4 stars (rounded up) - given that it's fairly inexpensive and primarily to-go. We stopped in for lunch while in the area since there were so many high ratings. 4 or five small tables primarily occupied by staff (as witnesses by order pads, calculators, etc. back area stuffed with boxes and other paraphernalia. Cook visible through window working away with face mask at half-staff (why bother?). Food is prepared to order for the most part, and is served quickly. Beef is thin and slightly chewy, drenched in sauce over some zucchini strips. Fried rice was meh...not too much flavor, just rice (no egg or veggies). Sushi rice okay - needed a bit rice vinegar added. Salad dressing quite tasty, and avocado generous. For quick takeout it's okay. Not fine dining for sure, but for what it is, it's decent. Probably wouldn't recommend coming here for dining, but to grab a quick bite to bring home, maybe.

We went to Tokyo Express for a quick lunch. For a family of five, easily fed all of us with leftovers. Really tasty!!!

What a great place to pick up some lunch and go. Their lunch prices are extremely affordable (and their hibachi is tasty which helps too). No dine in option, pick up only. We ordered shrimp and steak hibachi, salmon and avocado roll, eel roll and tuna and avocado roll. This all came up to about $25 and change which is half the price I would have paid elsewhere, so I appreciate this place keeping my pockets lined with some cash. The salmon didn't taste the best on this occasion, but the rest of the rolls were just fine. The hibachi came with three pieces of shrimp, but was more generous with the steak serving. Overall, 3.5 stars rounded up solely because of the price.

Got carryout. Food was ready quickly, pretty good, and reasonably priced, but no where near as good as Benihana or the like

Food is alright - the chicken in the yakisoba noodles and hibachi is pretty much the same, they just don't add any vegetables in yakisoba. To be honest, yakisoba was a little soggy, hibachi was better with some bedding of veggies. Ordered 3 meals: beef hibachi, chicken hibachi and chicken yakisoba. Came with 3 small cups of yum-yum sauce. Total cost was almost 52$ without tips. Giving it 4 stars because the quality of food was not really worth a 50$, more like 35$ (regular Asian-American cuisine, nothing special for 'Tokyo' name).

We were looking for affordable Japanese food that we could enjoy but this place is more of a take out place as multiple orders were filled as we sat in the third booth in, passing the first booth taken by the hostess' things, the second booth had a dirty appearance with a used water bottle, so the third booth it was. I ordered the veggie roll and a salad hoping to cleanse my body of the sins from yesterday's meals while hubby ordered the lunch special beef hibachi. My salad was lettuce with avocado and two containers of tasty dressing. The veggie roll was guess what! Avocado in rice. Good thing I love avocado but if you don't then you're not going to be happy. No other veggies in the salad. Hubby said his rice tasted like it was seasoned with soy sauce, just meh. The beef was sliced so thin yet overall not satisfying. It's okay for a quick take away and for folks unfamiliar with hibachi. We witnessed a conversation with a customer who didn't know what hibachi was and the person explaining it struggled to explain it while filling orders.

Dining area. Not very clean. A bit run down.

A hole in the wall. A bit run down and needs cleaning. The place was empty. They overcharged us by $5 even after I added a tip on the receipt. They don't give an itemized receipt so they just add whatever they want. Dishonest so make sure you add up the charges yourself! Food was just ok but the rice was dry and tasteless. The Godzilla Roll was burning hot since they deep fry it so the shredded tuna is cooked (not the typical Japanese style Godzilla Roll sushi) $9. The CA rolls are super tiny $5. The hibachi shrimp had zucchini and broccoli underneath $10.50. The hibachi beef had a very thin layer of thinly sliced beef on top of vegetables $10.50. We won't be going back. Disappointing.

Don't pass up this place, even though the location in a strip mall makes it easy to drive by without noticing. A local recommended this place and even though I was skeptical when we drove up, it did not disappoint! I would love to have photos of the food, but we had none because we started eating as soon as it came! It was the best hibachi food we've eaten, ever. Their specialty yum yum sauce is delicious. The vegetables are tender and perfectly seasoned. Everything is fresh, including expertly executed made to order sushi. Considering the quality of food, pricing is dirt cheap - $3 California rolls! It's not a fine dining location, but we already can't wait to return here while on vacation.

The atmosphere: It's a small restaurant best suited for small groups, though there are a few tables that can accommodate larger parties. You order at the cashier and they bring the food to your table. There's also a self-serve drink station, and they provide free water cups that you can refill. The food: We started with the takoyaki and chicken karaage. The takoyaki was good, but fairly standard. The chicken karaage portion was generous, and the pieces were large. The coating was lighter than what I'm used to, which kept the chicken juicy, but it did make it a bit oily. I also wished there was more seasoning in the chicken or batter since I ended up relying on the spicy mayo sauce quite a bit. For my entree, I ordered the pork katsu with rice and tonkotsu sauce. It was fine, but nothing particularly memorable. I also would've preferred a slaw instead of just a few pieces of lettuce. Portions overall were big, and the dishes are definitely shareable. The service: Service was touch-and-go, very much a fast-casual setup.

Before we moved to Williamsburg, we visited the area for vacations, and Thai Tara is alway the first place we go for dinner and the final meal before leaving. Whether you crave the freshest Sushi/Sashimi or you prefer authentic Thai street food, you will find it here. We have traveled to Bangkok many times, and from first hand experience can say without exaggerating that the Chicken Sate or Fresh Rolls are as authentic as you might find at the street markets in BKK. The Tom Kha and Tom Yum soups are a treat. The extensive selection of warm Thai dishes like Pad Thai and Penang Curry are outstanding. We often include a hand roll or a selection of Sashimi from the Sushi bar in our orders. Never has the sushi bar prepared anything less than perfect. And if you want a real treat, finish your meal with a Mango Sticky Rice. Although small in size, it's surely is a dessert of the gods. An extensive bar is also on hand at Thai Tara for your favorite hand mixed cocktail, umbrella drink or beer, including Thailand's own Singha, a refreshing lager. Plan to arrive early because this cozy (but not small) place gets very busy, especially on weekends. Parking can be tight. But even in the busiest evenings, service is always prompt, attentive, and with a Thai smile.
