Came in Sat 11 am ish to celebrate my birthday . I like to come in for lunch to get the veal combo . We both ordered the veal combo . I did notice the $3.00 veal combo price increase since my last visit . Today there was salt and pepper on the table but did not get spoons with our coffee . The window was clean , Very nice ! Unfortunately the walls still had fool spatter . How do customers get food on the wall ?! Normally I can't eat it all but I did today . I prefer that they serve the Alfredo in a bowl separate. So after my fourth visit I have come to a conclusion weekends are different then week days . Food is served different and the staff is different . I find the wait staff more attentive during the week . Again we were not offered cheese on our food . I forgot to ask . Why not bring it out with the food ? This restaurant did not shine on a Monday night. Staff were sitting around when we walked in, it felt like we were interrupting their break. We were seated in a dark room with chipped paint on the walls. Side plates and rolled silverware were piled on one side of the table by the hostess, we were expected to divvy them out. The room was silent except for the chatter from one other table and the occasional blaring of metal music from the kitchen when the door swung open. Wine selections were unavailable and our server was not knowledgeable, finally asked if they had a Merlot and was accommodated. Food was good, steak was thoroughly enjoyed , ample pasta was flavorful but the ambiance was dreary. Finally found an Italian dinner playlist on Spotify to lighten the mood. We used the Doordash service to order some lunch from Marcos to send as an anniversary gift to our in-laws that live in Maine. The Doordash service (driver Mary) was excellent! Menu choices were very clear using the app and the food arrived excellently executed and hot! We are so happy it was a delicious meal we could send long distance during this pandemic to our family. I had the chicken dolce amara and from what i was told this is a dish everyone raves about. i can't see why. there was no flavor. there was way too much sauce on it. i feel this would be better if served as a dipping sauce. the dish also lacked any bit of salt. it honestly felt like a poorly executed chinese dish. i'm only giving 3 stars because the service and appetizers were good. also to a note that doesn't have to do with food the decor was not very cohesive and the space seemed too big for what is trying to be accomplished. this feels like a place that should create an intimate atmosphere and it fails to do so. read more

I'm giving a 2 because we've eaten here many times, but tonight was the first poor experience. We made reservations 3 days ago, but when we showed up tonight the hostess didn't have our party of 7 on the reservation list. We were put in a side room usually reserved for large parties. Not a big deal, but as I suspected we were forgotten about...many times. Water, drinks, apps all were served sporadically in a hour of us sitting down. One app was forgotten or not put in by the hostess who filled in because again, we were forgotten. That app finally showed up 3 minutes before our entrees but even those took a tremendously long time, probably another 45 minutes after the apps. One entree was forgotten/not put in and it finally showed up when the other 6 people were done eating. The steak was also waaaaay undercooked and not "medium" as ordered. We sat down around 6:20 (for a 6:00 reservation) and left at 8:45...almost 2 1/2 hours! We don't go out a lot so when we do, we want to have a great time especially when we spend over $100. I'm really shocked the app that was very late and the entree that was also late wasn't taken off the bill...at least one of them should have been. The staff did there best to accommodate a group of 9! Mind you it was two separate families spending time celebrating my nephew and my sisters son's 21'st birthday. For some reason a group of ladies that got told they could not be seated together as a group of about 11/12 ladies (covid rules). They the decided d to ruin our evening. We have been enjoying Marco's for many many years the wait staff all know us and they seat us at our favorite table every time well it had been probably three months since we had been back not going to tell you they've up there game considerably. This was our first visit to Marco's. My fist impression was sitting in a booth. The seat springs were worn and I sank way down and the front of the booth seat cut into my legs. I'm not a big guy so this shouldn't happen. The second impression was that the finish on the table top was worn, kind of shabby. We both had a side Caesar to start. It was okay, nothing good or bad. We also both had an eggplant and pasta special. The sauce I suspect came from can. It was too smooth to be made at the restaurant and we quite sweet, but otherwise no real flavor. The serving size as large and you won't walk away hungry. Overall, Marco's is sub-par on Italian food which kind of amazes me because basic Italian food can be done well with a minimum of effort. This was my first visit to Marco's and I was a little nervous, due to the mixture of both over-the-top reviews and those that were scathing. After circling the very large parking lot several times to find a space and then encountering crowds of people inside. I immediately discounted the most negative reviews. You don't get crowds like that, without providing the public something it likes. This is a big 275 seat restaurant, serving classic American-Italian dishes. The space was purpose built after the original location was lost to a fire. It's size and design make it a good choice for functions as well as dining as part of a large group. I liked my meal, a combination of veal parmesan and shrimp primavera served on a large platter. The parmesan had lots of cheese and a crispy crust which I like. The primavera had plenty of shrimp and the interesting twist of diced pepperoni which added a lot of flavor to the dish. So why did I give it 3 stars instead of 4? The food was good, everyone in my group enjoyed their meals and the staff were welcoming. Despite this, the service seemed disorganized. There were plenty of employees, they just didn't seem to have particular assignments or the usual sense of urgency you find in a such a busy place. It took forever to get a drink in the bar not because of the crowd but because the staff were often off to the side chatting or milling about. During our dinner I was never asked if I wanted another beer or water. I would have liked both. Overall, I enjoyed my experience. I wouldn't hesitate to go back. However, if given the choice there is a similar restaurant in the area that I like better. Maybe it's a Coke/Pepsi thing. read more

I guess Lewiston Restaurants in general are not highly regarded. If you YELP in Portland area, reviews are plentiful. However, if dining a bit north of there is more convenient, a few places need to be seriously considered, and deserve your support. Here, you will find the food is great. The service is outstanding and the prices on the Menu are basically about 2 or 3 dollars less than what you would expect to pay in any other Restaurant that is this good. 5 stars for sure. read more

If I could give zero stars I would My husband and I went in last night for dinner. He's been wanting to stop in for a while so we decided to give it a try. They told us it would be a 30 minute wait as long as they could find a server in that section. Absolutely no problem! Ten minutes later we're seated in the bar room. We sit for 20 minutes with no service. Then the host comes by with water and says they'll be right over. We finally see a male waiter go to the table next to us and take their drink order. 10 minutes later comes back and gets their food order. At this point it's been 30 minutes with zero service. Meanwhile we see three new faces behind the bar. It's all of the servers making their own drinks, talking to the bar customers about how they don't know what they're making just "hoping for the best" z They seat another table next to us during this time. When a host comes over and offers them bread and water. I scoffed and said "you have got to be kidding me" because well..... why are you still seating tables with no wait staff? She asks if we have been helped again . It's now been 40 minutes . I told her we were all set and we walked out. Ridiculous. How do you run a business like this? We waited as long as we could as I've been in the industry all of my working life. But man.. get it together. read more

Please note that this review is for the lunch buffet only. I hear that the menu offerings are pretty good; the buffet, not so much! Marco's is a Lewiston institution that has been open since the 70s. Their new location at the fairgrounds offers a bit more room but much less atmosphere than the old place on Lisbon st. I went to Marco's with a group of about 40 folks for lunch. We all dined on the buffet. It really wasn't that great. Frozen meatballs, frozen shrimp, and a frighteningly colored Asian chicken dish were among the offerings. All were consistently bland and boring. They also had a crab soup that could have been pretty good had they not used imitation crab meat in it. I mean really? Imitation crab meat in a soup? You are located less than 45 minutes from the coast! Geesh... I might be back for dinner some day but, won't subject myself to the buffet again. read more

I'm in awe over the reviews. We decided to go to Marco's for my wife's birthday today. We have been here before, but as we pulled into the parking lot just before 6pm there were no customer cars in the lot. We thought they were closed. They were not, but there were also no customers. We sat down and the waiter took our drink order. He disappeared for at least 10 minutes. Again, the restaurant had only one other table at that time. Finally we put in the food order. After a long wait (I don't mind waiting for good food) the food came out and was between cold and lukewarm at best except for my wife's Alfredo which was piping hot. My son loves calamari and orders it whenever it is available. He ate one bite and sat back looking depressed. I asked what was wrong and he said he didn't like it, so I tried one and sure enough it had no flavor or seasoning at all. Even the breading was bland. As for my Pork Osso Bucco, again, the food was cold in spots and slightly warm in others. The mushrooms and sauce were stone cold and tasted off. A real disappointment since the meal needed to hold me over for my 12 hour work shift which I headed to after leaving. My wife took a few bites and said it was the worst Alfredo she has ever had. I tasted it and agree. It tasted like it was out of a jar and was the consistency of wall paper paste. On a positive note, my brother-in-law enjoyed his pizza. My other sons meatballs were rubbery and tasted like they were from a bag. I question whether they are homemade. All eight of us will no longer be going to this restaurant. He loves buffets and was very happy that it was open even though it's advertised for M-F only. I ordered a cheese pizza and his girlfriend ordered scallops. Our meals came quickly and were delicious. Good Italian in ME seems very rare! We have been looking for some good chicken parm for several years and have probably tried a dozen places. Finally tried this place and it was awesome! We're remodeling and have no kitchen this Thanksgiving!! So where's a place that six of us can go for dinner?? Well my husband had gone to Marco's in the past for Thanksgiving dinner, and it was (really!) over the river... not so much through the woods, though... so there we went. At $20 per person the buffet was a bit overpriced, but had most of the traditional fixings (turkey, squash, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, etc.) as well as Italian favorites like tortellini and lasagna. Nice salad bar and dessert table (though the lemon merengue pie was frozen!?!?) began and ended the meal. The staff was friendly and festive and really felt like extended family.
