i've been to this place about 4 times, every other time having a great experience until today. we waited 40 minutes for a table (after being told 25) to find out they had 6 open tables and were not seating us. after finally getting the table we waited an additional 5 minutes to not see the first waiter, and during that time a couple people walked in and got seated at the same time as us (with no wait!), received drinks and ordered food. i think this place takes way too many takeout orders therefore the staff cannot have a full house and so many takeout orders. this whole experience was awful. 1 out of 4 isn't bad, but definitely won't be returning during a busy time again. read more

Everything is fresh and flavorful, we frequently rely on the more than capable staff to recommend dishes we wouldn't normally try. Don't miss the "whole" fish dishes and hot pot selections. I've stopped in a handful of times around dinner time for sushi and was not disappointed. Their rolls seem fairly priced for the taste and quality so I figured I'd try more on the menu. I came in wanting to try their drunken noodles and was given a dish that looked more like pad thai and tasted like teriyaki noodles. The drunken noodles that came out had a few ingredients in the dish that were not on the menu and was just not my favorite. I asked for a new dish due to not liking the drunken noodles and when my server relayed me not liking the dish to his manager she came over to my table and started to argued with me. The manager was basically saying that I was in the wrong and Ichiban was not at fault for serving me a dish I did not like. She stood at my table and continued for at least five minutes laughing at me and telling me comping my meal was not going to happen. With the way this situation was handled I have chosen not to support this business/ not eat here again. I do not recommend. read more

Ichiban's lunch special is out of this world. An amazing value at $16.95, their all you can eat buffet includes a number of dishes, including sushi! My favorite BY FAR had to be the Typhoon Sheltered Shrimp! It is shrimp fried in tempura batter with a spicy chili sauce and scallions. I also enjoyed Singapore rice noodles, beef lo mein, and the spring roll. The pork fried wontons were good, sweet and sour chicken okay. The honey shrimp did not do it for me- the sauce seemed to be made of a honey and mayo combo, some might say yes or no based on that. Maybe it would be good with some texture like crushed walnuts on top. Also I would pass on the crab ravioli which was basically off brand crab rangoon using imitation crab. read more

I came here for a work lunch and I enjoyed my meal and the timely service. The lunch specials are really hearty and are prIced very affordably. It's not many places where you can get quality sushi and General tso's chicken on the same menu! Well, my lunch special was delicious. The egg drop soup was rich and tasty for a cold afternoon. They let me use their restroom although I only had a pick up order. Their toilet is clean and well-maintained. The spam musubi was delicious and perfectly fried, which I could never replicate when frying spam. Though it took a while to get service who could blame them for being understaffed but busy, especially during this COVID climate. We had an array of appetizers which were delish!: veggie dumplings, gyozas, coconut shrimp and shrimp and pork dumplings, miso and wonton soup. Service SUCKS!!!! Worst Ever! The waiter spoiled a bowl of soup on my friend! We didn't say anything and even smile to her telling her that's all right. But due to the bad service my friend only give them 13% tip, and me and another friend give them 15%. They stop us from leaving the store, shouting at us saying the tip is too little and do not let us go. We tell them that's because they spoiled hot soup on our friend. They say "We already apologized so you need to give us high tip!". So, mistakes are not mistakes as long as apologize is given? Btw, they charge tips by after tax price, which is illegal. FOOD IS AMAZING!!!! My husband and I are on an staycation from Hampton && the food, drinks and service was absolutely fantastic! Wen is a delight, she was our server she made some fantastic food and drink suggestions! The atmosphere was quite quiet and calm, soft music is playing in the background while everyone speaks in soft voices. I apologize for not showing pictures of our food, but we had 2 appetizers honey wasabi shrimp and shrimp and pork dumplings (hand rolled). My friends and I are on our annual vacation in Williamsburg, VA. We made plans to eat here last minute. What a great experience we had! We were treated wonderfully. The staff was courteous and attentive. We were greeted by a very nice host! Our sever was good and she knew a lot about the menu. We ordered sushi, the California Roll, Honey Roll, and Phoenix Roll, as our appetizer. My favorite was the Honey Roll. The honey sauce was amazing; it was sweet and savory. Both the Phoenix and Honey Roll were deep fried! Our main entree was the best Japanese/Chinese food ever! I order the Teriyaki Chicken with friend rice. My friends ordered the Chicken & Broccoli with white rice and Sesame Chicken with fried rice! We had more than enough. I highly recommend Ichiban! I tried the lunch special of Beef with broccoli. I choose the side salad as part of my meal. The food is amazing! Hot and fresh large portions beef with broccoli. I never had this dish with carrots. All really good. Not a single issue or problem with the food. You can tell the wonton soup is made from scratch and all the sauces she told me as well. The firecracker beef was excellent and crispy. The sweet n sour chicken was simple and classic. Cashew chicken was so flavorful. We also tried the veggie platter stir fry. All a must try. This deserves better reviews. We LOVE Ichiban. We always order take out here, and sadly have never eaten at the location. My take-out review is... the staff are super friendly and if they are running late then they always make it up to you with "extras". One time they were late and included a Japanese drink and dumplings. We always order their sushi, but also have ordered their rice and Chinese food. We love the Phoenix Roll, Honey Roll, Godzilla Roll and the Spicy Crab Roll. Their spring rolls are delicious too. We split the sushi as a couple and it's more than enough for the 2 of us. Every time we order takeout, we order at 5 PM and it usually arrives around 6:30 PM, even during weekdays. Make sure to give yourself time if you order delivery because it does take a while! A friend of mine had a coworker who raved about this restaurant, so we decided to try it out. Although the name of this restaurant is Japanese, the restaurant serves a lot of Chinese food too. I guess it is somewhat of a fusion restaurant. We ordered mostly Chinese dishes from the dinner menu, consisting of a noodle dish as well as Peking Duck. I LOVE Peking Duck and hadn't had it in a while. In addition to being the first time having Peking Duck in Virginia, this restaurant was also the first restaurant in my life to carve the whole roasted duck right at our table. We added the option of making soup out of the bones after carving as well. The food (especially the duck) was extremely delicious, and service was also very prompt and friendly. It was also nice to be able to speak Mandarin to some of the employees, since I don't speak Chinese as much anymore here in Virginia. The restaurant itself is gorgeous too, with very ornate furnishings and even a few private dining rooms for large groups. read more

One thing makes me the happiest girl in the world - all you can eat sushi. From 11:30 to 2 pm, there's about 30 different styles of maki sushi to order, appetizers, main courses, and single nigiri as well. Moreover, there is no limit to how much you can order at once. However, the biggest drawback is that this buffet is very popular, so the waiting time is pretty long. Therefore, we just kept ordering a couple things at once - usually 2 maki rolls and 1 appetizer. I highly recommend telling your server in advance to pop by before 2 pm for the last order because, after 2, they will not take more orders to the kitchen. Onto the actual sushi, if you love shrimp, then I would definitely get the Honey roll. One drawback to the menu is that it just lists the name. Obviously, you know the most popular ones like California rolls, but you might want to ask your server about the other exotic ones. The meat for the nigiri is HUGE. Lastly, I don't know exactly what happens if you have some sushi left over. We had a competition to eat the most pieces of sushi (I was in dead last with 12 pieces and the winner had 32), so we did not have any leftovers. I would ask the server about their pricing for leftovers if there is an additional cost to the 13.50. All in all, I would definitely come again. read more

I have no clue how this restaurant has such high ratings. While the soup was fine, the drunken noodles were neither drunken noodles (wide fat noodles) nor drunken sauce- it has an overly salty, gross brown sauce on it- And for some reason had huge tomato wedges that didn't taste fresh or good. I asked politely to have another dish because I didn't like this one- it was not as described in their menu (it had pad thai noodles that the manager tried to convince me were wide noodles. REALLY?) or the basic dish that anyone should expect when ordering it. The manager was rude right out of the gate and was entirely insulting to me the entire exchange. I knew I should have turned around when I walked in at 7:30 and there one only 1 other table there. There was a line out of the door at another restaurant nearby but no one there.... I don't know where they're getting they're 4 & 5 star reviews, because there is no way between the awful food and the terrible service that I would ever consider going back, but if their dinner "rush" is any indication, I won't have to avoid them for long. My advice is buy the instant food up the road at Trader Joes for a superior meal! read more

It was a little irritating not being greeted at the door when walking in. I understand the hostess was busy however, one of the employees looked directly at me while she was rolling silverware and did not even acknowledge me. I know it's not your job, I'm your mind but it essential is in general. The service was great and the lady was very friendly and to the point. The food was average at best. My beef teriyaki was boring. The steak was way overcooked and chewy, the veggies were perfect and the fried rice was embarrassing. I can't believe they sent that rice out lol. But honestly I ate everything because I don't believe I'm wasting food unless it is awful but it was eatable. My daughters chicken Lo mien was delicious, I should have ordered that. I was looking at my review that I made in 2016 and it was horrible. Apparently I had forgotten about that visit and have given Ichiban another chance. We visit them probably monthly since moving back to the area 2 years ago. Always great service and portions are great.
