It looks like a food truck and shipping container, which it is but behind the container is beautiful outdoor open restaurant and a very nice bar. I will be back soon. By far the best meal we had in big island. We went to fancy places, as well as hole in the walls, but nothing compared to Bite The Eye. Not a lot of spots like this on the mainland because of the setup. You might be a little confused when you pull up, but you see the food truck, the seating area and quickly realize this place is a mainstay of the neighborhood. They actually have a happy hour (you might need to remind them about), which is cool. The servers were really nice and knowledgeable about the menu. We got the jerbo platter and poke nachos and they were outta this world. I wish I could eat more, so I could try all their stuff. We were the first customers in on Mother's Day a few minutes before they open but she still seated us. I think her name was Kris and she was fabulous. Our drinks were quick and soooooo yummy. I loved this place. Their Korean Ahi was amazing and the patty was so ono. I'm originally from Hilo but now live in Seattle. I had been planning a trip home and for months dreamed about coming here and getting my fix again. When I finally got it, I was so disappointed. The quality had declined drastically. The Korean ahi has little to no sauce on it so it's bland with zero flavor. The Ahi patty is so dry that I couldn't even finish it. I actually didn't finish the plate at all and that's a huge deal for me as I hate wasting food. My sister and friend also confirmed that it's just not what it used to be. We never really go out for food in Hilo area, usually just stay home and make our own meals. This is the one spot that is worth all the hype every single time. We've ate here several times but usually we pound the food before we even get a photo. The squid lau lau was a new item we never try before and it's my favorite I've had on island! They were out of fish but I had one of the best hamburgers and fries I have ever experienced . Whom ever the chief is I hope they pay him well. As his reputation spreads the high end restaurants will try to steal him away. The only thing that is disturbing is they only have portapotties Disturbing and almost enough to make you lose your appetite when you lift the lid to see human waste. Food here is so so good. We've gotten the Korean ahi plate for couple years now, and in the recent months they've added a Hawaiian plate, burgers and a fish burger too. The burgers are unreal. The smoke burger is next level. They added a fish burger and tired that last weekend and was bomb too. Best combo of sauce and perfect amount of fries. The Hawaiian plate is big enough to share, once you add on an extra long rice and squid luau (soooo good, perfect amount of coconut and not too sweet) We've been going twice a week lately and every thing we've gotten is excellent. Only downfall is they sell out of stuff, but guess that leads you to trying other things... so maybe not a bummer in the long run. Enjoy! Based off of my limited selection, this stop is worth pulling off the road for. Their furikake poke nachos are loaded and super 'ono. The wonton chips sare thick and stay crispy under the sauces, the perfectly seasoned poke is cut small enough that you're not balancing a cube of ahi on the end of a chip. The butter garlic ahi was off the chain. You don't get much better than fried fresh ahi drenched in garlic butter with two scoops of rice and 'ono mac salad. read more

Visiting the big island for a long weekend and we visited the restaurant twice! Best ahi I've ever had. We had the blackened ahi and the Korean fried ahi. The blackened ahi is served rare on inside vs the Korean fried it is cooked through. I preferred the blackened ahi but my girlfriend prefers the Korean fried! Portions are huge and we shared a plate between us on both visits. We tried all the poke varieties as well and they were all good but our favorite was the furikake. I've seen so many of my friends post pictures of this place that I've been itching to try it. The food truck is located in the parking lot in near Sears. If you follow their Instagram, they announce the days they come (usually Wednesday to Saturday) to Hilo. I believe they're opening their own store soon in Keeau! My friends and I all got the mini Korean ahi plates with spicy ahi, mac salad, and sweet potatoes. At first glance, the food portion looked small, but it was actually really filling. The smell of the food was crazy amazing, and I couldn't wait to eat it as I drove home with the food. The Korean ahi was fried and seasoned really well. The flavor and oil (lol) danced in my mouth as I ate. The only thing was that the ahi was a little overcooked. The spicy ahi was amazing! It had a sweetish tinge with a bit of spiciness, and I could taste the freshness of the fish. Loved it! The mac salad was surprisingly beyond my expectations. It was full of flavor and had a hint of spiciness which is usually not expected, and I think it became one of my fav mac salads that I've eaten. Definitely recommend if you're in Hilo. It was our first time and we really wanted to like the place, but for the price of the burgers we ordered, we would've gotten better burgers and service at Kaleo's. My husband ordered the Boss burger ($15) and I had the Smoke burger ($16) and to me they tasted exactly the same. Just bun, meat, cheese, spinach and sauce. When I asked the cashier/bartender/waitress if the Smoke burger included smoked meat, she said no it's just Worcestershire sauce. Ok. I ordered it anyhow. And when I asked what kind of salad it came with (cause fries or salad was an option and my husband got the fries) she said just greens. And it literally was, just spinach. And with a "vinaigrette" dressing that tasted like oil. I mean the food wasn't terrible. The buns were nice and soft and the sauce was tasty but for the same price, you can get more (including lettuce, tomato and onions) up the road. Went to the food truck in Hilo yesterday and the wait was WAY too long. Never had to wait at any other food truck as long as this. Wish they would've told me there was a complicated order before me, because I needed to get back home to my elderly grandma and it wasn't good. Just thought I would stop by this place on my way through errands, but ended up being a real disappointment. The food will fill you up, but nothing spectacular. Upon actually looking into BTE while researching what I wanted to order, I was really surprised by not only the variety of plates they serve, but also the quality. Like, even in the picture, it looked really damn good. After much deliberation, I wound up deciding on the Korean ahi. When it came time to finally eat and take the attached photo, it was unfortunately some 45 minutes later, after I'd helped with the work thing that got it for me in the first place, so the Korean sauce had kind of soaked into the breading of the ahi. Picture-wise, I think it could have really benefited aesthetically from being taken while it was fresh, but taste-wise, it was still bomb. Super tasty, flavorful sauce and definitely quality ahi. I was 100% doing the thing where you try to find every single grain of rice that had soaked up even the tiniest bit of it after I was done. So good. That's not even mentioning the mac salad and sweet potato that were totally on-point as well.
