I am new to the area in Gloucester, VA and have never eaten from this restaurant before. After receiving the order, I will never order from them again. I bought and paid for an order of Steaks on a Stick (4 "steaks") and Spring Rolls (2 rolls). The "Steaks" were inedible and I couldn't even chew the meat (?) which resembled rubber...I only needed one bite and threw the rest out. As for the Spring Rolls, I didn't even get them. Also, the bag the food was in was "wet" all the way through so the bag broke. WTF? After more than 16 years of loyal patronage, it's genuinely disappointing to write this review. This restaurant was once our go-to spot for Chinese takeout whether for family meals, combination platters, or quick lunch specials. Unfortunately, over the past year, the quality has declined significantly. We decided to give it another try today for the sake of convenience, as we were already nearby, but this will be our last visit. The experience fell far below expectations. My lunch special, General Tso's chicken, appeared and tasted as though it had been pre-prepared and left sitting for some time. The chicken was extremely hard and nearly inedible, lacking the freshness and texture we once enjoyed. The fried rice was also underwhelming dry, plain and lacking the vegetables typically included at other establishments. The overall dish felt as though it had been reheated rather than freshly made. Even the broccoli, which should have added some balance, was cold and undercooked. I would have included a photo for reference, however after just a few bites, I ended up discarding the meal entirely. Given that we live just down the street, travel time was not a factor. This was simply a matter of food quality. It's unfortunate to see such a long-standing favorite decline to this extent. This used to be MY 'No1' place for great chinese food but the last few times I've visited I've been very disappointed in their Wonton Soup; my very Berry favorite. Apparently they're putting the dumplings into the hot soup very early, and leave them because by the time I open the container they are total mush. Not to my liking! It's happened several times so it's not just a one time oversight. So I travel a little further for GREAT soup along with everything else. So guys, check your dumplings before you dish them out! read more

Food is always hot and flavorful. We have been going here at least once a week for over 10 years. Great for after Church on Sunday, or family dinner on Christmas Eve. read more

We love No 1 Chinese! We've ordered the family pack for years and it's now a family tradition when our kids come back for a visit. Our favorite are the Chicken Teriyaki on a stick. The prices seem a little high, but that's everywhere now. read more

It was my first time coming here and I didn't even know it was next to good lion! I got a large vegetable lo mein and it was delicious! The wait time wasn't bad too and in one sitting i probably could only eat 1/4 of the large portion, maybe even less. It lasts awhile at least for 2 meals for those who eat more! it was also under $9! Typical Chinese takeout restaurant. We ordered the pick 4 family meal: Large portions, food was hot and very good!

We enjoy this restaurant, the Lo Mein, orange chicken and sweet and sour. Do recommend for the Gloucester area...plus they deliver.

Portions were good size, food was quickly prepared but was not satisfactory to my or my girlfriends expectations. Fried dumplings were not fried long enough and the taste was not pleasing. Normal run of the mill quick Chinese. read more

Terrible! Wonton soup - wontons are gooey-Ewww! Singapore chow mei fun so salty @ 1st I put it in a colander and rinsed it off hoping that might help. Nope had to throw it out! Shrimp were mealy too..Yuck. Inside was kinda dirty too. 1st & last time for us. read more

I've been going here for a while and the foods always been OK. Yesterday I had roast pork chow fun which was supposed to be wide noodles. These wide noodles were compressed into a solid piece and it was disgusting to look at and tasted awful. Very disappointed read more
