When visiting Maine I was on a hunt to try as many lobster rolls and this one took my top spot! This was my first rolls and nothing lived up to this one for the rest of the trip, the meat was perfectly done and not chewy at all, the staff were so kind! Loved that there was plenty of seating both inside and outside. Also, for anyone gluten free they have gluten free rolls that was surprise for the person in our group who is gf. read more

Lobster Cooker - Seafood Near Me - Freeport, Maine

Pros: convenient location right in downtown Freeport, GLUTEN FREE fried seafood!!!!, nice picnic tables outside Cons: most of the restaurant is counter service, the fried food actually isn't good and it's not bc it's gluten free (have had so much GF fried seafood at this point all over New England) but because it's just not fried well, and it's overpriced read more

Seated upstairs in the "full service" area. Ordered iced tea and 3 separate meals. 2 lobster dinners-lobster was great, fries cold and soggy. Daughter ordered fisherman's platter, arrived room temperature. Server deliberately looked away from us every time we tried to get his attention, very attentive to the other 3 tables. Would love to have had refills on our tea. Overall, probably doesn't matter since they are closing in October, but what a disappointment. read more

I really wanted to love this place because it was the only place I could find that offered gluten-free fried seafood in the area. It's basically in the same parking lot as LL Bean, and 7 of us could be seated right away during lunch time. The downstairs area is counter service, and upstairs is full service. There's only a few high top tables upstairs. We got the fried whole belly clams, which were pretty good, and then the lobster roll on a GF bun. The bun was not good at all, and I know it is probably mainly because it is GF, but it's just a shame we can't get better GF bread easier nowadays, and we pay more to have it. The amount of lobster was also super disappointing, which was frustrating because I thought I saw someone else with a lobster roll that looked pretty substantial. My mom got the fried shrimp basket and the shrimp were so tiny, similar to what you'd get at a fast food place when you order shrimp. Terrible! My bill was over $200 for 7 of us, and I left feeling disappointed about how they executed GF and the quality of their seafood. read more

Right next to LL Bean in Freeport you'll find a sensational no nonsense lobster and fish plus land based delicacies. The lobster roll was plump and filled with whole bits of tail and claw meat with a touch of mayonnaise or butter - your choice, served on a toasty hot dog like bun . Fish and chips was above outstanding- not too greasy and seasoned perfectly. Our new favorite when ever we are up this way . read more

Tough review to write ... the lobster roll itself was good ... however for $32 for a single roll, I left feeling full as the roll was only 4 - 5 bites. I get it, inflation is crazy and lobster prices are sky high. However, if I got french fries and a drink, I'd be looking at almost $50 for a single meal. From a taste perspective, the roll was good but I barely felt like I ate after I was done. The meat is 100% claws. I remember the good old days (pre-covid) when some of the sweet, chewy tail meat was included in lobster rolls. Today, 90% of them are just the less expensive claw meat. At double the price of when the rolls included the premium tail meat. This really takes away from the roll. The best part of the roll is that it comes on a buttered, perfectly grilled bun. The salty buttery taste really adds to the taste. The lobster seemed very fresh ... you can just tell ... and was lightly brushed with a watery mayonnaise, which didn't overwhelm the lobster. Underneath was just a hint of green lettuce, which added some crunch and mild taste. No celery. It almost tasted like the lobster had been brined in salt water as there was a distinctive (nice) 'ocean' flavour. The roll was gone in 5 bites. I stared at my empty plate wishing I could have another one. My best guess is that the roll contained the meat of 5, or so, claws. maybe 4 - 5 ounces of lobster. The bun was bigger than the lobster. On the way home, I did a Popeye's drive through, just so I felt like I ate something. It is a damn shame that prices have risen so crazy. If you told me 4 years ago that a small-ish lobster roll would be over $30, I'd have said you were crazy. A twin lobster dinner was less than $30 a few years ago. I doubt prices will ever go down ... but lobster is not beluga caviar, so I think I'm all set for a while. If you have a light appetite, I was surprised at how much better the roll tasted than I thought it would, given what a complete and utter tourist trap this restaurant looks like from the inside and outside. It's right in the heart of an outlet mall too. read more

My lobster roll was the sweetest I can remember, and the local blueberry ale on tap was great too. Great service, nice location amidst all the LL Bean and similar shopping, and the patio was nice in the sun. I thought $30 fair these days for a lobster roll with two beautiful intact claws. Quibbling, the roll was naked, which wasn't what I expected, but again, it was absolutely delicious. read more

Fast service, good size lobsters, nice casual atmosphere. We had to be handsy with our lobster, especially the tail portion since there was no way to split it open. I didn't have my pocket knife and the plastic knife provided didn't help much. Nevertheless, we managed to get the tail portion extracted whole. I would eat here again. Came for LL Bean so getting to eat lunch here was an extra benefit. read more

Came here with my daughter a few days ago and we each had a large clam chowder and split a lobster roll and fries. Are there cheaper eats right around the corner? Yes. But we were with my large dog who needed a rest after shopping all morning and they were kind enough to bring her a water bowl. I loved the fries and all the condiments they offer. My daughter also said that was the best lobster roll she's ever had. And we come to Maine every summer, so that's saying a lot. We will most likely be back if we get the chance! read more

Solid place and a very friendly staff. We stopped in and had the whole lobster, Lobster roll, Shrimp roll, Chowder, Chicken Tenders, and Fried Pickles. I was hankering for some seafood on my daytrip to ME and stopped at this place for a late lunch en route. It was conveniently located off the highway and plenty of parking off main drag behind restaurant. So, for $30 this is what I got... fried whole belly clam basket with fries and they have batter that is gluten free ... awesome. The clams were good enough, a few were a bit gritty not even a pint's worth amount... the fries were terrible ... limp and soggey. When I ordered some other patrons were walking away with their lobster rolls which looked pretty darn good. ( $32 ) If I go here again.. I'll opt for that .. but it's a big maybe. I'm sorry, but I just don't think it was that good to justify $30 + dollars. I can buy a whole lb and a half lobster pre- steamed on sale at my local supermarket for about half the price !!! And, a local seafood place near where I live have fabulous lobster rolls for $19 believe it or not. But hey, if you got the $$$ and you're floating through Freeport and willing to pay tourist trap prices....? read more

Yup, even Ms Cookie loves lobster . However, current prices were a little too extravagant for us down south New Englanders, let alone sharing with a verousixous pup. Despite our Lobsta rolls were fresh, on a butter grilled roll, served cold with a whole claw and chopper tail, on a delicate layer of greens. Ah, cold as it should be. Nice selection of local ale on tap, shaded tables, so pup was welcome. Being on the main Freeport drag and smartly located within the prime shopping area, prices are understood. read more

Overall 3.5 Upstairs seating area is full service and a nice place to sit for a bit. Small space with bar and high top seating. Server was nice but a bit slow and we had to ask for water refills. Menu is the same at the counter or upstairs. The clam chowder had a nice consistency (not too watery) with a solid amount of clams. I would order this again if I came back. The clams were full belly, cooked well and were clean... not gritty. The tarter sauce was goo. I didn't try the calamari to be able to speak to it. The fried ravioli were standard that came with pre packaged marinara sauce. read more

Worth the drive, and the wait! The lobster bisque was absolutely fantastic - creamy, hint of heat and good pieces of fresh lobster. The lobster roll was as good as any I have enjoyed in Maine. We stopped in after running errands and had a fabulous lunch. We opted for upstairs as that is where you can get 'full service and full bar'. It was also raining out so the outside seating wasn't something that we could do. We ordered the fried shrimp and the fried haddock baskets. The seafood was very fresh, and the coating on the shrimp and haddock was flavorful - not just breading. Unfortunately the fries were also very, very good (tried not to eat all of them just cuz). Bonus for sports fans - lots of screens with everything from golf to tennis to baseball and football. Drinks were good and reasonable. We'll look forward to a return visit! read more

My wife and I were on a week long road trip along the coast of Maine and in Freeport, there was a place called the Lobster Cooker, so I decided to grab a lobster roll and salad and IPA. The service was great and the beer was great and the lobster was fresh tasting and had a solid coating of butter. Really good. There was table service upstairs if you desired, but the counter service was fine for us. Fresh ingredients in the salad were great, but homemade dressing isn't that hard to do and would have kicked it up a star. After a visit to the L.L. Bean store, grab some sea insect here and have a nice meal. read more

Lobster cooker is conveniently located a block off the the Main Street in Freeport ME. They offer indoor and outdoor "picnic table" seating. During the pandemic indoor seating was limited. Service is walk-up counter service and your name/number is called when food is ready. I've had three different food orders over 4 visits. Lobster roll twice, fried shrimp basket and red dog basket. Lobster rolls were order with melted butter and came with fries and coleslaw for $30. Ample amount of lobster and tasty. I was expecting the shrimp to be popcorn sized but they were larger which was nice and only $14, Red dogs are interesting. Natural casing, beef/pork and bright red, 2 dogs per order with fries. It appears Red Dogs are popular in Maine. At $10, it was an inexpensive meal and filling. read more

Just a great spot. Incredibly friendly staff, plenty of outdoor seats, and one of the best Lobster Rolls we had during our week or so in New England.
