    Shrimp po' boy

Stopped by here before heading over to the Botanical garden for a quick bite to eat. The shrimp po' boy was a good size and was! Also got a single hot dog with sauerkraut, which was really good because it had snap!

Today we tried the bacon wrapped scallops, onion rings, and a red hot dog with mustard. Onion rings were cooked perfectly, with the onion inside intact and the breading crispy and delicious! The scallops melted in our mouths with the bacon cooked just crisp enough! Offered with honey mustard. The red dog was yummy too and a great deal for $3. All in all delicious and a great little stop for a bite!

Best seafood and grilled food ever. Would love to come back again. Nice little place by the ocean.

    Lobster roll

One of the best lobster roll I've had. No fillers, just a dressing and the fresh lobster on a hot toasted bun. I love it's simplicity and freshness. Burgers are juicy and flavorful. The tomatoes and lettuce are fresh. The buns could've been more toasted but other than that, it is perfect. Fries are good and fresh out of the frier and hotdogs are hotdogs, they are hard to mess with. Love this place and will come back when we go back to maine.

    Best lobster roll in Maine!

They make the best lobster roll in Maine. I saw others claim that in their reviews, and now I see why. I say this after trying Red's (very good, but not as good and came with a 2 hour line), The Clam Shack, and many others. Their lobster roll has the most tender lobster, with just the right amount of mayo, on a warm buttered bun. It was a delight. And their fried scallops were amazing, as were their fried claims.

We ordered the peach and watermelon salad as an appetizer while the watermelon and the dressing were amazing. I swear the peaches were canned. That was very disappointing. One of my dining companions ordered the brandy lobster, which is really an appetizer, but she had it for dinner. It came with gnocchi and was so rich and fabulous. We had ordered a side of bread and I was dipping my bread in the brandy lobster sauce. Another diner ordered the scallops with sweet potato risotto, and I had the lazy lobster that came with risotto. I can't even begin to tell you how good all of them were. The food was excellent. My risotto had corn and was a little toothsome, a little more toothsome than the sweet potato risotto. The scallops came with a mashed avocado and roasted beets. My lazy lobster came with asparagus. It was all fabulous. Our server had a few too many tables, but all in all the service was good. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

While we enjoyed the food we ordered, our server was somewhat rushed, impatient with us, and clearly needed to turn the table FAST. This is a popular restaurant that does not take reservations, so we went early at 5:30 and had no trouble getting a table outside on the third floor deck. Our server arrived and asked for our drink order just as the menus were dropped, and we said we needed a minute. This was the first hint that she had no time for our nonsense! She did return a few minutes later to take our drink order and asked to place our appetizers. Drinks and apps came out lightning fast, clearly pre-made and sitting. The fried oyster appetizer was delicious. For dinner we tried the lobster risotto, which was much much better than I expected given the vibe of the restaurant. When it came time for dessert our waitress asked what we might want after reciting what they offered. We chatted for a moment among ourselves, which was apparently too long, and she huffed off saying she did not have time for this, and would return. Clearly they wanted the table, and for us to leave, so we did. I get it, Boothbay Harbor is busy and filled with tourists. Some of the restaurants (like this one, and their sister spot) don't even try hard with service. We've had some good as well as excellent dinner in this small town. There's no reason for such poor and rushed service. A shame as the food was pretty good. Don't expect to stay here more than 45 minutes or so for your dinner. Given our service experience, I think I'd be hard pressed to come back here.

Prices are fair given the location (you are in Boothbay, after all), and the quality and portions make it feel worth it. We've been in both summer and winter, and it's been a great experience each time. In the colder months, the indoor tables with harbor views feel extra cozy. In the summer, their rooftop deck has one of the best views in town. Service has always been friendly and attentive, even during busy times. Our go-to is the haddock sandwich. They use these massive pieces of fish, and it's always cooked perfectly. We've had it both fried and blackened -- both are excellent!

Maybe because their reviews have indicated poor service, we experienced over-service: the floor manager checked in with us three times to see how we were doing in a rather obsequious manner which was very off-putting. Our very friendly server checked in with us 15 times (!) so much so that it was a bit irritating as she kept interrupting our conversation. I think that's about 7-8 times too many check-ins over the course of a 1.5 hour dinner. Now to the food which was all VERY expensive: - popover and butter (complementary) - 4/5 - clam chowder - 3/5, $13 for a cup of chowder is a LOT to pay and while i did enjoy the flavor overall, there was an addition (not mentioned in the chowder description) of a swirl of chili oil on the side of the chowder. I did not mix it into the chowder and realized later when I had a burning sensation across the middle of my tongue that it likely from a line of chili oil. This was not a pleasant sensation and for a while I wondered if I was having an allergic reaction to the chowder. It subsided after about half an hour. I'm not sure why adding chili oil to New England clam chowder is a good thing and it also wasn't listed as an ingredient on the menu. If there had been no chili oil, I would have given the chowder a 5/5 for flavor. - 2025 Claw Down Winner Lobster Bite - 4/5, $18 is a LOT to pay for a tiny silver dollar pancake with some creme and a few bites of lobster on top. Maybe it's the caviar that drives that price but I did not think it was worth the cost (but it did meet my goal of having lobster every day in Maine) - goat cheese and peach salad - 5/5, I loved the tiny little fried goat cheese balls and the ratio of goat cheese to spring lettuce to peaches was good with a light dressing. I would have liked a little more greens and a little less radicchio in the spring lettuce ratio though. - halibut - 4/5, it was a sizable portion of halibut with mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach. Half of the halibut was done well and flavorful, the edges composing the other half though was rather dry and lacking in flavor. Curious. - scallops - 5/5, five scallops which were very flavorful with a celery puree and three halves of a baby carrot. Delicious but minimalist for sure in its size and presentation. this was the best item we had along with the salad. Note 1: we saw all the other tables receive an amuse bouche which looked like a shooter of something but despite all the check-ins from the floor manager and our server we somehow did not receive the amuse bouche. Note 2: It was chilly so we changed our reservation last minute to move into the dining room as opposed to sitting on the deck, which we were very glad about as it did not appear they have any heaters on the deck which we definitely had in the past times we've dined on the deck when it wasn't even as cold as 60 degrees (as it was last night) For the price and over-service (my husband tried to avoid engaging with the floor manager for the third time when we exited the restaurant but we were intercepted), and good but not great food, I'm not sure we'll be making a point to return to Coastal Prime next time we're in town.

All of the food we…read moreordered was very tasty, our server couldn't have been better (thanks Calli) and the atmosphere and vibe was perfect for an evening at the harbor. Let's quickly get down to the good specifics. The raw oyster appetizer was just right for us: fresh, briny, large oysters (mere points, $36). The lobster bisque was thick, lots of lobster pieces ($12). The clam chowder not quite heavy enough for our preference but good and filled with of clams. Our added bonus was the yummy spinach and artichoke dip ($17). The 1 1/2 pound lobster for dinner ($39) was delicious; tasted as if hauled aboard only a few hours ago. Add in a plate of fried scallops ($34) and a Thai crunch bowl ($19) and we were thoroughly and completely satisfied. Oh yeah, a few good beers, too. Calli kept our drinks refilled and was a constant model of efficiency and good humor. The restaurant has a patio and pretty open dining inside right on the harbor.
