Food was delicious. Arrived on time and still warm. Pizza had great sauce and the perfect amount of it. Toppings were fresh and flavorful.

One of the oddest pizzas I've had. It tasted like it was maybe Parmesan cheese, not mozzarella, and the pizza had a spice to it--maybe from excessive black pepper? Also, had piles and piles of corn meal, or whatever powder they use, on the bottom. Overall, still edible, but very odd tasting. When I lived in Frankford Gardens I visited Gil's Pizza and 50 years later I still enjoy popping in for quick carry out pizza. Remember to call in to order first! The staff is terrific and it's amazing to be able to enjoy the same great tasting Neapolitan style pizza. Same recipe that I enjoyed those 50+ years ago! I was visiting my cousin and I was researching nearby spots to eat. He and his wife had never had this pizza joint before, and apparently it's been around forever. They only serve one kind of pizza -- 12 inches, and you can add whatever toppings you want. We decided to get one pizza with pineapple and pepperoni. I called in my order and the man said it'd be 20 minutes. We showed up right at that time to the simple little shop and it was indeed ready! We were told the toppings go under the cheese, which is quite unusual! I don't know any other places that do that. The pineapples were very visible, but at first I didn't think there was any pepperoni. But there was plenty! I put it in my insulated bag and drove 5 minutes back to my cousin's. The pizza was pretty good! Not bad BMore, not bad at all!! My favorite aspect was definitely the sauce -- cheese and crust were good too. Someone told me that Gil's Pizza was among their favorite pizza spots in the city. After trying them, that designation is definitely well deserved. The pizza was ready for pickup within 15 minutes of me placing the call and the fellas in the store were both pleasant. The pizza though! They serve standard 12" pies for $12 (as of 6/25). Though it's not NY style (my favorite style of pizza), the aroma is amazing and the flavor is incredible. It must be their cheese blend. We had the cheese pizza with double dough style crust from Gil's and while this little neighborhood carryout is certainly no frills, the pizza was very tasty and had a robust sauce and somewhat unique cheese blend we enjoyed. The inside is older but was clean with very pleasant staff that took and made our order. Again, this is a no frills pizza spot so they aren't pushing out gourmet toppings or anything too fancy but if you're looking for a solid classic style carryout pizza and are in the neighborhood, Gil's should hit the mark. read more

SUCH A HUGE FAN OF GIL'S PIZZAS! This local pie shop has been around since 1958, and I believe it! Their menu is very simple and straightforward - they have Tomato & Cheese Pizza, the House Special, and create-your-own with toppings that include pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, onions, black olives, sweet peppers, meat sauce, banana hots, mushrooms, Canadian bacon, anchovies, and pineapple, with even the option to get 'double dough' or adding extra cheese. We ordered their Tomato & Cheese Pizza - this is their signature 12-inch 'square-ish' pie; this was sooo cheesy and yummy! The crust was housemade, and you can really tell - not too thick or too thin - a perfect complement and ratio to the fresh toppings! Note that each and every pie is made-to-order, so we received ours, literally, right out of the oven so it was piping hot! MMM! There was only one employee in there, and he was friendly and kind - we waited for about 15-20 minutes for ours, so not too bad! Best thing this pizza has going for it, is it's robust sauce with great flavor. Everything else is very disappointing. I don't know how this gets a 4.5 or higher rating. Crust is extremely thin, barely there you can't bend it, or hold it. you pretty much have to eat it with a fork, and the crust is hollow so it breaks apart like a cracker. read more

I really enjoy the pepperoni cheese pizza. This is "Chuck E Cheese" style pizza, but in a good way. The crust is oddly white and powdery. And the crust is thin and non-dominating. I love NY slices so I was happy to find this staple after reading all the positive reviews. While it's been around for years, which tends to be common in Baltimore, and the building doesn't look updated, I was able to order online. Shoutout to modern conveniences. I wanted just cheese but once I saw I had the ability to modify half, I added banana peppers, mushrooms, bell peppers and onions to the other half. That half was okay but the cheese alone was better. When I arrived, I found a quick parking spot directly in front and it was ready. Looked greasy but that's kinda what I expected with all the cheese. You also have the option to get it cooked well done. Their well done, isn't my well done so after I popped it in my broiler for a couple minutes and let the cheese brown, it was perfect. Today after all the online reviews and positive recommendations (including best pizza Baltimore magazine 2023) for Gil's we decided to try it. The man behind the counter cranking out pies was super accommodating and very nice. Very old school and nostalgic feel to this business. The pizza was amazing. They've been making them since the 50's which tells you something about the quality. Toppings and ingredients were fresh and top notch. My family including teenagers all agreed this is great pizza. Did you know that "Za" is a recognized word in scrabble? Yup! And if you land it on a triple word space, ba-da-bing! Major bonus points to your score! How's that for an opener? Been playing so much Scrabble these days that I've had Zas on the mind....and no other pizza in my little zipcode area does a better job at them than Gil's. I love this place because they only make pizza. No subs, no calzones, no chicken wings, no gyros...thank God no gyros! The crust is hand tossed, the ingredients always fresh, the sauce is not too salty or too sweet, and they thankfully don't flavor the crust like the other horrible pizza chains. A local favorite. But this place is take out only. Freshly made, and built for the to go box. A definite go to. The only complaint isn't about the pizza, it's about the box. It is too thin.
