It wasn't amazing. It's in a hotel near the pool. We went at 8 PM on a Sunday and the pool was packed with screaming kids. Just an FYI. We were sat immediately. But took another 10 minutes to take our drink order- then another 10 for drinks to come out-then another 30 for the appetizer. Second round of drinks- 10 minutes later. We were so hungry by the time the main hit the table. The specials sounded amazing, but we went with the regular menu items. Steak and Shrimp: Steak was overcooked. Great setting, underwhelming food & drinks The location is beautiful--right on the water--with friendly, fast service. Unfortunately, the food and drinks missed the mark. The Mai Tai tasted very watered down. Buffalo wings used good-quality meat but were coated in an extremely salty sauce; the fries were similarly inedible from salt. The pesto pasta was decent, but without a protein option it felt heavy--nothing to balance the sauce. Perched right on the water on the ground level of the Grand Naniloa, Ka Lihikai impressed during each meal. The servers, hosts, hostesses and bar tenders were all very friendly. The food was much much than when I stayed in the past. We tried versus items at different times and everything was cooked perfectly. The happy hour clams are delicious. The fisherman's stew was the highlight of dinner but everything hit perfectly. Not too expensive compared to many other Hawaii eateries. Definitely be back again. read more

Just moved to this side of island. Thought I'd try this place for breakfast. It's a bit pricey, but it's in a hotel, so there's that. I had the one waffles and a side of eggs, coffee. Service was decent, nice local kids working there. The ube waffles were ok. Hardly any ube sauce though. I asked for more so it was no problem. Wait, I feel like there was supposed to be Mac nuts on the waffles too and there weren't. Maybe I misread the menu though. They have complimentary coffee, and no flavored creamer(I need my coffee to taste like Disneyland) so don't pay the 6$ for their served coffee. And...maybe don't order 7$ eggs on the side. They were cooked just right, but damn 7$. It is a Hilton hotel, so who knows if that's what ups the price. read more

The keiki food was well prepared, portions were generous and there are healthy options. We enjoyed the salad with Mahi Mahi and Bao with mushrooms. Great views as usual. What could improve? Everything. Food was terrible. We ordered a burger, the chicken club wrap and the fish and chips. Burger had zero seasoning and was pretty rare even if we asked for medium well. My kid loves burgers and didn't even eat a quarter of it. Club wrap had a weird texture to the tortilla like it was fried or greased. More mushy bacon than anything else. Fish and chips was greasy and fishy and portion size was small but literally the best out of the 3 items. Two stars for the excellent service and attentive waiter. He was pleasant, friendly and even offered to take off the wrap because it was so bad. We ended up tipping him what we would've paid for the wrap. Wasn't his fault. Appreciated the customer service. We went for convenience but it wasn't worth it. Go somewhere else to eat. Even Millie's and Verna's was better than this overpriced disaster. read more

We were staying at the Hilo Hawaiian hotel and were extremely disappointed with every aspect of it. We decided to walk on over to the Hilton hotel and eat at Ka Lihikai because it had good reviews. When we entered, we were blown away and heartbroken to see what we could have been staying in. We like resort vibes and everything about this place was giving off those vibes. We were kicking ourselves for not booking here. Anyways, we ate dinner here and it was very tasty. We had the burger and tacos. Our waiter was very attentive and quick about bringing us our food and drinks. We enjoyed eating our food with this gorgeous view and we were close to the pool. Went for brunch my sister had the tacos and I, the poke nachos. Our highlight were the yummy Bloody Marys! Not just celery... I added the shrimp, bacon, olives and a lemon and lime wedge. I had two meals here, one to go and one dined in the poolside seating. Ambiance was nice, section of the property where the restaurant is overlooks Hilo Bay. Unfortunately both time I saw a hostess stand but no hostess, tables and people but no servers anywhere. When the servers finally appeared, it took a while before anyone acknowledged me. My server was friendly. The first meal I ordered to go, it was appetizer kalbi, it tasted ok, portion was super small for the $20+ price range, included a scoop of rice and kimchi and pickled vegetables. The second meal was breakfast and I ordered the avocado toast which was absolutely disgusting. I kept eating it hoping it would at some point taste better. read more

Upon waking up this morning, I was so excited to have some avocado toast and coffee. I walked down to the restaurant and stood there and waited for about 5 to 7 minutes for the hostess to reappear, as three wait staff passed by. One of the wait staff acknowledge me and said the host will be back shortly. Finally, upon the hosts return she sees me. I sit there for another five minutes as the same three weight staff walk around me past my table and no one acknowledges me. Water was not even delivered. At this point, I get up and walk out. As beautiful as the view was I couldn't sit there a second longer. I thought how awful their customer service is, and being Kamaʻāina, I was more disappointed. Seriously all I wanted was a cup of coffee and avocado toast As I walked out someone from the restaurant says " thank you". And I'm thinking thank you for what? you did nothing for me other than make me wait and not acknowledge me while I was there. I walked back up to the front desk and spoke to the manager Nigel to see if there's somewhere I could grab coffee I explained what happened at the restaurant and he said he was going to follow through by speaking to the manager of the restaurant. I thanked him and went about my day because at that point I was hungry, and frustrated and really needed some coffee Ultimately, I would give this place zero stars, however, in order to post this review, I must give them at least one star. The hidden gem in Hilo. We are local and usually don't frequent banyan drive hotels, but the ambiance and food here is incredible, especially breakfast. The Korean braised shot ribs Loco Moco is probably the best loco on island. It is unreal. Really love this place. read more

This is at the hotel the Grand Naniloa Hilton. The location is on the waterfront but it drizzles rain daily in Hilo and so the water and skies are gray blue. The beef and rice dish for breakfast has a Korean sauce which was good. The avocado toast had a dry sourdough bread with very salty avocado. There is no oatmeal option. The açaí bowl was okay with three scoops of açaí blend and a sprinkle of granola and a few blueberries and strawberries in there. It could have looked better if they had put cut fruit like bananas across the top. Vegan options are limited to the açaí bowl and avocado toast. read more

Went here tonight to find it's no longer Hula Hula's. It's still nice with the same vibe, but also with the same early closing hours. The biggest disappointment was there is no more parking. Hula Hula's did have some customer parking just outside it's restaurant, but that has been taken away and is now all valet. So, I went across the street to the junk unpaved unlit parking lot to find that it is also now only reserved for valet. If you want to visit this establishment or the hotel, expect to pay for valet. If you have friends or family coming to town, do them a favor and don't recommend this restaurant or hotel as it's a price gouge. read more

The Ulu fry basket is always "out" found out it's discontinued so just put a sticker over the item or something. Since it was not available I had the queso dip. It was the worst queso dip I have ever had. Super greasy, heavy, bad flavor. A jar from the supermarket is better. Service was good and I was not charged for the queso so that is a plus. Came here the other night with my wife and everything else was great but that really was the worst queso I have ever had hence the low stars. read more
