Twin Tails
Karen C.

Now that was a lobster roll. We are not gonna talk about Price because it had two lobster tails on it. It was served naked which means there was no mayonnaise or anything else on the lobster served with butter on a lovely toasted roll with french fries and a unique and delicious blueberry coleslaw. The lobster was fantastic. I will say you eat outside at a picnic table which at this time of the year mid October is a little cool but not unbearable. I think I would've sat in a snowstorm to eat this lobster roll.

Lobster roll, fries, blueberry coleslaw. $35 on 7/15/2025

In my long quest to find the perfect lobster roll and ambiance, we stumbled upon Shannon's after deciding the food at the harbor in Boothbay is subpar. We ordered quickly, paid a fair price but what stood out above and beyond was the service. The woman at the counter was friendly and spoke to our children about their orders. My son only wanted a hot dog bun and she accommodated him. Even fixing his order of bun and ketchup after he dropped it running back to the table. There are picnic tables to sit at and lots of space for the kids to run around which they needed after being on a boat all afternoon. The lobster roll was well executed, full of fresh lobster, and served with fun sides of blueberry coleslaw or seaweed salad. Would definitely come back here again!

Wow-Wow-Wow! Best lobster roll we had our entire trip! Loved the blueberry coleslaw. Cleanest oil! Fries and onion rings were perfect. Best looking roll as well!!! So so glad we stopped!!!

Blueberry soda

I came hungry, and the portions filled me up and more. Clam chowder tasted fresh and savory~ did need more clam~ my clam basket was very filling and the fries very crunchy and delicious. Blueberry soda was amazing!! The blueberry coleslaw was very delicious. Personally I don't like coleslaw but this version was more subtle and pleasant. I'd order this side next time. The staff showed great patience to my group of friends since we arrived and looked at the menu for a while deciding the best way to try everything. He was so kind and friendly. This location was the best one because it was calm, peaceful, and clean. I couldn't imagen myself eating at the express because this location had no lines and the food is delivered to our table! Absolutely loved the food I got today!

Rating: 4.5 Stopped by for lunch on the way back from the Coastal Maine botanical garden. Its a small shack on the side if the road. They offer outside and some inside seating as well as restroom. We ordered triple lobster rolls, clam basket, clam chowder, blueberry soda, and side of seaweed salad and blueberry slaw. Triple Lobster rolls were flavorful offering one naked, one with garlic butter and moxie sauce and one with mayo. They were all good and fresh but personally I liked the one with moxie sauce as it provided subtle sweetness along with lobster flavor that was not overwhelming. Fried clams were crispy and tasty. Seaweed salad and blueberry slaw were refreshing. Clam chowder was good but I've had better elsewhere. The blueberry soda was surprisingly good and refreshing. Overall the place was good and its a solid place for lobster roll. Service was good and relatively quick and was not too busy. Price was on the higher side but it's standard for lobster rolls. I liked that the lobster roll was not overwhelming with condiments and butter so I can taste the sweet flavor of lobsters

My four friends and I were starving after an exhaustive visit to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, where we searched (successfully) for trolls. Even with GPS, this tiny place was hard to find, but it was worth the struggle. We all ordered crab rolls, with butter, of course, and they were as tasty as any lobster rolls we had had during four days in Cape Elizabeth/Portland. Our server was generous with the melted butter too, and the service was fast and friendly. Finally, the price was right.

Regular lobster roll

Our group of four was here on vacation and found Shannon's Unshelled on Yelp. The positive reviews are spot on. We each ordered a lobster roll, mine with a gluten-free round bun. The rolls came with an ample amount of fresh, incredibly tasty lobster. Sweet, perfectly prepared....butter on the side if you like it that way. The roll comes with a side...blueberry coleslaw and seaweed salad for us...and fries. It's not cheap (market prices are posted), but for the amount of delicious food served, it's a great value. Put Shannon's in your GPS and go. It is a roadside stand with picnic tables and umbrellas for shade. The team is friendly and the food is great.

Food was wonderful. Got lobster rolls with both blueberry Cole slaw and seaweed salad- really good. Served beautifully with an orchid in each roll and hot crispy fries. Clam chowder is thick and tasty with a good amount of clam. Service and kindness were top notch. Lots of tables outdoors and some indoor tables as well. Very clean, very sweet people.

Lobster trio

On a road trip from Portland to Bar Harbor and had to stop in Boothbay! My husband and I heard rave reviews about this place and it was a must stop for us. Unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype for us. We typed the restaurant into our GPS which was incorrect. So you'll need to find the actual address on the website to type in if you don't know where you are. It was a cute little side of the road food truck and it wasn't super busy when we came. There were plenty of picnic tables with umbrellas, which was nice. We ordered the lobster roll trio with blueberry Cole slaw as we wanted to try all the sauces. The food came out rather quickly. The sauces came on the side so you can put as much or as little on the rolls as you'd like. Our favorite was the classic butter. We weren't huge fans of the moxie sauce and I thought the garlic sauce was better with the French fries. The rolls were good sized, but the lobster was a little difficult to eat. This may be a personal preference, but the lobster wasn't torn well and was hard to bite into for a sandwich. The fries were solid, but the coleslaw wasn't anything special. I was hoping for more blueberry flavor. Overall it wasn't our favorite lobster rolls in Maine for several reasons. It's a cute stop in Boothbay, but wasn't super impressed with the food.

Clams and lobster roll- gluten free
Allie K.

AMAZING. The service, the food, the location. Everything about Shannon's Unshelled is amazing. We were visiting Boothbay Harbor and came across Shannon's Unshelled and had to try it. The big seller? Gluten free fried seafood. Allergen friendly. We had the clams, and a lobster roll. They both tasted amazing. Portions were extremely generous. We were chatting for awhile with the staff, and learned that this is a new location, and they're interested to learn that so many people are finding them for the gluten free fried seafood! That's definitely why I tried it too. This is my number one recommendation of places to stop for the boothbay area.

We came to this roadside establishment on Friday at lunch. It was busy but not packed. We went up to the window and ordered lobster rolls and lobster sliders. We sat down at the outdoor picnic tables to wait for our order. This is not a place where the lobster rolls are made out of claw and knuckle meat, but there was tail meat as well. These were the best lobster rolls we've had thus far on this trip. The service was quick. The fries were good and it was an excellent meal. All the staff were very friendly and you can't beat that cute sign out front.

4.5 rounded up! Hubby was craving a good lobster roll while in Maine and we saw that Shannon's is a great stop for food in Boothbay. This is a food truck/stand on an open field with picnic tables and an indoor dining area. You order your food and they make it fresh, so there's a 10 minute wait. Still worth it not to get food that's been sitting under lamps. The lobster roll was $30 (Market Price) and including a sizable portion of crispy fries. I was trying to watch my calories, so I shared. But the chicken tenders and fried clam orders I saw brought out looked very yummy. What stands out is the professionalism of the staff. They greet everyone kindly and are very helpful. It's clear they appreciate your business. The portion of the lobster roll was on the small side (I realize lobster isn't cheap these days). So it's probably better to get it with a hot dog or another entree or side like onion rings, as long as you aren't watching your weight. There is also a good selection of drinks. We would come back to see what the crab roll is all about (though we're Marylanders and picky about our crab).

We walked to the address listed and found a building that says "For Rent." Has this business moved?

This location isn't in a building. Shannon's is a little shack BY that building...across from it. You have access to Shannon's from the parking lot.

We arrived after a day at the nearby Botanical Garden and were ready for our first Lobstah Roll back in Maine. The Good: *Happy Hour daily 3 - 5 p.m. *Clam Chowder was fine, but I thought it should be thicker for my liking. Carissa thought it was fine fwiw. *Fairly large parking lot that could get filled during busier times of the year, but parking was plentiful upon our visit. *Full bar with everything from spirits to local micro and macro brews on tap. *Amazing views from their dog-friendly outdoor dining. They also have some indoor dining upstairs during inclement weather. The Meh: *Service wasn't friendly at all from the order or pickup booth. In fact, I'd say it was downright sassy-- and not in a good way. When we asked for our lobster buttered and not dressed (i.e., mayo) we got a giant eyeroll from the maître d'. Why she cares is beyond me, since she's not doing much beyond taking orders. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ *The bartender was slightly better service-wise, but she tends to disappear and you have to wait around for her to re-appear. *Fries were whatever, but at least they were cheap. *The Lobster was overcooked and chewy, which is disappointing. However, we will say they were very generous with the Lobster itself, as we both got fairly large pieces of claws. Pro Tip: If two people want a regular Lobster roll, you're better off ordering the large and splitting it. I'm pretty sure the large was at least double the meat of the regular, and it was only $10 more. *The roll they use for the roll didn't really hold up to the moisture, as it was fairly soggy by the time it reached our table. The Ugly: *They really have the gall to charge $2 for a tablespoon of melted butter. As if paying $40-50 for a sandwich isn't enough... 0_o Conclusion: Below avg lobstah roll with great views but grumpy Gus service. Hard pass.

I was already in a foul mood, walking in here set me into straight sensory overload. It's a bar where they sing. I am unable to get inebriated enough to enjoy bars where they sing any longer. Call me miserable, maybe I suppose. In addition to the merry old fella belting it out on the mic, we had the joy of having some drunk guy in a large group behind us try and out sing him without a microphone. He even challenged the old guy singing to a form of a duel. Anyway I was so off, I cannot remember anything about my server at all. Nothing. I do remember almost screaming and running out. I sat there trying not to lose it while my wife had the time of her life. Every song made it worse, everyone else is singing, I am dying. When the guy took a break, guess what, dickhead from the crowd goes up and takes over. Shots helped at this point and the weed is kicking in well at this point. Now I'm hungry... My food was inedible and I'm pretty sure incomplete as well. The worst flatbread in the history of flatbreads. Maybe because their reviews have indicated poor service, we experienced over-service: the floor manager checked in with us three times to see how we were doing in a rather obsequious manner which was very off-putting. Our very friendly server checked in with us 15 times (!) so much so that it was a bit irritating as she kept interrupting our conversation. I think that's about 7-8 times too many check-ins over the course of a 1.5 hour dinner. Now to the food which was all VERY expensive: - popover and butter (complementary) - 4/5 - clam chowder - 3/5, $13 for a cup of chowder is a LOT to pay and while i did enjoy the flavor overall, there was an addition (not mentioned in the chowder description) of a swirl of chili oil on the side of the chowder. I did not mix it into the chowder and realized later when I had a burning sensation across the middle of my tongue that it likely from a line of chili oil. This was not a pleasant sensation and for a while I wondered if I was having an allergic reaction to the chowder. It subsided after about half an hour. I'm not sure why adding chili oil to New England clam chowder is a good thing and it also wasn't listed as an ingredient on the menu. If there had been no chili oil, I would have given the chowder a 5/5 for flavor. - 2025 Claw Down Winner Lobster Bite - 4/5, $18 is a LOT to pay for a tiny silver dollar pancake with some creme and a few bites of lobster on top. Maybe it's the caviar that drives that price but I did not think it was worth the cost (but it did meet my goal of having lobster every day in Maine) - goat cheese and peach salad - 5/5, I loved the tiny little fried goat cheese balls and the ratio of goat cheese to spring lettuce to peaches was good with a light dressing. I would have liked a little more greens and a little less radicchio in the spring lettuce ratio though. - halibut - 4/5, it was a sizable portion of halibut with mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach. Half of the halibut was done well and flavorful, the edges composing the other half though was rather dry and lacking in flavor. Curious. - scallops - 5/5, five scallops which were very flavorful with a celery puree and three halves of a baby carrot. Delicious but minimalist for sure in its size and presentation. this was the best item we had along with the salad. Note 1: we saw all the other tables receive an amuse bouche which looked like a shooter of something but despite all the check-ins from the floor manager and our server we somehow did not receive the amuse bouche. Note 2: It was chilly so we changed our reservation last minute to move into the dining room as opposed to sitting on the deck, which we were very glad about as it did not appear they have any heaters on the deck which we definitely had in the past times we've dined on the deck when it wasn't even as cold as 60 degrees (as it was last night) For the price and over-service (my husband tried to avoid engaging with the floor manager for the third time when we exited the restaurant but we were intercepted), and good but not great food, I'm not sure we'll be making a point to return to Coastal Prime next time we're in town.
