My family goes often. Drinks are always served first. Their menu selection slightly changes often, which gives great variety to what you can eat during different times of the year. Food sometimes takes a little while than usual to be served. But with unlimited refills on Soda and special drinks, you don't have to worry if you will have enough soda for your meal. A nice eatery that's cornered in the Prince Kuhio Mall, makai-side, Puna-end between Macy's and the Social Security office. I had the 55+2+2+2 menu, read as aged grouping, +2 link sausages (or bacon), +2 eggs--hard-over, +2 buttermilk pancakes topped with butter and my choice of dribbling coconut syrup, and my friend gave half of her hash browns, with 2 cups of coffee and water. Total was $8.99, whereto, I paid, --nothing, since I was treated in lieu of acts of kindness I've bestowed upon her and her 14 year-old son. Service was very kind, courteous, and prompt, table was clean, and there's constant smiles with timely follow-through in attending to our needs. It was an all-around, wonderful breakfast for the three of us this day. The company, the wait-help, the meal, --especially THE REASON behind the cost of my meal. Clean, well lit, and accommodating servers -- in the aloha style of Hawaii. Satisfying comfort food, high in calories and not terribly good for you -- but then, all IHOPs are like that. One star is deducted because of a family with a out-of-control screaming child, which all customers and servers pretended not to exist. One outstanding thing, though, to counterbalance that deficiency was the friendly manager, who visited all customers, thanked them, and solicited feedback. read more

Wait time is long during a dinner rush hour! Be aware that your order may be delayed and cold when delivered to your table! You might have to ask another employee where's your order! Be aware if you claim being served way after others were served, your waitress will cop an attitude that the other tables were there in the onset of the rush hour! But they will give you a 20% discount for your COLD food! read more

Waited 45mins for our food to come after we ordered. Watched every table around us sit, order, eat, pay and leave... Tables that came in more than 20mins after us! Half of our table of 4 order came first (barely warm), 7mins later the rest came. Asked to speak to a manager, it took her 18mins to even get to our table with no explanation and barely an apology. Said she'd give is a discount, we got $18 taken off our bill. We were checked on twice before we complained, twice in an hour (which included our order). We went in during breakfast and walked out during lunch. We paid cash and left no tip, to show the same regard we were shown. I've been here a few times. My first few experiences were okay. I had a potato soup with a sandwich, the soup was very delicious and filling. My young 9 year old cousin loved her pancake and enjoyed decorating it. My last visit was terrible. The servers took a long time to take our order, then our food took a really long time to come out. When we got our food, our pancakes were burnt. After we were done eating, no one came to see how we were doing, or to give us our check. We sat there waiting and waiting and waiting... it was slow, I am not sure why they didn't give us the check. We actually left and came back later to pay, and they had not noticed we were gone. The food is pretty good when it is done right. But I will probably not be coming back. read more

I ordered to breakfast plates took about 45 minutes for the food to come out there were three managers there which none of them failed to update me on my order as when I paid they said it'll take 15 to 20 minutes. Wow what's with the 1 1/2 stars?? Its IHOP! I'm all for supporting KHOP up the street but it was Mothers Day and this didn't have a long wait in comparison. Yeah it's a little expensive but if you like IHOP, I'd say this is pretty comparable to any I've been to. The country and big steak omelets were good as were the pancakes. This was an embarassing experience since we had guests from the mainland. The restaurant was out of onions, potatoes and another dressing. Could not believe that they were out of staples like this. The steak was tough and unappetizing. Although the server was very nice, and it wasn't her fault that they did not have many items on the menu. For such a big restaurant, there were only about ten customers in the restaurant the whole time we were there. I wonder why! read more

Aloha! This IHOP in Hilo has it...the aloha spirit! The staff is very friendly and food is delicious. You have to try the Spicy Triple Meat Scrambled dish on the $8 menu. The portion and quality is there. I have to say...this is one of my favs! Will return and probably tomorrow! read more

I ate here a few days ago. I ordered a customized omelet, hash browns, & a waffle. I told the waitress that I wanted cheddar cheese mixed with the egg batter before cooking the egg. I told her I did not want cheese sprinkled in or on top my omelet. She understood me & said ok. It took over 20 minutes to get our food! The restaurant had a few ppl so it wasn't busy at all! When I got my food, there was cheese sprinkled all over & inside my omelet. There was so much cheese that it was so stringy & I couldn't even taste the egg. That's how much cheese there was. I took couple bites & put it to the side because it was just too much for me! I was going to ask for a new omelet but I didn't want to wait another 20 minutes for an omelet! The hash browns were so oily! I couldn't even eat it! The service was great! We had an awesome waitress! But the food was terrible! read more

First off, we used to love IHOP. Until we had a rather rude run in with the manger, Izlea. We were dining in around 3:00 pm on a Sunday. The restaurant was empty. The next table of customers was approx 8 booths away from us. Our son who was 2 at the time was having a rather rough day and was playing with his iPad. Come on parents, as much as we hate to admit it, there are times where those electronics just save the day! This day was one of them. The manager was sitting near the kitchen with another employee chatting, laughing and honestly, making more of a nuisance then our sons ipad. About 3-4 minutes after we sat down, the manager came to our table and asked us if our son was watching a TV show? My husband and I looked at each other rather confused and then she proceeded to ask us to turn down the volume on his iPad because it was causing a "nuisance." I almost choked on my water because we have NEVER had a manager make such a comment, especially because the ONLY table that was anywhere near us. It was so absurd and out of line that her own employee apologized to us. An older couple came in about 20 minutes later and we asked them if our iPad was too loud and when we told them what just happened they were shocked. Also, I do like IHOP, I've always like the fact that they serve breakfast all day long, but recently the food has been horrible. We've had hair in our food along with missing plates and everything in between. Not to mention all the dinner foods are frozen and thrown in a microwave! Save some money and walk to zippys! IHOP claims to be a kid friendly restaurant, but DONT LET THAT FOOL YOU! PARENTS TO TODDLERS BEWARE!!! UPDATE: The next customer was 8 booths away from us. (video to follow) the only booth near was the manager and her employee sitting down, chatting and laughing. I'm an adult and have been a parent for MANY years, if there was any one near our table, I would have lowered the volume (which was NOT aloud to begin with) We honestly were having trouble hearing it over YOUR folks laughter. Also, myself, my husband and the 3 other people who were dining with us found the way you approached our table extremely unprofessional and rather disrespectful. So instead of apologizing, maybe you should reflect on yourself and treats your PAYING guests with respect and dignity and realize ma'am, you work at a family friendly restaurant. From what I observed, a lot of the customers were relatives of the workers. Maybe getting deals?? This may explain the high prices for a small amount of food! Gotta cover the cost somehow!
