This is/was the third d time. First order, wasn't even BBQ. They were red, like brushed. No sauce. Secondly, they were overcooked but the third time was yesterday. Unfortunately, it fell flat on the biggest part, flavor. The peanut butter milkshake was very good. The price and thickness was great. I'd give the place another try just for the milkshakes. I ordered a clam roll with onion rings. The fry batter looked good and was crispy, but it was tasteless. There didn't seem to be any salt or spice in the batter. I nailed it with salt and pepper, it really didn't help. The batter was also grainy at times reminding me of sand. I would try again, but likely do a burger or fried chicken. Recent visit. I ordered the grilled Haddock sandwich with tarter, lettuce and tomato. My son got the Philly cheesesteak. My sandwich had a lot of tarter and the haddock wasn't even warm . It was hard to eat and kept falling out of the sandwich. The fish was not fresh it had been frozen and it tasted watery. Probably would have been better fried but could have at least been warm. My son loved his Philly cheesesteak. It was hot and he said it was better than what he had in Pennsylvania. Our order was to go and no napkins in the bag. I've had a few meals at the Frye House and I thought I should leave a review. It's fast food and in that genre it's stellar! The food is well cooked, flavorful and looks good too! The staff is warm and pleasant and the food is served quickly for being made as it is ordered. There are no burgers sitting around waiting to be purchased. The chicken, fish, onion rings and mushrooms are incredibly good. The cheeseburgers are to die for. The burgers are cooked well and dressed as you request. The buns were light and didn't have that squashed look that so many burgers have. You can dine in but take out seems to be the norm. The dinning area is clean and pleasant. The price is very fair considering how expensive most restaurants are currently getting. I certainly intend to repeat my business at the Frye House. read more

A great place for quick call in to pick up. Lunch for 4 was ready when we arrived & our friend that recommended was greeted by name on arrival by several of the staff. I was so excited to try this place after having a hard day. I ordered fried scallops and a beverage. The person taking my order had perfected the "Gen z stare" but wasn't rude. The scallops seemed okay - lovely golden brown. They tasted off in an odd chemical way, and they were weirdly mushy - maybe undercooked? Maybe re-frozen? Scallops are my favorite, and I left them uneaten after trying a few and finding them so unappealing. The beverage was fine. I might try again sometime but probably not soon. Stopped by for first time last week and was disappointed. Ordered a cheeseburger and wife had the fried clam basket. Food taste was very decent. Disappointment in the counter service, gal working mumbled and barely said hello. Then as we sat awaiting the food, I watched the gentleman bagging and prepping the food on the trays sampling pieces of food and eating while packaging. Initially I thought he was in a break but then watched him sample almost every meal that he packaged. Huge turn off. No gloves, no hand washing and picking food off of orders with fingers and stuffing his mouth then continuing. This was on 5-24 around 130pm. My daughter raves about the wings here so I thought I'd give them a try. Keep in mind, right now the Nation is in the grips of the COVID-19 pandemic, so they had curbside and take out service only (yay! I didn't have to cook or leave the car). We ordered a pound of teriyaki wings and waited in the car as they were being prepared. After a bit they were delivered to us curbside by a friendly little chap whom I assume was the owners son. He was even kind enough to run back in for an ice water for me. It was worth the wait! The one pound of wings was the perfect portion for my daughter and I to share. I think we got about 8 nice plump meaty wings fries to crunchy perfection and glazed with their sweet, sticky, tangy teriyaki sauce. Not too gooey but not too stingy either. The wings were juicy and perfectly fried they had that satisfying crunch when you bit in and seasoned perfectly. They came with a cool refreshing ranch dressing on the side. You're gonna lick your fingers and wish you ordered more. Pandemic or not this is a kick-ass wing joint! I highly recommend. I'm going back to try all their wing varieties. read more

I read a review about the burgers taking (one) back in time and so...off we went...I had a cheeseburger and asked for all the toppings. What I got was a screen turned so toward me so I could choose from the huge listing of options. I decided on grilled onions mushrooms, tomato... my other half chose a Philly cheese steak, onion rings and we both ordered shakes. Now, originally from Boston ( I always say up here don't hold that against me lol) a milk shake doesn't have ice cream. A frappe does. And so does a cabinet if one is from Rhode Island. (?) Our shakes arrived (with ice cream) and our sandwiches a mere minute after. The entire meal was excellent! The whole time we spent there, although close to closing time, the counter and grill were hopping to fill call in orders. The service was great; the signs are funny and well done! Did it take me back in memories to when (my) dad would take off his suit coat, tuck his tie into his shirt and dig into his burger? Yes, a little. Everything was good but the stew was AMAZING. Sometimes I find stews to be bland- it's like a missed alley-oop- the seafood is there, you have cream, but some places just don't season it well and it's so disappointing. Not at the Frye House! It was well season and the cream base had a good seafood flavor to it, not to mention HUGE chunks of lobster, scallops, shrimp and haddock. Great food and excellent service at a good price. About six months ago, I ordered a cheeseburger for the first time at the Frye House. That first bite transported me back to 1965, when my sister would save her lunch money to buy a hamburger after school and split it with me. I never thought I could get that quality again. The brioche bun was rich and tender, the hamburger meat was juicy (and actually hot!), and the toppings were crisp and cold. It's so good. I have introduced a few people to Frye House's food and each one was pleasantly surprised. I'm told that their haddock chowder is incredible. We just finished lunch at the Frye House, a casual restaurant. We ordered a hamburger, clam roll, onion rings, fries and drinks. The food was cooked to order and excellent. The clams were amazingly sweet and light - without the slightest hint of sand or odor. The burger and fries were hot, fresh, and very good. The onion rings were light and crispy. You can tell that the small restaurant was amazingly clean the moment you walked in the door because it smelled fresh and was neat and orderly. The service was friendly and professional. Their seafood is all good too. No complaints about the fries or onion rings but I have to say I prefer Bolley's onion rings. Apparently it's a family business and they do have some kids helping out. The kid who took our order seemed quite competent at his job and happy to be there as well. The atmosphere is very casual, almost cafeteria-like. I have been unable to find a good place for fried seafood in the Augusta area since the demise of Brownie's , (yes it's been a long time!). I eat at places that I don't really enjoy because there are no good options. A friend told me about Frye House and I wish I had known about it sooner. It's really fantastic. Menu and price rivals Red Barn but food quality is significantly better. Portions are extremely generous. Some of the best scallops I have ever had. Mixed seafood was great but the haddock was a bit dry, seemingly due to the small size of each piece versus cooking time. Onion rings were also very good. Staff very pleasant, attentive and professional. Looking forward to my next visit to try other menu choices. I will never, ever eat at that "Red" restaurant again because it's convenient. I'll drive the extra miles to enjoy higher quality, better tasting food. read more
