Ebenezer's is the perfect hole-in-the-wall, no b.s. pub with good food, good vibes, and a great beer selection. Their menu creatively and humorously describes the offerings, which we really enjoyed. We visited in the dead of Winter, but there were still a decent handful of diners in the joint. I'd highly recommend the poutine and the fish and chips. The value is great, large portions and relatively inexpensive. Our waitress was kind and helpful with recommendations. Will definitely be back to try out their Summer beer list! read more

Accidentally stumbled upon this place. I asked my father to pick a spot for his birthday dinner. The spot he picked was closed. We ended up here and it was absolutely perfect. He's from Germany and he said it was like being home again (although it's a Belgium restaurant, he knew all of the dishes and recognized many of the beers). Service was excellent. My father got a beer he hadn't had for decades. The food was delicious. We all shared plates. He said it all tasted like he was back there. It was pricy but worth it. We'll definitely be returning. An odd fellow's hall of brews and pub fair. Putting distance from the golf course, you can pull right up in your golf cart, get hammered and continue on thinking you're playing an awesome game! The prices are a bit steep but after a few 10%+ Belgian ales you won't care how much it cost! I had three Gulden Draaks at 10.5% ABV I was so lubricated I ended up paying for the whole table! Okay jokes aside, the service was excellent. The food was good. The chicken wings were meh but doable. I prefer non breaded wings. These seemed like pre-cooked Frozen breaded chicken wings from the supermarket. Is it worth a drive out this far? Yah, I'd do it again. The food was very good, try their bread for an appetizer, the same bread which is super crispy and delicious is what the steak and cheese is wrapped up in, I got that and it was great. I am a coleslaw snob and it was delicious! The entire table all had different meals and every single one of them were awesome, even the kids chicken fingers were delicious. The service was great, very prompt and two workers for our party of 13, we got seated immediately. If you are a beer fan you may really see this place as a 5. This pub has an outstanding craft beer list, things you just can't get at regular places. Food is very good. Pub style menu but with a flair. We had the calamari to start. Lightly battered, oil and lemon dressing. Delicious. I had the vegetable quesadilla based on recommendation of our server. She was right, it was delicious. Served with salsa and sour cream. A couple of the people with us had the burgers and rated them very high for flavor and toppings. The French fries were nice and crispy but not burnt. Loved them. We sat out on the screen porch and watched the golfers out on the course. The wait staff seamed a little stressed, not the friendliest. The menus is ok, extremely pricey for simple dishes. Lots of beer choices not many wine offerings or seltzer offerings. We had a simple chicken sandwich, a burger and two smaller glasses of wine. $78.00. Had the same experience a year ago and said to myself I would not come back. Ebenezer's Pub is a really cute restaurant and backs up to a golf course. We sat on their covered and screened in patio. The service was phenomenal...there was plenty of waitstaff and they were attentive. The food, however, was quite expensive for the quality and quantity of food. We ordered the Thai chicken wings served in a disposable aluminum tin...7 heavily breaded, small bone-in wings with 2 carrots sticks and 2 celery sticks for $14.99. We also ordered the lobster roll for the market price of $32.99 served in a disposable paper basket...very small portion and the lobster was not flavorful and really had no taste. I wouldn't have minded paying the high food prices, if the quality and quantity were there and the meals were served on dishes instead of disposable products. It is worthy to note that there is no cell phone service or wi-fi so you'll actually have to talk to your dinner companions! ;-) read more

5/5 beer list 3.5/5 food 2/5 for value I was very impressed by Ebenezer's at first. The young man (very mature adolescent) led us to our table and answered all of our questions easily. They practiced excellent social distancing and hygiene. The French onion soup was so promising, but was salty/concentrated to the point of being inedible. The Caesar salad was incredibly delicious (adding chicken was $7, a little steep). The Bang Bang Shrimp and frites were also pretty yummy. But here's the thing- we walked out of there having dropped $191 (after tax and tip). On lunch. For two. And the food was good, but not exceptional. Granted, my husband indulged in 2 relatively rare beers ($18 for about 4-6 oz), and don't get me wrong, he was thrilled to have the opportunity to try them. We aren't cheap, but we do take menu price into consideration when choosing our meals. But we were shocked to see that we spent $78 on 4 alcoholic beverages alone. If I'm going to spend that kind of money, I want it to be at a nice restaurant, you know? If you're a beer connoisseur, it still might be worth it. But be prepared to pay! read more

I can die happily now. The beers here are absolutely lights out, phenomenal, top top quality. I am using Heady Topper as my measure, litmus test. All beers are compared to Heady for quality. All of the beers at Ebenezer's, meet, or exceed Heady Topper level quality. You will not be disappointed. The place lives up to its rep. And while we're talking, and having such a nice review - the food is also excellent. EverythAng on the menu is good. I mean - everyTHANG. Note: there are no growler fills, and you cannot buy/take away beers. Just enjoy the top end stuff on scene in a very nice atmosphere, with very nice staff. I really wanted to like this place because of their incredible selection of beers including some very obscure Belgian lambics, but the food is bland, ordinary, and subpar given the ridiculously high prices. Before I go on, I will say that the staff were excellent. We could tell they were really trying hard but no amount of niceness can save this place. Not sure where to begin on the food. It was very greasy pub fare served in cardboard trays that I would expect to have served to me in a bowling alley or at a baseball game. The owners of this restaurant seem to want to present it as a small plate / tapas style with some larger plates upwards of $35 as well as standard pub sandwiches and burgers. When I see a place that has small plates and prices like $10 for fries, I expect some originality in the dishes. In this case, they were extremely ordinary fries and a very small portion size. An absolute ripoff. I had the $19 Reuben. Greasy and bland. Not worth the price. I tried someone else's burger. Greasy and not worth $19. See a trend here? It is insulting to your customers to charge these prices. We had a large party but there weren't many other patrons in the restaurant, so we shouldn't have had to wait as long as we did for food. We had just spent the day snowmobiling and hiking and were famished. While waiting, we asked if they had bread and we were told "yes but it's not complimentary". Seriously? The bread itself was a very small baguette. This restaurant needs to find its identity. It has no business charging some of these prices given the low quality food and small portion sizes. No amount of good beer will ever make up for that. Also, the owners need to join the 21st century and get a working website. Avoid this place! read more

We did take-out from Ebenezer's since they were the only place to eat at during our short stay around Stoneham. They quickly took our order over the phone and were very friendly, but unfortunately the quality of the food didn't match their service. We ordered two Reuben's with a side of fries, and it came out to over $40. Extremely overpriced, but again, there's no other place around here so they can get away with whatever price they want. The Reuben's were just meh. The bread wasn't fresh at all. The fries were the most disgusting fries I've ever had. We couldn't even finish them, as they tasted like cardboard. Ebenezer's is known worldwide as THE go-to place for Belgian beer aficionados. The food, on the other hand, is a disappointment. On a beautiful Saturday this past September, I and three friends took in 18 holes of golf at Kezar Lake Golf Club adjacent to the pub. After our round, we thought we'd grab an early dinner at Ebenezer's. Things started off badly when the waitress enthusiastically sold us on the Rhode Island mussels. Fifteen minutes later, she emerged from the kitchen to tell us they were all out of them, so we decided to order the calamari instead. Big mistake. We all agreed it was the worst we'd ever had. The calamari bread coating was a light brown, it was doughy and the dish was lukewarm. Things only went downhill from there. Despite the hour (3:30 p.m.) and that there were only four tables of diners in the restaurant, the service was exceptionally slow. One of my friends who likes Hendrick's and tonic, thought he'd have another while waiting for his meal to arrive. No luck. The waitress told him he "kicked" the Hendrick's with his last drink. Posted at the entrance to the restaurant was a hand-written flyer apologizing for their prices, that the owners weren't happy about them, and that they would do everything they could to bring them down. My three friends each ordered the $40 lobster roll (that's right $40). I had the sausage platter which I highly recommend. After the lobster rolls arrived, I heard them mutter under their breath about how light on the lobster they were while one of them noted he didn't get a lobster tail while the other two did. They were promised curly fries but instead got regular French fries instead which were obviously pre-frozen and under-fried. Though I thought we should say something about the calamari at the very least, I was overruled. We split the $340 bill (20 % tip included) 4 ways. God willing, we'll be back to Lovell, Maine - and to Ebenezer's - again next autumn. We'll stick to the beer instead. read more

Look...It's July 4th week. Restaurants are filled with patrons. The staff is frazzled. Beer is flying around, trays of food are traveling at the speed of light... I get it. Let me just say at the outset that I love this place! The beer list is the best in the country and the food is great. But if I hear the the chef berate his staff, the way I heard tonight... I will never come back. I thought the tv was on and I was watching Gordon Ramsey. We were out for a drive and truly just happened upon this place on a Friday afternoon. It was going on 2 PM and we hadn't had lunch yet. The parking lot was full. It didn't seem crowded inside and we were seated right away in the patio. The service we got was fine, although they seemed to switch up the waitress on us a couple times, which was confusing. We ordered the Thai wings to start and we loved them. I haven't decided yet if I loved them $15 worth as a "small plate". Then it took forever for our sandwiches to come out. My Rueben was ok. The bottom piece of bread was totally sogged out, so that was disappointing. My spouse really liked her burger. We both found the fries to be just ok. Overall, we were able to sit out on a patio that backed up to a golf course and enjoy are lazy afternoon lunch that was just ok. Sometimes that's what you get. read more

Inside Ebenezer's you'll find a noisy, cozy neighborhood pub atmosphere that I imagine is great in the winter. Outside you'll find a more spacious, serene patio overlooking the Kezar golf course. In either venue, you can enjoy a wide selection of overpriced craft beers and overpriced, but decent, comfort food. Chris maintains a laid back attitude behind the bar, and you get the sense you're welcome to stay all day, although they do get very busy as there are not many other options in the area. read more

Busy at dinner but friendly service, good food, and fun ambiance. The fried haddock dinner was fantastic and the loaded cheese steak sandwiches were very good. Good fries as well. Open pretty late on Sunday evening in mid-October; unsure if that is their year-round schedule. It's reasonably priced given the location and quality. We did not experience the bar but my stepdad loved his beer (they have a huge selection) and the beer batter on the fish was yummy. If I ever make it back to Maine, I hope to make it back to Evenezer's on Kezar Lake. read more

This place used to be okay and maybe a little pricey. Now... oh my word, almost 20 dollars for a burger, 10 dollars for a side of fries, and 25 for pasta with a few veggies. After 5 years I finally made the long trip to Lovell in an attempt to check out one of the best lambic beer bars in the US. I checked Facebook, Yelp AND Google, all of which said Ebenezer's was open all day. We approach around 2:30pm, there were 2 cars in the parking lot, so we walked in the door that said entrance. It quickly became clear they weren't open, so I immediately felt awkward being inside (but the door was unlocked and I thought they were open). We ended up at Saco River Brewing and the owner said Ebenezer's should be open. I guess I have bad luck. Unfortunately I won't be driving an hour into the middle of nowhere again only to risk finding out they're closed. I guess I could call but it seems like they should better communicate their hours for a better customer experience. It all feels like too much work honestly. read more

As a craft beer enthusiast, I was really looking forward to visiting Ebenezer's. My girlfriend and I traveled from PA, anticipating a transcendent experience. Sadly, it was not worth the trip. First and foremost, their website completely misrepresents how much beer is actually available. I would say at best, 1/10 of the bottles listed are actually available for sale. When we asked why this was, we were told the website was just for reference, to which I would respond, "who cares what beers you 'might have at some point'?" I only care about what beers are actually there! Also, when we asked about the cellar beers, our waitress said they were not available, and she did not know why. Long story short, everything I was hoping to drink - Cantillon, Hanssens, etc. - were nowhere to be had. With that said, we soldiered on. The draft list was great. Lots of unique sours, saisons and so on. The problem... actually getting anything. Our service was incredibly slow. It took 20 minutes plus to get our first beer - a $14 pour of a Mikkeller blueberry sour. It was about 7 ounces at best. A good beer for sure, but way overpriced for such a scant serving. The restaurant clearly needs more staff. Over the next 2-3 hours, we were constantly sitting with empty glasses as we waited to order our next beer. Our waitress was the only one working, and she could barely keep up with a 1/2 full restaurant. We also got very little in the way of suggestions or checking in to see how we were doing or if we liked our beer. I'm not normally worried about such things, but when you drop over $100 just on beer, you should get more attention and interaction from your server. The owner did stop and chat for a bit about what special pours they could offer outside of the cellar, but she disappeared later and we couldn't have followed up even if we wanted to. Add to all of this that the food is average at best. The frites are not frites and have zero crisp. The Pliny burger was just good. Our "reserved" table was so dark we could barely see. The decor is cliche and a bit dingy. We also had to listen to the staff vacuum the floors as we sat and drank - it was only 9 or 10 PM, and killed any vibe there was. This place seems to succeed more on reputation than actual experience. They may have one of the best sour festivals in the country, but a restaurant's true rating should be based on what an average person experiences on any random night. We left feeling mostly as if we had waited too long, spent too much, and were just another number. In my book, "Best Beer Bar in America" should require a lot more... great customer service, a notable setting, and truly rare beers. On this night, Ebenezer's had none of these things. Ebeneezers was the suggestion of a local & I am very pleased to have found it. It is in the middle of nowhere off of Rte 5 & next to a very pristine looking golf course. I went for dinner & in the dark, Ebeneezers is very charming w the lit street sign & the white lights at the porch/patio seating area of the barn exterior. This helps point the way as this barn is attached to a residence. I will note - should you come during the daytime some of this charm might fade due to the location but I dig the barn... Let's talk dining room -- it's simple however you should expect this from the exterior. If you're seeking fancy -- this is not going to suit you. BUT if you're seeking great pub food & a beer selection to go with it -- you've entered heaven. I suggest sitting at the bar. The bartender knows her shit & for the life of me I can't recall her name. She served up some beer selections sampler style since Belgium beer was new to my guest & upon making a choice ($8)- beer was served in a glass that evokes the style of a red wine glass (globe). Since I am GF -- they stock 4 different GF beers (2 of which made be GREENEs) & I believe 2 ciders. I went w vodka ($8.50) since they have a full liquor license to take advantage of. Food -- we ordered Fish&Frites & a simple Hamburger (GF buns available) - which was not simple in flavor! Frites -- hand cut & could be a meal on its own. I wish I had some left. Fish - a fried haddock - 3 big pieces w a plate full of fries...ahem, frites I mean. ($12) Hamburger - served w some pretty spectacular pickles, a nicely melted cheese & cooked the way I like -- well done. This is one of those places that is so pleasant to be at you don't want to leave. It is like walking into a pub in Europe where you feel you are in someone's home that has been converted into the local pub. The bar is small but WOW what an amazing selection of beers. If you like Belgian beers this is the place to be. No where else in the country have I found this many in one place. My husband and I only wished that drinking more at lunch would have been acceptable. Between the two of us we sampled 4 different beers. Some we liked more than others but it was great fun trying them. On top of how lovely it is, and how great the beers are the food was just as good. I had a ruben sandwich that was spot on and my husband had a steak and cheese sub that was perfectly prepared. Service was top notch with a friendly waitress who never forgot us. I wish so much this was local to me. I look forward to my next trip to Maine (or NH) just to stop here. We really loved it. I've been hearing a lot about this this restaurant and was excited to try it. We got there around 5:20 last night and there were only a few people in the restaurant. We were sat at a high top in the bar area next to a door. We asked to be moved and again the restaurant was empty but we were sat at the far end table in a corner : there were flies all Over the place but we decided to give it a go. We both wanted seafood so my husband got a lobster roll and I got the scallops/lobster corn chowder . I took one bite off dish and it was so salty. I wiped the sauce/corn chowder off of a few scallops and lobster and managed to eat about 1/3 of it. My husband asked me if it to send it back, that he would rinse it off and eat it later.
