After being an established restaurant in Freeport for years now, it seems like this will be a great addition to the Gardiner restaurant scene. Stopping in on opening night, we left our expectations open as we knew it would be a new experience for all involved: us, other customers, servers, chefs, etc. We were definitely pleased with our experience, enjoyed some quality food, and are excited to go back in the future. We ended up trying the ribs, burnt ends, chicken wings, and brisket. What an array of delicious BBQ! They were out of a few things, so this was basically the smoked sampler but with brisket instead of sausage. The menu does specify no substitutions so we wouldn't expect this every time, but we appreciated their ability to offer such a nice a selection on their busy opening night. All the meats were slow cooked to perfection and had delicious flavor from their dry rubs. They had four types of BBQ sauces on the table too, which paired nicely with the meats. My two favorites were the North Carolina style and the Blueberry Haze. For sides and starters, we had the coleslaw, mac and cheese, corn bread, fried onion strings, and fried dill pickle chips. The fried pickles were breaded nicely, weren't too greasy or too sharp of a vinegar flavor, and they paired nicely with the ancho lime mayo. The cornbread was straightforward and good, a little sweet but not overly so. The onions were great, very similar to a blooming onion but less messy to eat. The mac and cheese was very creamy with a subtle smoky flavor, which was delicious! And the coleslaw was also a standout, with a creamy base, finely shredded cabbage and carrots, and great flavor. This was a long review, but this is definitely an exciting addition to the area!

I had no idea what they were talking about. That was my mindset until I found this place. This buffet is overflowing with so many delicious options that I could try to sit there and eat it all but I know it won't happen. If you haven't tried this place I highly encourage you to.

Sedgley Place was quite a disappointment. If I go to a restaurant that is charging $81 for salmon,…read moreover $100 for fillet of beef, and $79 for meatloaf (!) I expect the food and the service to be impeccable, and that is not the case. The best item served all night was the bread and butter, which was very nice. The meatloaf lacked seasoning except for the strong taste of the charred top. It was drowned in a brown gravy made with canned mushrooms. On top were the worst string beans I have ever had, they were undercooked and bitter. The vegetarian squash dish was a Delicata squash filled with mashed sweet potato that completely overpowered the squash taste, and covered with a low quality mozzarella cheese. The 'dip' served with crackers when you arrive at the table tasted like Velveeta and pimentos mixed with gelatin to give it a weird thick consistency. The desserts were ok but nothing special. The servers were friendly and pleasant, but the level of service did not match the price point. Utensils were not picked with and then replaced with the removal of completed plates. New dishes were served before the completed dishes had been removed. The experience seemed rushed as they took the entire order at the beginning and then pushed the courses without a break. Finally the wine list was far overpriced for the quality of wines being offered. For example: El Jefe Tempranillo costs $10.99 retail and the price at Sedgley was $64. They were charging $17 for one glass. That is simply an unreasonable mark up for a pretty poor quality wine. The Mark David Lodi Zinfandel retails at $13, Sedgley charges $58, and it was also not a great tasting wine. While I know there are not a lot a classy restaurants in this area, but it is worth the drive to Bistro Milliard or Slates in Hallowell, or Fishbones in Lewiston to get a much better meal at a more reasonable price.
