I make a yearly week-long pilgrimage to Maine for my personal Lobsterfest, and always spend a night at Five Islands. It is the quintessential Maine lobster shack. The gorgeous setting on the rugged coastline, a wonderful view of the harbor while you enjoy your meal, college kids who are pleasant and hard working to make and serve your meal(be generous when you tip!), and of course the delicious food. You pay for your lobster by the pound, (mine last night was 2.7), and I ordered it from the lobster shack with a pound of steamers, potatoes and corn. More food than I usually eat, but hey, it's my week to indulge. You eat dockside at long picnic tables, and get to meet and enjoy the company of really nice people with the same passion for great food. Just a wonderful culinary experience, one which I will enjoy every year until I can't.

A great little example of quintessential Maine! The food was outstanding and the setting perfect.

So this place was highly recommended by our Airbnb hosts and we thought let's go. It was at least an hour or longer for us to drive here. When we showed up there was a slow moving line to get I. The door to order. The weather was showing impending doom but we were not deterred. I have had quite a few lobsters in my life but this goes down as some of the largest ones I've ever eaten. You order your lobster by relative poundage and the. They get them and weight them to figure out your total. Everything except for butter is an extra. We ordered 3 2+ lb lobsters and one 1.5 lb lobster. Mine was huge and man the shell was so thick you could not even break it with crackers and we had to beg the staff to bring out something industrial and then it was even a challenge. It was amazing as these come pretty much straight off the boat to table. We just finished as the storms came crashing down. This is due. And sorry ambiance but well worth it b

The views and food makes you looking up real-estate websites for homes. Lobster, ocean breeze and unending views. Best meal I've had in 2025.

Beautiful little spot to sit outside by the harbor and eat fresh-caught lobster. Our friend's parents took us here for dinner, and the wait was looong. But eventually we got our food. It was my first time have lobster, but it wasn't bad at all! And everybody else at the table loves it. I'm afraid I'm just not very used to it, but I think it's definitely worth trying if you're in Maine! The fries on the side and onion rings were delicious. My friend also had a hamburger which was yum! We got ice cream after and it was sooo good. You gotta get a scoop of cannoli ice cream.

We stopped here at the recommendation of a friend and absolutely loved our experience! It's post-Labor Day so only the Lobster shack was open, but that was what we were here for. The line was daunting but it moved fast. Trust the process! Lobsters aren't any fresher than what you get here. There are picnic tables spread out in various areas for you to sit and enjoy your meal. It is one of the most peaceful settings I have experienced. They also have an ice cream shack serving Gifford brand ice cream. Portions are GENEROUS but the ice cream shack is cash only. Super friendly workers. Highly recommend!

I had the somewhat unusual experience of going here as a non-seafood eater. It's a charming little shack with lots of seafood items and a few non-seafood, with lots of tables outside on the dock so you sit right by the water. I went with my friend on a gorgeous Sunday at noon and the line was pretty long but moved quickly. I'd say we stood in line for about 15 minutes and waited another 10 or so for our orders to be called. We managed to find a place to sit for the two of us but it would have been difficult with a bigger group. I ordered the veggie burger and split onion rings with my friend. The veggie burger was ok - the patty itself seemed to be rice-based and was rather flavorless, but I'm not surprised that vegetarian food isn't their forte. It came with chips, though I could have upgraded to fries for $2. The onion rings were amazing - perfectly crispy with a flavorful batter. It was definitely worth the visit for the ambiance and the onion rings, even if the veggie burger was a little lacking.

I have been coming to Five Islands since 2008 and I think the quality was not what I expected at this visit. I just do not believe you are getting a premium lobster roll for the price anymore. The service is counter service and it was fine. The tables have a spectacular view and you might enjoy it just to eat seafood in suck a lovely location. But I can get better lobster rolls at other places.

Fried whole belly clams, fried haddock sandwich, and onion rings
    Nat S.

Beautiful view, clams were great. Fried haddock sandwich was flimsy, and could have used more dredging, before fry. Onion rings were doughy and slightly undercooked in spots(would not order again). I prefer the lighter crunchy fry shack style, which is available at many NE summer spots. The French fries seemed shack made and were better than average, they come with the clams. Would definitely order the clams again, but would forgo the other items and get twin lobsters etc from the steamer hut. We saw a couple people with cans of beer but didn't find anywhere to purchase. Not sure if it's legal to bring your own? That's definitely a question I have before we go back. There are picnic tables all around. I brought water and soda from our car. There is no proper bathroom to wash your hands. So you may want to bring wet wipes if things are messy.

Worth the drive. There was a line when we got there, but it was moving. It's a beautiful scenery while enjoying your meal. Most of all, the best tasting lobsters I have tried in my life! The lobsters in Portland is amazing! But boy these were sweet, juicy and amazingly fresh! The clams and corn were next level. It's a must visit!

Sorry about the half-eaten roll. ;)

Best lobster roll we had in Coastal Maine, hands-down. 'nuff said. Gorgeous views to boot.

Delicious lobsters straight off the boat onto your plate. Outdoor eating only which offered an amazing view of the coastline. Friendly locals served up everything fresh and quick. It was exactly the Maine lobster experience I came looking for and so much more.

Fun authentic lobster joint on the docks. Order fresh seafood, lobsters, even steak and cheese. We ordered a clam cake sandwich, scallops and onion rings. The onion rings were just ok for me, but it was just a personal preference. Heavy batter .. I'd go back in a heartbeat!

Thank goodness that the two places available are exceptional and wonderful: Five Islands Lobster, for excellent lobster in the rough on a scenic deck. But for truly fine dining, it must be BLUE. Had three dinners there recently with 3 different guests. All rave reviews all around. Arriving at the Grey Havens Inn where it is located, doesn't look like much from the road, but as soon as you get on the magnificent wrap around porch of this historic Victorian venue, the view takes your breath away. Checked in at the front desk with the proprietor, Eve, who invited us to have a cocktail on the porch since we were a half hour early, Early by design, sitting on those rockers and enjoying the view with a great cocktail. Once at our table, a great range of offerings, both 'surf' and 'turf'. All the dishes are crafted by a talented chef, very sophisticated menu. My beef tournedos w/ onion jam could not have been more tender, perfectly medium rare to order. Local fresh fish ordered were different each night, all perfectly prepared -- glad that salmon was not overcooked, and slightly rare in the middle. The chowder was the best we'd had anywhere in Maine yet. Excellent wine list, quality bar offerings. The service was personable and attentive. It is a splurge on an otherwise rustic summer holiday, but one I look forward to every year. It's a total experience, from the gorgeous setting to the restaurant itself.

I hope Carlos can reassess the direction of this once delightful restaurant by the sea.

Then the waiters and waitresses recognized me as a regular and greeted me ! It certainly wasn't what I was expecting as I just landed from two very long flights to get here and literally put my suitcases down and came straight to Cozy's !!!! I ended up coming in and sitting outside to eat . My waiter assured me I could get a box for whatever food I didn't finish . We just landed back for the month of July after being here in May and June! We ate here once or twice a week and always recommended to our cousins and friends and people who are new to town ! I do recall our last meal here be fore we left at the end of June , this same hostess ( brunette wit hair up ) being very rude to customers then, as well. Mike and Andre and the waitresses and young bus boys are all so friendly and our family has been coming here for generations! It's a shame that this one person is ruining the vibe.. Unfortunately, I will think twice before wanting to come here again. * If you're looking for food recommendations, I don't think you can go wrong with anything , but the fish tacos are my favorite and I order them every single time I'm here! Well, I am sad to make such a review. This once-terrific…read morerestaurant, which I have been patronizing along with my family for over 40 years, has fallen into some poor hands. Glen and Diane sold the restaurant- and knowing them personally, I totally understand why- but the new owners have turned a reliable and homey place into a poorly-run attempt at a hip joint in a very quiet little beach hamlet. Today some family and I made a dinner reservation. We were sat almost immediately upon arriving, but our waiter was pulling double duty as barkeep, and he did neither job well. My Mom had to go up to the hostess to get place settings, to the bar to get our refills, to another server to check on the status of our order (which had been given to our wait 45mins earlier), and back to the bar to get our check. Our waiter never once checked on us; we didn't see him after he took our order until it was time to pay up. When we voiced our concerns, he was not thrilled to hear that he had done a poor job, and sent Chris, the manager (and possibly owner? Not sure) over to us. Chris did listen attentively and thanked us for our feedback, which is the only reason this review has as many stars as it does. The restaurant had a rather limited menu, and they were out of a lot of stuff. I ordered the fried scallop basket with sweet potato fries. $30 for half a dozen small, overcooked scallops and mushy fries? Not worth it. Their prices are sky high for the region and for the quality and quantity of food served. I know, I know- this sounds awfully like I am clutching my pearls and telling naughty children to get off my lawn. But over the decades of patronage of Spinney's- both the restaurant and the guest house- I had never had a disappointing experience before the new owners got their claws in this beautiful place.
