Great place, view from outside deck was nice and the wait staff were very friendly. The portions are perfect and the prices are reasonable. Some interesting drink options on the menu also. The location is perfect for an after dinner walk on the river. read more

Gritty McDuff's Brew Pub - This burger I can't stress enough how good this is - American Near Me - Auburn, Maine

The worst dining experience I've had in a very long time. We remained extremely patient and understanding given we know many businesses are short staffed right now. Almost 2 hours in to our lunch only 4 out of our party of 10 had received any food. We were told multiple times that they were working on our ticket yet no food. At the 2 hour mark we decided to leave without having eaten. No apologies for our experience from the manager and she made us wait another 10 mins while she figured out what to charge us for the few dishes we did receive. Save yourself 2 hours and go somewhere else. read more

Waited for 10 minutes for a server, flag one down and she said "I'm not your waitress" and walked away, waited five more minutes then left. Tables all around us were served. read more

Food was amazing! i'm not a fan of sweet potatoes at all but the bbq pulled pork sweet potato fries are LIFE CHANGINGGGG!!! First time i've ever even heard of maple syrup sour cream (which came with the fries). 10/10 recommend! read more

Sat on the deck looking out over the river. Lovely weather, service was solid as was the food. This place is a safe bet.

I'm extremely surprised by the 3 star rating! Don't let this detour you from enjoying a dinner or night out here. I've eaten here many times and have never had an unpleasant experience. Great atmosphere and great food. Beer, Best Brown is amazing. read more

Today is Mother's Day, come in with my wife and our 5 year old for lunch. We took the last table on the bar side right next to the door leading to the out side. The two tables around us the round one and the long bench placed there orders and then it was our turn to order. The two tables got there food, ate there food and left. We ordered two apps and a kids grilled cheese. We waited 45 minutes for two apps and a kids order which never came, when I finally said something the girl asked me if I wanted for her to check on my food. I understand that yes it was busy, but two tables down a couple ordered nachos and they got it right away and they have only been there for maybe 10 minutes. One of my apps was nachos. So thanks for nothing, and what's sad is that I visit this location on a regular basis. read more

Black Fly stout is my favorite. The food's quite good, especially the Mediterranean Lamb Burger and the Mexicali; I've always enjoyed a good lamb burger. I appreciate that you can get away from the TVs --- the back room has tons of seating, and fewer distractions than the bar area. Definitely a regular stop on my jaunts through L-A. read more

Good atmosphere for a casual beer and a few fried food items. This is the type of place I would come every day if I lived in the area and wanted to just hang out with some friends, I really enjoyed it. The only things I didn't like were: the waitresses kept switching out on us, like every time someone came around again it was a different person and the beer we wanted was not available that day so we didn't have many options. However, the beer we did get was great and the mozzarella sticks were perfect! read more

It's a challenge to find a bar that has a great atmosphere all the time, my friends and I used to just bar hop but now we have found our watering hole so to speak . The staff here are awesome! They always remember who we are and know what we like to drink and eat. The Bar tender Kelly is one of a kind, always sociable , even when the bar is slammed with patrons. Always is smiling and laughing, which creates a welcoming environment! And I can't forget Riley the server/bar back he is always a laugh! Glad my friends and I found an establishment with such a great atmosphere! Great Place and Great Staff!!!! read more

Phenomenal fish and chips. Great Brown Ale brew service fantastic and quick. Best fish and chips I have ever had. From the Midwest so not used to fresh fish like Maine. Will be back. read more

Gritty McDuff's Brew Pub - a man and a woman sitting at a table - American Near Me - Auburn, Maine

4 stars for the beer. 3 stars for the food. I am a huge fan of Gritty's beer. Why you might ask? Because it's good. Just remember that brew house's aren't in the business to make great cuisine, they make good beer. So appreciate the beer and if you want a great dinner go someplace else. With that being said, the bar food isn't that bad. My wife and I particularly enjoy the buffalo chicken pizza, especially when it's coupled with one of their beers (did I mention that I enjoy their beer?). read more

Their beer is great, and their lamb burgers are to die for, but lobstah rolls...seriously not good. The customer service is always great but it's never good to only have one dish to choose from. read more

Good bar I really liked the nachos and cocktails. The bartender with the backwards hat was really nice. I wonder if he's single lol

Been here several times. Great wait staff that's more beer knowledgable than most brew pubs. Very attentive and genuinely nice. Food is very good especially for a front line brew pub. Beer is very good. Not an overwhelming beer list either. All the essentials on tap. Scottish. IPAs. Stout. Brown Ale. Cask beers. Etc. None of the beers you don't want either. Great brew pub!! read more

Honestly thought the food was good but the bartender Kelly was very rude. I have never had such poor service. She was very busy taking care of her friends rather than tending bar. I called her over several times just to have eyes rolled at me. I am from out of town and what a bad experience ! read more

A great place to grab a cold beer with friends at the end of the day, but skip taking out of town visitors for the obligatory lobster roll. They serve their lobster rolls in hot dog rolls with a few wilted pieces of lettuce. No, no, no. Just no. Granted, there are two lobster rolls per serving and the rolls are grilled, but the amount of lobster is scanty and it's not cheap. It would make sense to serve one large lobster roll on some good quality bread, skip the wilted lettuce and God, make sure the fries aren't wilted. read more

I have been here 3 times now and I would say they have consistent food and service. I've had a lobster roll, a burger, soup, and salad and all were quite good. What I like about this restaurant is that you can bring a group here, especially if people are interested in having different types of meals. It is your typical "American" fare, with a long bar, and the tables are like long picnic type tables. The atmosphere is definitely casual and a spot that locals frequent it seems. read more

On the plus side...server was very friendly and took the order within a reasonable amount of time. In the not-so-terrific column...she disappeared for long stretches of time and the restaurant wasn't crazy busy. It took more than 30 minutes to hand over a half-size fried chicken salad (!) Bottom Line: There's either a kitchen problem or a managerial issue here. Will head elsewhere next time. read more

Food was ok,my wrap was good but my fries were cool/cold.The gritty chips were good but I was a little disappointed they didn't come out warm.My beer was tasty but not cold. They waitress was a little slow..wish we had the other young lady she seemed like she was on the ball. The kitchen seemed slow also but it was hard to judge that cause I am sure my waitress was slow.I am going to give it another try as everyone has an off night. read more

Lackluster beer, lackluster food, lackluster service...I know it is blasphemy (to some) to say it, but I feel Gritty's in Auburn is just lackluster. I would have really only ever gone here once, maybe twice, except this place is pretty conveniently located to my work. The patio is super nice and where I enjoy sitting when I come in. Oh and the free wifi is pretty awesome. So not bad, but not great...lackluster with a few convenient perks. read more

There are a handful of meet-up places that I use to connect with friends/colleagues over a beer. These usually are for the purposes of being social, reconnecting, and most often, at least for me, usually don't involve food. They are also not my favorite spots, but tend to be places that are easier to suggest than some lesser known, or harder to find locales. I For that reason, I'll give Gritty's three stars. The beer is good, and I'd give the Portland Old Port location on star higher mainly because it's Portland, not Auburn; if that offends you, then so be it. Auburn isn't downtown Portland. The patio in Auburn is pretty good. The service was slow and disinterested on the Friday I was there (yesterday), which also contributes to the lower rating. read more

I went just before the Balloon Festival began. The service was A-OK and same for the food. The beer was good and the drink menu was interesting. I would go back and it was packed so seems like lots of people like it. read more

Gritty McDuff's Brew Pub - Maine Fried Clams - a heaping platter of ale battered whole belly Maine clams. Served with fires, with coleslaw and tartar sauce - American Near Me - Auburn, Maine

Very underwhelmed with this mainstay on the river; beautifully re-done mill space with a large bar and friendly servers but there is no excuse for tiny rubbery wings and flat uninteresting namesake IPAs. The nachos aren't nacho chips but a baked flour tortilla...huh? Did anyone ever looking for nachos want that? This place seemed popular with the Bates crowd but there are several better places to eat and drink in the resurgent Lewiston/Auburn food and drink market. read more

The Pub Mac n' Cheese with fried jalapeños was absolutely delicious! Crispy and not too spicy. The fried pickles were fantastic but it's a double portion, so know that going in. The steak quesadilla was really good but did not compare for me to the Mac n' Cheese. read more

The mushroom app was surprisingly good, awesome burger ( I just created my own bacon cheese burger) but really enjoyed it. Casual atmosphere. I liked the tables built on top of the barrels. Love Gritty's. Have to come here at least once while in Maine. Good beers, nice deck, there's a place where kids can play outside. They have a gift shop. Typical bar food but never been disappointed read more

Probably one of my favorites in Maine in regards to brewpubs. Food is standard pub fair but is of good quality. I LOVE the pretzels... and I HATE to share them. Beer ... zero complaints and I typically will try whatever is seasonal and than opt for the pub ale. Seems to be one of the best things the Auburn area has going and we have never had a bad experience here. Much love for Grittys. read more

We go up to Maine at least once a year and usually stay in Auburn. Gritty McDuffs was a great institution that we could rely on for a good pub fare and beer. Well, those days seem to be over. This service has deteriorated - we had to search for waitstaff for any order, water, check etc. They have live music on Saturday night which was pretty fun but the outdoor seating was closed for a very small private party which would have allowed us to escape the noise and have a conversation. The food was just lousy. I've been to a lot of pubs and it seems it's kind of hard to mess that up. Grittys, it's time to make yourself great again. read more

Gritty's staff is very friendly, and the views looking at the river are gorgeous. However, I have a few problems. The wait times are just awful. It doesn't matter when you go or how many people are with you. I've had to wait up to an hour for a meal during an early afternoon lunch on a weekday and a quiet Sunday afternoon. The seafood chowder is good but everything is terrible the hamburger meat is meh, the sides are below average, and often the pulled pork is often overcooked. It's crappy overpriced diner food. The mixed drinks are medium. The alcohol content is good though and they don't cheap out. Clean bathrooms. Bottom line: If you're going for the view and friendly social interaction than go. If you're going for the food and timely service I recommend going elsewhere. read more

I'm from out of town and staying across the street at the Hilton. Gritty's is very convenient and always friendly staff. I have eaten the large mc gritty' salad with blackened chicken "incredible" 3 times now and it's always fresh and very tasty. Almost too big to finish and I'm a big eater. They had live music the last time I was in on Friday night that was very tasteful and a very good musician. Not too busy during the week but at 1030 Friday night it was hoppin and the service was still very attentive. I'm not a drinker but the beer from what I heard is pretty good and cheaper than the hotel bar. read more

Stopped in today for a quick drink and app. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the view of the falls, river and "cityscape". Our server was prompt and friendly and our drinks came out quickly, but our appetizer took 40 minutes. It was not busy so we're not sure what went on behind the scenes, but it was a simple pretzel and sauce app, so it shouldn't have taken as long as it did. I am still giving this place 4 stars as it was not necessarily a negative experience. Overall, the atmosphere is inviting and the staff is courteous and chill. We all have off days so I'm just chalking it up to that! I'll definitely be back! read more

This is as close as it gets to a true neighborhood bar where everyone gathers. Gritty's serves great microbrews in a casual atmosphere. This is a great spot to watch the game, meet friends, host a little celebration, get together after work, catch a local band, or just enjoy a beer. The deck is very pleasant in good weather and overlooks the river and some surprisingly nice scenery. We've also taken our kids here quite a few times with no problems. Comfortable place! read more

One of the best fish and chips I've had! The batter on the fish was light and seasoned perfectly. The fish was cut into smaller pieces, so you get a little more batter to fish ratio. We also got some fried pickles, which were fantastic. They serve pickle chips, not spears, which is my favorite. read more

AMAZING FOOD AND SERVICE!!!! I am from New York and was staying at the Hilton so took my family for a late night dinner on a Friday night. The food was very delicious and our waiter was so sweet and patient. Comfortable setting! Highly recommend this place, great food and good prices! read more

Food is really solid. Beers below average but if English style beers are your thing, absolutely. 3-4 bartenders today and the service could not be worse. Inattentive and wrapped up with themselves. Never asked if I wanted a second beer or if I wanted any food. If Grittys isn't careful they're destined for the ash heap of history. read more

Stopped going all together last year. Food is awful , inconsistent and overpriced. broken up bottom of the bag chips for Nachos, what a mess. Staff seems to be waiting for a delivery of sorts, sniff, sniff. Manager on duty does nothing, except sit at bar, eat and wonder who to send home. How about checking that the food is up to par for a change of pace. How about some healthy local items on the menu. What a waste of beautiful space. Portland Gritty's seems to take some pride in what they serve. read more

Grittys is a great place to bring friends or family of all ages (maybe not a newborn). It has lots of options for food and is capable and willing to alter a meal to your liking. The ambiance is friendly, fun, and rustic. With some industrial feel locations in the restaurant, you are never bored with nothing to look at. There are televisions located around the inside of the restaurant making baseball/football/etc night even better. I usually order the caesar salad with grilled chicken, but the last few times I have visited I have chosen either the turkey burger, or a medium ground beef burger. As for the turkey burger I was less than pleased, but I was okay with that. The cooked medium ground beef burger was delicious! Cooked perfectly with pink in the middle, and enough juices to leave in the flavor by not soak the bun. I got a side mashed potatoes, and I could eat a whole meal of just those if I could! DELICIOUS! The wait staff is great! They always remember our orders without having to write them down, which is both impressive and interesting to watch. Things were brought to us promptly and they were not pushy or annoying at all (which I can really appreciate). Overall I am always pleased with my service, food, and experience at this Gritty's location. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more
