We had a wonderful dining experience here and recommend this restaurant highly. All of the food we ordered was very tasty, our server couldn't have been better (thanks Calli) and the atmosphere and vibe was perfect for an evening at the harbor. Let's quickly get down to the good specifics. The raw oyster appetizer was just right for us: fresh, briny, large oysters (mere points, $36). The lobster bisque was thick, lots of lobster pieces ($12). The clam chowder not quite heavy enough for our preference but good and filled with of clams. Our added bonus was the yummy spinach and artichoke dip ($17). The 1 1/2 pound lobster for dinner ($39) was delicious; tasted as if hauled aboard only a few hours ago. Add in a plate of fried scallops ($34) and a Thai crunch bowl ($19) and we were thoroughly and completely satisfied. Oh yeah, a few good beers, too. Calli kept our drinks refilled and was a constant model of efficiency and good humor. The restaurant has a patio and pretty open dining inside right on the harbor. Came here on a Sunday at noon for a bite. They have a nice beer selection, and a beautiful porch outside. However, it was full so we ate inside. We ordered the lobster bisque , haddock bites, I had a sandwich, the fish tacos, and the fried clam bellies. The lobster bisque was OK not the best I've ever had. The haddock bites were fried crispy and very tender. The taco dish had two tacos with maybe chipotle mayo, but not very spicy quite good. The fried clams were amazing. They could have given us more of them, but they were very tender and large not just a little strips but the whole clam. They had a sandwich was Massive. There was a choice between blackened, fried or grilled, and my dining companion got the blackened. She said it was quite good. It is a real piece of fish. Hungry after a whale watch trip, we saw this place and since we have had enough seafood and wanted something else, this menu worked. Took awhile to attract a server, but once they came, service was good. The beer menu is extensive and I found a brown ale which was good. The menu has lots of good choices, and my husband and I settled on splitting the cheesesteak with fries. Food came very fast and was nice and hot. The bread was fresh and the meat was tender. Love this place with a very friendly service. Chowder was so good, and Boothbay lobster dinner was exceptionally prepared. Oysters were okay, shrimps were perfect. I come here all the time they make one of the best painkillers I've ever had and the tuna crispy rice is to die for. Sometimes they are busy, but they are always nice and take the time to tell you about the specials. I can highly recommend this place and have been at least five times this summer already. read more

Food: exactly as expected for a coastal fried food eatery. It was much better eating in than our takeout experience a few years ago. The batter on the haddock bites was flavorful and they were just right. The cole slaw tasted a bit different and the flavor grew in me - I couldn't stop eating. Ambiance: we sat outside and enjoyed beautiful views overlooking the harbor. On a beautiful day there were lots of happy customers enjoying food and drinks around us. Service: service was great. They weren't filling the tables because they didn't want to overwhelm the kitchen staff and the servers seem to split tables in various areas which makes it tough to get consistent and speedy service. Mcseagulls is my new favorite restaurant in the Harbor! Major upgrades have been done to the food, drink menu and interior recently and everything is spectacular! Lexi the host is so kind and gives the perfect first impression to the visit. Tyler behind the bar is so knowledgeable about everything food beverage and he really knows how to take the dining experience to the next level. The cheesesteak is one of the best I've ever had and the Tuna Crispy Rice is another major favorite. This restaurant is perfect for lunch or dinner because the menu has a perfect level of variety. It was so good and we were staying so close we are there a couple of times. The fried scallops were the best I've ever had. They were very lightly breaded and flavorful. Seated outside immediately on a Friday around 2 pm. Beautiful view. Service was attentive. Clam chowder, haddock bites, and bacon wrapped scallops appetizers were very delicious. Fish tacos were wonderful and filling. Seared scallops with risotto was a bit disappointing. The 5 scallops were delicious and cooked perfectly but the whole kernel corn was not a good texture in the risotto. It should have been puréed to complement the creamy texture of the risotto. We started our mid-afternoon snack with the Blood Orange Bellini and the Blueberry Mule. Both perfect to sip on the outside deck while watching the boats, birds, and other couples. The Scollop Ceviche was sublime. It's a small dish, even for one person, but I highly recommend it for a couple to share. The portion on each scallop shell is enough to tantalize the tastebuds. We split the Crab Cavatelli, which we discovered is a delicious pasta shape that pairs perfectly with the Romesco sauce, which we also learned is a smooth sauce made from red bell pepper with tomato. Now, add to this "crispy capers" and we were at a loss to in what this entree was taste like. Well, it's yet another culinary revelation from Chef Dushuttle that needs to be savored by the masses visiting Boothbay Harbor this summer. A reliable restaurant on the harbor. We came with family for a Sunday lunch. Some of the other spots had brunch-only menus and we were happy to have a regular menu. Our party got Fish Tacos, Haddock Bites, Blackened Haddock Sandwich, and Fried Whole Clams (all in photos below). Of the four entrees, by far the best (and the best value) was the Blackened Haddock Sandwich. It had a generous portion of fish and the seasoning brought out the best in the fish. The battered French fries were also a hit with our group... The service was exceptional. First timer at Mcseagulls !! What a great place to stop into. We came in right as they opened and we're given a choice of where to sit. We choose the covered deck with a bit of sunshine coming down onto the table. Located right in boothbay harbor near pier 7, this place is really cool. A great location, and for where it's at, good prices. We started with an app of spin dip, that was huge and delicious. The breadcrumb too was toasted to perfection. The insides were juicy and melty, just perfect. The smash burgers were to die for. They had an amazingly crunchy toasted buttered bun. They had two slices of American cheese, bacon jam and onion crisps. I don't think I've ever had a better burger. The servers seemed to be hosts and bartenders as well. The greater customers at the door and then took order at tables and came to and fro with bar beverages. They were on top of it. The interior was very beautifully done in light oceans tones, and decor. This place is a must, even if you're not waited on by Paul Lepage!! read more

We had a great experience at Mcseagulls. We looked at reviews and figured, it's just mediocre, but we are hungry so let's try it. We went in and were seated right away. We had a great view from the deck of the water. Server was very friendly and checked up on us often. When the food came out we were happily surprised. My chicken sandwich was very moist and delicious. A lot of places over cook the chicken so it's dried out. My husband said his haddock sandwich was delicious. It looks like they get all of their seafood as local as they can. This is not a fancy place, but if you are looking for a place to sit by the water and have good pub/bar and grill food. We dined at McSeagull's three days in a row. It's not fancy but it's clean and neat and the location is great (within walking distance from our hotel)! *** Night #1: $100.44 + $8.00 tip (she's lucky she received a tip at all!) ***We chose to wait for a "direct waterfront" table instead of being seated elsewhere immediately. We were quoted a 30 minute wait and waited about 40 minutes. The host was warm and friendly and he made us feel welcome as we waited and were seated. The view was nice! **Our server, Cortney M., was a huge disappointment.** No smile, no friendliness, just a cold stare. We waited quite a while for her to even come to our table and bring water. We waited quite a while for our order to be taken (lobster roll, fisherman's platter (haddock, scallops, whole belly clams & shrimp), draft beer). My husband wanted another beer with his dinner (it was a hot night!) but Cortney never came back so he did not get one. I wanted more tartar sauce and napkins, but again she never came back so I didn't get any and finished my seafood without). My husband's lobster roll was good... served with hot butter and had a good amount of lobster. My fisherman's platter was a letdown... the haddock was amazing but the whole belly clam strips were so tough I could not chew them. There were only 4 tiny scallops and 12+ tiny, flavorless shrimp. Pretty bad considering my dinner cost over $42! We waited a long time for Cortney to return to clear away our plates & take a dessert order, but she never did. To our amazement Cortney returned, did not ask if we wanted dessert and just put the check down on the table! We felt so unwelcome! There was no excuse for this, it was almost 8pm, the "dinner crowd" had already died down & there were plenty of open tables. We told her we wanted to order dessert and could see her jaw tighten as she asked what we wanted. We ordered blueberry pie and she nodded curtly and walked away. We waited a long time for the pie to arrive... so long we wondered if Cortney forgot to put the order in. Eventually it arrived and it was nothing to write home about. We regretted wasting the time to order/receive it. Cortney needs to be retrained or not work in a customer-service related job. We said nothing but our tip reflected her poor service. Rude & inhospitable! *** Night #2 *** $90.72 + $15.00 tip Because the haddock in my seafood combo was so good, we decided to return to McSeagull's the following night. We asked for a table in the outside dining area where we had been seated the previous night and also asked not to have Cortney M. as our server. There was a man standing near the hostess who we later learned was the manager. Our hostess assured us that was Cortney M.'s night off and we were seated in a nice table, not direct waterfront, but still in the same room and we were greeted immediately by our server, David S. who was warm, welcoming and took great care of us the entire time. We both ordered fish n chips, 2 clam chowders, beer and water with lemon. Once again the fried haddock was amazing and the chowder was chock full of flavor... one of the best I've ever had! David and all the support staff were fun and engaging and we felt welcome and happy. *** On our way out, the man who had earlier been standing near the hostess asked us why we did not want Cortney M. as a server. I asked if he was the manager (he was) and my husband & I kindly explained how rude & awful Cortney M. was. He knew she was a problem, because he said "Yeah, she can be like that". He apologized but apparently he cared more about gathering info on his staff and not us. No offers of compensation were made, not even the next night when he saw that we had returned for a third night in a row, regardless of Cortney's horrible service! *** *** Night #3. *** $102.60 + $20.00 tip Returning to McSeagull's on day three was a testament to lobster roll my husband had on day one and the service we received on day two. It was our last night in Boothbay Harbor & we wanted good lobster rolls (even though they cost $36.00 each). The host, the same friendly gent that had been so kind on day one (sorry, didn't catch his name & it's not on the receipts, like the others) seated us in the outside dining area at a nice table. Our server, Ilinca P., was extremely attentive and very friendly! We ordered two lobster rolls with hot butter, clam chowder, beer and water with lemon. Once again the lobster rolls and chowder were quite good! We had a great dinner and left a commensurate tip for great service. SUMMARY: Some food is great, other food is not (it's hit or miss) and it's overpriced. The view is nice & the location is great if you're staying at Fisherman's Wharf Inn, as we were, BUT we will not be returning. We had comparable food and an excellent view, outdoors, at Kaler's & the manager needs to treat his customers better, especially when they RETURN after HORRIBLE SERVICE! read more

We were wandering all day around the harbor and not much was open yet, but we stumbled upon Mcseagulls. they have a whole deck, inside restaurant and bar and it looks like there's an outside bar as well in the warmer times. we were greeted with a friendly host and they had us seated over by the window with a great view of the water. my fiancé ordered the lobster roll and I ordered the seared scallops.. both of which were amazing. the scallops were fresh and meaty, and the lobster roll has a good amount of lobster meat piled into the toasted bun. both the scallops and lobster are locally caught and fresh. everything from service to the food was amazing. definitely recommend!! read more

My boyfriend and I ate here this week on a beautiful sunny tuesday afternoon in Boothbay Harbor. We sat right on the water for a lovely view and atmosphere. We started with some drinks and while they tasted good, they good have been a bit stronger. To start we had the ahi tuna app and it was so incredibly good. It was so fresh and the lava sauce on top made it percect. For the main course we shared the fishermans platter which the waitress told us was plenty for two, and it certainly was. It had fried clams, haddock, shrimp and scallops. It was all amazing, but the scallops were hands down the best! This is a great spot if you want some seafood on the water! read more

We have not been here in over 30 years, so ownership has changed, decor has changed but we had a fabulous meal! We sat out on the patio with heat...perfect for this early fall evening. The service was fantastic and the food was amazing. I had the seared scallops- they were perfectly cooked served with a delicious corn and bacon risotto. My husband had fried shrimp with more food than he could eat. And, we are in Maine...so a piece of blueberry pie seemed in order. It was perfect as well. Update May 2025: McSeagull's continues to be excellent. Something as simple as a haddock sandwich is turned into a great experience: tender, flaky haddock on a warm soft bun, with just the right amount of seasoning. And they served me that sandwich on a cold, rainy weeknight in early May before the season really gets going. Obviously they take great care about every dish that leaves the kitchen, any time of the year. My cocktail was also properly made (just as important as the food). I will be back. read more

The food and service here was amazing. So much so we came back to sit in Jackie's section and have a cocktail. My hubs had the fried haddock sandwich and I had the salmon over goat cheese polenta. Both were huge portions and amazing! As a bonus we sat looking out at the harbor. When we returned, our view was not as great, but my McSeagull's 75 was damn good. My hubs had a Blueberry Bourbon Smash. Equally good. Boothbay is a great place and the Harbor is fun for a day. I'd recommend McSeagulls. read more

A rare sunny afternoon in mid June found us on the covered porch of this busy seafood establishment. The 4 of us were like minded and ordered Tacos, Fish for 3 and 1 brisket. My husband was the odd man out enjoying the savory brisket Tacos enlivened with a squeeze of lime. My mil went for fried fish as she was uncertain of the spice level of blackened fish. No complaints from her but she did note the sauce had a little zing. My fil and I had the blackened fish. Oooh, yummm, spices smoothed out with avocado, and perked up with pickled onion and a slightly Spicy aioli on a tortilla crisped on the grill. Crisp french fries along side...onion rings with a crust that shattered they were so crisp. Server was helpful and personable. Drinks re-filled promptly. Fog rolled in briefly as if scripted.
