It pains me to say bad things about what in theory should be a wonderful restaurant, but Iggie's is a complete failure on just about every level. It's really shocking to read so many glowing reviews of this place, but I suppose people who like overpriced, paper thin, borderline burnt pizza who also like to be abused and condescended to by restaurant employees and owners need a place to eat too. Trying to eat at Eddie's is a confusing and counter intuitive experience. It's as if they're TRYING to make things as difficult on their customers as possible, and then jump at the chance to talk down their noses to anyone who steps out of line. Iggie's is the closest approximation to a real life Seinfeld Soup Nazi as you're going to get. And you don't even have to step foot into the restaurant for them to be rude to you...go to their website and read their "Rules" section. It's the snarkiest and most obnoxious thing I've seen a place trying to earn business do. If I had read that before my one and only trip here, I wouldn't have even bothered. It's an indication of the attitude you can expect to receive when you eat here. If I had to choose between the customer service here and at Red Emma's (the most obnoxiously snobby coffee shop in Baltimore), I'd be legitimately torn, and that's saying something. As for the food, the portions are very small for the high prices, and as mentioned above, the pizzas are paper thin, borderline burnt, and on the whole pretty bland. I honestly felt taken advantage of after I took my first bite. I'm glad that a locally owned place is thriving just around the corner from me, but I refuse to patronize Iggie's ever again. read more

The only reason I would recommend anyone to eat here is for the purpose of having a story to tell and laugh about your entire life. There were 4 of us who blindly decided to eat here because of the 5 star yelp and baltimore reviews. We've always found yelp to be helpful in the past but last night it really led us astray. For any Seinfeld fans out there may the vision of a screaming cook and eating in fear of the soup nazi be in the back of our mind for this entire review, because that is a christmas tale compared to the iron fist at this place. Let me just stop the rambling and tell you this, eat someplace else. Minus the cashier the entire staff including the manager, owner, cook, dining room attendant were all so rude that no amount of taste in the world could make up for it. The owner/manger basically is a control freak who condescends with a great big smile. We ate there last night and can't stop talking about how horrible it was. We have told everyone we know about how bad the food was and how bad we were treated there. For the record, lets touch base on the food, the pizza was burnt, overpriced and had no flavor, the staff didn't hide being insulted that we asked for garlic powder and/or parm cheese which is pretty standard in a pizza place, but not this one..because they are so wrapped up in being above it all that the only thing you get in this place is attitude. Its BYOB and consider that when I tell you there were 4 of us and it was over $100. Please if you want good pizza that is less mainstream go right down the street to Joe Square OR skip that and order in from Egyptian Pizza. This place is horrible, I don't give one stars lightly. I wouldn't eat there again if it were free of charge, it was the most uncomfortable dining experience of my entire life. After one horrible minute after another at this place the STAFF reminded us "don't forget to buss your table ladies"....U'm thanks can we get out of our chairs first, Do I wok here or did I just pay $100 for Pita Pizza here? I don't know. I left there feeling like I was in a bad relationship. PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF....don't buy into the 3,4,5 star reviews or the person at the corner cafe who said they got a great pizza there....this place sucks and if the food was bad at least the people there could have made it better but it was only what I can imagine eating in prison feels like.... I read the reviews and like a good thin crust pizza so took my family to check it out.I have to say I was not impressed. Crust had no flavor We had the spicy pizza along with a mushroom special.Both kids had the small plain cheese pizza. One child loved it, the other did not like at all. While not bad, I do not understand the hype. We showed up just before noon on a Saturday and we were the only ones there the entire time. Perhaps that should have been a clue. My now wife and I recently just had our rehearsal dinner at Iggies. We could not have been more thrilled than with our experience there! We have eaten there before (absolutely love their pizza) and figured it would make for a great cozy atmosphere, so we figured why not! When we also looked at the great prices to host a lot of people and the fact it is BYOB, we were absolutely sold! The owners were always in constant contact with me, leading up to the rehearsal dinner. As anyone who has been married and had to throw a party for many family and friends - they definitely know how stressful it can be. The owners and staff were so incredibly accommodating and took a lot of the stress off with the careful planning and food estimations for 30 people! Even as we had late arrivals and had to make a few more food orders, there were absolutely no issues getting that food prepared. Many people afterwards complemented me on how Iggies had such a warming and inviting feeling - that most rehearsal dinners can feel too "formal." I totally agree and I really cannot give enough complements towards Iggies. I know my wife and I will always fondly remember our great experience there! read more

I revamped my review. The manger maybe who was there this evening, Matt.....what a terrible business person! My parents come in every Friday that they're in town. I'm in town from Boston, and I wanted to eat here as well, as I lived in Baltimore for 3 years and I introduced my parents to this place. Tonight, this guy Matt totally ruined our evening. We all got salads. Arugula with lemon oil dressing and Parm cheese. That's all the salad was, but it was pretty delicious so worth the $7.50. I happened to asked one of the chefs for more parm cheese....I'm new to liking Arugula and I just wanted a little more....but this guy, who absolutely knows my parents, and if he doesn't he's an even worse manager than I'm giving him credit for....because literally every Friday, I can assume my parents are at Iggies. So I ask, I literally just want a pinch more, and he tells me that he has to charge me for a side of cheese. I'm sorry, what? I completely understand....Good Parm Cheese is expensive....but my parents are loyal to your business and they refer other people to you and I didn't want much, and you ticked off my mom and ruined the one evening that I get to spend with my parents for the next several months. I've worked in the restaurant business, and I work in healthcare and patient satisfaction and I know that even in healthcare we worry about patient satisfaction. I wasn't rude or inappropriate, no need to rudely tell me "no it's too expensive" and then proceed to come back and basically shove the extra cheese in my face like it was a huge deal. The side, btw was WAY more than what I needed or wanted. I'm just frustrated that clearly their regular customers mean so little to them. My parents will be back, the love the pizza....but I won't be sending my friends in the area or visiting the area there. it makes me sad because I've always like the owners. read more

I am saddened to give a previously loved pizza spot only two stars, but I feel the experience I just had warrants it: I approached the chef shortly after ordering our pizzas and politely asked if he could add a little less oil on our order (they usually add EVO after baking, but the last time I came my pizza was literally swimming). His response was: "So you don't want shiny hair and skin? It's just olive oil! Fine then. I won't add ANY." The response was so disgruntled and unexpected that I just said okay and walked away. The pizza was great, but I found it difficult to relax & enjoy my meal after such an unnecessarily aggressive exchange with the chef. Iggie's is moving to Towson, where I attend graduate school and spend much of my time. My friends and I were craving pizza one night and decided to try this place out. It's under new management now, and I was absolutely astonished and amazed by the variety and quality of the pizza. I honestly loved the pizza of the month which had squash in it instead of tomato sauce. Not to mention the service was top class! I LOVE the pizza here. It has been my favorite place to go for the 4 years I have lived in Baltimore. The pizza is a little expensive, but it's always been worth it for me. Recently, however, I have been a little upset by the sarcasm and rudeness of the staff, especially the pizza maker. If you go to their website and read their extraordinarily sarcastic rules, you'll understand what I'm saying. The pizza maker clearly is sick of doing his job, and sick of people who make the mistake of asking if their pizza is ready. I get that people can be annoying and don't follow directions, but when you work in the service industry, you just have to deal with it, you can't put up all these sarcastic signs in your restaurant directed at your customers, we're the ones paying you! Maybe it's just me, as that kind of rude sarcasm doesn't sit well with me, but I think it's rather rude to behave in that way towards your customers. My least favorite rule on their website indicates that you should not consider staying after your pizza is done to have another drink or as they say "make a night of it." Okay, you're busy, I get it. And I am usually aware of the line when my friends and I are talking after we've eaten, but what restaurant doesn't encourage you to stay and order more?! I love the pizza a LOT, so it will be hard for me to not go back, but I may consider going less. There's an attitude there that I feel like is getting worse as the couple that runs it gets older and grumpier. read more

I like Iggie's Pizza, but I never eat there. It is always a madhouse and it's nearly impossible to just walk in and get a table. The pizza is delicious, but I do feel as though it is overpriced. Two large pizzas and a caesar salad (my general order for our family) costs around $50. I also wish they would offer a discount for their Take-And-Bake service (they give you the pizza in a box and you take it home and bake it yourself). It seems that you are saving them the time and trouble of baking the pizza for you, so you should at least get $1 off. Despite my minor gripes though, I do enjoy the food. The Fungi (mushrooms with leeks and goat cheese) is my favorite. read more

I love Iggie's and I'm not afraid to put all my "respeck" on it. I've been frequenting this spot on and off for about eight years now. It's BYOB and dog friendly which is a rare combination that needs to be implemented more in this area. When you order a pizza from this spot, you are guaranteed to receive a pizza with very fresh, quality ingredients made by true pizza perfectionists. The vibes are always on point here. I love the music choices. The other day I walked in and heard a great selection of Miles Davis while enjoying a couple small pizzas with my date. Like I mentioned before, it's BYOB but they do offer a rare selection of sodas, water and non alcoholic sparkling drinks as well. I forget the name of the ginger ale that they have, but it's pure ginger so with every sip, it actually cleaned out my sinuses pretty good. I recommended it if you want a nice sneeze. LOVE this place!! A BYOB in Baltimore is such a treat. It's right around the corner, and we come here all the time. The place is OK looking, nothing too special, but I do appreciate their dog themed art. Order at the counter, you get a cute little animal sign on a pole and they will bring out your order pretty quickly. Staff that takes your order is always friendly and helpful. Their pizzas are to die for, love the Alice: basil pesto, mozarello, goat cheese, spinach- so yummy! The Milo & Mico is a great choice as well- no cheese, which brings out the anchovies flavor even more. The small pies are perfectly sized for one, the bigger ones are great for sharing. Only downside to this place is that I wish that had more outdoor seating. read more

If you are meeting friends and would like to sit together this is not the place for you. The restaurant is self serve which suggests that you may choose where you sit. They have two communal tables and like to fill them before filling the private tables. They wanted our six person party to squeeze in between two others parties at a communal table. They are unbelievably rude and uptight about where people sit. My advise to them is get a hostess and servers if you want to control where people can and can not sit. There is a sign that says don't talk to the pizza man he is mean...this is not a joke! He is miserable and nasty. It is very evident that the staff at Iggies is unhappy; I guess that is why they don't treat their patrons with courtesy or respect. read more

Brought my family over for a quick lunch, we ordered a large pizza which to me was the size of a small or medium compared to other pizza places. The flavor of the pizza was very good but the crust was almost cardboard like. BYOB is a huge draw for a pizza spot, as is "bring your pet" (but I don't have one). I liked that the smalls are cut into six, two-bite sized slices. Makes sharing easy. The cheese selection and freshness was good on all three. The red sauce is mediocre, overly sweet, and too pasty to distinguish itself from others. The crust is a mess.. similar to pita or frozen dough, it's overly chewy and tough yet with no crispness and very simple flavor--it serves mainly as a vehicle for what's on top. Plating is dull, no garnish, small plates fit small pizzas but depressing in bland simplicity. If you're worried about price, this is a bit steep for pizza. I can eat at least two smalls in one sitting, whereas one Matthews or Tutti Gusti pizza feeds me for two sittings at roughly the same price. 1) Alice - Refreshing and light. The tomatoes are crisp and juicy. There is enough pesto to keep this white from getting dry, and it runs off the crust after a first bite. Definitely try this. 2) Diavola - Mediocre sausage and red-sauce, rather dry as a result, and without much spice despite hot sausage and peppers. The olives add a nice, light bitterness, but overall this feels heavy and clunky. 3) Anatra Arrosta - Overcooked, stringy duck atop a dry white pizza leads to a heavy, overwhelming experience. Great variety of Pizzas, I tried the Veg Solo, Alicie, Fungi, and Margarita. My favorites would be the Veg Solo and Margarita, both are taste great! On large pizzas, you can split them up so you can try 4 different types on two large pizzas. BYOB is also a huge plus and makes for a great group hangout spot Friday or Saturday night. My only issue is that upon requesting the pizza well done, was told 'all our pizzas are well done.' However, the crust came out slightly soggy and did not hold the weight off all the toppings as I'd hoped. Minor detail, but next time will be requesting extra well done. It's good - but definitely not the best pizza in Baltimore - both Hersh's and Verde are better in so many ways. Iggies is not a typical Italian (let alone Neapolitan) or New York or any other style pizza. They do things that some people (yours truly included) would consider sacrilege. Brushing the fresh dough with olive oil, putting ingredients that have no business being on a pizza, etc. Also, the dough is not really your typical pizza dough - it's crispier. All said and done, I like the atmosphere and every now and than it's good to change things up and go for something less traditional and more creative. read more

I would call myself a pizza connoisseur. Maybe not enough to put on my resume, but certainly enough to tell someone on the street where the best pizza is in the area. And Iggies is one of my favorite pizza spots in Mount Vernon. Their toppings are delicious (pears, gorgonzola and balsamic!), and it's thinnish crust so you end up eating a ton of it. I come to Mount Vernon often to see plays at Center Stage and always eat dinner first. It was nice to have Iggies just up the street from the theater. I like their food (tasty salads, tuna with pasta, pizza), but I no longer can deal with Iggies' special brand of rudeness where the customer is always wrong. Every time that I consider returning, I think of how unpleasant it is to eat amid the frowning and scolding staff. So.... Italian-style, Californian-style, Baltimore-style, I just don't know! With the majority of the pizzas named in Italian, I'm going to say that Iggie's is striving to serve Italian-style pizza, va bene? So, with that said, there are two very small changes that if Iggies made, would actually make the pizza much more "Italian" and much better: 1) lose the garlic-infused olive oil dousing that the "meany" pizza cooker (not chef) insists on giving every pizza (if there isn't any garlic in the oil, then 1) reduce the garlic on each pizza by at least 1/2 and 2) tell the mean guy that in Italy, the olive oil that is delicately and sparingly drizzled on their pizzas is of edible quality, not the cheap stuff that you cook with (and Iggies uses)...not showered on like he's putting out a fire (he's actually putting out the taste!) 2) Reduce the quantity of stuff (ie "toppings") that is dumped on each pizza...When the four "individual"/small (not individual, see following comment) pizzas came out, my first impression was - the crust (the crust is what Iggies gets really right in my opinion) was made by an Italian, but the toppings were added by a former employee of Papa John's- way, way too much topping--- subtly is the KEY to good pizza. Iggie's pizzas are not subtle..not at all and last, the price. There is a choice and we chose to get four small pizzas for three people which worked out fine. However, they each cost around $9 and if I had to order 1 for me alone, it would have been too little food for too much money. Half the toppings, Iggies and you will be able to lower the price.... Would I go back- sure, the concept is good, the pizzas were tasty and the people (except for the comic-character mean pizza guy) were nice. however, it was disappointing only in that the crust (the most important part of the pizza) was perfect but assassinated by the topics, garlic and shower of olive oil.... I think this place is a little deceiving. This isn't your run-of-the-mill pizza joint on the boardwalk in Jersey or streets of NYC. I wish it was. When you're craving real NY style pizza or grinders.... this won't hit the spot. While the food is very good - I'd say it's more like flatbreads than pizza. The place is hopping most every evening and when CENTERSTAGE is in season, the line is practically out the door. But fear not . .. .your gourmet, personalized pizza is done in a zip and you can go on your way in no time! Be forewarned that there is no table services so you are required to collect and bus yo table but, the owners are always thinking of the community so take that tip money and give it to their charity of the week! My wife and I each had a large pizza and we also ordered 1 misto salad . For $7.25 the salad was very small . Decent dressing and fresh greens though . We ordered a margarita pizza and a white pistachio pizza . Both were good although the crust was definitely not as good as was the case with the previous owners . Not as crispy . Just really ok. Only three stars??? I've had the pleasure of consuming Iggies pizza several times. Quality ingredients. cool animal-lover vibe, community-oriented, unique pizza options, good atmosphere. Not your run-of-the-mill pizza joint. However, I find the taste to be inconsistent. They often use generous helpings of oil. Overload! Also, I had raved about Iggies to my boyfriend so we finally checked it out together. We ordered the 2011 Pizza of the Year, Selvaggio. It was a disaster. It was like the pizza maker sprinkled salt and the top came off so s/he attempted to brush off as much as possible before calling our number. We certainly exceeded our 2,400 mg of sodium that day. We actually trashed two slices (ugh, abomination!) and walked away hungry but because it was drown in oil and salt, we had no appetite. read more

Went here ~3 p.m. on a Wednesday afternoon when my dining companion's first choice for an open restaurant wasn't open for a late lunch. We were literally the only ones in the restaurant. A tip for those grousing about how busy the place is. While Iggie's claims to be a Neapolitan pizza joint, I don't see the need or validity to compare this place to 2 Amy's or Red Rocks. The pizza I had didn't have that Apocalypse Now scorched feeling that DC Neapolitan pizzas often have. And yes, I know the little bit of burnt crust is supposed to be a mark of how "authentic" a Neapolitan pizza is, but if I want to taste burnt bread I'll throw a few slices in the toaster. Had the spinach salad with warm pancetta dressing as a starter. Not bad, but nothing particularly memorable about it except for the fact that it wasn't a traditional spinach salad (you know, the one with boiled eggs and mushrooms and yadda yadda). The Salsiccia pizza, with sausage, fennel, and the double barreled goodness of smoked mozzarella and taleggio cheeses, was a little baked morsel o' heaven. Also, a sign explaining the whole concept of Iggie's as a "self-service" joint might be helpful. Iggie's serves great, creative and simple pizzas and is consistently YUM. Mac & Cheese is also a tasty alternative to pizza..and you should definitely get a salad to start your meal. I particularly love the funghi pizza, but that's the mushroom lover in me. What's even more fantastic about this place is that it's BYOB, so you can bring the best of your wine cellar out to dinner with you. It's only too bad that they are no longer open on Monday nights, which used to be the half off pizza night...:( In any case, it's about time that Baltimore got a decent pizza place and while this isn't that NY pizza, it's certainly worth a try. read more
