I passed by Iggies a few times and was always curious. I had heard pretty good things about their pizza and then I finally heard from the Yelp grapevine that they have gluten free crust. I stopped by for a casual personal pizza one afternoon. I got the Alice pizza on gluten free crust and added pepperoni. It was pretty good! I liked the combination of the different cheeses and the types of pepperonis that they used - nice and small and curled up at the edges. While the toppings were delicious, I wasn't the biggest fan of the crust. It held up well and was nice and thin and crispy but it just wasn't my favorite GF crust I've ever had. The inside is cute but doesn't seem to get many eat-in customers. Besides the owners and his friends, we were the only people in there. Definitely seems like more of a takeout spot. They also have gelato but it didn't appear to be very gelato-ey. Don't expect anything authentic. I would return but I'm not in a rush. read more

I ordered mozzarella sticks and the mixed salad. For one the menu says cucumbers and sun-dried tomatoes, and I got a salad without cucumbers, and old tomatoes that were not dried just looked kinda old. The mozzarella sticks barely warm, and very bad quality, and watery marinera sauce. I went back to address the missing items on the salad, and while talking to the man who kept telling me the tomatoes were sun-dried (not). A roach crawled across the floor and he stomped on it. You can find free street parking easily in the neighborhood and there's indoor and outdoor seating so this is a cute place to get together with friends or for a date. Now after a long time not having it (health, fat gal problems, but also parking), I got excited that they still exist and got my favorite pistachio pizza. There is new management and the pizza is not the same. I ordered 2 slices ad usually on Tuesday they give you a medium if you just order the slices. I paid $10 for 2 slices of pizza which is not their normal. Everyone is friendly, and our orders have always been delicious. We've tried margherita pizza, funghi pizza, fungi portobello pizza, Caesar salad, chicken tenders, fries, and Create Your Own Pizza with spicy sausage and pepperoni. The high-quality sauce and toppings make it our go-to spot. However, I will not give a full five stars due to a recent visit when the owners were absent. Ambiance: Very casual pizza place with order-at-counter style, and casual vibes. It isn't usually too crowded, so it is easy to get a seat, and it is not too loud either. I am also always tempted to get pizza here when I walk down the street as you can just smell the fresh pizza every single time as you walk by. There are a ton of dog photos on the wall, and I postulate that the restaurant might have been named after a dog-loving owner -- but I'm not sure! Service: If you're dining in, you order at the counter and the food comes to you. You can get water at a cooler, and you put away your own plates/utensils when done. Overall no complaints. Food: I almost always get the funghi/mushroom pizza. It is SO satisfying, delicious, warm, crunchy, and flavorful every single time. It is a pizza blanca, so not ideal if you're looking for more of a tomato sauce, but I don't care because it's delicious. The mushrooms are always flavorful (although I would love more!) and I quite enjoy the mix of the mozzarella spread across the pizza and topped with specs of goat cheese. It all hits together for a nice crunchy umami-packed bite. Even when I get takeout, I can't help but eat a slice on the way home to ensure I've enjoyed at least one freshest slice possible. Is it possible for a restaurant to be "too nice?" If so, Iggie's is your spot. They are the nicest, most welcoming, most generous family-owned pizza shop I've ever seen. We've lived in the neighborhood for twelve years, and have seen Iggie's go down several paths, including a chicken and waffles iteration. Thank goodness it found it's way to this set of owners! And the super Diavolo loaded with olives and spicy sausage. We started with a fresh arugula salad and finished with dark chocolate muffin caked slathered with Carmel chocolate sauce and almond-pine nut cookies. The crust was white and crispy but bland. Been here many many times and finally deciding to write a review. Iggie's has been around for a while and is pretty much a Mt. Vernon staple. There was a close scare that it'd be moving, but glad to see it still in Mt. Vernon where it rightfully should be! For those of you unfamiliar with the place here's the breakdown: 1) very casual restaurant with long rows of bench seating and tables as well. Parking outside might be hard if you're coming driving in for dinner. You'll have to try and get lucky to find a good parallel parking spot. 2) BYOB. this is one of the biggest draws 3) pet friendly...right at the entrance, there is a wall of customer pet photos. great to pass the time while you wait in line 4) dinner is quite busy, esp on weekend nights (maybe 30 minute wait? but if you go for lunch, there's no wait. 5) PIZZAsss: thin crust, very very good. Crispy. Toppings are interesting and unique, i'll leave it up to you to decide from the menu. I pretty much like everything. The ingredients are really high quality and great combinations from savory to sweet to meaty to fruitful. The one draw back I can think of are the fillingness of the pizza for the price you pay. The thin crustness of the pizza can leave you hungry, but you're eseentially paying for quality over quantity. OVERALL: Come and enjoy! and make sure iggie's stays in mt vernon. read more

One of my favorite pizza places. The restaurant is a bit different compared to other restaurants, so just a heads up: there is no waiter/waitress serving you water, napkins, or cleaning up after you. Everything is self-served. I had Diavola and Margherita, and both were amazing. Diavola had a thick, salty, meaty flavor. Margherita had a clean tomato-y flavor. So it was a good balance. They now have a long menu of too much variety (subs, quesadillas, jollof rice) and buried deep in it are the Iggies signature pizzas and salads. Sadly, the crust is way different and no longer cracker thin. My pistachio pizza was missing THE PISTASHIOS. I ordered a Cesar salad but they sent the Rucola instead and it lacked salad dressing. One of the best artisan pizza places in Baltimore. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of good pizza here so this place is a gem. The lives are decent and normal, staff is mice, and service is quick. The inside of the restaurant is cute. Not a romantic date spot, but good for family and friends. It's fun to watch the staff create pizzas while you wait too. They're also great at filling large orders very quickly. The Alice pizza is my favorite: basil, tomato, and mozzarella. The ingredients are super fresh and the dough is the perfect combination of fluffy and crispy. The personal pizzas are a great size, and you usually have 1-2 slices leftover (unless you're starving when you dig in). My only complaint would be that sometimes the crust is a little burnt, but that's normal for thin crust artisan pizza. I came here for lunch with friends to celebrate finishing our last medical school exam - between the 4 of us we split 2 large pizzas which was the perfect amount for us. We got the Anatra Arrosta (duck!) and the Pulito (mozzarella, ragu) which were both very tasty and in the end, our bill came out to only $8 per person! The pizzas are on the pricier side but if you split with a couple friends the price is more than reasonable. They have pizza bianca as well as regular pizza with tomato sauce. The pizza was delicious but a tad oily for me, so I blotted it with some napkins but otherwise I enjoyed it! The small pizzas, which are a little cheaper are like personal pizzas so that's another option. Iggies has wine glasses that you can help yourself to and when you are finished your meal, you bring everything to the trash area so it's very much a self service place. I usually don't like the custom made pizza places of the world because i think it's small and not much for the price, compared to the papa johns & other traditional pizza makers. However.... The pizza wasn't that expensive. Ignoring that, the pizza itself was so good. If there wasn't a storm, i might've gone back for another.
