Friendly staff, recommended the mix seafood, which comes in an assortment of fried seafood of calamari, shrimp, scallop, fish, also got the regular lobster and lobster stew 1. Mix seafood- The plate was huge, lots of fried calamari, couple pieces of fish, tiny shrimp, about 4-5 scallops. The breading/ batter was really good. the scallop was so good, I can order Scallop by themselves next time. 2. Regular lobster roll- 8oz of fresh tasty lobster, I think I prefer my lobster to be hot rather than cold. 3. Lobster stew- wow the lobster stew was delicious, this was my favorite, the brother was buttery, creamy, fresh tasty chunks of lobster. This might be the best Lobster stew I've ever had. I'm always looking for gluten free fried seafood, and Sea Basket did not disappoint. We did have to ask a couple times though, and then talk to the manager, as the front of the house was sure "no one had gotten sick" but couldn't confirm that the fryers were clean. Don't worry, they are! She just wasn't aware of that. So safe gluten free fried seafood!! We got the fried clams and the fried shrimp. The portions were huge and they tasted amazing. Friendly gal greeted us! We enjoyed crab rolls, haddock chowder and onion rings with an ice cold Allegash beer. The place is clean and comfortable. The service is quick and friendly. The crab rolls are loaded with fresh meat. The onion rings are real onions and light. And the haddock chowder is the real deal- thin creamy broth with a butter sheen on top. We went here for the time today and found it to be OK but very inconsistent even within the same dish. The good: The staff was very friendly and helpful. The haddock chowder was loaded with fish and quite good. The fried shrimp was small but tasty. The portion size was decent but the dinner roll hidden under the fries did seem a bit cheeky since there was also a side of rolls. The bad: The fried haddock was inconsistent with some extremely dry pieces. The clams ranged in size from small to HUGE - the small and mediums were good but the large were not appealing. The onion rings and fries were quite dry too. We may go back again for chowder but will most likely not do the fried food again. While some was good, we left about 1/2 uneaten, which we never do. read more

This was a cute side of the road restaurant (a bit too big to call "road side shack") that even offers gluten free fried seafood!! They have a lot of outside (and inside) tables. The staff wasn't super knowledgeable in knowing they had gluten free but the management was quite confident on their separation and they kept to their word! 2nd time having Sea Basket was better than the first. It was a better choice to dine in rather than get take out to avoid things getting soggy or losing it's crispiness. Shared a mixed seafood platter, half pound lobster on a long roll (bigger than a hot dog bun) and bowl of seafood stew. It is pricier but I felt it was worth the price for the high quality food. The seafood baskets are huge, lobster roll loaded, and the stew has large chunks of lobster meat. I prefer the original fried breading over the spicy. Service was fairly quick. We've passed by this place a few times, and decided to stop today--based on reviews. I'll start by saying that we didn't know it was basically a fast-food restaurant. Okay, no problem. The two people at the counter were welcoming, and couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating. It was also very clean and tidy. Now for the bummer. I wanted the traditional chicken filet sandwich, but they were out of filets. (I'm thinking now that they were probably food-service grade, anyway.) I opted for the fried shrimp salad, based on the suggestion of one of the counter workers, who said that the Maine shrimp were amazing. I chose the "Golden Italian" dressing. Well, turns out that the dressing was mediocre food-service Ken's--not homemade. The salad had a ton of greens, but was only adorned with 4 grape tomatoes, about 6 pieces of red pepper, one salty pickled banana pepper and VERY strong purple (some call them red) onion slices. On top, about 20 fried shrimp. Knowing that they were Maine shrimp, I expected them to be small. However, not only were they small, they were almost non-existent in the HEAVY batter. I'd say that the ratio of batter to shrimp was 3/4 to 1/4. I could barely discern any shrimp flavor. Even upon removing excess batter, there were hardly any pieces of shrimp. Most of the salad ended up in the trash. . Needless to say, I left hungry and disappointed. I don't know--people rave about this place. Perhaps I picked the wrong thing. I guess that maybe the fried clams or fish would've been better. But if they are as heavily battered, I wouldn't have been any more pleased. Sorry, Sea Basket. I had high hopes. read more

Went to the Sea Basket for the first time recently. The counter service was extremely friendly and the food came out quickly. And the portions were huge! I ordered the fried scallop jumbo platter. Sea Baset is a traditional "chippy" as they'd say in the UK. Fried seafood and fries are the specialty. The difference is that they don't cheap out on the oil temperature! Most greasy fried goods is greasy because the fryer oil is lower than the ideal temperature. Sea Basket actually keeps the temperature up where it should be which results in crispier food that has much less absorbed oil. It's in the "Wiscasset strip" so not the most picturesque location, but for a fried seafood joint, I think it's the best around. Do yourself a favor if you're driving north. Skip Red's Traffic mess and get some great fish & chips. Get a lobster roll at any place other than Red's and you'll probably get more for your money and the lobster won't be frozen. read more

My daughter went to go use the women's bathroom and found it to be occupied. While she was waiting she told me it sounded like someone was puking and when they came out they went into the "employees only" door. Not only were the management forcing this poor girl to work, but also served me rotten and bleach tasting scallops. The food was rotten and I've had problems before with the food being god awful but the service being lack luster as well with cooks belittling employees, to even customers over the phone! They tasted as though they were put into the fryer frozen, then not cooked long enough, so they were totally mushy on the inside. But that wasn't the worst part. They seemed to be totally devoid of clams! Nothing but greasy, mushy, half-fried batter. I've had store-bought clam cakes that were about a million times better. I literally could not power through these. I managed to sort of eat about a quarter of one, and by the time I did, I was so grossed out, that I had zero appetite for the pretty decent fries. It pains me to say this after coming here for 30 years. Yesterday's meal which I've ordered numerous times over the years was disappointing to say the least. My dining companion felt the exact same way. This used to be THE place for delicious and authentic fried seafood. I was appalled at the "sea" scallops yesterday which were not sea scallops at all. There were only 4 tiny scallops and the shrimp had zero flavor. Now it's not my intention at all to disparage this place. I'm a Mainer and I know how challenging the times are but with that said a Mainer is not going to find this meal satisfying at all. At almost $30 I will think twice before returning this summer. A 5 minute drive from where I was working made Sea Basket very convenient for me to go during lunch or right after work for dinner. I had high hopes for this place and tried it 3 times hoping it would get better for me. Their lobster roll was served with a mound of sweet lobster but on a buttery subroll instead of a grilled hotdog bun and came in around $15. There lobster stew for $10 and easily the best thing I had here was delightfully creamy and I was practically punched in the face with lobster upon taking my first bite. The clam roll came on a round roll with a ton of clams for $10. I just wish they gave me more homemade tartar sauce on it. The atmosphere proved a minimal attempt at decoration with a couple little seafood related chachkies on the walls and ordinary booth tables (some of which were not wiped down). Overall it is a little dive seafood place with mostly fried items. I wish they had a few other options. It would also help if the people behind the counter didn't seem so unhappy when you came in. This was probably the only place during my time in Maine where I didn't feel as though everyone was extremely friendly. The seafood is simply not what it use to be for the prices that you pay. This particular day I had seafood basket well needless to say I had more french fries then I had seafood in my basket, I've never seen so many french fries in my life and what a waste because I threw all of them away the french fries were overcooked as well being all different colors from light to dark brown. I almost think they were reused fries.The fish in the basket was dry and overcooked . I know the difference between haddock and cod . I myself work in the restaurant business and I could tell right away even the flavor was off. It should be haddock not cod. The scallops were totally a different color than the rest of the seafood. I then proceeded to eat one which was moist enough, but it tasted like salt .They must cook the scallops a different way because in the past when I've ordered a seafood basket they've always were delivered the same color golden brown. They were a complete different color than the rest of the fried seafood I bit into one and they surely are moist enough, but they were as salty as could be the Shrimp was barely noticeable the fried clams I think i got five of them in this basket a dried out dinner roll buried into the bottom with the french fries with the seafood on top. A fountain soda, was 3 dollars for a medium cup the total of the basket was 36 dollars this place back in its day i would crave the seafood here at the Sea basket no longer the same the new owners took over and it just hasn't been the same at all. That particular day it was very warm out close to 90° so I chose to eat in the dining room. No air-conditioning was on. I almost asked the girl that was working in the dining room. Is something wrong with the air conditioner, it was hot in the dining room then awful music playing it was loud and annoying.
