Nice local place primarily for to-go orders but also offers a few tables to dine in. Lunch specials today which include soup - Hot and Sour and wonton were our choices. Wontons are thick and well filled, hot and sour was filled with meat and tofu, both were much better than the norm for a lunch special addition. Asked for my entre (Mongolian chicken) to be spicy and after laughing the chef complied. Not overly spiced but now had a nice little tang to it. China Star is our go-to take away for Chinese food in Williamsburg. This is not a sit-down restaurant. It's a place to order from a varied menu and take away. Their soups are good and not salty. I especially like the wonton soup and my husband enjoys the hot and sour. We mostly order their lunch special. We order the garlic chicken or chicken with mixed vegetables. These come with a soup, fried rice, chicken and veggies. These serving size is very large and we often save it for dinner. Parking is easy right in front. We order here about once a month or more. The food is excellent, portions are great and the service is excellent.

We didn't care about the ambiance, we were about the food which was not good. What did they do to the chicken? The t xture was soft, almost gooey. One thing that you can be assured of is that you can find a Chinese restaurant that is open on Thanksgiving night in Williamsburg. It's a small restaurant but the ingredients were fresh, I got the king pao chicken and beef and pepper. The beef was tender and rightly seasoned. The fried rice was good and not oily. We were hungry so maybe there's some element of that that may have clouded our judgment. We have been going to this place for takeout for awhile. Hit or miss depending on staff. Soups (Hot and Sour) and appetizers (Boneless Ribs) are usually really good, but my favorite dish (Singapore Mei Fun) is my go to. I was hoping for a great Chinese food experience. This was good, but missed in a couple of places. We had wonton soup and General Tsos Chicken. The wonton soup had very large and well stuffed wontons. We're used to small strips of roast pork in the broth, but none were there. So onto the General Tsos Chicken. I wanted a place that I could get a decent fast food style chinese meal and China Star delivered. I ended up ordering 4 Lunch specials - because they're so cheap, why not try a bunch? I had the following with Hot & Sour Soup & Fried Rice: Shrimp with Cashew Nuts: there were more celery/carrots than shrimp and anything else. The veggies were undercooked, but the sauce was good. I wouldn't order this again. General Tso's Chicken: this was delicious. It still had a bit of a crunch when I got it home, which is expected since anything with that much sauce is bound to get soft pretty quickly. Overall, great flavor and good bang for your buck with the lunch special. I'll definitely order this again. Hunan Beef: this was kind of in the middle. There were more veggies than meat again, but the meat that was here was flavorful and tender. I just with there was more of it! Probably won't order again. Bourbon Chicken: this was also one of my favorites and I'll definitely order it again. It came with a good amount of Chicken and was packed full of flavor. It is not breaded so no worries about it getting soggy. It had a nice caramelization. I love that this place is close to home and better than most of the other places that i've tried in the area for Chinese food. Very standard Chinese take out place. Prices are cheap, food is prepped fast, and the product is pretty solid. This is near the brewery that I work at on the weekends, so I've ordered takeout from here on the way home a couple of times. On both occasions I've been satisfied. I most recently had vegetable lo mein and added fried tofu. They gave me the option to add $1, $2 or $3 worth of tofu, which was kind of funny, but nice to have options. I noticed yesterday that they have this menu of random combinations, such as chicken nuggets with pork fried rice. Made me chuckle. read more

Gave this place a second chance the other night and couldn't even eat the $30 worth of food we bought. My husband and I both ordered selections from their "Cantonese" menu. Not worth it. His food had no flavor and my General Tso's tasted like it came from a freezer meal. They also mixed in dish with my General Tso's that made zero sense and completely turned my stomach. 5 stars is an understatement! We recently moved to this area and decided to try out this place for our first Chinese takeout. I do not say this lightly, this is hands down the BEST Chinese food I have ever consumed and trust me, I've tried a lot. We ordered the honey chicken, crab rangoons and roasted pork fried rice. Portions were huge while the prices were real reasonable. You must order the honey chicken! They even threw in some steamed broccoli which was a nice touch and I could tell that even that was fresh!
