As self proclaimed German food and beer lovers, we decided to try this place during our first night in Brunswick, ME. We were staying close by and walked over and were fortunate enough to grab a table on a Saturday evening, as we noted upon arrival that reservations were strongly encouraged. We were greeted and seated in minutes in the front dining room area (there is a back area as well behind the bar area) and provided with water. Nice. Our server was friendly and accommodating and promptly asked for our drink orders and answered our questions. We did not see most of the beers we are familiar with at other German establishments we frequent or have (including in Germany and Austria) but we were quite pleased with our selections. The cucumber salad was fantastic. The Jager schnitzel was different from what we are accustomed to and have had and made at home, but none the less very tasty. The red cabbage was outstanding. The pretzel and popovers brought in a basket to accompany the meal were super. Wonderful homey and relaxing atmosphere, great service, clean restrooms, nice decor. We would recommend a stop in.

We had a really good early dinner here tonight! We were happy to see most of our German favorites on the menu - schnitzel, wurst, spätzle, goulash, sauerbraten, wines, beers, etc. FYI - this wouldn't be a good place to bring a vegetarian for dinner - every entree is meat or fish based. For an appetizer we had the mushrooms which came with 4 and tasted fantastic! They also gave us complimentary rolls and hot pretzels, served warm and with a peppery mustard for the pretzel - Delicious! For dinner we split the German Sampler, which filled up both of us! It had a little bit of everything on it! Prices were reasonable, service was quick and courteous. Warm atmosphere. I would highly recommend checking them out!

We have not been here in a few years. My wife and I went tonight after receiving a gift certificate as a Christmas present. Admittedly, I am the bigger fan of German food so my wife tagged along as a good sport. I enjoyed the curry wurst I ordered very much! The sausage combined with a tomato-curry sauce is a great pairing. The accompanying red cabbage and sauerkraut were very good as well. The selection of German beers was excellent also. I wish I could remember the waitress's name because she handled 8-9 tables on her own and did an admirable job! Overall a good experience and I will be back!

Great atmosphere in such a quaint downtown. Authentic German food with great service!! There is more in Maine than Lobster!

It doesn't impress you upon first sight from the street. But were passing through Brunswick; actually on our way to get pizza at a place down the street when we noticed this "Authentic German Food" restaurant. We LOVE German food and decided to give it a try. They don't open until 4:30 and we had 45 mins to kill so we almost went to the pizza place after all. We walked in at 4:25 and were greeted by a cheery staffer and seated right away. BY 4:50 EIGHT of the THIRTEEN tables were seated with hungry diners. We knew we had stumbled upon something good! This place is GREAT!

German Sampler - A tasting of bratwurst, bauernwurst, gulasch, sauerbraten, both wiener and jägerschnitzel & all German side dishes.

Richard's is one of the few restaurants in Midcoast Maine that has authentic German cuisine. Am impressive "stein" collection on the walls.

The strudel appetizer--ham, asparagus, & cheddar was delicious.

Great food amid a nice, homey atmosphere. One of the best German restaurants I've ever eaten at in the States.

Easy location right on Main St. Plenty of parking during the day (I've not been there at night)…read more It's accessible for all as well. We were greeted right as we walked in. I informed them our friend might have his certified veteran's service dog and with ease she knew a good place for us, so the dog could be comfortable and lay down if needed. Very veteran friendly restaurant. My dad loved it here for that reason. Glad he was able to try it before he passed away. They treated him with the utmost respect. Our server was friendly and fast on her feet! She patiently waited for everyone to make their decisions and listened carefully to customizations for the sandwiches and sides. Our beverages never went empty! She was awesome. Our food was fresh and portions were perfect. Not too much and not too little. We didn't leave hungry nor overfull. I loved the french fries. My haddock pieces were nice as well. My friend's Reuben looked amazing. My husband got the special - Poutine burger and said the gravy was nice. The fries weren't on it, which threw us off a bit, but the cheese curds (melted) and the gravy were nice. I loved my sangria. I got the last one ;) my friend enjoyed her spicy Margarita, and my friend got the alcohol cider on tap! Restrooms were clean. Overall a great experience.

The service has always been great! They offer high tops, booths, tables or bar seating. They have a specials board upon walking in, so check that out. Their menu isn't huge, but definitely a good variety so everyone can find something to eat. One photo I forgot to take, was their Irish Nachos, made with potato skins and we had it with pulled pork - now that was sooo good! Definitely an item to try out if you're thinking of an appetizer. Now with that being said, my husband didn't care for the pork being on the sweet side, where I did like it sweet, so good to know for those that like sweet or not sweet. We were going to order their onion rings, as we tried them before and they're homemade, not frozen, but we wanted to try something different. They have a full bar with a TV and an accessible handicap ramp, located on the front of the building. We have tried the prime rib and 104 Main Burger before and both were awesome. Also, I don't like brussel sprouts and the waitress said, "Trust me, the chef knows how to make anyone love brussel sprouts, because he knows how to cook them." Even she wasn't a brussel sprout fan - and yes, she was correct. They were amazing. If you're ever in Topsham, looking for a place to eat, stop in and give them a try!

Actually, even though it was windy, it was kind of cold inside, so we chose outside. Dawn was our server and she could not have been nicer. She talked us through several of our questions about food on the menu. We ordered the calamari prepared pepper's way. Really good. We then each ordered the stuffed halibut. It was also good, but you had to eat it quickly because it got cold fast. We ordered broccoli as our vegetable side, but the chef gave us stir fried squash and zucchini. Dawn was embarrassed and went back for the broccoli. However I ate all of the mixed vegetables because they were actually quite good. For our last seafood dinner in Maine, we are glad we chose this place. Not fancy but very friendly and warm.

The issues were glaring though. We arrived early for a group reservation of 10 and started at the bar. The service was very slow and we got the sense that the bartender was frustrated that we showed up early with the idea to have a cocktail before our reservation. Bar service continued to be painstakingly slow throughout the night. The restaurant was somehow out of several of their menu options (despite the restaurant not being busy on a weekend day). Not the end of the world, but it left us asking some questions. The major issues really arose when our entree courses were served. They had somehow ran out of french fries, and you could see that in the portion size of the frites in our steak frites (the picture included in our review was our plate -- we had BY FAR the most fries out of those at the table who ordered steak frites). And they ran out of steak - one of the people at our party who ordered steak frites was served a hamburger (which isn't even on the menu). Overall, I thought that we overpaid for the food and if it wasn't for the good company at our dinner - I would have been very frustrated.
