Martin Ray Sonoma Pinot - went perfectly with both dinners
Greg L.

First night of restaurant week - we picked here so that we could support a local business that also had some tasty dishes on their special menu. We started with sparkling brut rose, then switched to Martin Ray Sonoma Pinot - which is a typical mid-Coast Pinot...richer than a Burgundy or Oregon Pinot. We both preferred the grilled Caesar; the smokiness perfectly offset the rich dressing with anchovy. The grilled halloumi was good but not as flavorful. The braised lamb was so tender and rich, complemented by the roasted eggplant and the harissa mashed potatoes - first time I've had them...but now I will figure out how to make them at home! The haddock and black lentils steamed in paper needed the accompanying salt and garlic, otherwise it would have been bland. Might be worth using halibut or cod rather than haddock. The Earl Gray and apricot crème brûlée was so good...rich and intense flavor. The chocolate blood orange tart was ok but not chocolatey enough - was more of a blood orange tart with a chocolate side 'shell.' We enjoyed our dinner and will return. Hope they have an occasional taco Tuesday or seafood Friday with specials different than their normal menu.

This restaurant is located in a hotel which I typically avoid but decided to come to because of the rave reviews. Everything was absolutely delicious. The bar is huge and spacious and the bartender was fantastic. I had a 555 cocktail, which was perfect. I then got the goat cheese fritters the bread and the haddock in parchment paper. The accompaniments were amazing, lavender sea salt, pickled fennel, and hazelnuts. Dessert doesn't disappoint at all, especially seeing one of my favorite ice wines were on the menu. Don't let this restaurant being in a hotel deter you. It was a great great spot. Chefs kiss!

Large main dining room beautifully designed to partition into intimate spaces.

You'll feel like a grown-up on a nice night out, but not so stuffy that you can still wear casual attire! Seasonal menu always has delicious options beautifully presented. Our fave server Alana takes good care of us, but all the service is awesome. The space is quite large & well-designed into smaller intimate settings: one large main bar + a second one ideal for private events. This time, we had: 1. Short rib special w/ pesto grits & pickled radish was melt in your mouth! 2. Roast chicken was simply roasted w/ perfectly crispy skin & a divine sauce. 3.Caramelized onion soup: not to be missed! Garnished w/ balsamic glaze, chives, crispy shallots. Located inside the Federal Hotel. The rear parking lot has direct access to the restaurant.

Very good food, small Menu but what we ordered was great. Service was prompt and friendly, very cool atmosphere.

Pleasurable evening. 5 stars but an area or two for improvement. Joined a friend for dinner. Let's call it "pre-New Year's Eve" since it was 12/30. The restaurant is beautiful. Classy, elegant, welcoming vibe. Relaxed sophistication. The holiday decorations made it extra special. While the waitress tried (a bit too hard) to get us to order the signature tasting menu (various items on the menu but in smaller portions which gives you the opportunity to try multiple things in one visit) it was more than we wanted. The next suggestion was a large and also small plate. Again, I can see the potential benefits but more than we wanted and it felt "pushed". What we did order was the warm bread and butter as well as a glass of Reisling. Both were good. From there, it was Fish in Paper and Harissa Pork Loin. These were excellent - seasoned and cooked to perfection. When our silverware was switched out, the young woman simply reached across the table not even acknowledging us (a "hello" or "are you enjoying your meal" seems appropriate). One more glass of wine and a shareable, delicious creme brulee finished off the evening perfectly.

Baked Seafood in Mornay Sauce. Just delightful!

We had dinner at this restaurant last Friday night and found it to be a lovely room with a great 'feel' to it with tall windows and comfortable furnishings. We were staying at the Hotel so we were hoping it would be nice. While the food was just terrific, there were one or two hiccups. One was that there was some function going on at the same time as our reservation so a nearby function room was sucking up all of the staff and the kitchen getting them taken care of leaving us with a wait and a stressed out server who was not into serving anyone that evening. (Been there) My dinner, however, was delightful. I started with their 5 onion soup which was astonishingly good. Go to this restaurant and order that! I followed up my soup with a baked seafood with mornay sauce. The sauce was not overly thick, more like a milky chowder with a hint of cheese over a large portion of scallops, hake and Bangs Island mussels. That was just terrific too.

First try, but I was a big fan of 555 in Portland and now I'm a fan here. I came in tonight solo and sat at the bar. My bar man Stefan was welcoming and knowledgeable. Great combo . The mussels were pretty fabulous. The space is a comfortable and very modern vibe, unusual for this part of Maine. Check it out and you won't be disappointed.

Fine Easter dinner. Good food, good service and the manager (Aaron) bent over backwards to assist us with a personal issue.

Actually, even though it was windy, it was kind of cold inside, so we chose outside. Dawn was our server and she could not have been nicer. She talked us through several of our questions about food on the menu. We ordered the calamari prepared pepper's way. Really good. We then each ordered the stuffed halibut. It was also good, but you had to eat it quickly because it got cold fast. We ordered broccoli as our vegetable side, but the chef gave us stir fried squash and zucchini. Dawn was embarrassed and went back for the broccoli. However I ate all of the mixed vegetables because they were actually quite good. For our last seafood dinner in Maine, we are glad we chose this place. Not fancy but very friendly and warm.

We already have some excellent local Asian restaurants but we don't have too many places, serving upscale bistro and pub food in an attractive setting. As this was our first time here, our server, Joshua, Was especially helpful and attentive in beverage and menu selections. And he did a really nice job of trying that all of the dishes came out at the right time in the right order, which isn't done often enough. Joshua highly recommended the falafel and I join him in that recommendation. The switch to lentils is the base made an exceptionally light but tasty version of a wonderful favorite. The mug, fish and cabbage dish was delicious, though maybe a bit larger certain of lentils, maybe with a bit more spice, would've made this dish even better . The risotto with crab was delicious, but the crab was lost in the dish, so it probably would be better as a crabcake or as a amount of crab meat on top of the risotto. And normally addition to risotto are made at the very end anyway, so this makes sense to get the most out of the crab. We had several glasses of wine, with generous pours; the Sancerre was exceptionally good and paired well with everyone's dishes. There are some excellent local beers on top as well for those who want beer rather than wine. One of our group had some of the oysters and said that they were extremely fresh and delicious - they were local from Brunswick (Mere Point). The desserts and after dinner drinks looked good, but we were full enough that we'll wait until another visit to do that.

An employee loading soda into a machine nearby, however, told us gruffly not to bother to stand there because the two cooks were not yet inside and we "weren't going to get anything" until they were ready. We acknowledged her politely and sat down at the picnic table right in front of the sign. 20 minutes later, we were still waiting for someone to come out to take our order. When another customer arrived and stood in front of the sign, a woman came out immediately and took that customer's order, the customer who arrived 20 minutes after we did. Nobody from the food shack acknowledged us or asked us if we were ready to order. If someone had simply said to us, "Hey, sorry for the delay, we're a little behind, but we'll be out to take your order as soon as possible, it would have been fine. Instead, there was nothing. Not even an acknowledgement that we were even there. We all decided to eat somewhere else because we felt so disrespected. The loss to Erica's was $100 for lunch sales and $150 for the lobsters we were going to buy for a party that night. Multiply that by the regular customers we may well have become in the future if we had had the chance to enjoy the food.
