Drink menu

Kind of hidden gem in Puna/ainaloa area. The service is great and so is the food. From the road you might think "um, what this?" It looks like a food truck and shipping container, which it is but behind the container is beautiful outdoor open restaurant and a very nice bar. I will be back soon. Nice to have a close place to eat and grab drink.

Poke nachos & Jerbo platter

By far the best meal we had in big island. We went to fancy places, as well as hole in the walls, but nothing compared to Bite The Eye. Not a lot of spots like this on the mainland because of the setup. You might be a little confused when you pull up, but you see the food truck, the seating area and quickly realize this place is a mainstay of the neighborhood. They actually have a happy hour (you might need to remind them about), which is cool. The servers were really nice and knowledgeable about the menu. We got the jerbo platter and poke nachos and they were outta this world. I wish I could eat more, so I could try all their stuff. Def will make the drive next time we're back on big island.

My first time being here since they opened the new seating & bar area. If I didn't rave enough about this place before I love it even more now. We were the first customers in on Mother's Day a few minutes before they open but she still seated us. I think her name was Kris and she was fabulous. Our drinks were quick and soooooo yummy. She offered us menus but we already knew what we wanted. Driving there I knew I wanted the Korean ahi. Welp when I got there after seeing the special menu that changed. The bf had the Korean ahi which he said it was really good but I had the ahi pasta. Best meal I have had since moving back to the Big Island. Can't wait to head back there one night that they have live music. My new favorite place on this side of the island.

Korean ahi and ahi patty

I loved this place. Their Korean Ahi was amazing and the patty was so ono. I'm originally from Hilo but now live in Seattle. I had been planning a trip home and for months dreamed about coming here and getting my fix again. When I finally got it, I was so disappointed. The quality had declined drastically. The Korean ahi has little to no sauce on it so it's bland with zero flavor. The Ahi patty is so dry that I couldn't even finish it. I actually didn't finish the plate at all and that's a huge deal for me as I hate wasting food. My sister and friend also confirmed that it's just not what it used to be. Hope they can get back to what they used to be. This was a huge let down, because this was a MUST whenever I was home.

Ahi Burger and Fries Ahi Butter Pasta Poke Nachos Firecracker Poke Bowl!!! Ice Cold Beer

Food Is Amazing!! Environment and Setting was real local style!!! Service was unbeatable. We got our food within 10 minutes, our waitress came to check on us 3 times, but the food was deliciously Ono ( good) 5 Definitely recommending!!!

Korean Ahi

BITE THE FREAKING EYE!!!!! This place is so gas you don't even know. I would eat the Korean ahi every day if I could. This food truck has all the local grinds you can imagine. Whether it's the ahi, poke, nachos, they have it all. The best $16 you'll ever spend mark my words. This place is life changing and once you go you end up going back and craving it. I can go on and on but you get the gist. If you're in Hilo check them out in the parking lot of KFC, Jamba, and Starbucks.

Cool atmosphere

Great atmosphere, good service, the food and drinks were amazing! Also enjoyed the live music. I had the crabby patty bowl, and the house special drinks of Holy Ube Chi Chi and Ube martini. All were amazing!

Probably the best food we had while in Hilo. They also have cooked fish options for those who don't like raw fish. BRING CASH.

A solid neighborhood spot with a few standouts and some room to grow…read more We've been to Kaleo's a few times now, and we'll definitely keep coming back. It's close, there's always parking, and it's got that laid-back, local energy where you can laugh loud and no one's going to shoot you a look. It does get loud inside, but in that kind of way that makes it feel like everybody's having a good time, not like you're in a cafeteria. Just don't expect a quiet dinner conversation, unless you're reading lips. The service? Always sweet, always kind. Lily (I think that's the correct spelling!) has taken care of us more than once and she's a gem... warm, attentive, and easy to chat with. She's the kind of person who remembers what you ordered last time and tells you honestly what's good. As for the food... Bacon Blue Burger: My husband had this last time and it was yum. Juicy, flavorful, hits all the right rich notes without being greasy. That one's a solid order. Ribs: The barbecue sauce was really good... but the ribs themselves were dry and overdone. Not terrible, but not what I'd call a win either. If they could just dial in the texture, that sauce would carry it home. Kalbi Short Ribs: Best thing on the menu so far. Tender, rich, and full of flavor. Get those. Mashed Potatoes: "All mash" is the move. They're creamy and comforting... total comfort food. Hamburger Steak: Another standout. Probably one of the best in the area. Classic done right. Thai Chicken Pasta: Watch out... it's got some serious heat! Spicy, but good. Not for the faint of tongue, but worth it if you're into that kind of kick. Lilikoi Fizz: Really tasty but heavy on the lilikoi. If they eased up and added a little more club soda, it would be more balanced. Desserts: * Lava Cake was good... warm and classic. * Chocolate Decadent Cake was just okay. It comes fridge-cold (probably so it doesn't melt), but I feel like if they let it sit out for ten minutes before serving, it would be way better. * Brownie Sundae was yum, according to my husband... and I trust his dessert radar. All in all, Kaleo's is the kind of place you root for. You want them to keep getting better, and they mostly are. The hits are worth coming back for, and even the misses aren't deal-breakers. We'll be back, and we're excited to keep trying more of the menu.

While they appear to be a casual, local, hippy establishment (and they are). The food and wait is worth every penny, (and pennies are more valuable now). You will hear live music when you approach building. It's bright and colorful, open air and you can feel your inner artist being inspired. The place is packed but you find a seat and listen to the laughter, singing, and sizzles from the kitchen. It's small and bundles of fruit seam to just be around everywhere. Your server gives you a menu and you think. "Oh wow! That's a bit pricy." But you're all in. Considering this place is proud of its farm to table reputation. Yes, nothing goes to waist here and it as fresh as you can possibly get. So you order and wait. And you wait, and you wait. Finally the plate arrives and it's beautiful. A paradise of fruit, veggie filled omelet and some things you're not sure if you can eat them or if it's just decoration. (You can eat them) Have you ever heard of a cranberry hibiscus? I'm not a fan of salsa with my eggs but they make their own from scratch and they also sell it. So I have to at least try it. "What is in this! Magic?" Before you know it a whole days life experience has just happened. There were ups, there were downs, and surprises. Not just from the food but the whole surroundings. Let's just say nothing was left on the plate and I have stories to tell. Our server was the sweetest older lady who you can tell just loved her job and people. In fact all the workers were just rays of sunshine and smiles. Did I just have breakfast or walk into a magical world where time stood still and surrounded me in song and colors. I swear I don't do substances, it's just that good.

When we arrived, we were seated promptly. The noise level was decently low, even with live music, and we were so happy for that. Here lately, every place we have gone has been sooo loud to where we couldn't have a conversation, so this was a nice touch. Our waitress came to grab our orders promptly and brought our drinks quickly. We decided on mozzarella sticks for an appetizer, a pesto burger no tomato with a garden patty, and another garden burger plain and dry, both with fries. Food came out decently swiftly, and everything looked amazing! The fries were piping hot and absolutely wonderful: perfectly crispy, not greasy, with flavor and perfect seasoning. The pesto burger was soo good. The pesto itself had a great flavor without being overbearing or oily. I loved the slice of fresh mozzarella. The burger itself was cooked perfectly, and the bread was nice and toasty without being hard. The mozzarella sticks were fantastic, not greasy at all, and were decently sized. I really liked the marinara it came with, which it was flavorful without being overbearing and the only thing we could taste. I assume the garden burger was equally enjoyed, for there was no conversation coming from that side of the table. Oh, and he stole the rest of my fries. Thief!! This was a great decision. The interior screams dive bar in an interesting way, but that food? Definitely not greasy spoon or quickly thrown together dive bar appetizers, that's for sure! We will definitely come back!

There was also live music with a lady playing guitar solo and singing! Service was amazing! We never had to wait long to order/get the bill. We were most impressed by the fact that the waitress made sure to split our Hilo local plate into two plates to make it much easier to share! We almost thought we had received two orders because of how well-plated they were. - Poke tower (8/10): Solid choice for an appetizer! There were ample portions of poke, and the flavors were nice. Not a super stand out dish though. - Hilo local plate (9.5/10): If you want to taste a wide range of Hawaiian cuisine in one dish, I would highly recommend getting this one! The Kalbi ribs were sooo good! They were juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor. The Kalua pork was pretty good, and both meats paired well with the rice which had an interesting savory haupia sauce drizzled on it. The mango chili slaw and pineapple salsa added a nice tang to balance everything out. - Triple lilikoi pie (5/10): Wayyy too sweet and sugary for our liking, and you can barely taste the lilikoi flavor. We ended up just picking at the graham cracker crust and couldn't finish the rest. It seemed like one of those desserts that are premade unfortunately, and we wish we hadn't ordered this dessert.

The big letdown was the ambiance. We were seated facing the street and parking lot the entire time ...no view...., just sad street. Overall, it didn't live up to the hype. Not terrible, but definitely not worth going out of your way for. The staff were all very nice though. Service friendly.
