SHUTTY'S BATH MAINE HOMEMADE ONION RINGS
    Beth C.

This is my 2nd Yelp review of Shutty's. Shutty's simply offers the best, freshest, affordable seafood options in the Midcoast Maine area. Handcut and homemade are the operative words. From chowders and appetizers to baskets and platters of delicious seafood, you will find it at Shutty's. One of my favorites is the haddock basket. 10-11 oz. of fresh, non greasy, lightly breaded haddock "nuggets" with a choice of handcut fries or homemade onion rings and homemade Cole slaw. SCRUMPTIOUS!! Don't sleep on Shutty's, this fish shack is the real deal!!! Highly recommend!!

A true authentic Maine lobster roll experience. This shabby little truck packs a punch and serves great food that only the locals know about. There's some picnic tables to sit by the side of the road or you can sit in your car. It takes a bit for the food - this is *not* fast food. If you're in a rush I suggest ordering ahead!

YUM! We had a cup of clam chowder, a combo of clams and scallops with a side of onion rings! So delicious!

In New York - it's "Scaalaps" in New England it's "Sculullops" - either vernacular you choose - or choose to pronounce it correctly or not - what's your take on their taste? I just recently asked myself that, because it's a question I've asked myself before. Im feeling that I should identify better with them as they were my grandmother's favorite seafood - I can't attest to the sophistication of her palate but I trust it was true to order on account of - so I ordered them. I remember reading about the difference between Sea Scallops and Bay Scallops - Bays are smaller & more tender - but I have to wonder - is eight (8) scallops worth $38.00? for a Large Size. People love to wrap them in bacon - it definitely looks cool and is a fun treat for dinner parties or Sunday football when they're usually rubbery due to freezer to overcooking, but they're fun even on leftover holiday paper plates. We've all had them via garlic and butter which was Granny's get down. Shuttys deep fried them in the lightest breading I've had on fruits from the sea - an improper fork poke caused a peeling off affect like a slightly warming tootsie roll from it's waxed wrapper but without the stick. They're is a clam & oyster taste within them combined with a crab and lobster sweetness - delicate and buttery with no fishy smell. The part we eat is the abductor mussels that hold the shells together. The large unstable onion rings portion was set in it's own and clam shell container -they were sticking together which is terribly annoying and tasted a bit undercooked. These weren't Mr. Traditional onion rings in batter - I believe it was a panko tempura flour mix - single dredge, maybe a little milk --- but these onion rings could have been so much better.

No wait! Plenty of seating. Food was great, and staff is super friendly. I would definitely go again.

Delicious lobster roll and the best onion rings!! First time here after wanting to try this spot for years! Loved it, very tasty lobster roll and the onion rings were amazing! I will definitely return here!! I highly recommend for a quick bite to eat!

Seafood Chowder was a delight. Highly recommend

I stopped by Schutty's on my last day in Maine. We ordered seafood chowder which was one of my favorite things I had while in Maine. The flavor was on point. A perfect meld of flavors without over powering the flavor of the individual seafood. It was also a lovely collection of seafood. Not just white fish. We also had the Haddock Reuben which was good but a little on the juicy side. I don't like it when the bread is soggy only a few bites in. The fish basket was a delight, crispy on the outside moist and tender fish. And here comes my one complaint. The fries and onion rings were very greasy and soggy. I am a crisp fries girl. The service was quick and friendly and the crew was happy to grill scallops for me, which was not on the menu. All the food was a delight (Except the fries) and no fishy flavor.

Blackened scallop taco , homemade chips and Baja sauce.

This place came highly recommended by a local . It was a beautiful day and the truck was fairly busy . Lots of picnic tables a couple of benches in the shade . We got ours to go so we could eat in the park. The person who took our order was vey engaged and very friendly. So many items to choose from it was hard to decide . We ended up with onion ring, haddock bites and a blacken scallop taco with Asian slaw. It came with homemade chips and Baja sauce the sauce was ok. A woman in front of us brought her rings back as she said they were too salty. They were very accommodating and gave her a replacement with less salt , after over hearing the encounter we ordered our food all lightly salted, which was an excellent decision. You can always add more but it is hard to take it away. We did not need to add any additional salt. The onion rings are delicious sweet and crispy and a large portion. The haddock bites were some of the best I have had, crispy, sweet and not greasy at all. Large pieces of haddock bigger than a nugget. The scallops were perfectly cooked large scallops with a great flavor there were 3 scallops on each taco. The slaw was ok would have like it if the cabbage slices where a little thinner and just a bit more flavor and a bit More slaw on the taco. All I all it was a great stop and we will return to try some of the other items , deep fried fiddleheads and the calamari as well as the haddock Ruben lots of specials as well.

My wife and I are on a road trip to Canada and while in Maine, decided to find a lobster roll. After several restaurants had long waits, I found Schutty's food truck in Bath. We had the lobster roll, haddock sandwich and the homemade onion rings. The lobster roll was tasty and filled with a good amount of lobster. The fried haddock sandwich was excellent and a true bargain. The fish was thick and hung over the bun. The onion rings are hand battered and fried with a light crust that compliments and enhances the sweet flavor of the onions. We also had the homemade potato chips and they were very crisp and good. After reading the reviews on Yelp! we made a 20 minute detour out of our way to get to Schutty's and were very glad we did!

Have been wanting to try this place for awhile now based on the reviews and word of mouth. It was a beautiful day today so I decided to take my wife here for lunch. I am really sorry to say that my wife and I were not impressed. Pros: The service was super friendly and quick. The onions rings were outstanding.... perfectly done. Cons: My wife's scallops were overcooked.... very dark brown. The coating was also way too salty. My lobster roll was quite bland and even more upsetting was the fact that it was deceptive. My first impression was that it was a bit on the small size for $22 but I was OK with it until I bit into it. Hidden under the meat was shredded iceberg lettuce which made the actual amount of meat even less. I am aware that there are all kinds of debates about how a lobster roll should be done, but in my opinion lettuce, especially iceberg, is unforgivable. The seafood chowder was way too thick and despite all of the seafood that was advertised as being in it, I only found a few small shrimp and a piece of a scallop. The bill was nearly $60 for 6 overcooked scallops, a deceptively small lobster roll, small cup of chowder and onion rings. I know good seafood is expensive and I am more than willing to pay the price but this meal left us disappointed. There are so many good seafood shacks around us so I don't think we will be coming back.

    Great meal and view tonight!

Great Captain's platter tonight! Shaun's crew was up to their usual standards! Everything was perfectly cooked. The fries were delicious. It was hard at times to hear the names being called iver the rain!

Fresh, delicious seafood with some creative touches. For example, they add fresh fiddleheads to their menu in the spring.
