresh haddock came through. The cold slaw was tangy and also generously portioned I tasted the clam chowder and it was the best chowder I have had in a long time. My wife had the twisted tuna which I almost ordered and she was very pleased with it. Highly recommended after a busy day of shopping! read more

Foodie: Okay folks, here's where I start. I am fortunate to have a large appetite which lets me try a variety of items so my list will be longer than Cutie's. I started off with a veggie omelet and substituted the regular eggs for egg whites. Understandably, there was less flavor in the eggs which only brought out the flavors of the veggies. Starting off strong, the omelet itself gets a 7.8/10 for going above what I expected. To my left there were two hefty pancakes, which I originally mistook for three (a compliment), some ham slices, a hefty cinnamon roll, and a grilled blueberry muffin. To my right, a hot cup of pumpkin coffee (I had it black). To say every bite of the cinnamon roll was like biting into a sugary, airy cloud would do it a disservice. I have had good cinnamon rolls, this was better. 8.0/10. I am known among my friends for being able to put down a lot of pancakes...and then some. These pancakes were satiating, delicious, and had a thick, cakey texture that I would love to have again. If you have a reasonable appetite, these pancakes may be sufficient to hold you over for several hours. However, I would recommend having these as a side to compliment another of their delicious menu items. 8.2/10. The ham was ham. 7.0/10. The coffee was a simple blend, but it was enjoyable and warm. 7.3/10. A surprising star of my order was the grilled blueberry muffin. There was a beautiful mixture of sweet and salty that would be worth getting just by itself. Forget Crumbl cookies, get yourself 6 grilled muffins! 8.7/10. Another set of superstars: the service, our waiter, and the ambiance. First, we were looked after throughout the entirety of our meal and constantly provided with opportunities to (a) get refills on our drinks and (b) order more items. Second, the waiter was kind, provided everything with a smile, and patiently waited while we finished our meal. Finally, everyone working seemed to enjoy each other's company. The teamwork was evident and the laughter was appreciably audible. May they all continue to have such hearty laughter in the future. Overall, the average for the restaurant came to a 7.8. But the service, our waiter, and the ambiance brought that number up to an even 8.0. I would recommend the Freeport Cafe to anyone and everyone. Thank you for such a pleasant breakfast experience! The environment was very positive. Staff was very kind to guests and very notably to each other. When one of the servers came in, the other guests were very excited to see them. There was a very strong community feel in the restaurant. My overall rating is 7.5/10. I thought the food, service, and atmosphere were phenomenal. If I went again, I would get the eggs without the cheese, but that's up to personal preference. My toast was a little crispy, but still enjoyable. The cinnamon roll was the size of a plate and about 4 standard cinnamon rolls put together. Definitely something a family (or two people who really like cinnamon rolls) could share. It was soft and I could envision the Pillsbury Doughboy angrily huffing when losing a cinnamon roll contest to the giant one we enjoyed. Pulled in on a Saturday morning before noon. Place is pretty small and was busy with the line out the door and down the steps, but there was ample parking. There's no checking in or putting your name in, you just wait in line. The line goes all the way into the restaurant and because of that it can get kind of crowded and noisy inside. Once I got seated though, the service and food were pretty quick and good. 3 - 4 stars. read more

We stopped in as we were head south to fly home for a late breakfast. The service was quick and polite and the food was slightly above the average. There were some misses, though. The home fries are quite tasty and cooked to order- the hashbrown cakes are a frozen warmed up distraction. Stick to the home fries. And the sausage was overly seasoned to the point on not being tasty. And, we were asked if we wanted REAL maple syrup with our pancake and French toast when we ordered them. As if we would say- no, we want an artificial sticky item instead. When we got the bill, there was an additional $1.99 charge on it for having a large bottle in the table.- a bottle that would be used by another patron after we left. I get that real maple syrup is expensive BUT share the additional cost and give an individual serving to with the order. It just felt a little like a shell game. read more

One of the rare gems you rarely come across now days We stopped here by chance, was greeted by friendly staff immediately. Once they got the table ready I was pleasantly surprised that they are so clean. Not only do they use disposable menus, even their silverware's are in paper pouch. Then I watched the waitress clean a neighboring table.... no complaints.... so effective and so much better than what restaurants are doing in NY. They get a 5 for cleanliness!!!! Now let's talk about the food, we ordered enough to feed a small army. The BFB with beef hash is a must get, sooo good, their hash browns are delicious as well. Country breakfast was impressive and the ham in the eggs Benedict was yummy too. Over all, nothing was bad!!! We even got a blueberry iced coffee to go!
