Finally after so long of wanting to try this place, my bf and I got to stop by today just before closing. Simple Menu, I follow them on Instagram to see the menu and check when they're open. This visit we got the 2 Choice $14.50 Blackened Ahi W/ Hawaiian Ahi Poké and Kimchi as a side. Also the $10 Korean Ahi Plate Special which they had between 1:30pm- 3pm/sold-out. First of all the Korean Ahi plate was PLENTIFUL portion wise and very delicious, me and my daughter loved it and didn't even finish the plate. Still get plenty more. Now as for the 2 Choice plate my bf got, it was so so delicious. The Blackened was excellent, peppery and perfectly salted with a soft rare center. The Hawaiian Ahi my bf kinda liked (I loved it) I think it was too spicy for him so he said he would try the furikake ahi next time and the Kimchi was winnas. It's really gone downhill in the last several months. My family just brought back food and it was literally undercooked and WAY over-salted. The size of the meals are also more sloppy than they used to be when we went last year. Oh man, where to start... Since Bite The Eye Foodtruck started at S. Tokunaga store, they have consistently been hands down the best food in Hilo!! The unrivaled consistency of the quality and taste of their food is truly amazing, and they have continuously evolved and offered unique menu options to the Hilo Community. Ka'i Trask, owner and local fisherman, has very high standards for the fish and other ingredients that he serves, and will refuse to open the doors unless these standards are met. Bite the eye only uses the freshest locally-caught, never frozen/gassed fish from local Hawai'i Fisherman, and one bite will provide all the evidence you need. The Korean Ahi seasoning is legendary, and I warn friends and acquaintances that they may become addicted if they even try it once. The Blackened Ahi is my personal favorite, and I recommend eating it as soon as you are able to, as the ahi slices come out of the pan to the plate, still slowly cooking from the exterior in, and is a taste that I will never forget. From the sweet sushi rice to the fresh U'ala that comes with the plates, a Bite the Eye plate is something that I look forward to for days before I am able to have it. Don't even get me started on the Poke... Bite the eye Spicy Ahi is my personal favorite, and I get it with every plate that I purchase. The Furikake poke is also a very popular seasoning, and you truly cannot go wrong either way. With a $3 add on for a generous scoop of delicious fresh poke, it is a must for all plates! Bite the Eye's delicious food does all the talking, as this 100% locally owned and operated small business does not need to advertise. Besides a loyal Instagram following for weekly hours and special promotions, the legendary plates of Bite the Eye are promoted through word of mouth by happy customers who have had the opportunity to try out this one-of-a-kind local meal experience. This may be my 3rd Yelp post ever, but this business deserves this review and many more! I can say without a doubt that it is my favorite lunch option in all of Hilo, which boast some legitimate seafood options all around. I'm embarrassed that I've lived in Hilo for over a year and just now discovered this place. Based on the reviews I clearly have to go back and try the ahi, but since other reviews don't seem to mention it, let me put in a word for the breaded mahi mahi burger. It's not a burger, really, it's a mahi mahi filet, breaded and friend and served on a bun with lettuce, tomato and sauce, and it's the best fish sandwich you ever had. I just absolutely loved this little food truck. Its currently located in the Sears Auto parking lot if you arent sure but they keep switching locations. Google maps actually had the incorrect location for this truck. We went there two days in a row to try out their fresh seafood fare.On the 1st day we tried out their Korean Ahi, Ahi tuna patties and blackened Ahi. On the second day we tried out their pork abodo and korean style mahi mahi. the Korean Ahi and Mahi mahi are deep fried takes on korean chicken. the Pork abodo was delicate and not pulled. the Ahi tuna patties almost tasted like crab cakes. All of these were Delicious if you cant tell! Very fresh and very tasty. Preparation doesn't take much time. A few things to be aware of though: 1. Location - check the location of the food truck on instagram. 2. Cash only - super duper annoying but they are cash only. 3. Review #14 for 2018. Food trucks have been a part of Hawaii's local culture for decades, and even more have popped up in recent years due to the "trend" happening in the US. A couple months ago a friend told me I needed to try the food truck in the Tokunaga parking lot because the fish was really good. I love fish (and food in general), and I love supporting local businesses, so I've been excited to try this place out. I finally got to try Bite the Eye on Friday, and I'm so happy that I did! There are basically two options at this place: poke or fried fish. There are different flavors, and you can get poke over salad instead of rice. I want to try the poke next time, but this time I went for the Korean fried ahi, which was great! The sauce was a sweet shoyu-garlic sauce over some generous chunks of fried ahi, and it all came together really well. Quality. The plate also comes up sweet potatoes, rice, and kim chi, and the portion is big enough that I was full. I think most local braddahs would be satisfied by the amount of food. Choke people go by Tokunaga's every day, and even more pass by on Manono St, so Bite the Eye is well worth trying! I'll be back. read more

I ordered the half Korean combo, once with Korean ahi and blackened ahi and twice with Korean mahi mahi and pork adobo. The pork was the best I had while on the big island, and the fish was amazing! They treat their Ahi and I'd imagine all of their ingredients the right way. (i go there at least once a week, even if it's just to grab a bento.) my go to custom plate: korean ahi (extra sauce) with a scoop of poke, add an ahi patty and an extra side of kim chee, all on top sushi rice lol. sometimes I change it up and get the blackened ahi on a salad or I buy the poke by the pound (all three flavors are bomb). all the portions are huge and it's always choke food - so depending on what you get/how much you add on, two people can likely share a plate (or not). they also have "seasonal delicacies" now and then which I've tried and they are all 'ono too! pork adobo, laulau, beach chicken - yum! ...just gotta follow their insta to keep up with their schedule/locations and the new menu items. if you're in/around hilo, DEFINITELY go check them out! read more

What can I say that hasn't already been said. Best plate lunch (for the price) in Hilo. It's not just that each individual item tastes great. It's that each individual item compliments each other. I'm not really a mac salad lover but I always order 2 portions when I come here. It's that good. I favor the ahi patties slightly over the korean ahi but the korean ahi really is the star of the show. I wish it was available during dinner time but if I ran a lunch wagon I'd also want that time to myself and my family so both real gripe there. ummmmm.... upsetting to say bite the eye didn't live up to the hype. first of all, the customer service was not up to par. the food was surprising. the rice was wet and soggy, as if they had just took it out of the pot and put it in the plate. i couldn't even see RICE GRAINS it was that soggy. (which i actually paid 3$+ for more). the poke was underwhelming, and it was NOT cleaned well. it's so sad to say that the sweet potato was the best thing in the plate. we were so excited to eat here :( super disappointing. maybe just an off day? read more
